Rohit Sharma-led Team India's T20 World Cup (T20 WC) campaign was off to a winning start as the one-time winners edged past Pakistan in a riveting Super 12 clash, held at the MCG, Melbourne on Sunday (October 23). Opting to bowl first, India rode on Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya's three-wicket hauls to restrict Pakistan to 159-8. In reply, they were tottering at 31 for 4 and needed 115 off the last 60 balls to win the contest.

From thereon, Virat Kohli stitched an impressive 113-run fifth-wicket stand with Hardik (37-ball 40) to keep India alive in the contest before the former's unbeaten 82, off 53 balls, took India past the finish line on the last ball with four wickets in hand. After the win, the 28-year-old Hardik revealed the text he shared with his family members in the run-up to the high-voltage contest.

"I just had a feeling, that’s why before the game I took a punt saying to all the closest people of my life, which are my brother, my wife, my sister-in-law, my manager, I message them saying that I’m gonna put on a show for you guys tonight. So whatever I do, it’s for you. I told Patty as well as I told you guys whether I wanted to be accountable, I wanted to be like Hardik today’s your day," Hardik said on BCCI.TV.

T20 WC: Hardik Pandya reveals text he sent to his family before Indo-Pak clash at the MCG

Virat Kohli played a brilliant knock versus Pakistan to help India open their T20 World Cup (T20 WC) 2022 campaign with a thrilling win, in the Super 12 clash at the iconic MCG, Melbourne on October 23 (Sunday). Being asked to bat first, Babar Azam-led Pakistan rode on half-centuries from Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed to post 159 for 8. In reply, India were tottering at 31 for 4 before a 113-run fifth-wicket stand between Kohli (82 not out) and Hardik Pandya (37-ball 40) took India to a stunning four-wicket win at the iconic stadium.

Many have claimed that Kohli's knock was the greatest inning by an Indian in the T20 WC. Earlier, Kohli had scored a magical 82 not out, off 51 balls, versus Australia in the virtual quarter-final of the 2016 T20 WC, in Mohali. Following his MCG heroics, many have labelled it as the greatest knock by a Team India player in the tournament history. However, former Indian opener Sanjay Bangar disagrees.

"The best I feel is Yuvraj Singh's, he will be at No. 1 because it was a semi-final match, so it was a different level. The second, as Virat Kohli himself said in his post-match interview that he will rate the Melbourne innings higher, the sort of attack it was and the position we were in, difficult conditions, I feel Melbourne should be there," Bangar said in a video posted on Aakash Chopra's YouTube Channel.

Talking about Yuvraj's 30-ball 70-run knock versus the Aussies, it took place in the inaugural edition's second semi-final. Back then, MS Dhoni-led India faced Adam Gilchrist-led Aussies and posted a healthy 188 for 5 after opting to bat first, in Durban. India were 41 for 2 before Yuvi stitched an impressive 81-run stand with Robin Uthappa and went onto slam 70 off 30 deliveries, laced with 5 fours and equal number of sixes at a whopping strike rate of 233.33. Since Aussies were the favourites in the 2007 edition, Yuvi's inning was lauded by many. In reply, Australia managed 173 for 7 to lose by 15 runs.

Not Virat Kohli's masterclass against Pakistan! Sanjay Bangar picks greatest knock by an Indian in T20 WC

Virat Kohli's masterclass, an unbeaten 82 off 53 balls, propelled India to a stunning four-wicket win over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup clash at the MCG, Melbourne on Sunday (October 23). In what was both the Asian giants' Super 12 opening fixtures, the Rohit Sharma-led India restricted Pakistan to 159-8, after opting to bowl first. In reply, the one-time winners rode on Kohli's 82* and Hardik Pandya's 37-ball 40 to take India home after they were reeling at 31 for 4 at one stage.

Kohli's knock was laced with 6 fours and 4 sixes, at a strike rate of 154.72. He rotated the strike with Hardik, who was the aggressor of the two at the beginning of their 113-run fifth-wicket stand. While Hardik slowed down, the 33-year-old Kohli upped the ante with some breathtaking shots and took India home in a dramatic last-over finish in front of a jam-packed stadium.

After the clash, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan -- who was the Player-of-the-Match in MS Dhoni-led India's 2007 T20 WC final win over Pakistan -- lifted Kohli as the ex-captain joined him and presenter Jatin Sapru for an interview on Star Sports. Here's the video:

The D-day has finally arrived. India and Pakistan are set to meet in the Super 12 round of the Men's T20 World Cup 2022 edition, at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Melbourne on Sunday afternoon (October 23). This will be the second clash of the day, with Ireland-Sri Lanka face-off at Hobart being the first encounter.

India and Pakistan do not meet in bilaterals ever since the strained political relations between both sides. Hence, both the sides now only square off during multi-nation or ICC events. Thus, the clash becomes even more special for cricket lovers from both countries. This year, India and Pakistan have already met twice, during the 2022 Asia Cup. Back then, both teams won and lost a game each.

During their last T20 WC face-off, India lost their first-ever World Cup game to their arch-rivals Pakistan. Babar Azam-led Men in Green rode on Shaheen Afridi's 3/31 and unbeaten half-centuries from Babar-Md Rizwan to thrash India by ten wickets. Since then, India have revamped their T20I playing style and have enjoyed considerable success in the format in 2022.

India vs Pakistan, T20 WC 2022: Predicting Rohit Sharma & Co.'s likely playing XI for high-voltage clash

Jay Shah's revelation on the Asia Cup 2023 edition has sparked a huge controversy. After BCCI'S Annual General Meeting (AGM), on Tuesday (October 18) in Mumbai, Shah commenced his second innings as the board's secretary whereas Roger Binny succeeded Sourav Ganguly to become the new chief.

After the AGM, Shah -- who is also Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) -- revealed that the next year's Asia Cup won't be held in Pakistan as India can't travel to the neighbouring country due to the strained political relations between both nations. Hence, he confirmed that a neutral venue will once again host the Asia Cup, as was the case during this year's edition (held in the UAE with eventful winners Sri Lanka as hosts).

Since then, Pakistan's former cricketers and even their board PCB have strongly reacted to the ACC chief's claims. Now, veteran keeper-batter Kamran Akmal also joined the bandwagon and has even suggested Team Pakistan to boycott India at all levels, including the upcoming T20 World Cup clash on October 23 (Sunday) at the MCG, Melbourne.

“I believe Jay Shah’s statement was unexpected, and since he attended the Pakistan-India game during this year’s Asia Cup, he should reserve politics for his opposition and avoid dragging it into sports,” Kamran told ARY news.

He added, "Asia Cup should only be hosted in Pakistan and if that does not happen then Pakistan should not play against India at any level, be it ICC events’ matches, Asia Cup matches, or even their match on October 23."

PCB responds to ACC President's statement:

“The PCB has noted with surprise and disappointment of yesterday’s comments made by the ACC President Mr Jay Shah with regards to shifting of next year’s Asia Cup to a neutral venue. The comments were made without any discussion or consultation with the Board of the Asian Cricket Council or the Pakistan Cricket Board (event host) and without any thoughts towards their long-term consequences and implications."

"After having presided over the ACC meeting during which Pakistan was awarded the ACC Asia Cup with an overwhelming support and response from the ACC Board Members, Mr Shah’s statement of shifting of the ACC Asia Cup has clearly been made unilaterally. This is contrary to the philosophy and spirit for which the Asian Cricket Council was formed in September 1983 – a united Asian cricket body to safeguard the interests of the its Members and organise, develop, and promote the game of cricket in Asia."

The statement added, "The overall impact of such statements have the potential to split the Asian and international cricketing communities, and can impact Pakistan’s visit to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and future ICC Events in India in the 2024-2031 cycle.

“The PCB has to date not received any official communication or clarification from the ACC on the statement of the ACC President. As such, the PCB has now requested the Asian Cricket Council to convene an emergency meeting of its Board as soon as practically possible to discuss this important and sensitive matter.”

As of now, a venue for Asia Cup 2023 edition is expected to be finalised in the near future whereas India are set to host next year's ODJ World Cup. However, Pakistan's participation is doubtful following PCB's reaction.

Team India is set to commence their campaign in the Men's T20 World Cup with their opening fixture against Pakistan on Sunday (October 23) at the iconic MCG, Melbourne. After bowing out of the last year's edition, in the UAE, in the Super 12 round, India will look to start on a strong note. Ahead of Rohit Sharma & Co.'s opening game, former Indian captain Kapil Dev has expressed concerns on India's chances of entering the semi-finals of the marquee event in Australia.

Speaking to the press in Lucknow, the 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil pointed out, "What more do you want in the side other than having all-rounders who could win matches for a side not only in the World Cup but in all other matches or events? A cricketer like Hardik Pandya has been quite useful for India. All-rounders are the key players of any side, and they become the strength of a team. An all-rounder like Hardik gives Rohit Sharma the liberty to make use of the sixth bowler in a match. He is a good batter, bowler and fielder too. Ravindra Jadeja is also a perfect all-rounder for India."

T20 World Cup: Kapil Dev 'concerned' with India's chances of making it to top 4 ahead of Pakistan clash

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Jay Shah -- who is also BCCI Secretary -- confirmed on Tuesday (October 18) that the 2023 Asia Cup won't happen in Pakistan as India won't be travelling to the neighbouring country, given the strained political relations between both nations. While the ACC is yet to discuss the matter in detail and decide on the venue, it has been confirmed that the next edition of the continental tournament will once again be held at a neutral place; as was the case for this year's edition.

Following Jay Shah's revelation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly threatened to pull out of the 2023 ODI World Cup, to be held in India, if India do not travel to Pakistan for the 50-over Asia Cup next year. "The PCB is now prepared to take hard decisions and play hardball because it is also aware that the ICC and ACC events will have to face commercial liabilities and losses if Pakistan does not play India in these multi-team events," a senior PCB source told PTI.

On Tuesday (October 18), the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) is set to take place which will see Roger Binny, former pacer and 1983 World Cup winning member, take over from Sourav Ganguly to become the board's 36th President.

It had been reported earlier that Binny was a strong contender to succeed Ganguly after the former Indian captain's exit was confirmed. Meanwhile, the election of the other office bearers will only be a formality as all will be elected unopposed. Jay Shah will continue to serve as the BCCI Secretary, Arun Dhumal will vacate the post of a treasurer and take over as the IPL chairman with Ashish Shelar succeeding him, Rajeev Shukla will be the vice-president whereas Devajit Saikia will be the joint secretary. The AGM will also see the board members dwelling on whether the BCCI is eager to field a candidate for the ICC chairmanship or back the incumbent Greg Bracley for another term.

Roger Binny set to succeed Sourav Ganguly as BCCI's 36th President in AGM

Mohammed Shami bowled only the last over during India's narrow six-run win over Australia in their warm-up encounter ahead, in Brisbane on Monday (October 17), of the main draw of the T20 World Cup. Shami, who was drafted into the Indian team as a replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah, didn't field for the first 19 overs, with Aussies chasing a competitive 187 set by Rohit Sharma & Co., and came onto bowl the last six balls, returning with 1-0-4-3.

Shami looks set to be part of India's T20 WC opening fixture, where they will play Pakistan at the iconic MCG, Melbourne on October 23. Before that, the experienced pacer will like to bowl his full qouta of overs in India's remaining warm-up tie, where they face New Zealand on Wednesday (October 19). Filling in for Bumrah, Shami has a herculean task ahead -- having last played a T20I during the last year's World Cup in the UAE -- but looks set for the challenge.

Ahead of the Super 12 round of the T20 WC, former Indian all-rounder Suresh Raina made a bold claim. He feels Shami isn't a perfect replacement for Bumrah because players like him are rare.

"I would not call him a perfect replacement because you cannot replace Jasprit Bumrah or Ravindra Jadeja. They have played consistently for India and they have given performances," Raina told NDTV.

On Tuesday (October 18), former Indian cricketer Roger Binny was officially announced as the BCCI President, replacing Sourav Ganguly. After Ganguly's exit was confirmed, Binny's name was doing the rounds as an ideal successor and the 1983 World Cup hero has been appointed as BCCI's 36th President in Mumbai.

"As the BCCI president, I want to primarily focus on 2 things. First is the prevention of injuries to the players. Jasprit Bumrah got injured just before the World Cup, which affects the whole plan. Second, I want to focus on the pitches in the country," Binny told ANI after his appointment.

Recently, Ganguly, who became the board chief in late 2019, also opened up on his exit and said at an event, "I was the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal for five years. I have been president of BCCI for years. After all these terms, you have to leave and go. As an administrator, you have to contribute a lot and make things better for the team. Me being a player, who was around for a long time, understood it. I enjoyed my time as an administrator thoroughly. You cannot play forever and you cannot remain in administration forever."

There are high hopes from the 67-year-old Roger Binny to take Indian cricket forward as the BCCI chief. Under him, Women's IPL -- which is set to kick off early next year -- and Indian domestic circuit's functioning will mainly be in focus. Roger Binny becomes BCCI's 36th President: All you need to know about 1983 World Cup hero

Early this month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Jasprit Bumrah has officially been ruled out of the T20 World Cup, in Australia. Bumrah, who had missed the Asia Cup 2022 edition due to back issues, was part of the India-Australia home T20Is, in September, before his back concerns re-emerged.

As a result, the 28-year-old Bumrah was ruled out of the ICC event due to a stress back fracture. The board took a lot of time before finally announcing Mohammed Shami, who last played a T20I during the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE, as his replacement. Deepak Chahar was also a strong contender before back injury ruled him out as well. On the other hand, Mohammed Siraj -- who finished with five wickets in the recently-held three ODIs versus South Africa at home -- was also a strong candidate to replace Bumrah but BCCI selectors went ahead with the experienced Shami.

Recently, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar lauded Shami and feels he is an ideal replacement for Bumrah. “Bumrah not being there is a big loss and we obviously needed a strike bowler. An out-and-out genuine fast bowler, who could attack batters and get wickets. Shami has proven that and he seems a good replacement,” Tendulkar told PTI in an exclusive interview.

On Monday (October 17), Rohit Sharma-led India locked horns with hosts Australia in a warm-up encounter, in the run-up to their 2022 T20 WC opening fixture, versus Pakistan on October 23. During the clash, India had to defend their competitive score, 186-7, and successfully managed to do that courtesy of Shami, who came onto bowl on the final over with the Aussies needing 11 for a victory.

Shami returned with 1-0-2-3 and displayed his rhythm from the word go. At the post-match presentation, Rohit said on Shami, "He (Shami) is coming back after a long time, so we wanted to give him an over. Wanted to give him a challenge and let him bowl the final over, and you saw what he did."

Shami is expected to play in India's remaining warm-up tie, versus New Zealand in Brisbane on October 19 (Wednesday) before the main draw of the competition begins on October 22.

T20 World Cup 2022: Team India players stay back to watch Pakistan vs England warm-up game in Brisbane

India and Pakistan are set to lock horns with each other in the main draw of the T20 World Cup, which commences on October 22. The Asian giants will square off on October 23 (Sunday) at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Melbourne. The clash is expected to go down to the wire especially after both sides produced two thrilling contests in the Asia Cup 2022 edition.

In the 2021 T20 World Cup, India and Pakistan were placed in the same group as well (i.e. Pool B). Both sides played each other in their respective opening games in the Super 12 round, where Babar Azam-led Men in Green produced a clinical performance to thrash India by ten wickets. Opting to bowl first, Pakistan rode on Shaheen Afridi's 3 for 31 and Haris Rauf's two-fer to restrict Virat Kohli-led India to 151 for 7 in 20 overs. In reply, Pakistan openers Mohammed Rizwan (79 not out) and skipper Babar (68 not out) stitched a memorable 152-run first-wicket stand as the one-time winners chased down the total with ten wickets and 13 balls to spare, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

After the match, skipper Virat was left baffled by a question from a reporter, who suggested him to have played Ishan Kishan for Rohit Sharma. Ishan had a good run in the warm-up encounter, versus England (scoring a 46-ball 70), but there was no question on Rohit's spot whatsoever. Hence, Kohli was left speechless for a while before he reacted calmly.

Question: Regarding the selection of the team, many people were talking. Ishan Kishan played pretty well in the warm-up match. Do you think that it's a mistake if Ishan Kishan, could play and he could do better than Rohit Sharma?

Virat Kohli: That's a very brave question. What do you think, sir? I played the team that I thought was the best. What is your opinion? Will you drop Rohit Sharma from T20 international? Will you drop Rohit Sharma? Do you know what he did in the last game we played? Unbelievable (laughs). Sir, if you want controversy, please tell me before so I can answer accordingly," he added.

Rohit was dismissed by Shaheen for a golden duck in the India-Pakistan encounter in the 2021 T20 WC. India went onto lose to New Zealand in their next game, where Ishan was roped in and played as an opener with Rohit at No. 3, before winning their last three encounters. Eventually, India bowed out of the showpiece event in the Super 12 round.

This time around, Rohit-led India will enter the T20 WC 2022 edition as the No. 1 ranked side and are expected to reach the semi-finals.

THROWBACK: When Kohli slammed reporter who questioned Rohit's spot after India's T20 WC loss to Pak

Rohit Sharma-led India is set to kick off their campaign in the T20 World Cup 2022 edition with their first game versus arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23 at the iconic MCG, Melbourne. Team India reached Australia for the showpiece event early this month and have already played three warm-up games, with two against Western Australia XI.

Winning two of their three warm-up games, so far, India will meet New Zealand on October 19 (Wednesday) at Brisbane in their last practice game before their opening fixture in the main draw of the tournament. For India, they enter the ICC event as the No. 1 ranked side and have been in form in T20Is since their debacle in last year's edition. The likes of Rohit, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Shami, Suryakumar Yadav, etc. will be crucial to India's chances Down Under.

While the 15-man main squad and reserve list have plenty of match-winners for Team India, here's looking at Men in Blue's star-studded XI featuring players who are not part of the showpiece event Down Under:

India's missed-out XI: Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Venketesh Iyer, Deepak Chahar, Ravindra Jadeja, Umran Malik, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah

The above XI shows the depth of India's squad and the abundance of talent in the Indian camp. The experienced trio of Shikhar Dhawan, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah missed out with the latter two being injured whereas Dhawan has been sidelined from T20Is. The younger lot such as Prithvi Shaw, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan are destined to take over from the likes of KL Rahul, Rohit and Kohli but for now, they didn't find a spot.

Chahar missed out again due to back issues after being named in the reserves. Meanwhile, Samson and Kuldeep are part of the second-stringed white-ball Indian team but weren't considered for the T20 WC. Meanwhile, Venkatesh Iyer went down the pecking order as soon as Hardik Pandya was deemed fully fit in early 2022.

Lastly, Umran has featured in only a handful of T20Is, indicating that he still needs to learn a lot and more exposure to be considered for such a marquee event.

The likes of Rohit, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Shami, Suryakumar Yadav, etc. will be crucial to India's chances Down Under.

From Shikhar Dhawan to Jasprit Bumrah: Star players who are not part of India's T20 World Cup squad

The cricketing fraternity is eagerly waiting for the commencement of the forthcoming T20 World Cup, in Australia. The next year will see another ICC event in men's cricket, with India set to host the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Ahead of the ODI WC, BCCI is in a spot of bother as it could lose big if the central government sticks to its decision to levy a heavy tax surcharge on ICC's broadcast revenue for the showpiece event, to be held later in 2023.

As per the ICC norm, every host nation is needed to obtain tax exemption from the government for hosting tournaments organised by the global body. However, India's tax rules don't allow for such exemptions; putting BCCI in a fix. For hosting the 2016 T20 World Cup, the board incurred a loss of a whopping USD 23.5 million (INR 193 crore). Thus, the BCCI is working hard to bring down the tax surcharge percentage to 10.92 per cent, as opposed to the currently demanded 21.84 per cent.

The BCCI was obligated to deliver a tax exemption or a tax solution to the ICC for this event, latest by April 2022," carried out a report which was circulated among state units prior to the BCCI's upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM), on October 18 in Mumbai.

"This time line was further extended by the ICC Board till 31st May 2022. At the start of this financial year, the BCCI had advised the ICC that in line with the tax order for the 2016 event, it was expected that a 10% (excluding surcharges) tax order could be obtained as an interim measure for the 2023 event within the required time frame.

"The ICC has now received a 20% (excluding surcharges) tax order for its broadcast revenue for the 2023 event from the tax authorities in India."

If the BCCI manages to reduce the tax surcharge, to 10.92 percent, it will still bear a heavy loss; around INR 430 crore (USD 52.23 million).

Harmanpreet Kaur-led India faced Thailand Women in the first semi-final of the Women's Asia Cup 2022 edition, being held in Bangladesh, on Thursday (October 13). Being the favourites, India stormed past Thailand by 74 runs to book a place in the final. After entering the semi-final as the table-toppers in the group stage, with five wins and a solitary loss, India were asked to bat first. Shafali Verma's 28-ball 42 and vital contributions from Jemimah Rodrigues (27), Harmanpreet's 36 (30) and Pooja Vastrakar's 13-ball 17 propelled the Women in Blue to a moderate 148-6, at Sylhet.

It was a chaseable score but the inexperienced Thailand batters only managed a paltry 74 for 9 in their full quota of overs. Thailand were never in the run-chase with skipper Naruemol Chaiwai and Nattaya Boochatham being the highest run-getters, scoring 21 apiece. From India's perspective, the likes of Deepti Sharma (3 for 7) and Rajeshwari Gayakwad (2 for 10) applied pressure from the word go by chipping in with key wickets and giving nothing away easily.

With this result, India storm into the tournament finale and now await the winner of the second semi-final, where Pakistan face Sri Lanka, to lock horns with them in the summit clash on Saturday (October 15). India have lost only to Pakistan in the tournament and will be eager to play them and settle scores in the marquee finale.

At the post-match presentation, skipper Harmanpreet said, "We batted really well, Thailand bowled quite well, not giving us easy runs. We really had to work hard. That partnership (between her and Jemimah) helped us to get a score on the board. When you're not playing a lot, you need runs to get confidence. She (Deepti) is someone who is willing to bowl at any stage. Having such a bowler always gives confidence. When you're getting around 150 on the board more often than not, it gives confidence. Whoever makes it to the final, we'll make plans."

Shafali, who was adjudged the Player-of-the-Match, stated, "Lots of confidence (with the win). Wicket was good to bat, felt good. Smriti and Jemi also did well. We need to look at getting partnerships (regularly). Hope the weather stays good (for the final). I'm more confident about my game now, but will keep working. Always happy to contribute to the team."

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is set to make way for Roger Binny as the 1983 World Cup winning hero is on the cusp of taking over the top post. It is believed that Ganguly was keen to carry on as the BCCI chief but fell out of favour. Reportedly, Ganguly was offered the post of IPL Chairman but the former Indian skipper denied the offer. He was eyeing the ICC Chairman post, however, the board isn't too keen to send him to the ICC as well.

Amid all this, Ganguly finally broke his silence during a recent event. Speaking at a Bandhan Bank event, Ganguly stated that he is now looking to move on to something else.

"I have been an administrator and I will move on to something else," he said at the event. "Whatever you do in life the best days are when you played for India. I have been president of BCCI and I will go on to do bigger things. I never believed in history but the feeling in the past was east lacked talent to play at that level. You don't become an Ambani or Narendra Modi in one day. You have to work for months and years to get there," he further added.

'I will...' - Outgoing BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly breaks silence with Roger Binny all set to succeed him

BCCI is set to host the inaugural edition of the Women's IPL in early 2023. While the itinerary is being readied, it is believed that the first-ever season will kick off in India in March next year, soon after the conclusion of the T20 Women's World Cup and right before the men's IPL. For quite some time, the Women's IPL has been long awaited and the historic tournament is set to get underway next year.

As per a report in Cricbuzz, BCCI is considering a five-team Women's IPL. Unlike in the men's competition, each team will reportedly field as many as five overseas players. Out of the five, four must be from ICC Full Member Nations whereas the remaining one has to be from an Associate Nation.

In addition, BCCI is in talks between two options for selling the IPL franchises: zone wise-North (Dharamsala/Jammu), South (Kochi/Vizag), Central (Indore/Nagpur/Raipur), East (Ranchi/Cuttack), North East (Guwahati) and West (Pune/Rajkot)-with matches to take place at non-IPL venues or existing city-wise as is the case with the men's IPL (Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata-with matches held at IPL venues). Nonetheless, nothing is final in this regard and a final decision will be taken by the IPL chairperson (with the BCCI's current treasurer Arun Dhumal set to take over the post) and the board office bearers in due course of time.

As per reports, a caravan-style itinerary is also being considered for the inaugural edition of the Women's IPL. It means one could see a bunch of matches taking place at a venue before the entire competition will shift to a different venue. IPL 2021 was staged in a similar format, which saw matches being held in Mumbai and Chennai first before the tournament shifted to Delhi and Ahmedabad (prior to the second wave of the Covid-19 virus postponing the tournament and later shifting it entirely to the UAE, in late 2021).

Talking about the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian eves, they have been on a roll in 2022. After missing out on a semi-final spot in the 2022 Women's World Cup by a whisker, India won a silver medal at the CWG'2022 edition and have now booked a place in the Asia Cup, beating Thailand by 74 runs in the first semi-final on Thursday (October 13). BCCI mulling five-team Women's IPL, inaugural season to kick off in March 2023

Team India dealt with a huge blow, early this month, with Jasprit Bumrah being officially ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a back stress fracture. Bumrah was out of the Asia Cup due to back issues as well. While Mohammed Shami or Deepak Chahar were being considered as strong contenders to replace Bumrah at the forthcoming mega event, Chahar has also suffered a back injury, ruling him out of the showpiece event in Australia, which gets underway on October 16.

With Bumrah and Chahar both ruled out, BCCI is sending Md Shami, Mohammed Siraj and fast-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur to Australia, where one of the trio will join the main squad as Bumrah's replacement. Ahead of India's tournament opener, former India head coach Ravi Shastri raised concerns about India's pace battery breaking down regularly.

"It was the most frustrating thing for me as (India coach), when you lose key players to injuries. We toured England and New Zealand twice. On all those tours, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was injured, where he'd have got a bagful of wickets with his skills. Now, you see Chahar has hardly played, and he's injured. I was looking at the stats, Bumrah has played 5 matches since the last T20 World Cup and he's injured. So, you've got to look at it very seriously, as to why it is happening," Shastri told senior journalist Ayaz Memon at a 'Meet-the-media programme' at Mumbai Press Club on Wednesday (October 12).

After Bumrah, Chahar's injury also comes as a huge blow to Rohit Sharma & Co. Given he can also bat lower down the order, his absence will also hurt India's chances. "Deepak will take some time to get fit. His back issue has flared up again. His ankle is fine and there wasn't any problem there. So BCCI is sending three reinforcements, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur," a BCCI official had told PTI on conditions of anonymity after the pacer's injury news came out.

India are playing their second and final warm-up game versus Western Australia XI, at The WACA Perth, on Thursday (October 13). After this, they will play Australia and New Zealand, respectively, in two more warm-up encounters before their T20 WC opening fixture, versus Pakistan on October 23 at the MCG, Melbourne.

Ravi Shastri raises concerns on Indian pace battery's regular injury woes ahead of T20 World Cup

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly was appointed as BCCI chief in late 2019. However, his three-year term is set to end next week with the 1983 World Cup hero Roger Binny to succeed him. After the Supreme Court waved off the three-year cooling-off period clause, Ganguly was a favourite to continue as the BCCI President till 2025. However, the former cricketer was reportedly informed that his stint is set to end after not going as per expectations.

Till Tuesday (October 12), Ganguly didn't give up on his position before being informed during informal meetings that he is set to lose the post. While many hoped Ganguly would contest for the ICC Chairman's position, it seems even that is unlikely to happen as the former Indian skipper isn't the BCCI's choice for the post, as per the Indian Express.

Meanwhile, Jay Shah is expected to continue as the BCCI Secretary whereas treasurer Arun Dhumal is likely to become the IPL Chairman.

As per reports, it seems Ganguly fell out of favour at the BCCI office and didn't hide his displeasure at the office headquarters in Mumbai on Tuesday. He did not suggest Roger Binny's name, the incoming president, which is a normal practice and completely looked out of sorts after failing to retain his position. "He clearly looked upset, disappointed and dejected," said a member present at the BCCI office as per Cricbuzz.

Outgoing BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly unlikely to be backed by board for ICC Chairman's position - Report

India dealt with a huge blow when Jasprit Bumrah was officially ruled out of the T20 World Cup, early this month. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have not officially named his replacement but Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur are set to travel to Australia to join the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team Down Under, prior to the main draw of the mega event.

Nonetheless, former Aussie speedster Brett Lee has backed Umran Malik and feels he should have been part of India's T20 WC squad. "Umran Malik is bowling at 150 km per hour. I mean when you have the best car in the world, and you leave it in the garage, then what's the point of having that car? Umran Malik should have been picked in the Indian squad for the World Cup," Lee told Khaleej Times.

"Yes, he is young, yes, he is raw, but he bowls at 150 kmph, so get him in the team, get him to Australia where the ball flies through. It's different when you have a guy bowling at 140 kmph and a guy who is bowling at 150 kmph," the ex-speedster added.

Umran debuted at the international level after an impressive run in IPL 2022, where he accounted for 22 scalps -- fourth-most overall -- for the one-time winners Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). However, he got only limited chances under his belt for the national side, when the regulars were rested. In three T20Is he has played so far, the the 22-year-old accounted for two scalps at an economy rate of 12.44.

It looks like the Indian team management isn't looking at Umran at the moment and the young pacer will have to remain consistent and needs to work on his line and lengths, without compromising on pace, to cement his place across formats.

'When you've the best car, why leave it in garage?': Brett Lee on Umran Malik's non-selection for T20 WC

Suryakumar Yadav has had a stellar run in 2022. Being India's highest ranked batter in T20Is, the right-hander's form will be vital to India's chances at the 2022 T20 World Cup. The No. 4 batter has so far amassed 801 runs with six half-centuries and a ton at an average of 40.05 and a strike rate of 184.56.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup, which is set to get underway on October 16, former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn lauded Surya and feels he can be 'India's version of AB de Villiers'. Further, he pinned hopes on him to go big at the upcoming showpiece event Down Under.

“He's the kind of player that likes to use the pace of the ball. He likes to get in behind the square. In places like Perth, Melbourne, all of these grounds, there is a little bit of extra pace on it. So, you can use the pace, you can hit on fine leg, behind and all along the carpet. And he's also really good when standing still and getting off the back foot. He has played some amazing back foot cover drives and some beautiful cover drives off the front foot too," Steyn said on Star Sports show 'Cricket Live'.

Aakash Chopra remains one of the most followed and active cricketers on Twitter. Chopra, who represented India in 10 Tests, has always been vocal on various aspects of the gentlemen's game and keeps sharing his opinions on several cricketing topics. After India's seven-wicket win over South Africa in their ongoing home ODIs, on Sunday (October 9), Chopra posted a video on the second and penultimate encounter.

Describing the entire match in a quirky video, Chopra was needlessly trolled by a Twitter user. "Please explain your career too. What is this? How can you talk about cricket? Ganguly, the former Indian captain who led the national side to the 2003 ODI World Cup final, took over as the BCCI President in late 2019. At the time of his appointment, the Bengal Tiger had said in his first address as BCCI chief, "It’s an honour that I have been asked to take this role by the members when it’s a new start for the BCCI. Things need to be brought back in place, reforms need to done, huge amounts of money to be paid to state associations.

“It’s a challenge and I’ll do it the way I know. The way which I feel is best for BCCI with no compromise on credibility, corruption-free and same-for-all BCCI. That’s the way I led India and that’s the way I will take forward this organisation with whatever time I have," he had stated, wearing his India captain’s blazer.

Under Ganguly, BCCI has continued its dominance in world cricket, successfully organising the IPL each year since the advent of Covid-19 virus. The IPL media rights auction was immensely successful, held early this year, whereas Women's IPL is set to kick off early next year. While some pointed fingers at how the domestic cricket was neglected in the tough times due to Covid-19, Ranji Trophy also returned to action after a two-year-hiatus in early 2022.

The BCCI will soon hold electoions for the post of president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary as well as the treasurer.

Roger Binny frontrunner to replace Sourav Ganguly as BCCI president: Report

While Rohit Sharma-led India's T20 World Cup team left for Australia, Shikhar Dhawan's second-string ODI side faced South Africa in the three-match ODI series opener on Thursday (October 7) in Lucknow. In a rain-curtailed ODI, Temba Bavuma's SA were asked to bat first. Quinton de Kock managed a promising 54-ball 48 but the Proteas were reduced to 110/4 before unbeaten fifties from Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller saw them post a competitive 249/4 in the 40-over contest.

In reply, India were on the back foot and reduced to 51-4 before a 37-ball 50 from Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson's unbeaten 86 took India close to the total, managing 240 for 8, losing by nine runs. After the clash, former South African speedster Dale Steyn admitted being nervous when Kagiso Rabada bowled a no-ball on the final ball of the penultimate over as he was aware of Samson's exploits.

"As soon as KG (Kagiso Rabada) bowled that no-ball in the last ball of his over, I was like, 'please don't let this happen'. Because you never know with someone like Sanju, especially with the form that he has got and the belief that he has. I watched him in the IPL, his ability to take down the bowlers and hit boundaries at will, especially in the last two overs of the game, is incredible," Steyn said in the post-match discussion on Star Sports.

"Shamsi was going to bowl the last over and he (Samson) knew he (Shamsi) had a rough day. I was nervous when KG (Rabada) bowled the no ball. Because Sanju is the kind of guy who has the potential of Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh), to hit those six sixes and get the team across the line when it needs 30+," Styen said.

Eventually, India needed a mammoth 30 runs off the last six deliveries of the match after Rabada conceded only seven runs in the 39th over. Samson went big, taking on Tabraiz Shamsi who ended with match figures of 8-0-89-1, and smacked 6,4,4,4 but Dhawan & Co. fell short by nine runs.

At the post-match presentation, Dhawan said, "Quite proud of the way the boys played the game, we didn't get a good start, the way Shreyas, Samson and Shardul batted was excellent. We gave away too many runs on a wicket that swung and spun, the fielding wasn't great, but this was a good learning experience for us."

Rohit Sharma-led India recently left for Australia, after their three T20Is versus South Africa at home, for the upcoming T20 World Cup, starting on October 16. Rohit & Co. will hope to win the title for the first time since the inaugural edition in 2007.

In last year's T20 WC, Virat Kohli-led India bowed out of the mega event in the Super 12 round after defeats at the hands of Pakistan and New Zealand, respectively. Since then, Rohit-Rahul Dravid-led team management were committed to strengthen their back-up options.

As a result, India made a plethora of changes throughout the year while playing the shortest format, especially in the bowling attack. It was done to provide the national selectors with a large pool of players to choose from.

However, former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif took a dig at Team India's constant rotation of players. While speaking on a TV show, Latif was asked if Deepak Hooda's should have been given more chances during India's experimental phase (the all-rounder is part of the T20 WC squad but wasn't preferred on several occasions before missing the last two T20I series due to injury). This, the former keeper-batter made a bold claim.

Latif said, “They keep their main players everywhere and they keep changing their players frequently. 56-57 players khila diye unhone poore saal me, event koi bhi nahi bada jeeta. Ye ek issue hai.”

“Australia and England plan a lot better. Then comes Pakistan,” Latif further asserted.

'India played 56-57 players...' - Ex-Pakistan captain takes a dig at Rohit & Co. before T20 World Cup

On Monday (October 03), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Jasprit Bumrah is officially ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, in Australia. Bumrah will miss the forthcoming showpiece event Down Under due to a back stress fracture. The 28-year-old had earlier also missed the Asia Cup 2022 edition, in the UAE, due to back issues.

It goes without saying that Bumrah's absence will be a huge void to fill for Rohit Sharma-led India, who departed for Australia recently. The premier pacer has been India's go-to-bowler across formats but missed quite a few international games in the ongoing calendar year, due to injuries or being rested at regular intervals. Apart from being rested, the fact that Bumrah featured in all 14 games for Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2022 hasn't been well received by some of the Indian cricket fans. Some section of fans have now accused him of prioritising franchise cricket over national duty after being ruled out of the T20 WC.

The right-arm pacer Bumrah now took to Instagram, on Wednesday (October 05), to share a story where he shared a picture of Winston Churchill’s quote that read: "You will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks."

After Bumrah's omission, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has urged the BCCI selection committee to relook their strategy and add two pacers in his place. In a series of tweets, Chopra said, "Boom( Bumrah) was India’s attacking option that might have allowed for having more defensive options in the squad. Now that he isn’t there, I would be surprised if the selectors/team-management didn’t have a serious rethink about their strategy…Bumrah missed the tour to WI and Asia Cup…and if Shami was indeed the best option to replace Bumrah (in case, he didn’t make it) then he should have been a part of the Asia Cup at the very least. India went with only 3 fast bowlers. And paid for it."

Jasprit Bumrah reacts amid accusations of prioritising franchise cricket over national duty

India will be without Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 edition, in Australia, which kicks off on October 16 with the qualifying round. Rohit Sharma & Co. lost the services of Bumrah for the marquee tournament due to a back stress fracture.

It is to be noted that the 28-year-old Bumrah's back issues had kept him out of action for the Asia Cup 2022 edition as well. With the senior pacer out of action, the BCCI selection committee will have to name his replacement at the earliest, with Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar being the top-two contenders at the moment.

Amid all this, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra took to his official Twitter account and suggested the selectors to 'rethink about their strategy' and add two pacers following Bumrah's ouster.
