There have been debates, discussions and controversies around the film's casting and implementation of the epic on the big screen. <em>Adipurush</em> is based on Valmiki's Ramayan, an epic that almost all Indians have grown up reading, watching, or listening to. This is why it becomes difficult to adapt such a well-known story (and exhaustive) into a three-hour film. Does it do justice? Read on to find out.</p>

<p>The story is a known one and Raut, who also serves as the writer of the film, starts off the film where Raghav (Prabhas), Janaki (Kriti Sanon), and Shesh (Sunny Singh) are living in exile. The story also has Lankesh (Saif Ali Khan) who abducts Janaki after his sister Surpanakha faces insult at the hands of Shesh and Raghav. How Raghav and Shesh along with loyal aide Bajrang (Devdatta Nage) and an army of monkeys to wage a war against Lankesh to bring back Janaki forms the rest of the story.</p>

<p>If you set aside the fact that the story is a well-known one and one that you have seen being adapted on screen before, Raut's <em>Adipurush</em> delivers a visual extravaganza. Especially the introduction scene of Lankesh and Raghav. Some may find the depiction of Raavan, aka Lankesh, outlandish, but Raut's interpretation of the antagonist seems interesting.</p>

<p>In Prabhas' intro scene, he fights skeletal-faced flying creatures which remind you of dementors from <em>Harry Potter. Adipurush</em> carries plenty of references from&nbsp;<em>Game of Thrones,</em> <em>Harry Potter,</em> and even <em>The Flash.</em></p>

<p><strong>The makers also play to the gallery. You know that some of the lines have been written to draw in cheers and claps in the film theatres. Some of the dialogues include-&nbsp;"<em>Jo hamari behno ko hath lagayenge, unki lanka laga denge”</em> (We will burn down homes if you trouble our sisters)," "<em>Kapda tere baap ka, tel tere baap ka, jalegi bhi tere baap ki,</em>"(will burn down father's kingdom and ego)&nbsp;"<em>Tu Jaanta hai mera baap kaun hai? (You know who's my father?)</em>"&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Since it has so much VFX,&nbsp;I did feel it limited the scope of performance for the actors. Prabhas looks his part&nbsp;and has limited dialogues, but looms large throughout the film. Similarly, Sanon looks stunning as Sita yet hardly has much scope to act considering her limited screen time and dialogues. Sunny Singh as Laxman has his moments and so does Devdatta Nage as Bajrang.</p>

<p>Vatsal Seth as Indrajit shows spark in his role but the film easily has Saif Ali Khan stealing the show with his evil act as Lankesh. His character is the most fleshed out and Khan doesn't disappoint with his interpretation.</p>

Adipurush review: Ramayana gets a VFX makeover

<p>Get ready for some action as Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan starrer <em>Vikram Vedha</em> is set for its OTT premiere. It will release on JioCinema on May 12.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film is a remake of a Tamil film by the same name.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sharing his excitement about the digital premiere of <em>Vikram Vedha</em>, Hrithik said in a statement, “It has been a long wait of 7 months, but I’m thrilled that Vikram Vedha will be streaming on JioCinema from the 12th of May 2023. This almost feels like a film release and I’m feeling the pre-release jitters all over again.”</p>

Adipurush to have its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival in New York

<p>To mark the Hindu festival of Ram Navami, the makers of the upcoming film <em>Adipurush </em>unveiled the first poster of the film on Thursday morning. The film is loosely based on the Hindu mythological tale of Ramayan. Releasing on 16th June 2023, the magnum opus boasts an ensemble cast of Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, and Sunny Singh, amongst others</p>

<p>With the gleam of lights and the echo of the chants, the makers of <em>Adipurush</em>&nbsp;release the glorious poster of the film. The poster depicts Prabhas as Raghav, Kriti Sanon as Janaki, Sunny Singh as Shesh, and Devdatta Nage bowing down to them as Bajrang. The film carries forward the virtue of the Hindu god Ram who was known for his courage and sacrifice.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Kareena will take on the iconic role of Black Widow in the alternate universe set in the future, Saif will feature as&nbsp;Star-Lord. However, both of their stories will have different arcs and seasons. And, the narratives will also not intersect.</p>

<p>The first season of the podcast will release in the form of Saif-led 'Marvel's Wastelanders: Star-Lord' on the audio streaming platform Audible on June 28.</p>

<p>While talking about his experience narrating his character and collaborating with the streaming platform, the actor recently said in a press conference, "Star-Lord, a beloved and roguishly charming hero's story is an against-all-odds story of survival and redemption."</p>

<p>"It's been a lot of fun to bring this iconic role and story alive through my voice - Star-Lord's journey in Marvel's Wastelanders will be imagined differently by every person who hears it. It's a great creative collaboration with the entire team," Saif added.</p>

This film is based on a 2017 Tamil film made by the same duo, which is based on the Indian folk tale Baital Pachisi. It was co-produced by YNOT Studios, Jio Studios, Theme Studios, T-Series Films, Friday Filmworks, and Reliance Entertainment. This film was made on a budget of Rs 100 crores and bagged approximately Rs 135 crores worldwide. It did fairly well at the box office. This film has a 7.1 IMDb rating and a 79% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. <p>It's not easy to be a part of a remake of a hit film. Comparisons are natural and it is difficult to surpass the originals by all quarters. Director duo Pushkar-Gayatri make their Bollywood debut with a remake of their Tamil hit film 'Vikram Vedha'. The trailer of the film had the internet buzzing as it presented Hrithik Roshan in a scruffy avatar full of swagger. The film too uses Roshan's larger-than-life persona to the fullest to tell a story where the audience has to decide - what is good and what is bad.</p>

<p>The story is loosely based on the popular folktale of <em>Betal Pachisi</em>, which was about a king called Vikramaditya and a ghoul called Betal. In Pushkar Gayatri's film, who also have written the story, Vikram (Saif Ali Khan) is an encounter specialist in Lucknow Police Special Task Force who along with his team is given the task to nab dreaded gangster Vedha Betal (Hrithik Roshan) who's been underground for a while. While the cops are still figuring out how to nab Vedha based on a recent tip-off, the gangster himself walks into the police station to surrender himself. During his subsequent interrogation, Vedha narrates a story to Vikram which can completely change his concept of good and evil.</p>

<p>Based on the premise of the original 2017 Tamil film, the Hindi adaptation has similar lines and scenes but it also cashes in on Roshan's superstardom and inherent swagger. Roshan's Vedha is supposed to be a scruffy unkempt man who only understands the language of guns. but he is also a gangster in a Bollywood film, whose grey beard and unruly curls have been carefully and tastefully created to give the character&nbsp;a super stylish look.</p>

<p>Giving him company is a very muscular Saif Ali Khan who because of his strikingly different character, the no-nonsense cop Vikram, looks clean and lean in his collared T-shirts and jeans.</p>

<p>Once you get over the lead pairs' carefully curated looks, the two actors manage to shine with their performances. Hrithik's role is far more fleshed out than Saif and the actor does not disappoint. He may be all too aware of his swag on screen but Roshan also sinks his teeth into making Vedha a very contrived personality who may be on the wrong side of the law but yet is a do-gooder.</p>

He does get the quirky lines, and the sly humour that exists in the narrative throughout but writers.... seem to concentrate more on fleshing out Vedha's role than Vikram's. Nevertheless, Saif delivers a credible act and the scenes rather than the standoffs between Vikram and Vedha are superbly executed- both at writing as well as performance level.<br />
<br />
The other actors - Radhika Apte as Vikram's righteous wife and Vedha's lawyer, Rohit Sharaf as Vedha's brother Shatak and Yogita Bihani as Chanda, Shatak's girlfriend are just enablers to the story of Vikram and Vedha who both loathe each other but are also dependent on each other to unravel a few mysteries in life.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The story, intricately written and non-linear in nature, demands your attention as a lot of minute details are part of the screenplay. With three solid backstories that form the core of the plot, 'Vikram Vedha' takes time to establish. I would still say that the first half is far pacier than the second half even though a lot more is unraveled during this point in the film. At some point, the narrative tends to slacken even and an unnecessary song to showcase Hrithik's dancing prowess seems forced to the narrative.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
There are a few stereotypes too, of course. The Muslim good cop/best friend is the first to fall. He uses Urdu words nonchalantly to justify his community. The Lucknow-Kanpur slangs are used too but the accents are inconsistent for both Hrithik and Saif.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
The film is a glossy Hindi remake of a film that boasted of not just a great story but superb performances by R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi. The Hindi remake is quite right there - with the same story, director and credible performances by its lead but somehow left a middling effect on me.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Make no mistake, Hrithik is superb, Saif holds his own and the story ensures that two actors get to perform their best but the film does not stay with you for too long and never elevates to its full potential.<br />

I would still say that the first half is far pacier than the second half even though a lot more is unraveled during this point in the film. At some point, the narrative tends to slacken even and an unnecessary song to showcase Hrithik's dancing prowess seems forced to the narrative. There are a few stereotypes too, of course. The Muslim good cop/best friend is the first to fall. He uses Urdu words nonchalantly to justify his community. The Lucknow-Kanpur slangs are used too but the accents are inconsistent for both Hrithik and Saif. The film is a glossy Hindi remake of a film that boasted of not just a great story but superb performances by R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi. The Hindi remake is quite right there - with the same story, director and credible performances by its lead but somehow left a middling effect on me. Make no mistake, Hrithik is superb, Saif holds his own and the story ensures that two actors get to perform their best but the film does not stay with you for too long and never elevates to its full potential. 'Vikram Vedha' is in cinemas from September 30.
