Gavaskar heaped praise on Dhoni on how he manages to get CSK out of tough situations. In IPL 2023, Dhoni has faced only 27 balls but scored 58 runs at a whopping strike rate of&nbsp;214.81. He almost won his side the game versus Rajasthan Royals (RR), in Chennai, as they fell short by three runs despite needing 54 off the last 18 balls.

During CSK's home game versus the Royals, Dhoni also led in his 200th game for the Yellow Army. In this regard, Gavaskar hailed Dhoni's longevity and said there will never be a captain like him in the future. "Captaining 200 matches is very difficult. Captaining so many matches is a burden and it could have affected his performance as well. But Mahi is different. He is a different captain. There hasn't been a captain like him and there will never be one like him in the future," Gavaskar pointed out.

CSK will face the Faf du Plessis-led RCB on Monday evening (April 17) and aim to add two more points in their tally and move up in the overall standings in this year's IPL season.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Virat Kohli is in sublime form this IPL season having already scored 214 runs in four matches so far. The batter had also managed to rack up three fifty plus scores with the latest coming in the match against Delhi Capitals.

Kohli, who scored 50 off 34, got out a juicy thigh-high full-toss ball from Lalit Yadav and was absolutely livid with himself for making a mess out of a scoring opportunity. RCB eventually managed 172 runs in their 20 overs.

“I was quite disappointed that I got out to a full toss. I’ve been playing really well. I wanted to make sure that after fifty, I was targeting 30-35 runs off the next 10 balls. That’s how I play. That would’ve helped us get past 200," said Kohli at the post-match presentation.

The batsman, however, judged the pitch correctly as he informed his teammates in the dugout, saying it slowed down considerably.

“One thing I mentioned to the guys in the change room was that 175 was enough on this pitch. It slowed down considerably when the spinners came on. Even the balls to hit off the back foot off Kuldeep were holding up, unlike the other games we played. We did well to get to that score and had the belief it was enough,” Kohli said at the presentation.

“When I’ve played my best cricket, those are the balls I’ve put away consistently (length balls on the up). That helps me to put pressure on the bowlers. When I put away their best balls, they’re going to try to do something else. I back myself to hit good balls and the best bowlers in the opposition," he added.

This was RCB's first win post two consecutive losses after winning their season opener against Mumbai Indians. Kohli also admitted that they let it slip last couple of matches but happy to get two points.

“That’s how I motivate myself to play out there. Very happy to get two points. We kind of let it slip away in the last two games. For us to bounce back like this was very crucial. That was a different mentality and phase altogether (T20 World Cup 2016 semis). I was in a space where I felt I could hit any ball. I back myself to hit good shots. When they come off, they look good,” he concluded.

Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul finally managed to shake off a slow start to IPL 2023 as he scored his first half-century of the season. Rahul, who had managed just 81 runs i four games before the match against Punjab Kings on Saturday, scored 74 off 56 balls.

During his innings, Rahul also broke a couple of records. With the 30th run of his innings, the LSG skipper became the fastest player to score 4,000 IPL runs in 105 innings, leaving behind Chris Gayle who had achieved the feat in 112 innings.

Apart from Rahul and Gayle, David Warner (114 innings) and Virat Kohli (128 innings) are the ones who have completed 4,000 runs in under 130 innings.

Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, have had a mixed IPL 2023 so far with two wins and two losses in four matches this season. After losing their first match against Punjab Kings, KKR bounced back in style, beating RCB and GT by 81 runs and three wickets, respectively.

KKR, however, lost their fourth match against Sunrisers Hyderabad but not before their skipper Nitish Rana gave them a scare. Former India bowler Harbhajan Singh, in particular, is very impressed with Rana's batting and captaincy both.

Speaking on Star Sports' Cricket Live Harbhajan Singh said, "Nitish Rana has led KKR from the front in the last two games. His timing has been immaculate, he attacked spinners and pacers with equal ease. He is batting well and even making the captaincy moves brilliantly."

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mulling the possibility of staging the Women’s Premier League (WPL) during a winter window as they try to engage more audience. The inaugural edition that was played in Mumbai in 2023 could be further expanded to a home-away format in the future according to Joint Secretary Jay Shah. The idea to move the WPL to the winter window could see the premier competition take place during the Hindu festival of Diwali.

"We are mulling the possibility of scheduling the WPL, in the home and away format, in the Diwali window; not two seasons in a year but just a different time window," Shah said during an interaction with mediapersons.

"Women's cricket now has a dedicated audience base and this number will only keep growing as we expect an encouraging turnout at the next WPL,” Shah further added.

The inaugural edition of the WPL was a huge success after Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals in the final in March. Harmanpreet Kaur’s army beat Delhi in a one-sided contest with all matches taking place in Mumbai at the Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium.

The Diwali festival which will start on November 12 will coincide with the ODI World Cup, further ruling away the possibility of staging the tournament in 2023.

Shah also commented on the media rights deal for the Indian team as a meeting is scheduled in June and July. The board is likely to close the deal before Afghanistan but the deal is likely to come into effect from the Australia series later in the year before the ODI World Cup.

"The BCCI Media Rights tender will be on schedule this year (June-July) and will depend on the Afghanistan tour, but more likely, the process will start from the Australia series. The Board will speak to all stakeholders concerned and will come up with an interim decision," BCCI secretary Shah said on Friday.

When you haven't lost a wicket in the powerplay, usually the best player comes on to bowl, you are trying to figure out what to do against him in the first two overs, so that you can get big ones in the last two overs of that guy and then rest of the innings becomes much easier."

Questioning Kohli's batting, Doull had said, "Kohli started off like a train. He was going hammer and tongs as he was playing a lot of shots. From 42 to 50, he took 10 balls. Concerned about a milestone. I don't think there's room for that in this game anymore. Just got to keep going, especially with wickets in hand at that stage. You got to keep going."

Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya in a recent chat, revealed that he was interested in joining Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) instead of GT when both the new franchises were being inducted in the IPL in 2022.

Speaking to Gaurav Kapoor in Titans' podcast, Hardik also said that it GT coach Ashish Nehra who talked to him into joining GT and offered him the captaincy.

“I did get a call from the other franchise (Lucknow Super Giants) as well, which was a new franchise in IPL. Someone who I knew (KL Rahul) was leading the team. For me, it was very important, considering the stage at which I was, where I really wanted to play with a person who has known me,” Hardik said in the podcast.

“I always found that people who know me have a different perspective than people who have never come across or come close to me. When I got the opportunity to work with someone I know, I was very keen to go to that side,” he added.

I was like, 'Ashu pa, if you weren't there, I wouldn't have even considered this because you're saying this… I've always felt you are one person who has understood what I am',” Hardik told Kapoor.

With Russell being out of form, KKR have found it very hard to accelerate or maintain the pressure in middle overs, leaving onus on the likes of Shardul Thakur and Rinku Singh. Russell's struggle becomes even more glaring with KKR top-order not able to perform as well.

Speaking on the same, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag told Rohan Gavaskar on Cricbuzz that he had asked Russell top open batting in 2018 and he found success doing so in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) but doing the same thing with KKR is a bit tricky.

"He had a leg injury so could KKR have sent him as an opener? He wouldn't have had to do a lot of running and could have used the field restrictions to his credit," Rohan Gavaskar had asked Sehwag.&nbsp;

“I told Andre Russell the same thing in 2018. I told Russell to go domestic cricket and open. if you get success as an opener then you will become a million-dollar boy. And he did that. He opened in CPL, scored a century in one of the games and messaged me, But he was the captain there, the biggest player. He can take such risks and calls of opening the batting. But can he do the same in KKR? This will have to be decided by the coaching staff and captain," Sehwag replied to Rohan.

“He has no problems against fast bowlers, it's the spinners that can get him into trouble but if he gets set while opening the batting then he will get a lot more balls to play and he can become even more dangerous,” Sehwag further added.

In terms of bowling, KKR skipper only tossed the ball to Russell for the first time in the fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The West Indian made an impact instantly with 3/22 but had to leave the field after being injured as he fell on the ground post bowling only 2.1 overs.
