"Targets like these, sometimes they become one-sided games. The kind of start given by Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill, they opened up the match but they [PBKS] came back and bowled well in the middle overs, they did not concede boundaries for three-four overs,” the GT batter said after the contest.

Tewatia has endured a reputation sorts in recent times as a pitch-hitter while winning matches for GT late on. He has been influential for the franchise in the last two seasons where he also helped them win crucial encounters in the 2022 season. He credited PBKS bowlers for pulling their side back in the contest after Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill had given the visitors a good start.

“Credit should be given to them for pulling it back. Towards the end, it was reversing and it became difficult to hit at will. But this is cricket - they came back well but we finished the game to be on the winning side," said Tewatia.

Speaking on his approach in the contest and with a handful of deliveries to go in the contest, Tewatia was full of confidence.

"I had two things on my mind. The leg-side is a bigger side and I thought I could take a couple but I felt it was slightly risky and with two deliveries remaining I thought that was a better shot. The ball was also reversing. I backed myself and executed the shot,” added Tewatia.

Shubman Gill's knock of 67 powered Gujarat Giants to a 6-wicket win over Punjab Kings in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium here on Thursday.

Gill scored the highest for Gujarat while Wriddhiman Saha played a knock of 30 runs off 19. For PBKS, Sam Curran, Harpreet Brar, Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh bagged one wicket each. Chasing a target of 154, Gujarat Giants openers got off to a flying start as Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill hammered Arshdeep Singh for four boundaries gathering 18 runs in the third over of the game.

Former West Indian bowling great Ian Bishop feels it’s too late for Jasprit Bumrah to tweak his bowling action in a bid to prolong his career and avoid regular injuries. The India seamer is out of action since September last year and missed all major series including the 2023 Asia Cup, the T20 World Cup in Australia, and the home Border-Gavaskar series.

Following undergoing back surgery in New Zealand lately, Jasprit Bumrah got ruled out of the ongoing IPL 2023 and is unlikely to regain full fitness in less than six months&nbsp;– meaning he will also miss the upcoming World Test Championship final against Australia and several bilateral series that will follow.

Speaking on what could make everything alright for Bumrah, Bishop said that given Bumrah’s age, he can’t make significant changes to his bowling action now;&nbsp;instead he has to find his own way of getting back on the track. The lanky seamer, who troubled even the best of batters during his time, gave his example saying he tried changing his bowling, and that messed up everything for him.

"As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Pandya was fined Rs. 12 lakh," the body added.

GT returned to winning ways in the IPL after losing the previous encounter in frantic style against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) when Rinku Singh smashed five sixes in the final over. Yash Dayal, who was on the receiving end in the contest was dropped in favour of Mohit Sharma in the PBKS contest on Thursday with the latter producing a superb spell of 18/2 in four overs. Watson added that having played alongside Warner for years helps him understand what David's style of play is&nbsp;and what all areas are there that need improvement. "Kohli started off like a train. He was going hammer and tongs as he was playing a lot of shots. From 42 to 50, he took 10 balls. Concerned about a milestone. I don't think there's room for that in this game anymore. Just got to keep going, especially with wickets in hand at that stage. You got to keep going," Doull had said about the RCB batter.

Salman also termed Doull's opinion as rubbish. "When he was in Pakistan, he used similar words for Babar Azam. If he had watched the game consciously, he would've noticed that Kohli tried to hit Bishnoi three four times but he missed. That is part of the game. He has 75 centuries in international cricket. He doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. It's utter rubbish. He (Doull) has played cricket, but he was a bowler," Butt said.

In the game, RCB scored a mammoth 212/2 in 20 overs. LSG, however, chased the target on the last ball of the match in a dramatic manner.

In a video published on the CSK Twitter handle, Dhoni was seen given a guard of honour by all the franchise dignitaries along with players and coaching staff. Dhoni was seen walking towards N. Srinivasan, the principal owner of the franchise while he was given a special memorial to mark the occasion. Former Indian head coach and commentator Ravi Shastri also congratulated Dhoni on making his 200th appearance as CSK skipper.

Delhi Capitals vice-captain Axar Patel made it clear that skipper David Warner's strike rate is a concern among the camp as well and that he has not been the sheet anchor role.

“He has not been given the sheet anchor role. Ricky (Ponting, Head Coach), Dada (Sourav Ganguly, Director of Cricket), Pravin (Amre) sir, Watto (Shane Watson), everyone is having constant talks with Warner about his strike rate,” Axar told reporters after DC's fourth consecutive loss this season.

The deputy, however, feels for his skipper and said that, "He is trying really hard but he is just not able to hit it properly (not verbatim)."

Notably, David Warner is currently the second highest run scorer in IPL 2023 with 209 runs in four games at an average of 52.25 but at lowly strike rate of just 114.84. Warner has also scored three fifties in four games but all in a losing cause.
