Pakistan batter Mohammad Rizwan helped his team create history in the ODI World Cup 2023 after beating Sri Lanka by six wickets on October 10. The wicketkeeper braved some cramps during an unbeaten innings of 131 runs and said that 'it is speechless' to perform like this for the country.

“Whenever you perform for your country and the performance is like, it is speechless for you,” Rizwan said to Simon Doull for the ICC while speaking after his Player of the Match award.

“It was difficult because with a chase like that it’s always special. But the thing is for us, when we went into the dressing room after bowling, every player had belief that we were going to chase that. So that’s why the positive vibes were in the mind,” he further added.

Rizwan also said that there were two turning points in the game, one of which came after Pakistan got Kusal Mendis out after the batter scored 77-ball 122.

"At that point we decided that 340-350, if we restrict them to there we’re going to bowl very well. You saw in the middle of our overs, when Hasan Ali comes on, Shaheen Shah Afridi comes on and Haris Rauf, they bowled very well and restricted them then.

“We really must give credit to Kusal and Sadeera (Samarawickrama – Sri Lanka’s other century maker on the day). They played very well, but we knew that the pitch was very good and if the target was 350 we could chase that," he said.

The next point, Rizwan mentioned, was his skipper and arguably Pakistan's best batter Babar Azam getting out.

“Unluckily they got Babar Azam, but this is a team game and at that time we decided to go with a deep partnership.

“Basically, a chase of 300-plus is always… it’s a good track, a supportive wicket for us. If we go deep and just turn the innings into a T20 innings towards the end, that’s what we decided,” said Rizwan.

Pakistan completed the record chase of 344/4 in 48.2 overs and apart from Rizwan, Abdullah Shafique also scored 113 runs.

ODI World Cup 2023: Shafique, Rizwan demonstrate Pak's credentials in record-breaking run chase against SL

Pakistan opened their Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign with an 81-run win over the Netherlands on Friday 6) Oct in Hyderabad, India. Far from convincing, but this win will up their momentum in this long 10-team tournament. While Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel starred with the bat, hitting 68 each, Bas de Leede’s heroics with both bat and ball kept the Netherlands in the game.

Electing to bowl first after winning the toss, the Netherlands bowlers reduced Pakistan to 38 for three at one stage inside the Powerplay, with both openers and Captain Babar Azam returning to the pavilion. Keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan and young Saud Shakeel steadied Pakistan’s innings with a 120-run stand.

While Saud was the aggressor of the two, hitting the Dutch bowlers to all parts of the ground, Rizwan played a typical Rizwan-kind-of-innings. During the second half of the first innings, Bas de Leede turned the momentum towards the Netherlands with four wickets.

Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz then gave the finishing touches as Pakistan, despite losing wickets at regular intervals, scored a fighting total of 286 runs.

Haris shines as Pakistan beat Netherlands

Hasan Ali picked the Netherlands' first wicket by removing Max O'Dowd on five. Vikramjit Singh, the in-form batter, kept the chase going with his beautiful stroke play.

Coming in as a part-timer in Friday’s game, Iftikhar Ahmed bowled Colin Ackermann on 17.

Star with the ball in hand earlier, Bas de Leede came to the crease to accelerate the Netherlands chase. Stitching a 70-run stand with Vikramjit, who scored 52 off 67 balls, de Leede completed his fifty and had the Dutch positioned evenly.

Following Vikramjit’s wicket, seamer Haris Rauf picked two to further put the Netherlands’ back against the wall. His fellow pacers Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali picked a wicket each, but Rauf headlined the second innings with three scalps to his name. Shadab Khan returned with a wicket, and Nawaz had Bas de Leede’s number.

Though Logan van Beek slammed a few shots to keep the fans entertained, it wasn’t enough for the Dutch team to remain in the chase, as they got all out on 205 in 41 overs.

While Pakistan will face Sri Lanka on October 10 in their next tie before flying to Ahmedabad for the marquee India clash, the Netherlands will go one-on-one against New Zealand in Hyderabad on October 9.

Bas de Leeds strikes gold as Netherlands restrict Pakistan to fighting total in their ODI World Cup opener

Former India opener Aakash Chopra was full of praise for Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan after he helped his side start on a positive note in the Super Four leg of Asia Cup 2023. Rizwan’s unbeaten 63 coupled with Imam-ul-Haq’s well-made 78-run knock helped Pakistan register a seven-wicket win against Bangladesh on Wednesday, September 6 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Chopra full of praise for Rizwan

"Mohammad Rizwan - I like this player a lot. He is a warrior and he keeps fighting. The more pressure you put on him, the more he flourishes. Whether you play him in T20Is, ODIs or Tests, somehow whenever Pakistan are struggling, it brings the best out of him,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Pakistan needed Rizwan and Co to be at their fluent best in the first Super Four clash as they continued their winning momentum. Rizwan in particular has been in great touch for the side, having scored five fifties in the ODI format since the turn of the year.

"Here also he stayed till the end and won them the match. He played very good sweeps and danced down the wicket to hit over cover. He plays spin extremely well and he has a very good pick-up shot against fast bowling. So Mohammad Rizwan is actually a very, very good player."

India vs Pakistan clash on cards

Rizwan’s next challenge will be against India in the high-voltage clash on Sunday, September 10. Pakistan were at their fluent best with the ball in the group stage meeting as they attempted to beat India for the sixth time in the tournament. However, the contest was called off due to rain.

Sunday’s clash will be the 15th meeting between the sides at the continental event with India leading 7-5 in the head-to-head tally. India qualified for the Super Four after beating Nepal by 10 wickets in a rain-curtailed contest while Pakistan beat the same opposition by 238 runs. The superior net run rate saw the co-hosts qualify as group winners for the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup.

Pakistan's leg-spinner Shadab Khan was named as captain for the Afghanistan T20Is on Monday as star players like regular skipper Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan among others rested. The board also appointed former batter Mohammad Yousuf as the interim head and batting coach for the Afghanistan T20Is. "Babar, Fakhar, Haris, Rizwan and Shaheen have been provided breaks from the short Sharjah trip to allow them to switch off from competitive cricket so that they can complete their rehabilitations, regroup, recompose and recharge their batteries and be fully fit for the challenges in the tough and challenging 2023-24 season," said Chair of the selection committee, Haroon Rashid.

PCB chairman Najam Sethi also commented on Shadab’s promotion to becoming a T20I captain, saying, "I want to congratulate Shadab Khan on his appointment as the Pakistan team captain for the series against Afghanistan. Shadab Khan has been the Pakistan vice-captain in white-ball cricket for the past couple of years and, logically, he takes over the side in the absence of Babar Azam for the short three-match T20I tour of Sharjah.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is pondering over giving much-required rest to star players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Haris Rauf to manage workloads ahead of Asia Cup and World Cup later this year. As per the latest report in ESPNcricinfo, PCB might rest the trio for the upcoming Afghanistan T20Is and the New Zealand T20Is that follow.

Following the latest selection committee meeting in which workload management of several top players was one of the topics for discussion, the possibility of bringing in new players and resting the big names grew big time.

Considering the amount of cricket that these three players have played across all formats (including international and domestic) since the start of January 2021 - Rizwan (150), Babar (127) and Haris (125), giving them rest ahead of the second half of the year looks like a viable option.

Meanwhile, with this step comes another problem – the captaincy one, as Babar is an all-format skipper, and not having him for nearly eight T20 matches (three against Afghanistan and five against New Zealand), meaning the appointment of a new skipper. While talks in the PCB have suggested that Shadab Khan is looked up to as a potential option, the board is also keen on getting ace seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi to lead the Pakistan's T20I side in Babar’s absence. As reported by the same publication, PCB is believed to have approached him for the role early this year.

Returning from the knee injury that saw him missing major part of last year’s cricket including the home series against England and New Zealand, the 22-year-old Afridi is not bad for an option given his credentials in the PSL lately.

With the limited experience of leading his team Lahore Qalandars in around 22 matches so far, Afridi had led to their maiden PSL title in 2022 and under his tutelage this time also, they have reached the playoffs.

Though no confirmation on the same is out yet, a decision around this call will be taken anytime soon.

PCB pondering over resting Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan for Afghanistan, New Zealand T20Is to manage workloads

Pakistan cricketer Mohammed Rizwan has revealed that he had asked the team management to be dropped from the two-match Test series against New Zealand last month.

Pakistan cricketer Mohammed Rizwan has revealed that he had asked the team management to be dropped from the two-match Test series against New Zealand last month. The wicketkeeper batter said he did not deserve a place in the playing XI after a string of disappointing performances. “You can ask the head coach Saqlain Mushtaq what I told him after the end of the England Test series," Rizwan was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan. “I went to the coach and captain myself and told them that you can drop me because I haven’t performed. Two players are witnesses to this conversation," he added. Rizwan admitted that he was happy to see his replacement Sarfaraz perform well and contribute to the team's cause. "I was happy to see Sarfaraz perform because that is what I wanted. I personally thought that since I wasn’t able to perform, I didn’t deserve to play in the next series." WATCH | Babar gives blunt response when asked if he regrets not playing Sarfaraz Ahmed for four years Ahmed had a terrific series with the bat as he smashed 335 runs in the Two tests with an average of 83.75. He ended the series as Pakistan's highest run-getter. The former Pakistan captain made his comeback into the Test squad after four long years in the wilderness. While Rizwan claims he played a part in Ahmed's selection, the latter had smashed a century and a half-century in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy in the last two outings in Sindh, prior to the comeback call. Skipper Babar Azam in a press conference also conceded that Ahmed was selected based on his performance. "As I mentioned before in the Test match presser, the way he waited, he remained undeterred and didn't lose hope. He did all his training, wicket-keeping and batting with dedication and executed his plans to perfection when he got a chance. He played a great knock in a crunch situation and that's a hallmark of an experienced player. It was a dream comeback for sure." (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

Asked coach and captain to drop me: Mohammed Rizwan on not playing the New Zealand Test series

There is always plenty happening in Pakistan cricket. In late 2022, Ramiz Raja was sacked as Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chairman as Najam Sethi once again took over the post. Shahid Afridi acted as the interim chief selector before Haroon Rashid succeeded him. With Saqlain Mushtaq's tenure getting over as the head coach, there have been lots of talk regarding who will succeed the former spinner. While there were speculations of Justin Langer getting the role, the reports fizzled out sooner than later as Mickey Arthur's name started doing the rounds.

Arthur is currently serving a long-term deal with Derbyshire and isn't willing to end his County stint. Nonetheless, reportedly he was offered the role of Pakistan's head coach -- which he had served from 2016-2019 -- and is likely to become Pakistan's first online coach as PCB are keen to rehire him. Amid all this, a lot has been said and written about PCB looking set to reappoint Arthur in the Pakistan cricket setup. Sikander Bakht, Pakistan's former batter who represented the national side in 26 Tests, has joined the bandwagon and stated that Arthur might join as team director. In addition, he made a big claim over foreign coach's presence in Pakistan team setup.

'Do you think any of these can tell anything to Babar, Shadab, Shaheen?'

“I was with the Pakistan team as assistant coach from 2000-2003. The guy who was above me hadn't played a single ODI, but everyone listened to him. He was a South African, I don't remember his name. Once, I tried to tell something to one of the players but he interrupted me, saying ‘I’ve played 40 Tests, you've played 26. Let me handle it'. He actually said that. Do you think any of these can tell anything to Babar, Shadab, Shaheen? If someone comes up and tells them anything, they will…” Bakht said before he was interrupted by the anchors on Geo Super.

When one of the anchor interrupted and asked if there's a need for a person who ensures everyone listens to them, Bakht replied saying, "Foreign coach ke saath ye log (players) sahi rehte hain. Vo angrez rehta hai toh ye log uss se darte hain (These players are kept in check with foreign coaches. Because he's a foreigner, they are scared of him). You see, we had Javed Miandad, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Mohammad Yousuf as coaches. But no one could handle the players,” concluded the former Pakistan cricketer.

Recently, former captain and coach Misbah-ul-Haq also reacted to Arthur's likely appointment as the online coach. He didn't mince his words while speaking to ESPNCricinfo, and said, "It is a slap on our cricket system that we are not able to find a high-profile full-time coach. It is a shame that the best ones do not want to come and we insist on having someone who is looking at Pakistan as a second option." In addition, blasted Pakistan's cricket system, and several ex-cricketers, for using their YouTube channels for ratings. "I blame our own system, which is vulnerable enough with so many weak lines for anyone to exploit it. We are to be blamed ourselves that we have disrespected and discredited our own people to make a bad image. The present and former lot do not respect each other, with media and former players using their own YouTube channels for ratings, grossly hitting the credibility and value of our cricket which, as as result, gives an impression that we are not capable," the former right-handed batter further asserted.

'Players are in check...': Ex-cricketer on likely appointment of Mickey Arthur as Pakistan's online coach

Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed made a stunning return to the Test side with three back-to-back fifties and a hundred across four innings against New Zealand in the recently-concluded Test series. Ending the two-match series with 335 runs, Sarfaraz not only was leading the runs chart but also ensured his place in the team for the upcoming tours. Sarfaraz replaced Mohammad Rizwan in the Test side after the ranked number 2 batter in T20Is failed to leave an impact during the England Tests at home scoring a mere 141 runs across six innings at an average of 23.50.

Following Sarfaraz coming-of- age hundred against the Kiwis in the second innings of the Karachi Test, new interim chief selector, Shahid Afridi had some encouraging words for him. While Afridi praised Sarfaraz for showing character and delivering it for the team, he made it clear that Mohammad Rizwan will remain Pakistan’s main keeper-batter in white-ball format at least.

Addressing the same in a presser, the former Pakistan skipper said, “I’m very happy that Saifi (Sarfaraz) has made a comeback and given such an amazing performance, but Mohammad Rizwan is available and he is our main wicket-keeper in both T20Is and ODIs.”

“God forbid if Rizwan gets injured or if he’s tired, we’ll then consider other options. Let’s not mix someone’s Test performance with that of limited overs,” Afridi further added.

After a rather dismal show in Tests at home, where Pakistan failed to win a single Test in the whole season, the action will now move to the One-Dayers that are starting from January 9th in Karachi. The three-match ODIs will be played at the National Stadium itself.

While Mohammad Rizwan was picked in the 16-man ODI squad, Sarfaraz was overlooked as of now. Big names like Fakhar Zaman and Haris Rauf also made a return alongside Haris Sohail, who will be seen playing in ODIs for the first time since October 2020.

India and Pakistan locked horns in the 2021 T20 World Cup after a long gap, following the 2019 ODI World Cup. While the head-to-head record favoured India, the then Virat Kohli-led Indian team fell flat against the Babar Azam-led Pakistan line-up. Being asked to bat first, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, Kohli & Co. managed a modest 151 for 7, after being 31 for 3 at one stage, and didn't put up any sort of fight while defending the total. As a result, skipper Babar and Md Rizwan's unbeaten 152-run opening stand took the Men in Green to their first-ever World Cup win over their arch-rivals.

Rizwan, in an interview with Sky Sports Cricket, recalled his side's epic win over Team India last year. He revealed how the Pakistan fans responded to the win and went all-out in their love and admiration for the national side. "When we won against India, that time, I thought it was only a match for me. It was because we won that game easily. But when I came to Pakistan, I realised how much it meant. Whenever I went to a shop, they won't take money from me. They would say, 'you go, you go. Rizwan (79 not out) and Babar (68 not out) were the top performers with the bat but Shaheen Afridi set it up for his side with an impressive 3 for 31 with the ball.

On Wednesday (November 10), Pakistan thrashed New Zealand by seven wickets in the T20 World Cup 2022 edition's first semi-final, at the SCG, Sydney, to enter the finale. Winning the toss, Kane Williamson-led Black Caps opted to bat first but only managed a modest 152 for 4 riding on Darly Mitchell's 53*.

In reply, Md Rizwan and Babar Azam stitched their ninth 100-wicket stand to guide Pakistan home, with seven wickets and five balls to spare. Rizwan, who scored an impressive 57 whereas Babar departed for 53, was adjudged the Player-of-the-Match. Speaking to Star Sports after Pakistan's famous win, Rizwan said that Pakistan are hoping for a final versus India, but are also ready for England. The second semi-final is between India and England, at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, on Thursday (November 10).

Rizwan told, "Our boys said that they were hoping for a final against India. Some players have been comparing our campaign to the 1992 World Cup, so they are fine with facing England in the final as well. According to me, the biggest series in the world is the Ashes, but even bigger than that is an India vs Pakistan match. The whole world will enjoy that matchup. What else can I ask for."

'Hoping for...': Rizwan makes Pakistan's opposition choice loud and clear after reaching T20 WC final

Pakistan have had a topsy-turvy ride in the T20 World Cup 2022 edition in Australia. Having lost their Super 12 opener in a thrilling clash versus India, they also went down to Zimbabwe but won three in a row, and were helped by the Netherlands, to enter the semi-finals of the mega event. Now, they are set to face Kane Williamson-led New Zealand in the first of the two semi-finals of the showpiece event Down Under.

Ahead of Pakistan's semis clash versus New Zealand, former Aussie captain, Ricky Ponting has named Shaheen Shah Afridi as the key player from the Men in Green camp. Speaking to the ICC's official website, Punter said, "He might say that he's not back to 100 per cent just yet, but from what I've seen it looks like he's going along beautifully and he now holds the key for Pakistan progressing in the tournament. (I never had any doubt) as you just know what he's capable of when he's out there on the field. And as I said, even if he's not at 100 per cent, if he's operating at 90 per cent, he's still going to have more of an impact on games than most because of how good he is."

The two-time ODI World Cup-winning captain Ponting said, "So look, he might have had a few worries in the back of his own mind and the Pakistan hierarchy and coaching group might have had a few worries in their mind, but not anymore. He's got through really well so far and hopefully for them two more games to go.”

Talking about Shaheen's run so far in the T20 WC, the pacer started off slowly but ended the Super 12 round with a four-fer versus Bangladesh. Overall, he has accounted for eight wickets from five games in the main draw of the competition, at an average of 14.75. Babar & Co. will hope for him to run through the Kiwi batting line-up on Wednesday at the iconic SCG, Sydney and confirm a spot in the T20 WC final. Shaheen has always fancied playing against the Black Caps. He ended with a stunning 3 for 28 in 10 overs during the Pakistan-NZ group stage clash in the 2019 ODI WC and followed it up with a tidy spell when both sides met in the 2021 T20 WC Super 12 round, ending with 1 for 21. The last two Pak-NZ World Cup face-offs have resulted in a win for the Men in Green.

T20 WC 2022: Not Babar Azam! Ricky Ponting names key player for Pakistan ahead of semi-final vs New Zealand

India`s Suryakumar Yadav has grabbed the top position for batters in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men's T20I Player Rankings after smashing two half-centuries over the past week in the Men's T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Yadav's 51 not out off 25 balls against the Netherlands in Sydney and a valiant 68 off 40 against South Africa in Perth have helped him overtake New Zealand's Devon Conway and Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan. They had held the top spot since 4 September this year.

Yadav is the 23rd player to top the T20I batting rankings and only the second Indian to reach No. 1 in T20 cricket after Virat Kohli, who spent 1,013 days at the top in different periods from September 2014 to December 2017. Yadav's tally of 863 rating points is also the second-best by an Indian, the highest being Kohli's tally of 897 in September 2014.New Zealand`s Glenn Phillips has moved up five slots to reach a career-best seventh position after scores of 104 against Sri Lanka and 62 against England, while South Africa's Rilee Rossouw is another one to enter the top 10 after scoring 109 against Bangladesh, moving up 17 slots to a career-best eighth position.

Hasaranga, who became No.1 during the ICC Men`s T20 World Cup last year, has moved back towards the top position after winning one wicket against New Zealand and three against Afghanistan. Hasaranga has only three points less than Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan. New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner has moved into the top 10 while his teammates Trent Boult and Tim Southee have taken the 12th and 16th positions, respectively. South Africa fast bowler Lungi Ngidi`s Player of the Match effort of four for 29 against India has lifted him 11 places to join 28th with India`s Axar Patel.

ICC T20I Rankings: Suryakumar Yadav becomes No. 1 batter, ends Pakistan opener Md Rizwan's reign

The T20 World Cup 2022 edition is certainly not for the faint hearted. With each passing day, the race for the semi-finals gets complicated in the two groups. Talking about Group 2, it will see Pakistan locking horns with South Africa -- the only unbeaten side in the competition -- in a crucial Super 12 clash on Thursday (November 03).

A win for South Africa will all but confirm them a spot in the semi-finals, which they missed out on NRR in last year's edition. On the other hand, Pakistan remain alive by the barest of margins and a defeat will surely bring an end to their hopes of lifting the title for the second time, since 2009. Thus, both sides have all to play for in a battle which is expected to go down to the wire.

It is to be noted that the Proteas have never beaten Pakistan in this tournament. Their last face-off in the competition came in T20 WC 2012 in Sri Lanka. Will SA regain the top spot and book a place in the semis? Or, will Babar Azam & Co. breathe another day in the marquee event in Australia?

On the other hand, Pakistan remain alive by the barest of margins and a defeat will surely bring an end to their hopes of lifting the title for the second time, since 2009. Thus, both sides have all to play for in a battle which is expected to go down to the wire. It is to be noted that the Proteas have never beaten Pakistan in this tournament. Their last face-off in the competition came in T20 WC 2012 in Sri Lanka. Will SA regain the top spot and book a place in the semis? Or, will Babar Azam & Co. breathe another day in the marquee event in Australia? T20 WC 2022, Pakistan vs South Africa, Live Cricket Streaming: When and where to watch Super 12 tie?

Pakistan find themselves at a precarious position in the T20 World Cup 2022 edition. After three encounters in the Super 12, the Men in Green have won just one game and lost two thrilling contests (including one against Zimbabwe).

Opening their campaign versus India, the Babar Azam-led side lost on the final ball whereas they fell short versus Zimbabwe as well, once again losing on the last delivery of a low-scoring thriller. With two more games to go, Pakistan need a miracle to qualify ahead. Amid their T20 WC woes, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Gautam Gambhir has slammed Babar and called him a selfish captain.

"In my opinion, first, you think about your team instead of yourself; if nothing goes according to your plan, you should have sent Fakhar Zaman up the batting order. This is called selfishness; as a captain, it is easy to be selfish. It is easy for Babar and Rizwan to open the innings for Pakistan and create so many records. If you want to be a leader, you have to think about your team," said Gambhir in commentary during the Pakistan-Netherlands game, which the former won by six wickets in pursuit of a paltry 92 on October 30 (Sunday) in Perth.

Pakistan didn't pick Fakhar Zaman for their opening two games and when they included him for the Dutch encounter, he batted at No. 3 with a struggling Babar still retaining his opening slot, with Md Rizwan. In the recent past, both Rizwan and Babar have been slammed for their low strike rate and similar playing styles, which many believe are hurting Pakistan's progress with the bat.

After Pakistan lost to Zimbabwe by a run, Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar had raised concerns with regard to the opening pair and said on his Youtube channel, "I don't know why is it so hard for you guys to understand. I have said this before, and I am saying it again that with our top and middle-order, we can't achieve big success. We can't win consistently. Pakistan have a bad captain. Pakistan are out of the World Cup. Nawaz has bowled the last over in the three games we have lost."

This is called selfishness: Gautam Gambhir rips into Babar Azam amid Pakistan's T20 World Cup woes

Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant knock of 68 runs off 40 balls as he turned out to be India's saviour in their Super 12 clash against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (October 30). On a day when the Indian batter struggles against the quality Proteas pace attack, Suryakumar continued his red-hot form with the bat.

Opting to bat first, India got off to a woeful start as they lost wickets in quick succession at the top to be left reeing at 49/5 in no time. With half the side back to the dugout, Suryakumar combined with Dinesh Karthik to steady the ship for the Men in Blue as the duo added 52 runs for the sixth wicket.

However, 46 out of those 52 runs were scored by Suryakumar, who single-handedly helped India post a sighting total of 133 runs on the board. En route to his half-century, the star India batter became only the third player to score over 900 runs in T20Is in a calendar year to join Pakistan's Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in the elite list.

Rizwan tops the charts when it comes to most runs by a batter in T20Is in a calendar year as he scored 1326 runs in 29 matches last year, including 12 fifties. Babar had amassed 939 runs in 29 matches last year with the help of nine fifties. They are now joined by Suryakumar in the list of batters who have completed 900 runs in a calendar year in the shortest format.

Suryakumar has so far scored 935 runs in 26 matches this year at an average of over 42 and a stunning strike rate of 183.69, including eight half-centuries. Earlier this year, he had broken Virat Kohli's record for most runs by an Indian batter in a calendar year in T20Is.

Suryakumar didn't have an ideal start in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 as he had failed to get going in the opener against Pakistan. However, the star batter bounced back with a quickfire 25-ball 51 against Netherlands and followed it up with another half-century against the Proteas on Sunday.

The panel consisting of the legends of the game has been widely followed as they continue to analyse and criticise Pakistan's poor show in the tournament. However, Akram was left slightly miffed during the segment when viewers' questions were taken on the show on Saturday.

A fan put forth a random question asking the cricket experts why Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan was using a lip balm when not many players are doing so in the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia. Akram was left furious after the question which he felt was not related to cricket.

'I can't answer this crap': Wasim Akram loses cool after question over Md. Rizwan's lip balm in T20 World Cup

After losing to India on the last ball of their Super 12 opener, Pakistan went down to Zimbabwe as well during the T20 World Cup 2022 on Thursday (October 27) at the Perth Stadium, Perth. Opting to bat first, Craig Ervine-led Zimbabwe posted a modest 130-8, with Md Wasim Jr returning with 4 for 24, and had their back against the wall with Pakistan needing only 43 more off the last 39 balls, with seven wickets in hand.

However, Sikandar Raza (3 for 25) and Brad Evans (2 for 25) brought the African side back into the contest and led them to a famous one-run win on the last ball of the contest. Eventually, Pakistan managed only 129 for 8 despite needing only 3 off the last three deliveries. There was no shortage of drama in a pulsating clash which left the Babar Azam-led Pakistani dressing room in disbelief and shock. Here's how the Men in Green dugout reacted to their shocking loss:

Watch: Babar Azam-starrer Pakistan dressing room in sheer disbelief after Zimbabwe's epic T20 WC win

Zimbabwe stunned 2009 winners Pakistan as they defeated the Babar Azam-led Men in Green by one run in a thrilling low-scoring tie, at the Perth Stadium, Perth, in the Men's T20 World Cup Super 12 clash on Thursday (October 28).

Opting to bat first, Craig Ervine-led African side only managed 130 for 8 as Mohammad Wasim Jr returning with 4 for 24. In reply, Pakistan slipped from a winning position, being well-placed at 88 for 3, before being restricted to 129 for 8 in 20 overs. Sikandar Raza shined with the ball, returning with 3 for 25 along with Brad Evans also chipping in with 2 for 25.

After this loss, Babar-led Pakistan are at a precarious position. With twin defeats, having also lost to India in their Super 12 opener, the Asian giants are on the verge of an early exit. Here's how Pakistan can still make it to the semi-finals despite a shocking result versus Zimbabwe:

1) Firstly, Pakistan have to win all their remaining matches -- against the Netherlands, South Africa, and Bangladesh -- handsomely to remain alive.

2) Apart from their wins, Pakistan will hope for at least three other teams in Group B to lose as many as two games.

3) At this point, Pakistan's biggest nemesis is South Africa. The Temba Bavuma-led side could've had four points at present, instead of three, had their Zimbabwe game not ended without a result. So, if India beat South Africa on Sunday (October 30) and Pakistan also triumphs over them in their upcoming face-off, then Pakistan can proceed ahead with six points. SA will end up with five points if they beat the Netherlands.

4) Not only the Proteas, even Zimbabwe have a chance to go ahead. Hence, Pakistan will also have to hope that the lowly-ranked side loses two of their remaining three games, if not all, for them to qualify with six points.

5) At present, Bangladesh is in the hunt. They are yet to face Zimbabwe, India, and Pakistan. If the Bangla Tigers lose against India and Pakistan but go onto win against Zimbabwe, it will be advantage.

It is to be noted that even the Netherlands are not ruled out yet. They are yet to get off the mark in the main round, along with Pakistan, and face the Men in Green next. The loser of that clash will definitely bow out of the showpiece event.

EXPLAINED: How Pakistan can still enter T20 WC semi-finals after shocking result vs Zimbabwe

Pakistan will face Zimbabwe in their second Super 12 clash at the Men's T20 World Cup 2022 edition, on Thursday (October 27). After facing arch-rivals India in their tournament opener, Babar Azam & Co. will now lock horns with the African nation and not like to take them lightly, by any means, to get off the mark in the points table.

Pakistan are coming into this encounter on the back of a last-ball defeat at the hands of India, at the iconic MCG, Melbourne on October 23 (Sunday). Being asked to bat first, Babar-led side posted 159 for 8 and had India reeling at 31 for 4 before Virat Kohli's 82 not out propelled the Men in Blue to a thrilling four-wicket win, on the final ball of the contest.

Zimbabwe, on the other hand, locked horns with South Africa in their first game in the main draw of the competition. In a rain-marred contest, they were saved by the weather with Proteas on the verge of a win. Will they cause an upset versus the Men in Green at Perth?

T20 World Cup 2022, India vs Pakistan, Live Cricket Streaming: When and where to watch epic face-off?

After much hullabaloo, India and Pakistan squared off in the fourth game of the Super 12 clash at the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, on Sunday afternoon (October 23). Playing in front of a jam-packed Melbourne Cricket Stadium, Melbourne, the clash was a humdinger which saw Rohit Sharma-led India beat Pakistan by four wickets in a last-over thriller, courtesy of Virat Kohli's majestic 82 not out.

Opting to bowl first, India was off to a good start. The opening bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh got some movement and bounce and curtailed the run-flow. As a result, Pakistan captain Babar Azam shuffled off Arshdeep but was trapped lbw, after missing the ball completely, to be out for a golden duck. Rizwan also followed suit, surprised by a well-executed short ball from Arshdeep (3 for 32).

Shan Masood steadied the ship after the fall of the Pakistani openers. Iftikhar Ahmed, on the other hand, took on Axar Patel and went bonkers with some lusty blows. With Iftikhar adding some vital runs, Rohit brought Md Shami back into the attack and he dismissed him for a 34-ball 51. From thereon, some vital blows from Shaheen Afridi (8-ball 16) and Masood's cautious 42-ball 52 not out took Pakistan to a competitive 159 for 8 in 20 overs. Apart from Arshdeep, Hardik also impressed and returned with 3 for 30.

In reply, Indian openers were tentative and dismissed for cheap inside the powerplay overs. KL Rahul chopped it onto the stumps, off Naseem shah, whereas Haris Rauf removed Rohit for 4. In-form batter Suryakumar Yadav showed a lot of promise and took the scoreboard forward with some confident strokes before falling for 15, off Rauf. After being promoted to No. 5, Axar Patel was involved in a mix-up with Kohli and luck favoured the Men in Green as he was run out for 2.

From thereon, Hardik (40 off 37) joined Kohli as the duo stitched an impressive 113-run fifth-wicket stand. While Hardik slowed down as the partnership progressed, however, Kohli -- who has an impeccable record versus Pakistan in T20 WC history -- took on the likes of Shadab Khan, Shaheen, and Md Nawaz to keep India in the hunt.

With 48 needed off 18, Kohli's timely hits brought the equation down to 16 off 6 balls. There was a lot of drama with a wicket, waist-high delivery (which went for a six), a no-ball, a free-hit, etc. bringing down the equation to two off an equal number of balls.

Dinesh Karthik faced the penultimate ball but was stumped out. Eventually, R Ashwin came out to face the last ball. Nawaz bowled a wide before Ashwin struck a boundary to take India home in what was a riveting clash. In an epic thriller, India beat Pakistan by four wickets to open its account in the ongoing T20 WC with a memorable victory.

Kohli's 82 not out, off 53 balls, was laced with 6 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 154.72. He returned with the Player-of-the-Match award.

T20 WC 2022: Virat Kohli's stunning knock helps India beat Pakistan in dramatic last-ball thriller

Former Pakistan captain and head coach Misbah-ul-Haq has slammed Pakistan cricket team for their abysmal fitness standards, right before their T20 World Cup campaign in Australia. Misbah, who vacated the head coach position in 2021, has claimed that there haven't been any fitness tests and there is not even any benchmark to follow. Further, he said that the fitness becomes a joke during the domestic season.

"Clear cut, fitness issues are visible, Waqar left four times [as coach], I left once. Players like myself, Shoaib Malik, and Younis Khan were quite into fitness, and we used to push ourselves. Those who push others out of their limitations are not considered good trainers nor good coaches. Their tummies are visible; their lower are heavy and they can't move. The reason behind this is there has not been a single fitness test, there is no benchmark," Misbah was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

"Fitness test level during domestic season becomes a joke. We used to have arguments that we used to say that the standard used for the international level must be used for the domestic level as well. The responsible people at the domestic level always opposed us related to fitness, "added the former Men in Green captain, who was easily one of the fittest cricketers during his active days at the international level.

In the current Pakistan line-up, the likes of Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, Md Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi are considered fit but the likes of Asif Ali, Shan Masood, etc. are the fittest of the lot. They are placed in Pool B with India, Bangladesh and South Africa whereas two more teams will join from the qualifiers.

'Their tummies are visible, lower are heavy': Misbah-ul-Haq unimpressed with Pakistan's fitness standards

India and Pakistan are set to lock horns with each other in the main draw of the T20 World Cup, which commences on October 22. The Asian giants will square off on October 23 (Sunday) at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Melbourne. The clash is expected to go down to the wire especially after both sides produced two thrilling contests in the Asia Cup 2022 edition.

In the 2021 T20 World Cup, India and Pakistan were placed in the same group as well (i.e. Pool B). Both sides played each other in their respective opening games in the Super 12 round, where Babar Azam-led Men in Green produced a clinical performance to thrash India by ten wickets. Opting to bowl first, Pakistan rode on Shaheen Afridi's 3 for 31 and Haris Rauf's two-fer to restrict Virat Kohli-led India to 151 for 7 in 20 overs. In reply, Pakistan openers Mohammed Rizwan (79 not out) and skipper Babar (68 not out) stitched a memorable 152-run first-wicket stand as the one-time winners chased down the total with ten wickets and 13 balls to spare, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

After the match, skipper Virat was left baffled by a question from a reporter, who suggested him to have played Ishan Kishan for Rohit Sharma. Ishan had a good run in the warm-up encounter, versus England (scoring a 46-ball 70), but there was no question on Rohit's spot whatsoever. Hence, Kohli was left speechless for a while before he reacted calmly.

Question: Regarding the selection of the team, many people were talking. Ishan Kishan played pretty well in the warm-up match. Do you think that it's a mistake if Ishan Kishan, could play and he could do better than Rohit Sharma?

Virat Kohli: That's a very brave question. What do you think, sir? I played the team that I thought was the best. What is your opinion? Will you drop Rohit Sharma from T20 international? Will you drop Rohit Sharma? Do you know what he did in the last game we played? Unbelievable (laughs). Sir, if you want controversy, please tell me before so I can answer accordingly," he added.

Rohit was dismissed by Shaheen for a golden duck in the India-Pakistan encounter in the 2021 T20 WC. India went onto lose to New Zealand in their next game, where Ishan was roped in and played as an opener with Rohit at No. 3, before winning their last three encounters. Eventually, India bowed out of the showpiece event in the Super 12 round.

This time around, Rohit-led India will enter the T20 WC 2022 edition as the No. 1 ranked side and are expected to reach the semi-finals.

The stage is set for the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup 2022 edition clash, which will take place on October 23 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Melbourne. The main draw of the tournament starts on October 22 whereas the qualifiers will get underway on October 16.

Hence, India and Pakistan will square off on the second day of the main draw and the clash is expected to go down to the wire. After that, they met twice in the Asia Cup 2022 edition, with both teams getting a win each.

Prior to the T20 WC face-off, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra made a bold claim. He believes only one between India and Pakistan will make it to the semi-finals, along with South Africa from Pool B.

"Two teams out of India, Pakistan, and South Africa will go ahead. They (Pakistan) should reach the semi-finals, but it will not be easy. I am saying only one out of India and Pakistan will make it. Whoever wins the India-Pakistan match will make it. I feel South Africa will make it," Chopra said on his Youtube channel.

David Warner to Virat Kohli: Top contenders to finish as highest run-getter at T20 World Cup 2022

Babar Azam-led Pakistan hosted England in a seven-match T20I series, which concluded on Sunday evening (October 02) in Lahore. In a series that saw the momentum swinging from one side to the other, Jos Buttler-less England emerged on top to win 4-3 after winning the final encounter by 67 runs. Being asked to bat first, Moeen Ali-led England rode on Dawid Malan's 47-ball 78 to post a daunting 209 for 3. In reply, Pakistan's run-chase never got going as they only managed 142 for 8 in their full quota of overs to lose by a convincing margin.

As Babar Azam and Md Rizwan -- the No. 1 batter in the format -- fell soon, Pakistan's chances diminished in a flash. Shan Masood's 43-ball 56 was the only shining aspect for the Men in Green, however, they never pushed England on the back foot in the second half of the encounter, at the Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore. After the clash, former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal lashed out at Pakistan.

Without mincing his words, Ajmal said on his Youtube channel, "They completely outclassed us. Bilkul bachho ki team lag rahi thi Pakistan, itne bechaare lag rahe the. Itna maara hai inn logon ne. Jis tarah ke momentum se vo khelte hain, uss tarah se hamein bhi khelna chahiye. Aap logon ke andar itna khauf hai ki 'hamein select kiya jaayega ya nahi' (Pakistan played like kids. England dominated and hit them to all parts of the ground. We need to play with the same intensity, but most of our players do not play fearlessly in order to not lose their spot in the XI)."

“Fear se aap khelenge toh aap fail honge. Fearless cricket khelenge toh kaamyaab honge. Ek match me achha kheloge aur 10 match bure khel jaate ho, pata nahi kaisi training kar rahe ho. Iss se achha toh vo unfit, mote-mote players khila lo, Sharjeel Khan ko khila lo, Azam Khan ko khila lo (If you play with fear, you will fail. You need to play fearless cricket. These guys play well in one match and then fall flat in the next 10 games. It's better if you play unfit, fat players instead. Sharjeel Khan, Azam Khan can be given a look-in instead)," he added.

At the post-match presentation after the Lahore T20I, skipper Babar said, "It was definitely difficult. With 200 runs on the board, if we lose early wickets, it puts pressure on the other batters. This series was vital for us. We need to improve in the shortest format. I also mentioned at the toss, that we have a good bowling attack. Haris is bowling well, and he is improving everyday. I think entire Pakistan was waiting for this, even we were happy to host England."

We need to play with the same intensity, but most of our players do not play fearlessly in order to not lose their spot in the XI)." “Fear se aap khelenge toh aap fail honge. With 200 runs on the board, if we lose early wickets, it puts pressure on the other batters. This series was vital for us. We need to improve in the shortest format. I also mentioned at the toss, that we have a good bowling attack. Haris is bowling well, and he is improving everyday. Better to play unfit, fat players: Ex-Pakistan spinner slams Babar & Co. after T20I series loss to England

Pakistan and England were involved in a thrilling seven-match T20I series, in Pakistan, which ended on Sunday evening (October 02). Being asked to bat first in Lahore, Moeen Ali-led English side posted a daunting 209 for 3 in 20 overs riding on Dawid Malan's 47-ball 78 and useful knocks from others.

In reply, Babar Azam-led Men in Green were expected to chase down the score at the jam-packed Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore. Babar and Md Rizwan -- the No. 1 T20I batter -- have been Pakistan's most consistent batters in recent times but the opening pair couldn't do much and got dismissed for 4 and 1, respectively. Shan Masood's 56 was the only shining aspect for Pakistan in their run-chase as they were restricted for 148 for 8 to lose by 67 runs.

Thus, the series was finally won by England 4-3 after trailing 2-3 after the first five encounters. After the series, Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar has expressed concerns over Babar & Co.'s middle order and is 'scared' of the team's chances in the forthcoming T20 World Cup, where he fears the one-time winners might bow out in the first round (Super 12).

"Pakistan middle-order is not good. If the openers don't perform, the middle-order collapses. This is not the way you go into the World Cup and win the World Cup. It will not work this way. Even in terms of the World Cup, I hope Pakistan don't crash out in the first round. I'm scared with this team. That is why I criticized Saqlain and others to get your middle-order, batting order in order. Somehow they're not listening," Akhtar said on his Youtube channel.

"But hopefully, Pakistan make a good comeback in the World Cup and in New Zealand tri-series. I like to see Pakistan doing well and it is disheartening to see them lose. But Pakistan is in a dire situation and from here things aren't going to be easy for them. Hopefully they will learn a thing or two from my videos and improve their middle order. Babar cannot perform in every game," the ex-pacer further asserted.

Pakistan's middle-order woes were exposed even in the Asia Cup 2022 edition, where they lost the final to Sri Lanka by 23 runs in pursuit of 170. They are heavily dependent on Babar-Rizwan whereas the other middle-order batters haven't impressed much in the opportunities provided to them in crunch situations.
