Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has been recalled to the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which is set to begin from October 17, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement on Saturday (October 9).&nbsp;

The 39-year-old will make his sixth appearance at the Twenty20 World Cup as he has replaced injured middle-order batsman Sohaib Maqsood, who was ruled out of the showpiece tournament after suffering a lower back injury in a domestic match earlier this year.&nbsp;

"Sohaib is devastated to miss out on the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup as he had worked hard for this event and was in sparkling form. We feel for him but injuries are part and parcel of the sport," said Pakistan's chief selector Muhammad Wasim.&nbsp;

"I am sure after undergoing rehabilitation, he'll fully recover to be available for future assignments," he added.&nbsp;

"In his place and following discussions with the team management, we have decided to include Shoaib Malik in the side. I am sure Shoaib’s experience will be handy for the entire squad," he added.&nbsp;

Malik was part of the Pakistan squad that won the coveted trophy in 2009 and before that, he captained the team in the inaugural event in 2007 edition. The all-rounder missed the 2010 World Cup in the West Indies but featured in the last three editions.

The Pakistan squad will depart for Dubai on October 15 and will play warm-up matches against West Indies and South Africa before beginning their campaign with a blockbuster clash with arch-rivals India on October 24 in Dubai.

Pakistan Cricket Board chief Wasim Khan resigns after New Zealand and England tour chaos

Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq, who also served as the Pakistan Cricket Board`s (PCB) chief selector, underwent a successful angioplasty on Monday after suffering a heart attack in Lahore. According to a report in cricketpakistan.com.pk, the 51-year-old Inzamam had been in a state of discomfort "for the past three days where the right-hand batter complained about chest pain". 
 
Doctors initially cleared the legendary cricketer after preliminary tests but upon further inspection, "it was revealed that the 51-year-old had suffered a heart attack". He was immediately rushed to hospital for surgery. Inzamam`s agent informed the media on Monday evening that the former cricketer`s condition was now stable but "he remains under observation for the time being".

Inzamam is one of Pakistan cricket`s most successful captains, and also one of the most decorated ones. He shot to fame in the 1992 World Cup and became the country`s leading run-scorer in ODIs with 11,739 runs in 378 matches. He is also the third highest run-getter in Tests for Pakistan, having scored close to 9,000 runs in 120 matches. 
 
After retiring from cricket, he remained connected with Pakistan cricket in different capacities and also served as batting consultant and chief selector. Inzy has also worked as head coach of Afghanistan. Inzamam had stepped down as Pakistan`s chief selector in July 2019 and had announced that he would not seek an extension or renewal of his contract. "After more than three years as chief selector, I have decided not to seek a renewal of my contract," Inzaman had said.

A spokesperson of the&nbsp;Team England Player Partnership (TEPP) denied players' involvement in the decision to not tour Pakistan.

"At no stage has the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) ever asked Team England Player Partnership or the teams, men and women, whether the tour should go ahead or whether players were prepared to tour Pakistan," a TEPP spokesperson was quoted as saying by British media.

Pakistan will now focus on preparing for the upcoming T20 World Cup after both New Zealand and England pulled out of their respective tours. The Babar Azam-led side will open their World Cup campaign against arch-rivals India on October 24.

After the cancellation of the two tours, the PCB had approached a few Boards to arrange an international series at home before the T20 World Cup but now it has decided to organise a domestic event.

"Initial talks were held with some boards including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe but it was then decided to focus on the National T20 Championship as all the main players are available for the event and it is a curtain-raiser to the World Cup for us now," the official said.

He said that Sri Lanka players would be in Oman holding a training camp ahead of their World Cup qualifying matches from October 17 as they have to qualify for the Super-12 stage.

"Bangladesh agreed to send a B team and Zimbabwe were also willing to come but we, after discussions, decided that since time was short it was better to focus on the domestic event," he said. The official said the cancellation of the home series against New Zealand and England was a big setback for the country but it was heartening to see that cricket world had sympathy for Pakistan cricket.

"Nearly everyone believes that Pakistan cricket has been treated badly and deserves to have proper international cricket." The Board is now planning to send the World Cup squad and reserves a bit earlier to the UAE so that they can settle in properly after completing their quarantine periods. Asked about the tours by West Indies and Australia, the official said the Board has been in touch with them.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a statement after New Zealand abandoned their tour of Pakistan following a "security alert" on Friday (September 17), when the first match of the series was due to start.&nbsp;

New Zealand were supposed to play Pakistan on Friday in the first of three ODIs in Rawalpindi, before moving to Lahore for a five-match T20 series.

After the cancellation, PCB wrote in a statement: "Earlier today, the New Zealand cricket board informed us that they had been alerted to some security alert and have unilaterally decided to postpone the series. PCB and Govt of Pakistan made fool proof security arrangements for all visiting teams."

"We have assured the NZ cricket board of the same. The Prime Minister spoke personally to the Prime Minister of New Zealand and informed her that we have one of the best Intelligence systems in the world and that no security threat of any kind exists for the visiting team."

"The security officials with the NZ team have been satisfied with security arrangements made by the Govt of Pakistan throughout their stay here,"

"PCB is willing to continue the scheduled matches. However, cricket lovers in Pakistan and around the world will be disappointed by this last minute withdrawal," the statement concluded.&nbsp;

New Zealand Cricket also announced the cancellation in an official statement on its website as the officials&nbsp;wrote, "Following an escalation in the New Zealand Government threat levels for Pakistan, and advice from NZC security advisors on the ground, it has been decided the BLACKCAPS will not continue with the tour. Arrangements are now being made for the team's departure."

The statement also added that New Zealand will not comment on the details of the security threat nor the updated arrangements for the departing squad.&nbsp;
