Kolkata Knight Riders, under the new leadership of Eoin Morgan, suffered a crushing eight-wicket defeat to Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi on Friday but wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock has said that the Mumbai outfit is still not thinking about playoffs and are taking it one game at a time.

Mumbai Indians are sitting atop the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 points table with 12 points to their name after eight matches. With MI defeating KKR yet again in IPL courtesy, de Kock’s splendid knock of 78 not-out.

"We did not plan much before this game, we know what are our strengths, it is a matter of doing what we have been doing, in our team we have a lot of experience and it is a matter of just doing the things on the field," said de Kock during the post-match press conference.

"The preparations for playoffs have not started yet, it is about taking one game at a time, whatever happens, we have to keep it simple and we need to play to our strengths. After Rohit Sharma laid the platform with a 45-ball 70, Pollard and Hardik whacked KXIP bowlers all over the park to help MI reach 191 runs in 20 overs.

In the final over, MI bagged 25 runs off Krishnappa Gowtham with the last three bals landing in the stands of the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Reviewing the performance with the willow, Pollard said that with him and Pandya brothers in the middle-order, the sky is the limit for the four-time IPL winners when it comes to the last four overs.

"We know sky is the limit in the last four overs," said Mumbai Indians all-rounder Kieron Pollard after adding 67 runs in 23 balls with Hardik Pandya.

"Today Hardik had to come and swing and he showed his prowess. We know sky is the limit in the last four overs."

KKR will be playing their first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Mumbai Indians on September 23 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

"They (Mumbai Indians) have a team of world-class players, they are a strong lineup and the amount of IPL titles they have shows that. It's good that we are playing Mumbai early in the tournament, every year is a different year, I am sure it will be a great game tomorrow," said Dinesh Karthik during a virtual press conference.

Kolkata has a poor head-to-head record against Mumbai. The two teams have played 25 matches against each other, out of which 19 have been won by Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai.

KKR has bolstered their lineup with the addition of England skipper Eoin Morgan, Australian pacer Pat Cummins, USA pacer Ali Khan, and Australian spinner Chris Green. The side finished fifth in 2019 IPL and now it would be looking to go all the way.

Speaking during the press conference, Morgan spoke about how is ready for the finisher's role, if he is asked to do so. "I think with the squad we have, it gives us a lot of options in both batting and bowling. I think within the squad we have a number of versatile cricketers. I know Andre Russell has played the role of a finisher for KKR, hopefully, if I do get the role of a finisher, I will do that," said Morgan.

Dinesh Karthik also hinted at Shubman Gill and Sunil Narine opening the batting for the franchise. "Shubham is a gun, he is a quality player, I am sure he will exceed all expectations, its good to have him, Gill and Narine make a good opening combination," he said.

Talking about the bowlers in his group, Karthik said: "We have had conversations about the speed that the spinners need to bowl here. We have spoken about it, every franchise must be talking about the speed and length spinners need to bowl in the UAE. All Indian pacers are shaping well, it will be hard to decide as to who will start the tournament. They have come around nicely, we are in a good shape. It's important we as KKR choose the right eleven."

IPL 2020: What will be the biggest challenge in UAE? Mumbai Indians' Trent Boult explains

IPL Face-off: Intense rivalry between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings

In what comes as good news for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 fans, all Chennai Super Kings players, who were not in quarantine, have tested negative for COVID-19. CSK are now set to commence their practice session after completing their quarantine phase and will look forward to take to the field in the lucrative T20 tournament.

As per a report in TOI, CSK have been unofficially informed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that they will play the season opener against Mumbai Indians on September 19 with the schedule officially expected to be released on Friday.

After the news of 13 members including two players in the CSK contingent broke out, the BCCI delayed the announcement of IPL 2020 schedule. Speculation was rife that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) could play Mumbai Indians (MI) in the season opener of 13th edition of IPL.

However, the board is happy with the latest round of results and how the virus hasn’t spread to other teammates. Now, they are planning to release the schedule with CSK vs MI as opener.

"It's not a problem at all. We will be happy to play game 1 if we are asked to," a CSK source told TOI.

However, CSK will be without Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad while Suresh Raina have opted out of IPL 2020. Even Harbhajan Singh is likely to pull out of the tournament. Without much training, it will be a massive challenge for CSK to hit the ground running when IPL starts.

ALSO READ: Harbhajan Singh likely to skip IPL 2020: Report However, the board is happy with the latest round of results and how the virus hasn’t spread to other teammates. IPL 2020: KKR and MI to start training after relaxation of Abu Dhabi quarantine norms

Selflessness defines a leader in Rohit Sharma's captaincy rulebook and that's why he has no hesitation in calling himself the "least important person" in the Mumbai Indians team, the most successful franchise in IPL's history.

Indian cricket will hit the restart button with the IPL from September 19 in the UAE even as the world continues its frenzied battle to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

The man, who led Mumbai Indians to four titles, knows that as captain, it will not just be about him getting back into the groove after a forced seven-month break.

"I believe in a theory that when you are captain, you are the least important person. Others become more important in the larger scheme of things. It works differently for different leaders but as far as I am concerned, this theory works for me," Rohit told PTI in an exclusive interview.

Suresh Raina recently compared his cool quotient to that of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He prefers to play down the comparison but there is one undeniable similarity between the two -- Rohit can also remain as unfazed as the former India captain in the most difficult of situations.

"Not showing anger is not a conscious effort," he laughs.

"That's a natural instinct that you have and you don't try and be someone that you are not. Try and be yourself all the time," he said.

"You do get angry, lose temper at times but it's important not to show it to your teammates. Hiding your emotions is the most crucial part."

The Indian vice-captain believes that there is "enough time" before the IPL starts and he would slowly build on his strength, stamina and skills during the next one month after the long lay-off.

"Hopefully, the gym will open this week and I can start my indoor (strength training) sessions. Right now, due to Mumbai monsoons, you can't train outdoor. I am planning to write a letter to MCA (on using indoor facilities)," he said.

Having won an Asia Cup in Dubai in 2018, he has a fair idea about what awaits his team next month in terms of conditions.

Rohit said the plan is to build up slowly after being away from his bat for the longest he can remember.

"We have lot of time in our hands...I will be taking it slow. Luckily, I don't think there is any rush that I need to show. We have enough time. I will work on getting back to the ground slowly because the temperature in Dubai is 40 degrees. It's not easy," he said.

"It's the longest gap that I have ever had in my career without holding a bat. It will be a bit challenging. Unless I play, I will not know where I am and how I feel but body is completely fine. I feel physically more strong than ever because of the last four months," Rohit said.

He has consistently been in touch with MI's core team of strategists on conference call discussing the details of the challenge ahead in the UAE, where the IPL will be held in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.

"It's a good environment to be in. It's challenging but I love challenges and I want an environment like this. My mind has been relaxed for last five months...,? he said.

"...Your planning changes a lot. Pitches in Dubai are a bit on the slower side. The pitches are not so different from India but yes overhead conditions will be a big factor as you are not always used to playing in 40 degrees which can be a bit of a challenge," he explained.

"As much as we sit and plan things here, it could completely change once we are there and check out the conditions and then think about ideal combinations," he felt.

For him, it's important that youngsters can look up to him and draw confidence.

"You need to give confidence to the younger players, some of them haven't played the IPL before, don't have international exposure. I need to make sure they are in the best zone, not pressurised by the moment and get those little performances from everyone," he said.

Asked about some of the youngsters he is looking forward to seeing this year, the skipper made it clear that he never found naming favourites and comparisons healthy.

"When I was a 20-year-old, trust me I never liked comparisons. Know one thing, you should never pit two young guys against each other. They don't feel good about it.

"It's important that everyone is treated the same and then it's purely up to them as to what they do with their careers and how they take it forward," the easygoing batsman, who has nearly 14,000 international runs, said.

Talking about time away from the game in a lockdown, Rohit spoke about how it helped him reflect on his life outside the rigours of 22 yards.

A life in which he is first and foremost a loving husband and a doting dad.

"I probably understood the importance of family more than ever before. Through the year, through your playing career, they sacrifice so much for you, you are home for a short time and always on the road," he said.

"It was icing on the cake because my daughter (Samaira) is just growing up. It's these years of her life that I don't want to miss. The first step that she takes, the first words spoken.

"Spending so much time with her, playing with her, putting her to sleep, it was pure joy," he concluded.

Shane Watson confident of Chennai coming back stronger in IPL 2020

IPL 2019 is over, Rohit Sharma- led- Mumbai went on to win their fourth IPL crown beating Chennai in the finals.

Dhoni's team would take some time to recover from this defeat as this narrow loss by 1 run is a bitter pill to swallow.

If we take a look at the last two seasons of the tournament, Chennai has proved that they are the best when it comes to making it to the finals of the tournament. They played back to back two finals just after being disgraced by a two-year ban (2016 and 2017).

In 2018, It was a dream comeback for Chennai Super Kings on the IPL horizon by winning the title.

For any sports fan, the thrill of following their favourite sports is not just contained to the live action of exciting matches and triumph of his or her favourite stars, but also in the stories that are retained and discussed over and over again with peers and future generations.

One such great story in the history of cricket will surely be the amazing comeback of Dhoni-led Chennai. It was a dark phase in the history of Indian cricket, marred by shadows of match-fixing and subversion of the spirit of cricket by personal interest and unabashed profiteering. Perhaps what hurt fans the most was that aspersions were cast over India's most successful captain - MS Dhoni.

Dhoni is blessed with one of the sharpest cricket brains. With his ability to read his opponent's mind and the game situation, Dhoni seems to be in a class of his own.

The roaring comeback of the franchise only goes to show that true genius will always find its way to the top, even though the worst of times. Of all the IPL franchises, Chennai is the only one which is without a true bona fide global superstar who is in his prime. MS Dhoni has passed his best, Raina can't find a place in the Indian team anymore, and a few fans across the world can put their hand on their heart and say that Du Plessis and Tahir will be sure starters in their world XI.

The success of Chennai is not owed to the brilliance of individual talents, but to the fact that this carefully picked squad clicks together in the moments that matter. Indeed, none of the Chennai players features in the list of top 5 run scorers this season, yet they reached the final.

When this Chennai squad came together after the 2018 IPL auction, it was mocked by many as "Dad's army" for the absence of young blood in its core. However, the team stands vindicated and have indeed proven that experience and a sensible approach to situations can make all the difference even in a format as fast moving as T20 cricket.
