Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal bagged his maiden hat-trick in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday during his side's clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Chahal bowled a game-changing 17th over picking up as many as four wickets in it to turn the game in RR's favour.

KKR required only 40 runs from the final four overs with six wickets in hand and skipper Shreyas Iyer out in the middle with all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer when Chahal came to bowl the 17th over for RR during KKR's 218-run chase. He started the over with the wicket of Venkatesh, who was stumped by Sanju Samson after missing his shot completely.

Sheldon Jackson then arrived on the crease and started off with a dot ball before giving Iyer the strike with a single. The KKR skipper was looking in fabulous touch batting on 88 with the help of seven fours and four sixes. However, he was trapped plumb in front of the wicket and was dismissed lbw by Chahal on the 4th delivery of the over.

The in-form leg spinner then went on to complete his maiden IPL hat-trick by removing tail-ender Shivam Mavi and Pat Cummins on successive deliveries. He picked up four wickets in the 17th over which was his last in the game to finish with excellent figures of 5/40 in his four overs. Chahal also bagged his maiden five-wicket haul in the IPL.

KKR were going strong in the run chase and were in touching distance of the winning mark when Chahal produced an exceptional 17th over to peg them back and spark a turnaround for his side. With the five-wicket haul, Chahal, who is the leading wicket-taker of the season so far extended his tally to 17 wickets from just six matches in IPL 2022.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) got off to a perfect start with the ball after posting a huge total of 217 runs on the board in their clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 &nbsp;on Monday. KKR opener Sunil Narine was sent packing on the very first ball of the first over after getting run out.

Aaron Finch opened the batting with Narine for KKR as they began their pursuit of the 218-run target. While KKR were hoping to get off to a flying start, they were dealt a blow on the very first ball after Shimron Hetmyer ran out Narine with a sharp throw. Facing the first ball from Boult, Finch played towards cover and ran for a single.

However, it was an abysmal call from the Australian batter as the ball went straight towards Hetmyer, who picked it up and hit the bullseye with a perfect throw. It was a direct hit from Hetmyer as Narine was caught short at the non-striker's end after trying to get back from halfway mark.

Team India star Shreyas Iyer has been enjoying a great start to his stint as the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Iyer, who led Delhi Capitals to their first-ever final in IPL 2020, was released by the franchise ahead of the mega auction this year.

Under their new skipper, KKR kicked off their IPL 2022 campaign with a win against defending champions Chennai Super Kings in their season-opener before slipping to a defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their next game. “I have had the pleasure of playing with Shreyas for quite a few years now starting with Delhi. His captaincy style is extremely cool, calm and collected. He also has a lot of experience considering his age. So, he has done a fantastic job and I am sure he will continue to grow,” he said.&nbsp;

“As a team, we have all bases covered. There is no reason why we cannot win the IPL this year.”&nbsp;

Billings started the season as a specialist middle order batsman for KKR with Sheldon Jackson keeping wickets. But the change in team composition meant that KKR went with an extra fast bowling option and that meant that Billings had to take over the wicket-keeping role for the team.&nbsp;

“I have kind of gotten used to both keeping wickets and being an outfield player. I have had to field a lot for England. I like fielding on the ground but I also like to keep wickets specially against mystery spinners like Varun and Narine,” Billings explained when asked about his preferred role.&nbsp;

“It is very hard to keep against them. But it takes a bit of practice and concentration but I think that makes it even more enjoyable as you are feeling the game every single ball,” he further explained.&nbsp;

Billings has been contributing regularly with his bat for KKR and he is currently the second top scorer in the competition for his team. The England cricketer has been stitching together valuable partnerships in the middle overs and he was on the other end of the crease as West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell slammed 70 off just 31 deliveries to guide KKR to victory over Punjab Kings.&nbsp;

He stressed on 'hunger' and 'desperation' and said, "We seriously cannot be blaming individuals here. It’s all of us. We win together, we lose together. That is as simple as that for me. I think slight desperation is required from each one of us. That desperation is very, very, very important when we play, especially in this tournament. Because oppositions are different, they come up with different plans all the time. We just need to stay ahead of them. We just need to stay on top of them. And the only way we can do that is by having that slight hunger and that desperation on the field - with the bat, with the ball."

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has lauded Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer for his terrific leadership skills in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Iyer was roped in by KKR for a sum of Rs 12.25 crore (INR 122.5 million) at the IPL 2022 mega auction in February this year after being released by his former side Delhi Capitals (DC).

Iyer has had a fantastic start to his stint as the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders as he has already led his side to two wins in their first three games of the season. Iyer-led KKR defeated Chennai Super Kings in their opening game of the season before slipping to a defeat against RCB in their next game.

However, KKR bounced&nbsp;back to winnings ways&nbsp;with a comprehensive victory against Punjab Kings in their last outing. Speaking about Iyer's captaincy so far in IPL 2022, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar lauded the Team India star and said he is making a strong case for the captaincy of the Indian team in the future.

"Iyer is not putting pressure on the IPL with his captaincy, he is making a serious case for Team India's captaincy as well. He wants to cement his place in the Indian team and lead it as well. He is proving his worth," Akhtar was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

Though Iyer is yet to be part of the Indian team's leadership group, his leadership qualities have ensured he is touted as one of the future captains of the Indian side. Akhtar wants Iyer to continue leading KKR by example and scoring runs with his bat this season.
