The war in West Asia that was started on Feb 28 after the US and Israel attacked Iran pre-emptively has eliminated several high-ranking officers from the Iranian regime, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Security chief Ali Larijani. As the war almost completes a month, US President Donald Trump has blinked and hinted at a peace deal with the Islamic Republic. While Iran has rejected any sort of negotiations with the Americans, citing past betrayal, the US president claimed that his administration is speaking to a “top person” who isn't the Supreme Leader. Reports claimed that it could be Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf. Interestingly, Trump has even hinted that Iranian parliamentary speaker Ghalibaf can lead the Islamic Republic in the future. On March 25, 2026, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon was questioned by a reporter about Israel's secretive nuclear program and why it was justified for Israel to have a secretive nuclear program and why any other country in the Middle East does not have the same right.“Sir, everyone knows that Israel is a nuclear power. Former nuclear technician Mordechai Vanunu fled Israel to London, and he gave that important interview with the Times of London, and he was kidnapped back to Israel and was arrested for 18 years,” said the reporter. He then asked, “Why does Israel have the right to acquire nuclear weapons, but no other Middle Eastern country has that same right?”Also Read: Palestinian media alleges 1-year-old boy 'tortured by Israeli forces' in Gaza to 'extract confession' from father

Danon responded that Israel is a stabilising force, it signs treaties, while Iran is an aggressor. “Israel is a stabilising force in the region. We want peace. Allow me to answer that. We sign peace treaties, we promote peace, we pray for peace. When you look at the Iranian regime, they are doing exactly the opposite,” said Dannon. He continued that Iran attacked 13 countries within a month, and Israel, in its entire 77 years of existence, did not attack 13 countries. The reporter again asked if he would be responding to the question of nuclear capability. “Can you answer my question about nuclear capabilities?” Dannon responded, “I did. Thank you.” Israel has never admitted to having nuclear power. It maintains a doctrine of nuclear-ambiguity, -or nuclear-opacity but ever since the revelations by whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu, it is widely believed that Israel does possess at least 90 nuclear warheads according to SIPRI and The Federation of American Scientists. Israel has never signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty or the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), while Iran has signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1968, the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty in 1996, the Partial Test Ban Treaty in 1963, and signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in 2015 until Trump walked out of the deal in 2018.

At the UN, Danny Danon sidesteps a reporter’s question on Israel’s nuclear weapons, reigniting debate over nuclear double standards in the Middle East.

Former nuclear technician Mordechai Vanunu fled Israel to London, and he gave that important interview with the Times of London, and he was kidnapped back to Israel and was arrested for 18 years,” said the reporter. He then asked, “Why does Israel have the right to acquire nuclear weapons, but no other Middle Eastern country has that same right?” Also Read: Palestinian media alleges 1-year-old boy 'tortured by Israeli forces' in Gaza to 'extract confession' from father

Donald Trump said Iran informally offered them the post of Supreme Leader, which he turned down by saying, "No, thank you." Speaking at the annual National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) fundraising dinner on Wednesday (March 25), Trump reportedly said, "There’s never been a head of a country that wanted that job less than being the head of Iran. We hear them very clearly. They say, ‘I don’t want it. We’d like to make you the next supreme leader.’ No, thank you. I don’t want it." His latest claim comes after Iran clearly stated that no one from Iran is talking to anyone in the United States. Trump has repeatedly asserted in the past few days that backchannel talks have been going on between the regime and the US, and that Iran wanted to "make a deal." But Iran has categorically rubbished his claims.
Iran mocks Trump, says US is “talking to itself”
Iran mocked Trump by saying that America is apparently talking to itself. “Has the level of your inner struggle reached the stage of you negotiating with yourself?” Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for the unified command of Iran’s armed forces, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said on Wednesday, according to Iran’s semiofficial Fars news agency. Trump also presented a 15-point peace plan, which Iran has rejected. White House has threatened the regime with dire consequences if it does not accept a deal to end the war. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, "If Iran fails to accept the reality of the current moment, if they fail to understand that they have been defeated militarily and will continue to be, President Trump will ensure they are hit harder than they have ever been hit before."

Donald Trump made yet another quip about how Iran has been negotiating with the US, and even offered him the job of the Ayatollah, or the Supreme Leader, of Iran. Trump made the statement while speaking at a fundraising dinner on Wednesday.

A murder of crows was seen over Tel Aviv on Tuesday, with netizens quickly linking it to prophecies of doomsday. Thousands of these birds took over the city's skyline, hovering and circling over buildings. Videos showing the crows went viral as people watched the scene aghast, wondering if it could mean something amid the ongoing Iran war and the Middle East crisis. Others wrote that the eerie scene was a sign of impending disaster. The scene was not ordinary as the crows appeared to form black clouds. Residents watched the birds as the sheer number left them stunned.
Social media users insist the crows as bad omen amid Iran war
Despite a logical reasoning behind the occurrence, people think it is still an ominous sign, especially because of the current geopolitical situation in the Middle East. "It's still taken seriously back home in England, and the Romans would stop entire wars over this sign," one user wrote. Notably, according to ancient texts, the Romans watched the flight patterns and calls of birds and interpreted them as messages from the gods that could decide the fate of a war.The Iran crisis is escalating after the regime rejected Donald Trump's peace plan. The US president has ordered the deployment of more than 1,000 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East, who will join the Marines who are on their way aboard the USS Tripoli.

The Tel Aviv skyline was filled with thousands of crows on Tuesday. Videos showed the birds covering the sky, bunching up to form black structures. People think they are a sign of doom, while experts have a perfectly reasonable scientific explanation.

The White House sparked a buzz on social media after posting two short cryptic videos on Wednesday night (Mar 25). The purpose or meaning behind the clips, which were posted on Instagram and X, was not clear as social media users tried to make sense of it. One video was later deleted from both handles. This comes amid the war with Iran, further fueling speculations about whether it had anything to do with the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The first video, which was deleted, was posted around 9:15 p.m. EST. It appeared that it was recorded using a smartphone with the camera pointing downwards. In the four-second-long clip, a woman’s feet can be seen, and a voice is heard saying, “It’s launching soon, right?” The video also had a caption reading: “sound on”. The video was deleted from both the Instagram and X accounts of the White House about 90 minutes after it was posted. Some social media users also claimed that the voice in the first video sounded like that of White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

In its first response to Iran’s claims, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) on Thursday (Mar 26) dismissed as false reports that an American F/A-18 fighter jet was struck over Chabahar using advanced air defence systems. The command clarified that no US fighter aircraft had been shot down by Iran, countering what it described as misinformation. This comes amid a pattern of similar claims by Iranian forces, which CENTCOM has repeatedly denied, while also insisting that US military assets remain fully operational and accounted for. The Islamic Republic's state-linked Press TV also shared footage that appears to capture a fighter jet in flight before a sudden flash occurs close to the aircraft, indicating it may have been struck mid-air. Puncturing the hype about Pakistan playing the role of ‘mediator’ and the impression of elevation in its standing by facilitating talks between the US and Iran to end the ongoing war in the Middle East, senior journalist and former Minister of State, Ministry of External Affairs, MJ Akbar, said on Wednesday that Pakistan is not a mediator, it is only a postman, a courier and a subservient ally of America. Replying to a question on whether Pakistan’s reported role as a mediator between the US and Iran is a setback of any kind to India, Akbar told ANI in an interview, “I think it’s extremely important to remember that Pakistan is not a mediator. Pakistan is only a postman. Pakistan is only a courier. The real negotiation is being done between emissaries of Donald Trump and the Iranians. Everybody else is a cutout. In terms of using Pakistan, the Americans are comfortable with Pakistan because Pakistan has always been a loyal American voice...”
‘America considers Pakistan a subservient ally. We are equals of America’
Reflecting on the relations between the US and Pakistan, Akbar said, “There is no love-hate relationship when it comes to the Pentagon and the Pakistani army. The deal was signed in 1954. The deal was made three years before that, when Pakistan agreed to allow America unilateral use of Pakistan territory as a base. That base is still being used by America. So, America considers Pakistan a subservient ally. We are equals of America. That is the difference. We are a proud nation with strategic autonomy, with our own viewpoint, with our own policy. We are friends of America, but that doesn’t mean we agree with America on every issue, nor does it mean that we are stenographers who will take dictation from any superpower.”
‘Pakistan haven’t won any war, and they started every war’
On whether playing the role of mediator will elevate Pakistan’s standing, Akbar said Pakistan has always been accepted as a base for American operations. “Pakistan has its value for America, it is a formidable nuclear power. It is a power in the region. But Pakistan’s ability to win wars, its track record, is perhaps the worst in the world. They have not won any war, and they have started every war. They started a war within six weeks of becoming independent. They cannot even win a war against Afghanistan. Pakistan is the only country which has gone to war against every neighbour. It has attacked Iran also,” he said.
‘American VP needs a hotel to sleep in while negotiations are on’
Responding to a query on whether Iran will trust Pakistan, Akbar said Pakistan’s locus standi with Tehran is very, very low. “It is really America which is pushing Pakistan and because I think the American vice president needs a hotel to sleep in somewhere while the negotiations are going on. The difference in Iran’s view of Pakistan and India can be summed up and it’s not that complicated. When India disagrees with Iran, Iran believes that India is doing so because there is a difference in perceptions or difference in policy which emerges out of India’s national interest. India naturally will keep its national interest first and the Iranians understand that just as they will keep their national interests first. But when Pakistan disagrees with them, they believe it is because the Americans have ordered them to disobey.”“So Pakistan is not a nation which has the credibility of an independent foreign policy,” he said.
‘The days of believing that Iranians cannot deliver are over’
Assessing the war so far, Akbar said the days of believing that the Iranians cannot deliver are over. “To understand how this war has gone on for 3 weeks you have to remember one very famous saying of Napoleon that the ratio between high morale and military prowess is 3:1. Morale is three times more valuable than military and physical prowess.”“Once you have decided that you are not going to accept defeat, it is very hard to be defeated.” If you look at what has been achieved from the American standpoint, number one, oil sanctions against Iran have been lifted. What was essential to American policy for years has been reversed. An Indian company has bought five 5 million tonnes of Iranian oil which was unheard of. The biggest gainer so far, Vladimir Putin, who is selling less oil for more money because the price of oil has gone up from $60-65 to $110-115 per barrel.
‘Iran hitting Dimona was turning point of this war’
The turning point of this war was the total shock which Iran achieved by hitting Dimona. Dimona is Israel’s nuclear jewel. That is where its nuclear plant is. And by destroying the security, the most secure iron dome perhaps in the world was the dome that Israel put over Dimona, much more than perhaps Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, to being able to pierce that dome by Iranian missiles sent a shock wave. It changed the nature of the war. From that moment, suddenly the American reaction and tone began to shift. The Iranians have also hit American bases over and over again. President Trump made some unfortunate use of words when he said that bombing is fun. But now you realize that bombing is not a one-way street. Today the people of Tel Aviv, the people of Jerusalem have also for the first time begun to understand what bombing is all about.
‘Trust in America’s ability to protect allies shattered’
You have lost your allies in Europe. It’s very difficult for NATO to get back its credibility. The whole of the American security system in the Gulf is in shambles. Because trust in America’s ability to protect Saudi Arabia or UAE or Qatar which is the basis of the whole security umbrella out there that trust has been shattered. Then the credibility of American weapons; THAAD missile supposed to be by far the best. The Americans had to bring a THAAD missile from Korea because THAAD missiles were destroyed. The THAAD could not protect Dimona. Israel has launched an inquiry into this. By the way, the biggest arms purchasers of the world were the Gulf countries.Do you think that they will continue to buy American arms? Are they going to start looking at in the next five years Chinese arms, Russian arms? The stated objective of the war on first day one was regime change. President Trump made some unfortunate use of words when he said that bombing is fun. But now you realize that bombing is not a one-way street. Today the people of Tel Aviv, the people of Jerusalem have also for the first time begun to understand what bombing is all about.

In terms of using Pakistan, the Americans are comfortable with Pakistan because Pakistan has always been a loyal American voice...” ‘America considers Pakistan a subservient ally. We are equals of America’ Reflecting on the relations between the US and Pakistan, Akbar said, “There is no love-hate relationship when it comes to the Pentagon and the Pakistani army. We are friends of America, but that doesn’t mean we agree with America on every issue, nor does it mean that we are stenographers who will take dictation from any superpower.” ‘Pakistan haven’t won any war, and they started every war’ On whether playing the role of mediator will elevate Pakistan’s standing, Akbar said Pakistan has always been accepted as a base for American operations. ‘American VP needs a hotel to sleep in while negotiations are on’ Responding to a query on whether Iran will trust Pakistan, Akbar said Pakistan’s locus standi with Tehran is very, very low. But when Pakistan disagrees with them, they believe it is because the Americans have ordered them to disobey.” “So Pakistan is not a nation which has the credibility of an independent foreign policy,” he said. ‘The days of believing that Iranians cannot deliver are over’ Assessing the war so far, Akbar said the days of believing that the Iranians cannot deliver are over. “To understand how this war has gone on for 3 weeks you have to remember one very famous saying of Napoleon that the ratio between high morale and military prowess is 3:1. Morale is three times more valuable than military and physical prowess.” “Once you have decided that you are not going to accept defeat, it is very hard to be defeated.” If you look at what has been achieved from the American standpoint, number one, oil sanctions against Iran have been lifted. ‘Iran hitting Dimona was turning point of this war’ The turning point of this war was the total shock which Iran achieved by hitting Dimona. ‘Trust in America’s ability to protect allies shattered’ You have lost your allies in Europe. By the way, the biggest arms purchasers of the world were the Gulf countries. Do you think that they will continue to buy American arms? Are they going to start looking at in the next five years Chinese arms, Russian arms? The stated objective of the war on first day one was regime change. All that you have achieved is to change Khamenei to Khamenei. There is no regime change. There’s not even regime adjustment. It is not an individual-led system. It is a regime with some depth and it has a hierarchy. And finally, if you wanted to start a war in order to ensure free passage through the Hormuz straits, which is now the latest item on the agenda, well, there was free passage of the Hormuz strait before the war began. Donald Trump announced on Wednesday (March 25) that he will travel to Beijing in May to meet Xi Jinping, following the postponement of an earlier planned summit due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran. The visit, now scheduled for May 14–15, had initially been planned for late March. Trump described the upcoming meeting as a major and historic occasion, adding that he also intends to host Xi and his wife in Washington, DC later this year. "My meeting with the Highly Respected President of China, President Xi Jinping, which was originally postponed due to our Military operation in Iran, has been rescheduled, and will take place in Beijing on May 14th and 15th," Trump said on his Truth Social network. Officials from both the White House and China are currently completing arrangements for the meetings in both countries. "I look very much forward to spending time with President Xi in what will be, I am sure, a Monumental Event," Trump added. Also Read: Danish PM Frederiksen resigns after failing to secure majority, may become PM again The White House confirmed the revised dates shortly before Trump’s statement. This could strengthen China’s position in pushing for reduced tariffs and resisting US demands on issues such as critical mineral access.

‘Will not allow Trump to dictate timeline’: Iran rejects US ceasefire plan, presents counterproposal

Donald Trump’s approval ratings have dropped to a historic low of around 36%, according to recent polling, as the ongoing US-Iran war and rising fuel prices weigh on public sentiment. Surveys suggest growing concern among Americans about the economic impact of the conflict and uncertainty over Washington’s strategy in West Asia.

Trump’s Approval Ratings Dip to Historic Low Amid War in Iran

As the war between the United States, Israel, and Iran enters its fourth week, one country has quietly stepped into the spotlight—Pakistan. It has offered to host peace talks between Washington and Tehran, a move that has surprised many and raised hopes for some kind of breakthrough. With both sides weary from weeks of strikes, missiles, and rising global tension, Islamabad’s sudden offer has made the world stop and listen. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif posted on X (formerly Twitter) on March 24, saying Pakistan was “ready and honored” to host “serious and final talks” for a full peace deal to end the war. Within minutes, US President Donald Trump reshared the post, calling it a “positive step.” Just a day earlier, Trump had announced a temporary five-day halt in American attacks on Iran’s energy sites. He also hinted that top officials from both sides had already exchanged messages through friendly countries. According to regional sources, Turkey, Egypt, and Pakistan have all been acting as informal middlemen, quietly passing messages between Iran and the US. But so far, only Pakistan seems to have the trust of both sides.
Why Pakistan wants to mediate
Pakistan’s decision to jump into one of the world’s most dangerous conflicts isn’t just random. It is driven by both practical needs and smart diplomacy. First, Pakistan understands that if this war continues, the entire region — including its own economy — will suffer. The Strait of Hormuz, which handles almost 20% of the world’s oil, is near total collapse due to attacks. If that continues, oil prices will shoot up worldwide, and Pakistan, already struggling with high inflation and energy costs, will pay the price. Second, Pakistan has a large Shia Muslim population, nearly 15% of its people, and any turmoil in Iran directly affects its social and political stability. Violence in Iran often creates emotional reactions inside Pakistan, including protests and pressure on its government to respond. Third, Pakistan also has a strategic defence deal with Saudi Arabia, signed in 2025. Much like NATO’s principle of “an attack on one is an attack on all,” this agreement links Pakistan’s security to Saudi Arabia’s stability. But it also puts Islamabad in a tight spot — it cannot appear neutral for too long, or it risks angering Riyadh, yet taking sides could ruin its relations with Iran. Hence, offering to mediate is Pakistan’s smartest possible move.
Security tensions at home
At the same time, Pakistan faces major issues on its border with Afghanistan. Just before the Iran war began, Pakistan had launched airstrikes inside Afghan territory against terrorist groups. Now, with the world’s attention fixed on Iran, Pakistan has more freedom to deal with these threats quietly, without attracting much outside criticism. However, if Iran becomes unstable, the problems could easily spread. The Pakistan-Iran border stretches over 900 kilometres and is poorly monitored. Terror groups could slip across easily, using the conflict as cover. That would hurt Pakistan’s economy, especially in Balochistan, where major trade and energy projects are based. It could also scare investors away and threaten plans to connect Pakistan to Central Asian markets.
The road to talks
Reports in Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper and Turkey’s Anadolu Agency confirm that American officials may soon arrive in Islamabad for preparatory discussions. Iran has officially denied holding talks, but the tone of its denial suggested that some quiet exchanges are already happening. Analysts believe Pakistan’s advantage lies in its working relations with both camps. Islamabad has deep ties with the United States through trade, the military, and diplomacy. With Iran, Pakistan shares a long border and ongoing regional agreements. And even though Pakistan does not recognise Israel, it quietly communicates through friendly Arab nations like Saudi Arabia and Qatar. As Zeeshan Shah, a geopolitical analyst based in Washington, told Al-Monitor, Pakistan’s growing role as a mediator is “not surprising.” He explained that Islamabad is one of the few countries near Iran that has not been attacked by Tehran in this war. Its balanced ties with Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the US give it rare credibility as a go-between. Some analysts also note another layer — a new kind of financial diplomacy. Zach Witkoff, a business figure close to the Trump family, reportedly visited Islamabad in January to discuss using digital currency systems for international payments. This suggests that apart from politics, economic interests are now shaping how Pakistan engages the world during this crisis.
Tehran’s tentative response
For now, Iran insists that it is not holding any formal talks with the US. But the country’s statements are carefully worded. Tehran says it has received messages from “friendly mediators” but will stick to its conditions — mainly that the US and Israel must stop attacks, pay compensation for the damage, and respect Iran’s security. However, many within Iran’s power circles — especially the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) — strongly oppose any negotiations. According to experts quoted in Al-Monitor, the IRGC fears that such talks could weaken its influence and create internal divisions within Iran’s power structure.
Can Pakistan really pull this off?
Realistically, Pakistan’s offer faces several challenges. The US is still sending more Marines and naval forces to the Gulf, and Iran continues missile attacks on Israeli and allied targets. The battlefield is still hot, making peace talks fragile at best. Still, diplomatic voices in Washington and Dubai describe Pakistan’s role as “a small but genuine hope.” Even a short-term truce could slow missile exchanges, reopen shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, and stabilise global oil prices. That alone would bring relief to millions across Asia, including India and Pakistan, where petrol and gas costs are climbing sharply. But as Theodore Karasik, a Middle East expert also quoted in Al-Monitor, pointed out, diplomacy will only work if both sides truly want it. If the talks turn into political theater—more about headlines than healing—then the war will likely resume in full force. For now, Islamabad has achieved what few expected: it has placed itself at the centre of world diplomacy, even if only for a moment. As the bombs fall and oil prices rise, the world watches to see whether this unexpected mediator from South Asia can turn a flicker of hope into something real — or whether Pakistan’s peace promise will disappear like smoke over the burning Strait of Hormuz. (Disclaimer: The views of the writer do not represent the views of WION or ZMCL. Security tensions at home At the same time, Pakistan faces major issues on its border with Afghanistan. The road to talks Reports in Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper and Turkey’s Anadolu Agency confirm that American officials may soon arrive in Islamabad for preparatory discussions. Tehran’s tentative response For now, Iran insists that it is not holding any formal talks with the US. The demands also include the closure of all US military bases across West Asia and financial compensation proportional to the damage Iran sustained during the conflict. In return, Iran is said to have expressed readiness to halt its ballistic missile development for five years, reduce uranium enrichment, and participate in discussions on adjusting its stockpile of 60 per cent highly enriched uranium. The report added that Tehran is open to allowing IAEA inspections of its centrifuges and has agreed to halt funding for proxy forces across the region. As the US and Iran inch, however cautiously, toward the possibility of dialogue, an unusual preliminary battle has emerged, not over terms or territory, but over who gets to sit at the negotiating table. Tehran’s message to Washington is neither subtle nor routine. It does not want to engage closely with envoys who are closely associated with President Donald Trump’s inner circle, particularly Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. Instead, Iran has signalled a preference for Vice President JD Vance - a choice that reflects not personal affinity, but strategic calculation. At the heart of this preference lies a deep and widening trust deficit.
A crisis of credibility
Iranian scepticism toward Washington’s negotiating framework is rooted in recent history. Talks that were once underway collapsed amid military escalation, reinforcing Tehran’s long-held suspicion that diplomacy can be used as cover for coercive action. From Iran’s perspective, the architects of past negotiations cannot be easily recast as credible brokers of peace. The continued presence of figures like Kushner and Witkoff is seen not as continuity, but as confirmation that little has changed in Washington’s approach. This is not merely a diplomatic disagreement; it is a credibility crisis. The Iran war is no longer just an energy story; it is not triggering a global food shock. A key reason lies in the disruption of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery not just for oil, but also for fertiliser inputs like urea and sulphur.

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Tuesday (Mar 24) said that the United States “negotiates with bombs” even as the White House stated that the diplomatic path remains open to end the war with Iran. Hegseth reiterated US President Donald Trump’s stance that Washington will not allow Tehran to possess a nuclear weapon. This comes as the war in West Asia entered its 26th day on March 25.While speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for the Secretary of Homeland Security, Hegseth claimed that it was the first time in history that a modern military had been so obliterated.“The air campaign we’ve conducted was one for the history books,” Hegseth said. “We have a president who, when he sends his warfighters out to fight, he unties their hands to actually go out and destroy the enemy as viciously as possible from moment one.”He doubled down, saying, “We negotiate with bombs.”“Never in history has a modern military… been so rapidly and historically obliterated, defeated, from day one with overwhelming firepower,” he said. “You have a choice, as we loiter over the top of Tehran, about your future.”He added, “The President has made it clear that you will not have a nuclear weapon. The war department agrees, our job is to ensure that. We are keeping our hand on that throttle as long and as hard as is necessary to ensure that the interests of the United States of America are achieved on that battlefield.”“He has been very clear with us about what we need to accomplish... creating the conditions for them never to have a nuclear capability, and that is exactly what we are doing in a historic fashion.”Trump blames Hegseth for starting Iran warMeanwhile, Trump blamed the Secretary of War for starting the war with Iran. In the same ceremony, the US president said, “I think this thing’s going to be settled very soon and they go, ‘Oh, that’s too bad.’ Pete didn’t want it to be settled.” He added, “They were not interested in settlement. They were interested in just winning this thing,”Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said that the US is in negotiations with Iran. He also claimed that Iran offered him a “very big present” related to oil and gas, without sharing any details.Hostilities began on February 28 when the US and Israeli military launched strikes on Iran, killing Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei and several other top Iranian officials. The operation was named ‘Epic Fury’ by the US and ‘Lion’s Roar’ by Israel. The attacks came amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran and ongoing talks over Iran’s nuclear program. In retaliation, Iran launched attacks on Israel and US military bases in the region, including in Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE, Iraq, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Azerbaijan. Iran has ruled out any possibility of a ceasefire, while US President Donald Trump has claimed victory multiple times, suggesting that the objective is nearly met.
