The latest escalation between Israel and Iran, marked by fresh missile barrages and intensified air defence activity, has significantly raised regional tensions. According to a recent report, multiple waves of Iranian missiles targeted central Israeli regions, triggering high-alert responses and causing injuries and damage on the ground. While the immediate focus remains on security and civilian safety, analysts suggest that such a conflict could also reshape the domestic political landscape for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Here’s a breakdown of five key problems the war could potentially help him address:&nbsp;1. Shifting focus away from domestic criticism&nbsp; Before the escalation, Netanyahu faced sustained criticism over internal governance issues, including judicial reforms and political divisions. A major external threat often unites the public, shifting attention from internal disputes to national security. The ongoing missile attacks, such as those reported in cities like Holon and near strategic areas like Dimona, have already pushed security concerns to the forefront, reducing space for political opposition.&nbsp; Also read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/-will-keep-bombing-our-little-hearts-out-if-trump-on-ending-iran-war-or-not-1774273998926">'Will keep bombing our little hearts out if...': Trump on ending Iran war, or not</a>&nbsp;2. Strengthening leadership image&nbsp; In times of war, leadership is judged on crisis management. A prolonged confrontation with Iran could effectively pause these challenges, as national emergency priorities override routine political processes.&nbsp;4. Consolidating political alliances&nbsp;War situations often force coalition partners and opposition figures to rally behind the government. Donald Trump has warned that the U.S. could “obliterate” Iran’s power plants if Tehran does not reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. The threat marks a sharp escalation in the ongoing US-Iran conflict, as the vital shipping route handles roughly one-fifth of global oil supplies.

Iran has threatened to mine the entire Persian Gulf if the US attacks the country’s coasts or islands. Iran’s Defence Council warned on Monday that “any attempt to attack Iran’s coasts or islands will cause all access routes in the Gulf ... to be mined." Notably, the United States is reported to be contemplating deploying ground forces in Iran and a blockade or occupation of Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export hub, to force it to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. “The only way to pass through the Strait of Hormuz for non-belligerent countries is coordination with Iran,” the statement from the high-level security body said. “Any enemy attempt to attack Iranian coasts or islands” will lead to “all access routes and communication lines in the Persian Gulf and coasts being mined with various naval mines,” a report by CNN stated. In a striking propaganda move, Iran has reportedly displayed a message linked to Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on its missiles, echoing his criticism of the ongoing war as “illegal” and “inhuman.” Sanchez has been among the more vocal European leaders questioning the conflict. The message, also seen as a jab at advanced US systems like the F-35, highlights how the war is now being fought not just on the battlefield, but through symbolism and global political messaging.

Global energy markets are under intense pressure as disruptions threaten up to 400 million barrels of oil supply. Key oil fields, ports, and terminals have reportedly been targeted, raising concerns over supply stability. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil flow, remains under threat, making markets increasingly volatile. Analysts warn this could trigger sustained high prices and wider economic ripple effects if the situation escalates further.

Saudi Arabia is increasingly seen as turning to Pakistan for military backing, as both nations signed the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) in September 2025, as tensions with Iran escalate.
