Emmy-winning actor Brian Cox, widely known for his role as Logan Roy in the HBO series `Succession`, recently revealed the reason he was never seen in major franchises such as `Game of Thrones` and `Pirates of the Caribbean`.

The actor revealed the reason in his new memoir `Putting the Rabbit in the Hat`, reported Variety. Cox turned down the role of King Robert Baratheon in the first season of `GOT`. Fellow UK actor Mark Addy was cast in the role."I`m often asked if I was offered a role in `Game of Thrones` -- reason being that every other bugger was -- and the answer is, yes, I was supposed to be a king called Robert Baratheon, who apparently died when he was gored by a boar in the first season," Cox wrote in the memoir."I know very little about `Game of Thrones` so I can`t tell you whether or not he was an important character, and I`m not going to Google it just in case he was, because I turned it down," he added.

Revealing the reason behind rejecting the role, he wrote, "Why? Well, `Game of Thrones` went on to be a huge success and everybody involved earned an absolute fortune, of course. But when it was originally offered the money was not all that great, shall we say."He added, "Plus I was going to be killed off fairly early on, so I wouldn`t have had any of the benefits of the long-term effects of a successful series where your wages go up with each passing season. So I passed on it, and Mark Addy was gored by the boar instead."Cox also shared, "I turned my nose up at the part of the Governor in the `Pirates of the Caribbean franchise,` a role that was eventually played by Jonathan Pryce."A role in Disney`s `Pirates` movies would`ve given Cox his second franchise after starring as William Stryker in `X2: X-Men United`.

Cox said, "The guy who directed `Pirates` was Gore Verbinski, with whom I made `The Ring,` and he`s a lovely chap but I think I blotted my copybook by turning down the Governor. It would have been a money-spinner, but of all the parts in that film, it was the most thankless, plus I would have ended up doing it for film after film and missed out on all the other nice things I`ve done."

However, there was one more reason why Cox decided to pass on the franchise -- namely, his would-be costar, Johnny Depp."Another thing with `Pirates of the Caribbean` is that it`s very much the `Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow` show, and Depp, personable though I`m sure he is, is so overblown, so overrated," Cox said.

"I mean, `Edward Scissorhands.` Let`s face it, if you come on with hands like that and pale, scarred-face make-up, you don`t have to do anything. And he didn`t. And subsequently, he`s done even less. But people love him. Or they did love him. They don`t love him so much these days, of course," he added. Cox's memoir 'Putting the Rabbit in the Hat' will debut on January 18.

Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox are engaged!

On Wednesday, the singer, 31, popped the question to Fox after over a year of dating.

The much in love couple shared the happy news on their Instagram handles, showing off their gorgeous engagement ring. Megan also dropped a video of the sweet moment, which shows the rapper, whose real name is Colson Baker, getting down on one knee to propose to her.

The beautiful ring, which was designed by jeweller Stephen Webster, features Megan's birthstone emerald and his birthstone, a diamond and together both the stones forms a small heart.

Explaining the special moment, Megan wrote, "In July of 2020 we sat under this banyan tree. We asked for magic." She further added, "Somehow a year and a half later, having walked through hell together, and having laughed more than I ever imagined possible, he asked me to marry him. And just as in every lifetime before this one, and as in every lifetime that will follow it, I said yes.…and then we drank each other’s blood." Further adding the date, ''1.11.22.''

Sharing a close-up video of the stunning ring, MGK revealed more details of her ring, “I know tradition is one ring, but I designed it with Stephen Webster to be two: the emerald (her birth stone) and the diamond (my birth stone) set on two magnetic bands of thorns that draw together as two halves of the same soul forming the obscure heart that is our love. 1-11-2022,” he explained.
Emma Watson will 'return' for another Harry Potter reunion in 20 years Explaining the special moment, Megan wrote, "In July of 2020 we sat under this banyan tree. We asked for magic." She further added, "Somehow a year and a half later, having walked through hell together, and having laughed more than I ever imagined possible, he asked me to marry him. And just as in every lifetime before this one, and as in every lifetime that will follow it, I said yes.…and then we drank each other’s blood." Further adding the date, ''1.11.22.'' Sharing a close-up video of the stunning ring, MGK revealed more details of her ring, “I know tradition is one ring, but I designed it with Stephen Webster to be two: the emerald (her birth stone) and the diamond (my birth stone) set on two magnetic bands of thorns that draw together as two halves of the same soul forming the obscure heart that is our love. 1-11-2022,” he explained.
Landmines that are already laid in huge numbers are a problem in many countries across the world. These ladmines, often laid during a period of conflict, stay buried even when the conflict is over and continue to kill unsuspecting civilians who happen to step on them. MJ Rodriguez makes history as first trans actress to win a Golden Globe, shares heartfelt message

The universe has so many things going on that it is impossible to keep track of them all. Though we have taken leaps in developing new technology and are on the cusp of using the most powerful telescope ever built (James Webb), it is not possible to simultaneously keep track of literally trillions and trillions of celestial objects.

When we are going about running our daily errands, we are oblivious that thousands of things that take place in the cosmos.

One of them, collisions of galaxies! This sounds like a universe-ending phenomenon but is absolutely common and not as violent as movies have us believe. Bigger galaxies incorporate smaller galaxies as they move around in the universe. Just a matter of which one has more mass and few other factors. Milky Way galaxy is no exception to this.

Currently, our galaxy is colliding with the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy. This galaxy has less than 1 per cent of the stellar mass of the regular spiral galaxy like Milky Way galaxy. The matter in the dwarf galaxy is slowly being incorporated in a monster that our galaxy appears before it.

Feeling victorious? Step down the throne because Milky Way galaxy is going to collide with a bigger galaxy. Andromeda galaxy is approaching Milky Way at huge speed every second. The approach is going to result in a collision and will change physical appearance of both the galaxies. Milky Way galaxy would no longer have its characteristic spiral shape.

It's perhaps too bad none of us would be alive to witness the mega-clash as it would take place a few billion years in future.

Marilyn Bergman, the Oscar, Emmy and Grammy-winning songwriter whose lyrics graced hits such as `The Way We Were,` `The Windmills of Your Mind`, `In the Heat of the Night` and the songs from `Yentl`, has died at age 93.

According to Variety, Bergman was the first woman president and chairman of the board of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), a post she held from 1994 to 2009.

She and her husband and lifelong writing partner Alan Bergman wrote the words to some of the most popular film and TV songs of the 1960s, `70s and `80s, and continued to write together well into the 2000s.

They were Oscar-nominated 16 times, and won three (for `Way We Were,` `Windmills` and the entire song score for `Yentl`). The Bergmans were frequent collaborators with composers Michel Legrand (their co-writer on `Windmills,` `Yentl` and such other songs as `What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?` and `How Do You Keep the Music Playing?`) and Marvin Hamlisch (`The Way We Were`).

ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams paid tribute to Bergman, writing in a statement, "It is with deep sadness that I personally, and all of ASCAP, mourn the passing of Marilyn Bergman -- one of the greatest lyricists who ever lived and truly ASCAP royalty. She was a brilliant songwriter who together with her husband, Alan Bergman, gave us some of the most beautiful and enduring lyrics of all time."

He added, "She was a tireless and fierce advocate for music creators not only during her term as President and Chairman of ASCAP but throughout her life. Our community will miss her intelligence, her wit and her wisdom. Alan -- we mourn with you."She was born Marilyn Keith in Brooklyn, majored in music at New York`s High School of Music and Art, then studied at NYU. While still in high school, she often played piano for lyricist Bob Russell. He encouraged her to consider songwriting as a profession.

When she moved to Los Angeles in the mid-1950s, she began writing lyrics for composer Lew Spence and soon met Spence`s other lyric-writing partner, Alan Bergman. Marilyn and Alan were married in February 1958.

Among their early hits were `Nice `n` Easy`, title track for the 1960 Frank Sinatra album, written with Spence; and `Yellow Bird`, a calypso number for a 1959 Norman Luboff album.`In the Heat of the Night,` sung by Ray Charles, was their big breakthrough film, working with composer Quincy Jones in 1967. Numerous films with Legrand followed, including `The Thomas Crown Affair,` `The Happy Ending,` `Pieces of Dreams,` `Summer of `42,` `Best Friends` and `Yentl,` many of which yielded hit songs.

With Hamlisch, they penned songs for `The Way We Were,` `Same Time, Next Year` and `Shirley Valentine,` all of which resulted in Oscar nominations. `The Way We Were` also won them 1974 Grammys for song of the year and best original score album. They also collaborated with composer Dave Grusin on `Tootsie,` `And Justice for All` and `For the Boys`; with John Williams on `Fitzwilly,` `Pete `n` Tillie` and `Sabrina`; with David Shire, `The Promise` and the theme for TV`s `Alice`; with Henry Mancini, `Sometimes a Great Notion` and `Gaily, Gaily`; with Johnny Mandel, `Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams`; with Elmer Bernstein, `From Noon Till Three`; and with James Newton Howard, `The Prince of Tides.`With Grusin, the Bergmans also wrote the TV themes for `Maude` and `Good Times.` They won Emmys for the score of the 1975 TV musical `Queen of the Stardust Ballroom` (with composer Billy Goldenberg), a song for `Sybil` (with Leonard Rosenman) and two songs for Barbra Streisand for 1990s TV specials (with Hamlisch).

Marilyn became the first woman to be elected to ASCAP`s board of directors in 1985, and she continued to serve on the board even after stepping down as its president.

Longtime friends with Streisand, she co-wrote and co-produced the singer`s HBO special `One Voice` in 1986 and co-wrote her concert tour (later aired on HBO as `Barbra Streisand: The Concert`) in 1994.As per Variety, she is survived by her husband Alan; a daughter, Julie; and a granddaughter.

Filmmaker Kevin Smith tried to make a Superman movie but unfortunately, he failed.

Smith recently attended an event where he spoke in detail about an unsuccessful attempt about the superhero movie with Ben Affleck playing the title role and Michael Rooker for the villainous role of Lex Luther

Earlier Warner Bros. was working on a new 'Superman' movie titled 'Superman Reborn,' but Smith thought the screenplay was “terrible.” That’s when Smith thought of his own movie based on 'The Death of Superman' comic series.

Smith’s script went into development with producer Jon Peters, but the two clashed over casting.
“I was writing it for Affleck,” Smith said, as per Variety. “Ben was heating up. Like he was there. I think he’d been hired for ‘Armageddon.’ Affleck, he’s a fucking giant, like he’s built like a superhero, built like a giant action figure, particularly with the height. And then he puts on the muscles there too. So in my head and heart, it was always Ben and Michael Rooker.”

Further, he told that producers wanted to cast Sean Penn as Superman.

“[Jon Peters] goes, ‘Look in [Penn’s] eyes in that movie, he’s [got] haunted eyes, the eyes of a killer,'” Smith said. “And I was like, ‘Dude, it’s Superman. You know, that’s not how most people think of Superman’…But he wanted to reinvent it. He wanted something gritty, graphic and grownup. He essentially wanted like what Zack Snyder eventually did [in ‘Man of Steel,’ ‘Batman v Superman’ and ‘Justice League,’ which coincidentally featured Affleck as Batman opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman].”
However, Tim Burton later made the movie 'Superman Lives' starring Nicolas Cage, and Affleck got his superhero role years later as Batman/Bruce Wayne in 'Batman v Superman'.
