The two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have entered the IPL 2021 final, riding on the back of some superlative performances from their Indian youngsters such as Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Varun Chakravarthy along with some very vital contributions from Sunil Narine, Lockie Ferguson, etc.

For the unversed, Eoin Morgan-led KKR had only two wins from seven games in the first leg of IPL 14, in India. However, they turned their campaign emphatically with seven victories from nine games to enter their third finale in the IPL. Ahead of their big-ticket encounter versus MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Virender Sehwag has suggested the Kolkata franchise to retain one of their uncapped Indian players, i.e. Venkatesh Iyer.

Iyer was introduced into the KKR line-up in the UAE leg. The swashbuckling left-hander made a mark instantly, with his free-flowing approach, to amass 320 runs in 10 games at an average of 32 and strike-rate of 125, along with three half-centuries.

Thus, Sehwag told Cricbuzz, "No doubt. He has been a great find of this tournament, because if someone has been instrumental in staging KKR’s comeback, it has been Iyer. The starts he has given KKR at the top, it has allowed the team to reach the final. Even against Delhi Capitals, he finished the match in the first 10 overs itself and from there onward, it was merely a formality."

"The way he is batting, he can be the top contender if KKR are looking to retain some players. He may have come in this year for a cheaper price but heading into the mega auction, he will be sold for a very expensive price. So, I would like to believe that KKR would discuss that if they are to retain 2-3 Indians, Iyer can be one of them," Sehwag added.

Iyer has taken on some world-class bowlers with ease and confidence. His contributions at the top of the order have immensely helped KKR to start well in the UAE leg. He was also impressive in the side's narrow-win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Qualifier 2, taking his franchise to the finale. He will now like to play a match-winning knock versus Chennai in the season-finale and guide Kolkata to their third title. If he plays a memorable knock in the final, KKR will surely like to retain him ahead of the mega auction, later this year.

Helicopter shot loading! MS Dhoni resorts to his trademark stroke at the nets before CSK's IPL 2021 final

Former South African pacer Dale Steyn weighed in on the final clash of Indian Premier League 2021 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on Thursday (October 15).

Expressing his thoughts on the batting forms of skippers of both the teams — MS Dhoni and Eoin Morgan, Steyn said that their captaincy skills helped the teams get to the final despite the fact that both of them failed to impress with their individual performance.

"Their captaincy has helped their teams get to the final, but with one game to go, you worry it will catch up to them," said Steyn in a conversation on ESPNcricinfo.

"Class is permanent with someone like MS Dhoni. He came out the other day (Qualifier 1) and was able to get his team over the line. I feel he has probably got it between his teeth, whereas Eoin Morgan might just be struggling a bit more with the bat, and KKR might just run out of their luck, so as to speak," he added.

If we talk about both the captains, while Dhoni showed signs of redemption in the knockout game against Delhi Capitals, Morgan registered a duck before KKR sealed a win to set up a final clash with CSK.

IPL2021 final: We've got nothing to lose lads and that makes us dangerous, says KKR coach Brendon McCullum

As MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are all set to take on Eoin Morgan's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final of Indian Premier League 2021, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his thoughts over the quality of cricket throughout the season.

Manjrekar highlighted the performances by players who are "ordinary" and are "past their prime" in the 14th edition of the cash-rich league and also mentioned why there were so many "bizarre" ends and "turn-arounds". He further opined why this season has been the "most frustrating" IPL to watch for him.

"I've followed the IPL very closely, but this has been a very unique IPL. Because we have seen some quality players, but we have also seen a large number of guys who are either ability-wise quite ordinary to begin with or players who are past their prime. So, we have seen a lot of those kinds of players in the IPL and we have seen some bizarre results and performances," Manjrekar said during a show on ESPNcricinfo.com.

With seven needed off the last over, Rahul Tripathi (12 not out) hit a six on the second last ball of the over to guide his side home.

Here's why Sanjay Manjrekar feels IPL 2021 has been 'most frustrating' to watch

Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) bowed out of the IPL 2021 edition after losing the Qualifier 2 to Eoin Morgan's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah. After being asked to bat first, Pant & Co. only managed a modest 135-5. In reply, KKR were oncourse for an easy win, courtesy Venkatesh Iyer's brisk half-century, and well-placed at 123-1 in 15.5 overs before they managed to somehow emerge on top on the penultimate ball, with three wickets to spare.

DC's wily off-spinner Ashwin conceded 27 runs and accounted for 2 wickets, both in the final over, in 3.5 overs but couldn't prevent KKR from winning the game. However, former cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar isn't impressed with a veteran and experienced bowler like Ashwin. Manjrekar feels Ashwin didn't look threatening and bowled defensively in his first three overs; letting KKR run away with the game.

Delhi Capitals (DC) enjoyed a stellar campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
Despite the final berth, KKR skipper Eoin Morgan admitted that the win "should've been a lot easier" after the good start. "We are delighted to get over the line. During the second Qualifier, KKR opted to bowl first and restricted Delhi to 135 for 5 at Sharjah. Venkatesh Iyer (55) and Shubman Gill (46) then shared 96 runs for the opening wicket but KKR lost five wickets, adding just seven runs to stare at defeat. But Tripathi smashed the much-needed six to snatch a win from the jaws of defeat. After the match, KKR players celebrated the win as videos and pictures of the same went viral on social media forums. Young KKR stars such as Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana were spotted with a giant custom-built cake. Watch: Here's how Kolkata Knight Riders players celebrated the epic win over Delhi Capitals

Ahead of the marquee IPL 2021 finale between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), former England captain Michael Vaughan feels the two-time winners KKR franchise might make a big change in their line-up. KKR have entered their third IPL final after beating Delhi Capitals (DC) by three wickets in Qualifier 2 and will now face the MS Dhoni-led CSK, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on October 15 (Friday).

While the Andre Russell-less KKR line-up have done exceedingly well to turn their campaign around and beat DC in the Qualifier 2, without their West Indian all-rounder, they will be eager to regain Russell's services in the IPL 14 finale. For the unversed, Russell has a knack of performing well versus the Yellow Army. The all-rounder returned with a wicket and a quickfire 22-ball 54 in the first face-off between both sides this season, in Mumbai.

Hence, Russell's fitness will be closely monitored by the Kolkata camp. If fit, Vaughan believes that Morgan -- who has done nothing significant with the bat and has four ducks in IPL 14 -- might leave himself out in order to accommodate Russell.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, the Englishman said, "They have to make a call on the pitch because when they played at Sharjah, they got used to the pitch, knew the conditions, and stuck with the team. Dubai might be a different proposition, it might be a different surface. If Andre Russell can bowl four overs, they may turn to change Shakib."

He further added, "You know, they may think that a left-arm spinner (won't be required). Again, we'll talk about Eoin Morgan (chuckles). I personally wouldn't drop him, but do not be surprised if he drops himself) because I just know the character that he is. He will do what he feels is best for the team. I think he's a massive player, and adds 25 runs of value with his tactics, maybe more with his man-management of those younger players that we talk about. So I would certainly play him, but don't rule it out with Eoin Morgan because he's that kind of personality."

IPL 2021 final: Michael Vaughan predicts one BIG change in KKR line-up ahead of CSK face-off

Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) faced the two-time winners Eoin Morgan-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2021 edition, at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah, on Wednesday (October 13). In a bid to enter their second successive IPL final, the Pant-led DC franchise lost the battle to the KKR line-up by three wickets in a thrilling encounter.

Being asked to bat first, Pant & Co. rode on sedate knocks from Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Shimron Hetmyer to post 135-5. In reply, KKR were 123-1 before a collapse saw them requiring 7 off the last over. With two wickets falling in succession, KKR needed 6 off 2 balls before Rahul Tripathi finished the proceedings by hitting a maximum on the penultimate ball, off R Ashwin, as KKR entered the final whereas DC bowed out of the 14th edition.

While Pant was very emotional and at a loss of words after DC's exit, the 24-year-old was at his best before the Qualifier 2 kicked off. Ahead of the game, the wicketkeeper-batsman hilariously pranked umpire Anil Choudhary and left everyone in splits. Here's what he did:

Post DC's exit, Pant said at the post-match presentation, "I don't have words to express at the moment, can't tell anything. We just kept believing, tried to stay in the game as long as possible. The bowlers nearly pulled it back, but it's unfortunate that it didn't go our way. They bowled very well in the middle-overs, we got stuck and couldn't rotate strike. Delhi Capitals are known to be positive and hopefully we'll come back better next season."

"We played really good cricket, yes, there will be ups and downs, but we'll stay positive, be there for each other, care for each other and hopefully we'll come back better next season," Pant added.

Under Pant, DC ended at the third position overall. They topped the league stage but couldn't enter the final after losing both Qualifier 1 and 2. The final will now be played between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and KKR on October 15 (Friday) at Dubai.

Eoin Morgan-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) entered the final of Indian Premier League 2021 after a stunning performance against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Wednesday (October 13), in a match that went down the wire. KKR's Rahul Tripathi hit a six off the second last ball to take his into the final, where they will face three-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK). KKR opted to bowl first and dished out another superlative bowling display to restrict Delhi Capitals to 135 for 5 at Sharjah. Venkatesh Iyer (55) and Shubman Gill (46) then shared 96 runs for the opening wicket but KKR lost five wickets, adding just seven runs to stare at defeat. But Tripathi smashed the much-needed six to snatch win from the jaws of defeat. IPL 2021: Twitter hails Kolkata Knight Riders' stunning win over DC as 'one of the best comebacks'

IPL 2021 edition saw two new captains in the form of Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson. While Samson took charge of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), taking over from Steve Smith, Pant replaced Shreyas Iyer after the Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper injured himself ahead of IPL 14's first leg, in India early this year.

While Iyer joined the DC franchise before the second and final leg, in the UAE, the team management continued with Pant as the skipper for the remainder of the season. Rahul Tripathi smashed a six in the penultimate ball as Kolkata Knight Riders beat Delhi Capitals by three wickets in the second IPL qualifier here on Wednesday to set up a title clash with Chennai Super Kings. Opting to bowl, KKR dished out another superlative bowling display to restrict Delhi Capitals to 135 for 5 on a slow Sharjah track. Venkatesh Iyer (55) and Shubman Gill (46) then shared 96 runs for the opening wicket but KKR lost five wickets, adding just seven runs to stare at defeat. But Tripathi smashed the much-needed six to snatch win from the jaws of defeat. Earlier, invited to bat, DC opener Shikhar Dhawan struggled his way to a 39-ball 36 but couldn't break the shackles. Prithvi Shaw (18) looked good in his brief stay, while comeback man Marcus Stoinis (18) got the start but couldn't capitalise on it. In the 18th over, Shimron Hetmyer (17) unleashed two sixes off Lockie Ferguson after getting a second lease of life, while Shreyas Iyer (30 not out) hit a four and a last-ball six in the 20th over to take DC to a competitive score. IPL 2021: KKR set up title clash with CSK after defeating Delhi Capitals in a last-over thriller

David Warner had a torrid and forgettable run in IPL 2021. The Aussie opener started once again as the Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) captain, but back-to-back losses and his indifferent form led to his sacking during the first leg in India, early this year. When the second and final leg commenced in the UAE, by then Warner had lost the faith of the SRH team management.

While he played the first two games of the Hyderabad franchise, his low-returns with the bat led to his ouster. Moreover, he was not even seen in the SRH dugout for a few games; raising eyebrows among the ardent SRH fans. While Warner finally returned to the stands, during SRH's face-off versus Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he wasn't included in a video shared by the franchise -- featuring all their players -- after they ended IPL 14 at the bottom.

After SRH's campaign, Warner also opened up on his fallout with the team management. "I am not 100 per cent sure how to answer that. You don't know who the person is going for you and who isn't," Warner said on Sports Today.

He added, "The other disappointing thing for me was not being explained why I was dropped as captain. If you want to go along the lines of form, it is a difficult one because, I guess whatever you have done in the past would have some weight moving forward, you would think Especially when you have played about 100 games for the franchise, I think I had four bad games in those first five matches in Chennai.
Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) once again fell short of winning their maiden IPL title as they bowed out of the 2021 edition by losing to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Eliminator, on Monday (October 11) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah.

After confirming a spot in the playoffs, with two games to spare in the league stage, RCB were beaten by KKR by four wickets, with two balls to spare, in the Eliminator as Sunil Narine's magnificent 4 for 21 and a belligerent 26 took his side home. 'He's not the future' - Gautam Gambhir names 3 players RCB can retain ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction

Virat Kohli officially stepped down as Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) captain after the three-time runners-up ended their campaign in IPL 2021. RCB locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Eliminator on Monday (October 11), at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah, where they lost to the two-time winners by four wickets to bow out of the current edition. With this, Kohli's tenure as RCB captain also came to an end.

Kohli had taken over as RCB's full-time captain ahead of IPL 2013, after leading the franchise on an ad hoc basis especially in 2012. Under him, the Bengaluru franchise reached the playoffs on four occasions -- in 2015, 2016, 2020 and 2021 -- and ended as the runners-up in 2016. In addition, they finished at the bottom in 2017 and 2019.

After RCB's exit from IPL 2021, the 32-year-old Kohli reflected back on his journey as RCB captain over the years, in a video shared by the franchise's official Instagram handle. "It's a bit of an emotional moment for me because I have led this franchise for so long. And I have tried my absolute best to make the team win and get us a title. Unfortunately, it could not happen and such is life. I don't have any complaints. I only have gratitude for the opportunity that RCB has given me. I am happy that I could give everything I had," Kohli said in a video shared by RCB on social media.

Over the years, Kohli led some big names in the RCB line-up, such as Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh, Tillakaratne Dilshan, AB de Villiers, Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell.

IPL 2021: Virat Kohli pours his heart out after stepping down as RCB captain - WATCH

Delhi Capitals' (DC) pacer Avesh Khan has had a breakthrough season in IPL 2021, being the second-highest wicket-taker overall with 23 scalps in 15 games. Avesh has dismissed some of the greats of the game, such as MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, etc.

For the unversed, Avesh got rid of Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) captain Dhoni twice during the league stage encounters when DC locked horns with the Yellow Army. The Delhi speedster's extra pace and bounce troubled Dhoni as he dismissed him twice and made heads turn. In an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Avesh has now revealed how DC captain Rishabh Pant plotted the dismissal of Dhoni on both the occasions.

“When Mahi bhai walked in, Rishabh told me to bring in the mid-on and mid-off. He said if he [Dhoni] hits you over them, that is fine, but don't pitch fuller, bowl your length. At first I disagreed with him and asked him not to bring in five fielders and leave only four inside [the 30-yard circle], but he insisted. So I did that and the second ball, he [Dhoni] attempted to hit over when he saw both fielders [mid-on and mid-off] inside the circle. He had not played for a while, and Rishabh took advantage of that and we got the wicket,” Avesh said.

Speaking on the second instance when he got rid of Dhoni, Avesh added, "Once again I had a chat with Rishabh. Basically, he said to pitch a hard length and let him [Dhoni] hit from there because it is tough to do that. And that is what I did and he edged."

However, Avesh couldn't dismiss Dhoni for cheap when CSK and DC locked horns for the third time in IPL 14; during the Qualifier 1 on Sunday (October 10). Coming out to bat in the penultimate over of the contest, with CSK needing 19 off 9 balls to chase down 172, Dhoni missed two deliveries off Avesh but smacked him for a six before finishing things off in style in the final over.

Pant-led DC will now face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Qualifier 2, at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah, on Wednesday evening (October 13) for a final in the place. Avesh, meanwhile, will hope to take DC to their second successive IPL final and get another chance to dismiss Dhoni.

Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ended their run in the IPL 2021 edition, bowing out of the mega event after losing the Eliminator to Kolkata Knight Riders at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah on Monday evening (October 11).

The RCB franchise had qualified for the playoffs with two games to spare in the league stage. While one expected Kohli and AB de Villiers to be one of the main reasons for the team's entry into the playoffs, it was uncapped Indian pacer Harshal Patel who played a much bigger role in taking the three-time runners-up to the last four. The 30-year-old scalped 30 wickets in 14 games and ended the season by taking two more wickets in the Eliminator. Thus, he equalled Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) all-rounder Dwayne Bravo to end an IPL season with most wickets (32).

IPL 2021: RCB star Harshal Patel equals Dwayne Bravo’s all-time record with 32 scalps during Eliminator vs KKR

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have released a statement after all-rounder Dan Christian and his partner Jorgia Dunn were subjected to online abuse by trolls after the team's exit from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. RCB lost against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 4 wickets in the Eliminator to bow out of the competition.

Christian, who had an off day with the ball, conceding 29 runs in his 1.4 overs, was targeted online. The Australian all-rounder alleged that his pregnant partner's social media was also filled with horrific abuse.

RCB have now expressed their support for the player and has stated that they are hundred per cent behind him. The franchise asserted that it won't tolerate any online abuse against the players, their families and loved ones.

“We’re 100% with you @danchristian54 and we will not tolerate online abuse towards players and especially towards their families and loved ones,” RCB said in a statement. “Winning and losing are a part of this beautiful game we all love.
