Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) got off to the worst possible start as they locked horns with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Tuesday. RCB were rocked early by LSG pacer Dushmantha Chameera, who went on to pick two wickets in two balls in the very first over.

Opening the batting with skipper Faf du Plessis, young Anuj Rawat tried to take on Chammera in the first over as he smacked him for a four on the fourth delivery of the over before trying to big again on the next delivery. Rawat tried to play a lofted shot on a shortish delivery from Chameera and the ball flew towards LSG skipper KL Rahul at mid-off.

Rahul pulled off an excellent diving catch to send the youngster packing on 4 off 5 balls. Virat Kohli arrived on the crease next and was in for a shock as he ended up giving away a catch to Deepak Hooda on the very first delivery he faced from Chameera. The left-arm pacer bowled a back of length bouncer and Kohli tried to hit it towards offside.

However, he ended up giving away a simple catch to Hooda at backward point and was left stunned as he was dismissed on a Golden Duck. Chameera completed his first over with two wickets off the last two balls and was on a hat-trick as he returned to bowl his second but failed to take three wickets in three successive deliveries as Du Plessis welcomed him with a four.

The hard-hitting left-hander went after the bowlers right from the start of his innings and launched a carnage with the bat at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.

While he was aggressive against the spinners particularly, Dube smashed Josh Hazlewood for a couple of sixes in the 20th over of CSK's innings.

The left-hander earned high praise from all corners for his stunning knock. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar also lauded the CSK all-rounder and compared him to the legendary Yuvraj Singh. Manjrekar was left impressed by Dube's ability to slam a fullish delivery from Hazlewood for a six while sitting deep in the crease in the last over.

“Hazlewood got it right, bowled it full and Dube was deep inside his crease. And to get that kind of elevation is almost impossible. He’s got this natural gift of hitting the ball a long way, Yuvraj Singh had it, Shivam Dube has it,” Manjrekar said on ESPNcricinfo.

“He’s also looking a little fitter and leaner, maybe stronger. And that shot off Wanindu Hasaranga, there was nothing wrong in that delivery, just about short of a length because he didn’t want to pitch it right up, but Dube went on the backfoot and hit it a long distance,” he stated.

“Those two shots tell you this guy is not just a hitter, he hits some incredible shots. That’s why this innings has been able to overshadow another fantastic innings that we saw,” he added.

At the start, Dube and Uthappa feasted on the RCB attack, smashing scintillating half-centuries. Earlier, invited to bat, Uthappa and Dube showed their six hitting prowess as they rallied the innings after CSK was reeling at 36 for 2.

While Uthappa's knock was studded with nine sixes and four boundaries, Dube also hit eight sixes and five fours in his unbeaten 46-ball knock. Both Dube and Uthappa posted their highest IPL scores to set up the match for defending champions CSK, who are reeling from four straight losses and are still looking for their first win this season.

Uthappa took time to settle and fetched his first boundary only in the fifth over, a cut shot off Mohammed Siraj (0/37), before clobbering Akash Deep (0/58) for his first maximum in the next over.

Uthappa and Dube then upped the ante as they hammered a boundary each off Deep and then the lanky left-handed batter launched into Glenn Maxwell (0/29) for his first six over long-on. The carnage started from the 11th over as the duo went hammer and tongs and CSK cruised to 133 for 2 in the 15th&nbsp;over, with 73 runs coming in the five overs.

Dube was brutal on Wanindu Hasaranga (2/35), who bled 13 runs, in the 11th over. Uthappa and Dube spared no bowler with the former striking three sixes off Maxwell in the 13th over as CSK amassed 19 runs.

Continuing the onslaught, the duo punished Deep in the 15th over, as it was raining boundaries and sixes here.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be desperately looking to get off the mark in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 when they take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday (April 12). The defending champions have endured a shambolic start to the season and have lost their first four matches in a row.

MS Dhoni's decision to step down from captaincy and hand over the baton to star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has not worked well for the four-time champions, who have struggled to get going this season. CSK are in a must-win situation against RCB, who have lost only out of their first four games so far this season.

CSK's biggest concern this season has been the poor form of opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and the lack of good starts at the top. While Gaikwad is yet to fire this season, his opening partner Robin Uthappa has also failed to convert his starts into big scores for the Men in Yellow. In the middle order, Ambati Rayudu is yet to find his groove while MS Dhoni has been under the scanner once again for his poor strike rate.

In their last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, CSK bowlers were taken to the cleaners by Abhishek Sharma, who slammed a brilliant 75 to help his team chase down the target of 155 runs comfortably. CSK had dropped South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorious for the game and picked Sri Lankan mystery spinner&nbsp;Maheesh Theekshana in his place.

However, the Sri Lankan spinner went wicket-less while conceding 31 runs off his four overs. CSK might bring back Pretorious in the XI for Theekshana as the Proteas all-rounder has done well with the ball in the season so far. Brevis trapped Kohli lbw in the 19th over to deny the RCB star a half-century. On-field umpire &nbsp;K. N. Ananthapadmanabhan adjudged Kohli out but the RCB batter reviewed the decision. However, much to his disappointment even the third umpire failed to find any conclusive evidence to overturn the decision despite replays suggesting that the ball might have hit the bat and the pad at the same time.

Kohli was left fuming after the controversial call went against him and he was sent packing by the 18-year-old South African prodigy, who has been backed by many to have a great future in the IPL. Kohli was seen smashing his bat on the ground in frustration as he walked out of the ground after his dismissal.

IPL 2022: Royal Challengers Bangalore share MCC law after Virat Kohli's controversial dismissal

Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Harshal Patel has left the IPL bio-bubble following the death of a family member.

PTI has learnt that Harshal exited the bubble after getting to know about the tragedy in the family right after the game against Mumbai Indians.

Harshal has been the star performer for RCB over the past couple of seasons and took two wickets on Saturday night in the team's seven wicket win over MI.

The 31-year-old has played eight T20Is after making his debut last year. 
RCB face Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday.

Mumbai Indians are currently last in the table of 10 teams because of inferior net run-rate compared to CSK but the road towards redemption is becoming difficult with every passing match.
