Sunrisers Hyderabad snapped Gujarat Titans' three-match winning streak with an eight-wicket win in the Indian Premier League, with captain Kane Williamson leading from the front with a solid 57 while Nicholas Pooran gave the finishing touches with a late flourish here on Monday.

Hardik Pandya's unbeaten 50 had taken Gujarat Titans to 162 for 7 after being sent in to bat, but that was never going to be enough, as Williamson, who struck his first fifty of the season, anchored the Sunrisers' chase, as they crossed the line in 19.1 overs.

Sunrisers thus recorded their second consecutive win after defeating Chennai Super Kings on Saturday last, while it was the Titan's first defeat after a hat-trick of wins.

Williamson, whose 46-ball knock was studded with two fours and four sixes, first added 64-runs with opener Abhishek Sharma (42 off 32 balls) to lay the foundation of the win.

Williamson then forged a 40-run stand with Rahul Tripathi, who retired hurt on 17, to inch closer to the win. 
Pooran (34 not out off 18 balls) sealed the deal with his brutal hitting after Willaimson was out in the 17th over. His innings was studded with two fours and an equal number of sixes. He hit a six to finish the match, taking his side to 168 for 2 in 19.1 overs.

There were two game-changing moments. First, in the 13th over, Williamson launched into Hardik Pandya by hitting him for two sixes. Then, in the 16th over bowled by Lockie Ferguson, the Sunrisers captain clobbered a six and a boundary, as SRH were cruising towards the target.

Earlier, captain Pandya's responsible 50 not out off 42 balls helped Gujarat Titans post a competitive 162 for 7 after a top-order failure.

Invited to bat, Hardik first forged a 40-run stand for the fourth wicket with David Miller (12) to rally the innings after the top three batters failed to convert their starts as Gujarat were in a spot of bother at 64/3 after eight overs.

Hardik then added 50 runs with Abhinav Mahonar, who justified his Rs 2.60 crore price tag with his quick-fire 35 off 21 balls, to ensure that the Titans crossed the 150-run mark.

Manohar, who got three lives, hit five boundaries and one six in his short stay and particularly launched into T Natarajan (2/34) in the 18th over, where Gujarat amassed 13 runs.

However, it was an unusual Hardik knock, as he mixed caution with aggression to anchor the innings. The all-rounder' announced his arrival with a straight-drive off Natarajan to fetch his first boundary and then was brutal on Umran Malik (1/39), whom he hammered two successive boundaries in the eight over, which fetched nine runs.

In the next over, he clobbered Aiden Markram for his only maximum over cow-corner but Hardik was devoid of partners, as SRH kept striking at regular intervals.

The SRH attack largely kept Hardik at bay, as they did not allow him to free his arms in the last five overs and as a result, it was Hardik's slowest fifty in the IPL.

It's just that I have been into politics for the last 19 years and this is not a political issue. So far, none of the political parties and politicians have got into the protests and that's the biggest strength of the people of this country," he added.

When asked how can Mumbai Indians spark a turnaround this season after losing four matches in a row, Bumrah said he would first like the team to win the toss to start with and then focus on the result of the matches. The Indian pacer explained how toss can play a crucial role for teams considering how dew has been a factor in deciding games this year.

"If it was up to me, I would say win the toss. That really helps. But yes, whenever you come into this scenario, there is a little bit of help with the new ball, so maintaining a good line, trying to swing the ball up front, I think will help you," said Bumrah.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) handed Gujarat Titans (GT) their first defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season on Monday (April 11). SRH chased down the target of 163 runs with five balls to spare as they thrashed Hardik Pandya &amp; Co. by 8 wickets to bag their second win on the trot. Their win also marked an end to GT's unbeaten streak of three games in the tournament.

It was a clinical performance with the bat from SRH in the run chase as Williamson led from the front with a captain's knock of 57 runs off 46 balls. He added an opening stand of 64 runs with Abhishek Sharma, who continued his fine form and scored a quickfire 42 off 32 balls. The duo got SRH off to a flyer and set the stage for a comfortable run chase for their side.

Hardik, who has been enjoying a great start to his stint as captain of Gujarat Titans, saw his side slip to their first defeat this season and lost his cool during the game. In&nbsp;the 13th over of SRH's run-chase, Hardik was taken to the cleaners by Williamson, who slammed two back-to-back sixes on two deliveries.

On the final delivery of that over, SRH batter Rahul Tripathi played a shot in the air which landed close to Shami, who was fielding at deep third man. Trent Boult (2/30) then struck twice in a sensational opening over, while Chahal (4/41) picked up four wickets to achieve the feat of claiming 150 IPL victims but Marcus Stoinis blasted two fours and four maximums in his unbeaten 38 off 17 balls to conjure up hopes of a turnaround.

But Kuldeep Sen, making his IPL debut, showed great nerves as he defended 15 runs in the last over as RR limited LSG to 162 for eight. With this win, RR bounced back from their four wicket loss to RCB in the last match to take the top position in the IPL standings, while LSG slipped to fifth spot.

SRH rode on brilliant knocks of skipper Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma to chase down the target of 163 runs with five balls to spare to secure their second win on the trot.

Former Indian cricket team captain Sunil Gavaskar left English commentator Alan Wilkins stumped as he asked him about the Kohinoor diamond on commentary during the match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the ongoing IPL 2022.

Batting legend Gavaskar, who is known for his sharp analysis of the game, is also blessed with a great sense of humour which was on&nbsp;display during the game between RR and LSG. Gavaskar went on to ask Wilkins about the Kohinoor after the British commentator made a reference between the Marin Drive and the Queen's necklace.

The game was being played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and during one of the breaks, the broadcaster showcased some of the shots of the famous Marin drive which is right next to the stadium. Marin drive is also known as the 'Queen's Necklace'. While speaking about the same, Gavaskar went on to remind Wilkins of the Kohinoor which is still awaited in India.

R Ashwin left many surprised as he decided to retire out while batting during his side Rajasthan Royals (RR)'s clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Sunday (April 10). Ashwin became the first batter in the history of IPL to retire out during a game as he walked off the pitch voluntarily without getting dismissed or injured.

Ashwin, who came out to bat at number six for RR in their clash against LSG, was batting on 28 off 23 balls when he decided to walk off the pitch retired out and allowed Riyan Parag to take the strike. Parag went on to score 8 off just 4 balls including a six. His runs proved crucial for RR as they went on to beat LSG by just 3 runs after successfully defending the total of 165 runs.

Ashwin recently opened up on his decision to retire out in the 19th over and said it was a 'moment thing'. Ashwin explained in football terms how T20 is a team game and such decisions can sometimes help the team in turning around the result of a game.

"It was an in the moment thing," Ashwin told Cricbuzz on his decision to retire out.&nbsp;"T20 is more a team game than we all know. It is almost as much as football. The goal scorers are like your opening batter or wicket-takers. But they are worth it only if your goalkeeper or defenders are ready to do what it takes," he added.

As per the rules, a batter can retire any time during the game and walk off the pitch if he wants to and he is considered retired out in such a case. However, as per the laws, if the batter has decided to retire without any injury or illness, he can return in that innings to bat again only after the consent of the opposition captain.

Rajasthan Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkara was also asked about Ashwin's decision post the game and he revealed it was a joint call taken by both the spinner and the RR management. He also lauded Ashwin for sacrificing his wicket and for his excellent bowling performance.

"Ashwin himself was asking from the field as well, and we had discussed it just before that, as to what we would do," Sangakkara said.

CSK had tried the opening pair of Rurturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway in their opening game of the season against KKR but had to drop the Kiwi batter after a poor show in the first game. Robin Uthappa has since been opening with Gaikwad but the duo have failed to deliver consistently at the top.

Parthiv believes Dhoni can promote himself as an opener in the batting line-up or the veteran wicket-keeper batter can also bat at number three or four for his team. Dhoni enjoyed some success batting at number three for the Indian team during his early days in international cricket and also opened the batting on a few occasions for the Men in Blue.

“He is someone who has revived the CSK side over the years. MS Dhoni started his career as an opener, why not take the role in the fag-end of his career? He is batting at No.7 now and plays hardly 10-15 balls. So why not Dhoni bat up in the order at No.3 or maybe at 4 or open? Just a figure like MS Dhoni, even if he stays there for 14-15 overs you never know. You will have to do something different,” Parthiv said on Cricbuzz.

Dhoni is currently batting at number 6 or 7 for Chennai Super Kings and has been playing as a finisher for a number of years for the four-time champions. However, his waning prowess and failure to take on the bowlers at crucial junctures have led to CSK's struggles of late.

“Every time India were in trouble in seaming conditions, MS Dhoni has got runs, whether it was against Sri Lanka where he got 80 in Dharamsala or in Chennai against Pakistan where he got a hundred. With his technique, everyone would think that he would struggle on a seaming wicket and here the ball is seaming around in the first 4-5 overs and he has his own technique and knows how to survive,” Parthiv explained.
