The whole cricketing fraternity is hooked onto the IPL 2021 edition at present. However, they are also eagerly waiting for the commencement of the forthcoming T20 World Cup, which will start soon after IPL 14's second and final leg -- i.e. on October 17.

The upcoming seventh edition was set to be held in Australia last year, however, the Covid-19 pandemic led to the tournament's postponement. This time around, the marquee event will be held in the UAE with as many as 16 teams participating in the showpiece tournament. Ahead of the T20 WC, former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif named his tournament-favourites and also opened up on Babar Azam-led Men in Green's chances.

India and England most balanced: Former Pakistan captain names favourites for T20 World Cup 2021

Virat Kohli-led India had a memorable Test series versus England in the United Kingdom, after the WTC final. With Kohli & Co. gaining an unassailable 2-1 lead following their win in the fourth and penultimate Test, the fifth Test was set to give the visitors a chance to win their first-ever Test series on English soil after 2007. However, Covid-19 crisis in the Indian camp led to the series coming to an abrupt ending as the tour got over with the fifth Test being abandoned.

Rohit Sharma, one of India's stars during their 2-1 series lead versus England, has now opened up on the India-England series and made a big statement. Hitman believes India have won the series courtesy their unassailable lead.

"It was a good one (England tou) based on where I was standing in Test cricket before that. But I wouldn't say this was my best. I know my best is yet to come in Test cricket, it was a great tour personally for me. And also for the team. I don't know what has happened in the last Test match, whether we won the series or we are going to play that one-off Test match later. I think in my eyes, we have won the series 2-1. That's how I would like to look at it," Rohit told the press during the launch of Adidas India's ‘IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING’ campaign.

For Rohit, the India-England Tests was another chance to cement his spot as a Test player. The 34-year-old didn't disappoint as he returned as India's leading run-scorer (368 runs) with two half-centuries and also registered his maiden overseas ton.

In this regard, he told, "For me, it was a great challenge and I thought I overcame that challenge well. I did a lot of preparation for that. The 15-20 days after the WTC final, I think I utilised that very well. I understood those small little adjustments and technical changes that one needs to do when playing in England, I managed to do that. I would like to take that confidence and take it forward in my future Test series as well," Rohit added.

Rohit has emphatically turned his Test career ever since he was given the responsibility to open the innings in the purest format. He will like to continue in a similar stead in the next series, when India will host New Zealand after the T20 World Cup.

'We have won the series' - Rohit Sharma makes BIG statement on incomplete India-England Test series

Recently, reports were been doing the rounds that some senior Indian cricketers have been miffed with Virat Kohli's attitude and captaincy style. Some also claimed that the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and R Ashwin had a call with the BCCI secretary Jay Shah after the WTC final in Southampton regarding Kohli.

On Thursday (September 30), BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal shunned the reports completely and was quoted as saying by the TOI, "The media must stop writing this rubbish. Let me say this on the record that no Indian cricketer has made any complaint to the BCCI – writte or verbal. The BCCI can’t keep answering every false report that keeps appearing. The other day, we saw some reports saying there will be changes in India’s World Cup squad. Who said that?"

Now, Ashwin has also reacted sharply to the "fake news" and completely rubbished all such claims. On his Instagram story, the wily off-spinner wrote, "I am searching for the handle 'fake news', it used to be super fun for gossip. Oh Yaaaa!! Thank you guys." In his following story, he added, "Found them: I just heard they renamed themselves and are now called IANS and some others take quotes from them too. Super fun."

While Kohli's captaincy can be criticised by many, he still has an impressive record across formats despite not leading India to an ICC title since taking over fully in early 2017. R Ashwin reacts sharply after rumours of him complaining against Virat Kohli to the BCCI go viral

Virat Kohli's captaincy has been the talk of the town in the cricketing fraternity for quite some time. Under him, India remains a potent force across formats and have excelled in bilateral series. While they have also performed well in ICC events, the 32-year-old hasn't led India to a major title ever since he took over as the full-time captain in early 2017.

Nonetheless, Kohli's captaincy has been under the scanner following India's ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final loss to New Zealand, in mid-2021. While India came back strongly in the preceding England Tests, with a 2-1 unassailable lead in the five Tests before the series came to an abrupt end, there are reports doing the rounds that some senior Indian cricketers have complained about Kohli to the BCCI.

As of now, nothing concrete has emerged out. A report in the New Indian Express mentions that Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara reportedly called up the BCCI secretary Jay Shah following Kohli's post-match comments after the WTC final loss. Back then, Kohli had stated, "If you don't put their bowlers under pressure then they have the fitness and the consistency to bowl long spells and keep bowling all day in the same areas and trouble you, and the more momentum you give them, then invariably they get the breakthroughs they want. The mindset has to be to score runs and find ways to score runs. You can't be too worried about getting out because you are [then] bringing the bowler into the game completely."

In the WTC final, India had fell like nine pins in their second essay -- with Pujara and Rahane perishing for 15 apiece. Hence, it might be the case that Kohli's comments didn't go down well with the two Test specialists. Another Test specialist R Ashwin's name has also cropped up in this matter. As per a report in News18, it is the wily off-spinner who reportedly had a call with the BCCI secretary over Kohli's attitude.

Again, these are all speculations at the moment. However if it turns out to be true, Kohli might also lose out on Test captaincy whereas his ODI leadership skills will be scrutinised after India's performance in the forthcoming T20 World Cup, which will be the superstar cricketer's last assignment as the captain in the shortest format.

Wasim Jaffer wins the internet with his post celebrating 14th anniversary of MS Dhoni-led India's T20 WC win

On this day in 2007, the MS Dhoni-led Team India created history and won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup. While not many had given India any chance for the mega event, who went into the competition with a second-stringed side, Dhoni & Co. defeated Pakistan in a marquee finale to win the championship.

India defeated Pakistan in the group stages (in a riveting bowl-out) and entered the Super Eight. In the second round, the Men in Blue lost to New Zealand but endured a four-match winning streak from thereon to win the tournament, beating England, South Africa (virtual quarter-finals), Australia (in the semi-finals) and the Men in Green, respectively.

Talking about the final, India opted to bat first and posted a healthy 157-5 riding on Gautam Gambhir's 75 and Rohit Sharma's cameo. In response, Pakistan were tottering at 77-6 before Misbah-ul-Haq's fighting half-century brought the game alive. In the last over, Shoaib Malik-led Pakistan needed 13 to win with a wicket in hand. Dhoni gave the ball to inexperienced Joginder Sharma, instead of Harbhajan Singh, and backed him to the core before India scripted history.

The cricketer-turned-DSP Joginder had recalled Dhoni's words and was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times, "Don’t think about the runs that they need, think about your bowling. If you get hit, don’t over-think, just concentrate on the next ball. Whatever is the result, be confident you have my support."

"I got a new identity thanks to this game. I feel proud for having won the game for my country and that our name has been etched in golden words. For any cricketer to be a part of World Cup-winning team is a goal. I was lucky that I was part of the 2007 World T20 team. I feel proud to have won the hearts of the Indians,” he had once said.

What did MS Dhoni tell Joginder Sharma before the riveting last over in T20 World Cup final vs Pakistan? Former pacer reveals

Ravi Shastri-led India have enjoyed much success across formats, however, the national side hasn't won an ICC title as yet. Nonetheless, it goes without saying that Virat Kohli and Shastri-led Indian team has flourished across formats since mid-2017.

Recently, Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) newly-appointed chairman Ramiz Raja -- who was part of the Imran Khan-led Pakistan's victorious 1992 World Cup team -- claimed that Shastri has taken all the good strategies from Pakistan team of the past to help Team India progress ahead.

Speaking to ARY Sports, Raja said that Team India head coach Shastri was always fond of Pakistan cricket of the past. Hence, he believes Kohli & Co. have imbibed all the good strategies of the yesteryear Pakistan team for resounding success.

"Of late, India have adopted all good strategies of Pakistan team. And this was bound to happen as India's head coach Ravi Shastri was always impressed with Pakistan. Ours was a very hard-working and dedicated lot, we used to take players who were less talented to 100%, and we refused to give up. They have changed their model on similar lines, worked a lot on skill, the level of their first-class cricket has significantly improved, which has connected all the dots for them. We have to work on a lot of things in the next 3-4 years to reach there," Raja stated.

For the unversed, Shastri has hinted at not extending his contract as Team India's head coach post the 2021 T20 World Cup, to be held in the UAE after IPL 2021's final leg. It will be an icing on the cake if Shastri and Kohli, who is set to step down as India's T20I captain, lead the Men in Blue to the title in the mega event and end India's 8-year-long ICC-title drought.

Ravi Shastri-led India has adopted all good strategies of Pakistan team from the past: PCB chairman Ramiz Raja

Team India chief coach Ravi Shastri had suggested to Virat Kohli to quit the white ball captaincy altogether, which includes ODIs, and to focus on his batting while continuing to lead the nation in Test cricket, reports said.

According to India Ahead, the suggestion wasn't meant to belittle Kohli but to inspire him to continue as a top batsman in world cricket. But Kohli only opted to relinquish from T20 leadership and ignored Shastri`s advice of also leaving the ODI captaincy.

"The talk about Kohli`s captaincy started after India won the Australian series without their regular captain. It also indicates that Kohli may have to let go the ODI captaincy at some point before the 2023 if things don`t go as planned."

A BCCI official was quoted as saying that, "Shastri had spoken to Kohli around six months ago. But Kohli didn`t listen to Shastri. He is still keen to lead India in ODIs and that is why he only decided to let go the T20 captaincy. Even the board was discussing it as to how Kohli could be utilised more as a batsman. That is because he has a lot left as a player even now."

As Ganguly's biopic has now received the nod by the man himself, here are 4 top sports biopics:

1) Bhaag Milkha Bhaag: Directed by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, the Farhan Akhtar-starrer was critically and commercially successful for covering varied aspects of the great Milkha Singh's life, who died in June 2021. From the partition and its effect on Milkha, his rise as a sprinter to his final race, every aspect was covered and enacted with utmost sincerity. Farhan swept away majority of awards in the year 2013 for his immaculate portrayal. For the unversed, the movie entered Bollywood's much-talked about 100-crore club as well.

Team India to play host to New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies and South Africa in mouth-watering 2022 home season

Ravi Shastri is set to step down as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. He has hinted that he will not seek an extension of his contract after his tenure ends at the conclusion of the Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman this year in November.

"I believe one thing – never overstay your welcome. And I would say that, in terms of what I wanted to get out of the side, I've over-achieved," Shastri said in an interview with The Guardian.

On being asked about the right time for him to leave, he said, "I believe so because I've achieved all I wanted. Five years as No 1 [in Test cricket], to win in Australia twice, to win in England. I spoke to Michael Atherton earlier this summer and said: 'For me, this is the ultimate – to beat Australia in Australia and win in England in Covid times.' We lead England 2-1 and the way we played at Lord’s and the Oval was special."

"We've also beaten every country in the world in their own backyard in white-ball cricket. If we win the [T20] World Cup that will be the icing on the cake. There is nothing more. To beat Australia away and to lead the series in England in a Covid year? It is the most satisfying moment of my four decades in cricket," Shastri added.

Since replacing Anil Kumble in mid-2017, Shastri, 59, has overseen two Test series victories in Australia, although the side crashed out in the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup in England.

The move comes just days after Virat Kohli decided to step down as India's Twenty20 captain following the 20-overs World Cup beginning next month, and Shastri reckoned it would be the right time for him to step aside as well.

BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly lauds 'true asset' Virat Kohli as he announces decision to quit T20I captaincy after World Cup

On Thursday (September 16), Virat Kohli dropped a bomb by announcing his decision to step down as Team India's T20I captain after the upcoming T20 World Cup, in the UAE. With his decision, it has started a new discussion as to who will succeed Kohli in the shortest format.

While the 34-year-old Rohit Sharma seems like an obvious successor, who also had 5 IPL titles as Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper, some feel BCCI can invest in a young captain with Rohit-Kohli backing and grooming him to the core. However, former cricketer Madan Lal feels Hitman Rohit has emerged as a natural successor and can also become the ODI captain with good results as a T20I skipper.

"I don't think there will be any discussion about someone else's name because I think Rohit Sharma will become T20I captain. His performances in IPL as Mumbai Indians captain has been very good. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has spoken about the roadmap. In that case, Rohit Sharma was the vice-captain, he has a lot of experience having been Kohli's deputy," Madan Lal told AajTak.

He further asserted, "I don't think there will be any discussion on that. But we have to see whether the selectors will discuss a 50-over captain. Till now, Virat Kohli has led well in ODIs and Tests. He hasn't won an ICC title but he has won helped build strong bench strength. It depends on how Rohit Sharma performs. If he does well in T20 World Cup (next year), then there will be a discussion about him in the selection meeting. It is possible that if he produces good results, he can also be made captain of the 50-over format," he added.

Virat Kohli announced his decision to resign as India's T20I captain after the forthcoming World Cup in the shortest format, to be held in the UAE from October 17. While his decision surprised many in the cricketing fraternity, the 32-year-old Kohli has revealed that he wants to get rid of some responsibilities and concentrate on his batting, while leading the national side in Test and ODIs.

Irfan Pathan, India's former all-rounder, reacted to the development and has a valid question up his sleeves. While Pathan lauded Kohli for his leadership in T20Is -- leading India to away series wins in New Zealand, England, South Africa, Australia -- the cricketer-turned-commentator questioned the timing of his decision.

"The timing of the announcement has definitely surprised me because you normally take such calls after a tournament. I wonder what will happen if we go to win the T20 World Cup,” said the former India all-rounder.

“He has been a wonderful leader and we have seen what he can do in Test cricket in terms of leadership. There will obviously be questions of him not winning ICC tournaments, but I am sure he has taken the decision after a lot of thought. It is not an easy decision for anyone, but I hope that for the legacy of Virat, we win this World Cup. I hope he can finish it in style by winning the title,” he added.

Irfan Pathan asks a valid question as Virat Kohli set to resign as T20 captain after World Cup

Ravi Shastri is unlikely to continue as Team India head coach post the conclusion of the upcoming T20 World Cup, in the UAE. Shastri had taken over as India's full-time coach after Anil Kumble in mid-2017 and the team has enjoyed great success under him across formats. However, it has been reported that the former all-rounder isn't willing to renew his contract, which ends with India's campaign in the T20 World Cup.

For the unversed, Shastri's contract was extended post the 2019 ODI World Cup. However, as per a report in News18, he has already conveyed his decision to the Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI that he isn't willing to extend his contract this time around. Thus, the BCCI will send fresh applications for the post following his departure. Meanwhile, the contracts of bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar are also unlikely to be renewed, however, batting coach Vikram Rathour is expected to continue with his job.

Under Shastri, India reached the semi-finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup, ended as runners-up in the inaugural WTC and beat Australia twice in their own backyard in the last two editions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India also ended the England Tests, although abruptly, with a 2-1 lead under his tenure in the United Kingdom recently.

Some big names are expected to join the race to be India's next head coach post Shastri's departure. Many former cricketers and majority of Indian cricket fans want Rahul Dravid to replace Shastri. Ravi Shastri is unlikely to continue as Team India head coach post the conclusion of the upcoming T20 World Cup, in the UAE. Shastri had taken over as India's full-time coach after Anil Kumble in mid-2017 and the team has enjoyed great success under him across formats.

ALSO READ | Will Rahul Dravid replace Ravi Shastri as Team India coach? Ravi Shastri set to resign as Team India head coach after T20 World Cup, BCCI to invite applications: Report

The India-England Tests proved to a high-voltage affair and the five-match series was set for a terrific finale, at Old Trafford, Manchester, when the tour got cancelled in the wake of Covid-19 crisis in the Indian camp. With the majority of India's support staff testing positive for Covid-19, India couldn't field an XI for the fifth and final Test and had to back out at the last moment.

Despite being 2-1 up in the series, Kohli & Co. were heavily criticised for their decision to cancel the tour ahead of the final Test, with many saying that the players didn't want to jeopardise IPL 14's UAE leg. Since then, not many cricketers have opened up on what happened in Manchester and the circumstances which led to the visitors cancelling the tour.

Shardul Thakur has now finally broken his silence and told in an interview with Indian Express, "I heard someone whispering about it and the general feeling was what will happen next. As the match was on, everyone was focused on the game. It was the first time we were without our main support staff."

"They used to call us at the end of the day. I spoke to Bharat Arun Sir, he spoke about what kind of line and length I can bowl. If they had any points they used to tell us after the game," he further explained.

"We were worried about what will happen, who will be infected since Parmar had treated everyone. We didn’t know how things would go ahead because tracking this infection is next to impossible. The next four-five days were vulnerable for us because there was fear that it could happen to me or it could happen to anyone. Everyone was worried about their and their family’s health," the pacer added.

For the unversed, India's head coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar had contracted the virus, after which physios Nitin Patel and Yogesh Parmar also tested positive; prompting Team India to back out before the final Test despite them having a chance to win their first-ever Tests on English soil after 2007.

As of now, ICC is yet to decide on the fate of the final Test at Manchester. It might be played next year during India's white-ball tour of England, as a continuation of the 2021 series or a one-off Test. The final decision remains awaited.

Shardul Thakur reacts as Team India draw criticism for cancelled Manchester Test vs England

Pakistan haven't had much success versus Team India in ICC events. To date, they are yet to beat India in the ODI and T20 World Cup. However, the Men in Green remain ahead of India, by 3-2, in the Champions Trophy face-offs. Thus, Babar Azam & Co. will look to replicate their 2017 Champions Trophy final performance versus Virat Kohli's India when both the sides meet in the forthcoming T20 World Cup, in the UAE from October 19.

For the unversed, India and Pakistan are set to lock horns on October 24, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, as both sides are in the same group (Pool 2) in the showpiece event. Ahead of the marquee clash, pacer Hasan Ali feels Pakistan can beat India and they will look at their 2017 CT final heroics as an inspiration.

"When we won the Champions Trophy (in 2017), it was a very good time for us and we will try to beat them again in the T20 World Cup. We will give our best. Playing against India is always a pressure game because of the expectations of fans from both countries," Hasan Ali said on Wednesday (September 14) as per a report in India Today.

"Even those people who don't normally watch cricket follow the India vs Pakistan matches, so the pressure on the players is high but we will give it our best," he added.

It is important to note that Hasan was one of the star-performers for Pakistan in the CT'17 final versus India (returning with 3 for 19). Thus, he will look to replicate the same this time around when India-Pakistan lock horns in the forthcoming World Cup.

India and Pakistan's group also comprise New Zealand, Afghanistan and two other teams who will join from the qualifiers.

BCCI announced a 15-man squad for Virat Kohli-led Team India's forthcoming T20 World Cup on September 8. While the squad features some surprise inclusions and few notable omission, R Ashwin's comeback has surely made heads turn.

For the unversed, the 34-year-old Ashwin wasn't favoured in the limited-overs squad since mid-2017. However, with Yuzvendra Chahal's dip in form and Washington Sundar's injury, Ashwin was preferred for the T20 WC. Though Ashwin's record in T20 WC is exceptional, with 20 wickets in 15 innings, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar feels it is just a consolation for his England Tests snub.

Ashwin didn't feature in the four Tests versus England, in the United Kingdom, and Gavaskar feels his inclusion is just a consolation as he might still find it tough to find a place in the line-up.

"Ashwin's return is a good thing but we'll have to wait and see if he gets a place in the playing XI. You have selected him in the 15, that's alright, you chose him in the squad in England as well but are not giving him the chance in the XI,” Gavaskar said on Sports Tak. "So, he’s perhaps just given a consolation cup to make up for the disappointment that he might have here (in England). Will he play in the XI? Only time will tell,” he added.

Apart from Ashwin, MS Dhoni was also included in the T20 WC squad as a team mentor. On the former Indian captain's return to the Indian dressing room, Gavaskar said, "MS Dhoni being the mentor is bigger news than Ashwin's selection because a captain, who led India to the 2011 World Cup and 2007 T20 World Cup wins, if he's in that camp, then India will immensely benefit from it."

Deepak Chahar is gearing up for IPL 2021's second and final leg, where he will once again represent the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise. The 29-year-old was last seen in action on the cricket field for Team India during their limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka in July.

India's second-stringed team had travelled to Sri Lanka, with Rahul Dravid and Shikhar Dhawan acting as the stand-in head coach and captain, respectively. While his tour was cut-short after the T20I series opener, being one of the close contacts of Covid-positive Krunal Pandya, Chahar accounted for 6 scalps, in 3 matches, and made a match-winning contribution with an unbeaten 69 in the Men in Blue's second and penultimate ODI versus the Islanders.

Recalling a hilarious interaction which he had with Dravid during the SL trip, Chahar told Aakash Chopra in a recent interaction on his Youtube channel, "When we reached Sri Lanka, Rahul (Dravid) sir first asked me about my age. I told him I am 28 and will turn 29 soon. So, he was like - ‘is it your original age or cricketer’s age?’. Then I told him that mine is original because my father was in the Air Force, so there was no way I could forge my age!"

Deepak Chahar - An ideal Test all-rounder?

“On a serious note, he (Dravid) also told me that I have 4-5 years of Test cricket left in me. Those words have stayed with me. He has always considered me as a Test bowler and has selected me for red-ball matches for India A. Whenever I have played under him, I have always performer well with both bat and ball. He knows my capability very well," Chahar told Chopra.

Currently, Chahar is preparing hard for the IPL 2021's UAE leg, which commences from September 19 at Dubai. He is also named in the reserves list for India's T20 World Cup campaign.

Original age or cricketer's age? Deepak Chahar recalls hilarious conversation with Rahul Dravid during Sri Lanka tour

When BCCI announced Team India's 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, in the UAE, there were some surprise additions and notable omissions. However, the biggest talking point became former captain MS Dhoni's inclusion as the team mentor for the showpiece event.

Dhoni, who retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, has been roped in as team mentor for the marquee tournament to help Kohli & Co. during the high-voltage event and guide the national side to their first ICC title win in over 8 years. For the unversed, Team India's last ICC trophy came in the 2013 Champions Trophy under Dhoni's leadership.

Under Kohli, India have performed exceedingly well across formats and in the last three ICC events, however, they haven't managed to win big tournaments in the recent past. Hence, Dhoni has been added to work closely with Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri. Since his appointment, many former cricketers have shared their thoughts on him taking over as the team mentor.

In this regard, former cricketer Farokh Engineer also revealed what he feels seeing Dhoni as the team mentor, while speaking to Sports Tak. "But why not? IPL has mentors. Dhoni has always and still has got the Midas touch and whatever he has touched has turned into gold. I would hope that Dhoni brings us extra luck and I'm sure his knowledge would be extremely useful," Engineer was quoted as saying.

"What does a mentor do? It's an honorary thing. Sachin Tendulkar is the mentor of Mumbai Indians. And it’s lovely to have guys like him and Sachin around. In our time, once you give up the game, people forgot us. But today, fans do not forget. If you're a good and attractive cricketers, fans will always remember you," he added.

The former Indian wicketkeeper feels that Captain Cool's experience will certainly be a great inspiration to the Men in Blue and is content with BCCI's decision to use his experience and stature. "At this level, players are not coached. A coach can help you and guide you just a little bit – somethings here and there or on some technical aspects," he further opined. Engineer added, "Dhoni is not the type to interfere with something or somebody. If he sees that something could be done better, I'm sure he would suggest it in a very clever way to Ravi and Virat."

It will be interesting to see Dhoni's return back to the Indian dressing room and if his presence will prove to be the difference for Kohli & Co. India start their campaign on October 24 versus Pakistan. They are placed in Group 2, along with the Men in Green, New Zealand, Afghanistan and two more teams who will join post the qualifiers.

'MS Dhoni still has got....' - Farokh Engineer opines on why BCCI named former captain as Team India's mentor for T20 WC

Virat Kohli's batting struggles have been known to world cricket by now. The 32-year-old Kohli hasn't scored an international ton since late 2019. Since then, the Indian captain has crossed the fifty-run mark on several occasions across formats, but he hasn't converted any of them into a daddy hundred.

Amid his dip in form, many former cricketers and experts are of the opinion that it is time to see split-captaincy in Team India, with Kohli making way for Rohit Sharma in the shorter formats and rediscovering his form overall. However, former Indian skipper Kapil Dev feels Kohli's lean phase isn't due to captaincy pressure.

"For all these years, when he was scoring runs, no one said anything about captaincy affecting Virat's batting and now suddenly, there are opinions when there's been a little up and down in his graph. When he scored those double centuries and so many hundreds, wasn't there pressure then? It means that his captaincy should not be the focus. Instead, look at his ability," Kapil said on 'Uncut'.

"The graph has surely gone up and down but for how long? Age 28 to 32 is the time when you really blossom. He is now experienced and mature. If he returns to his old form, Virat will not only score a century or double ton; he will give you 300. He is so much mature now and there is no shortage of fitness when it comes to Kohli. He just needs to identify himself and look to score big," he added.

Despite much success in bilateral series across formats, Captain Kohli is facing the heat for not leading India to any ICC title since taking over as full-time captain in early 2017. In addition, his scratchy form hasn't helped his case in recent times. If he can lead India to the T20 World Cup title, courtesy some sparking performances with the bat, Kohli will silence his critics in style.

Virat Kohli's dip in form isn't because of captaincy pressure, feels former skipper Kapil Dev

Many former cricketers have lashed out at India's Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane for his struggles and inconsistency. For the unversed, Rahane averages only 19.86 since his Melbourne Test ton, in late 2020. In addition, the 33-year-old has only one fifty-plus score in the last ten innings and was woefully out of form in the England Tests in the United Kingdom.

With India set to play the T20 World Cup, soon after IPL 14's second and final leg, and then to host New Zealand in two Tests in November, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has backed Rahane to feature in the home assignments, but has set an ultimatum for the senior batsman.

Bold claim by Virender Sehwag

Speaking on a discussion on Sony Sports Network, Sehwag said, "Everyone goes through a bad phase. The question is how you behave with your player in a bad phase, whether you back him or leave him. According to me, Ajinkya Rahane should get a chance when the next series happens in India. If he doesn't perform there, you can say - thank you very much for your contribution."

Bold claim by Virender Sehwag Speaking on a discussion on Sony Sports Network, Sehwag said, "Everyone goes through a bad phase. The question is how you behave with your player in a bad phase, whether you back him or leave him. According to me, Ajinkya Rahane should get a chance when the next series happens in India. If he doesn't perform there, you can say - thank you very much for your contribution." India and Pakistan's cricketing ties are now limited to ICC or multi-nation events. It has been the case ever since the political relationship between the two neighbouring countries went downhill. With Ramiz Raja taking over as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)'s chairman, one of the first questions he was asked post his joining was whether there is a possibility to resume Indo-Pak bilateral cricketing ties.

Ramiz said in a press conference, "Impossible right now. The sporting model has been spoiled by politics and right now it is a status quo and we are not in a hurry on this issue because we have to focus on our domestic and local cricket."

India and Pakistan's senior men's cricket team last locked horns with each other during the 2019 ODI World Cup, in England and Wales. Back then, Virat Kohli-led India thrashed Pakistan by 89 runs (DLS method) and haven't met each other since then. Both teams will, however, square off in the upcoming T20 World Cup, in the UAE, as they are placed in the same group (Group 2).

The high-voltage clash will be held at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on October 24 (Friday). While spectators do turn up in large numbers to witness the rivalry in the stadium, with many also glued to their television sets worldwide, the whole cricket fraternity is desperately waiting for the revival of Indo-Pak cricketing ties in bilateral series as well. However, it seems as a distant dream at present.

Will bilateral cricket ties resume between India and Pakistan? PCB chairman Ramiz Raja gives big update

Split captaincy has been a topic of debate in Team India, especially after Virat Kohli failed to guide the Men in Blue to the ODI World Cup title in 2019. After India failed in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final as well, talks were rife that Kohli should be relieved of captaincy in the limited-overs format for him to focus on his batting across all forms of the game and take the Test side forward.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup, there are reports that suggest Kohli is willing to give up captaincy in white-ball format to his deputy Rohit Sharma. "Virat himself will make the announcement. He is of the view that he needs to concentrate on his batting and go back to becoming what he’s always been — the best batsman in the world,” TOI quoted sources as saying.

"Captaincy in 3 formats affecting Virat’s batting. We realise spin-masters will be at work, giving their own twists to these developments. That’s the reason BCCI is planning this well in advance. In the end, Virat and Rohit are on the same page. If he had to ever take over as white-ball captain, that time is now. And it’s going to be a win-win for the Indian team because the two senior cricketers are so well in tune with each other,” the source added.

For the unversed, Kohli's limited-overs captaincy has been under the scanner for sometime now. He led India to the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy and the semi-finals of 2019 ODI World Cup, but the national side returned without a title in the two marquee events. Moreover, Rohit's superior record as an IPL captain (leading Mumbai Indians to 5 IPL trophies) have always seen many former cricketers favouring him over Kohli as captain in the shorter formats.

Rohit Sharma likely to replace Virat Kohli as Team India's limited-overs captain post T20 World Cup: Reports

On Monday (September 13), BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal has dismissed all rumours of Rohit Sharma set to take over as India's white-ball captain from Virat Kohli. The BCCI treasurer has made it clear that Hitman won't take over as the captain in the shorter formats post the T20 World Cup, in the UAE.

There was a report, in Times of India, which claimed that Kohli is willing to step down from the top spot in the limited-overs format and has already informed the team management and Rohit about his decision. However, Dhumal reacted to the rumours and has put an end to the speculations.

"This is all rubbish. Nothing (as) such is happening. This is all what you guys (media) are talking about. BCCI has not met or discussed anything on this issue (split captaincy)," Dhumal told IANS. "Virat will remain as the captain (of all formats)," the BCCI treasurer was quoted as saying by IANS.

Since India failed to win the 2019 ODI World Cup, in England and Wales, Kohli's captaincy has been under the scanner especially in the shorter formats. So far, the 32-year-old has led India in two ICC events in white-ball cricket but the Men in Blue returned without a trophy despite playing very well. Split captaincy debate surfaced once again after Kohli & Co. failed to win the inaugural WTC final, versus New Zealand, in mid-June in Southampton. Back then, many thought Kohli can give up limited-overs captaincy and take the team further ahead in the purest format of the game.

While Dhumal has completely denied all reports of Rohit to serve as captain in the white-ball formats, the topic might once again gain precedence if Kohli fails to guide India to the title in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Ravi Shastri's tenure as Team India head coach will end soon after the T20 World Cup. Shastri came into the picture as a full-time head coach in mid-2017, replacing Anil Kumble, and has led India to various victories across formats along with captain Virat Kohli.

With Shastri's contract coming to an end after the marquee event and reports suggesting that the former cricketer isn't willing to extend his contract, some big names are expected to join the race to become Team India's head coach. Among them, Rahul Dravid is being considered as the strongest contender to replace Shastri.

For the unversed, Dravid also served as the stand-in head coach of a second-stringed Indian team during their Sri Lanka tour in late July. Thus, BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly shared a big update on whether Dravid is in-line to replace Shastri post the T20 WC in the UAE.

"I understand he’s not interested (in the job) on a permanent basis.… But we haven’t asked him about it specifically. We will see when we come to it," Ganguly told The Telegraph.

The ardent Indian cricket fans are desperate to see Dravid take over from Shastri. The current National Cricket Academy (NCA) head Dravid has coached India A and the U-19 side in the past, from 2016-2019. Under his coaching, Prithvi Shaw-led India won the U-19 World Cup in 2018. It will be interesting to see if the former Indian captain gives his nod to serve as India's head coach post following Shastri's tenure.

MS Dhoni was appointed as Team India's mentor for the T20 World Cup on Wednesday evening (September 8). Virat Kohli-led Men in Blue's 15-man squad had some surprise inclusions and notable omissions, however, the former Indian captain's return to the Indian dressing room, in a new role, created huge buzz on social media platforms.

Reacting on Dhoni's appointment and how it will benefit Team India in the marquee event, which will commence from October 19 in the UAE, former and tainted captain Salman Butt said on his Youtube channel, "MS Dhoni has dealt with pressure and is someone who has won a lot for his country. Dhoni played a major role in developing India’s current mindset. Under him, India have won the T20 World Cup and the 50-over World Cup as well. So, his presence will inspire the team a lot. Throwback: Did you know? MS Dhoni was dropped from Team India's T20I squad in 2018

Team India's 15-man squad was announced on Wednesday evening (September 8) for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli & Co. will start their campaign on October 24 versus arch-rivals Pakistan, on October 24, whereas the showpiece event will kick off from October 17 in the UAE.

Kohli-led Indian squad have a good mix of youngsters as well as experienced campaigners but the biggest surprise was the inclusion of MS Dhoni. The former Indian captain, who retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, will act as the team's mentor for the marquee event. His calmness, experience and tactical acumen will come in handy for the Men in Blue as they gear up to win their second T20 World Cup title, and first-ever ICC trophy since 2013.

Following Dhoni's inclusion as a mentor, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar termed the appointment as 'good news' but also shared one small apprehension which the role might create. "Under his leadership, India won the 2011 World Cup and four years before that, India won the 2007 T20 World Cup. It's definitely going to benefit Team India," said Gavaskar on Aaj Tak.

The former Indian opener, however, took an example of when he was appointed a consultant for India in 2004. "At the time, (then-head coach) John Wright was a bit nervous, he probably thought I was going to take his place. But Ravi Shastri knows that MS Dhoni has very little interest in coaching. Ravi Shastri and MS Dhoni, if the partnership goes well, India will benefit a great deal from it," Gavaskar opined.

He further added, "But if there are disagreements over tactics and team selection, then there might be bit of an effect on the team. But MS Dhoni's appointment itself will be a big boost for Team India. He has so much experience, he knows everything. There was no bigger, destructive player than MS Dhoni when he was active in international cricket. MS Dhoni's appointment is good news for India but I am just praying there is no clash. But if Ravi Shastri and MS Dhoni can get on the same wavelength, then it's big news for India."

Dhoni has been one of the most decorated Indian cricketers ever. He amassed over 17,266 international runs, accounted for 195 stumpings, 359 sixes, 634 catches, won several games as a finisher and power-hitter and led India to all three major ICC titles. Fans are pinning hopes on the 40-year-old to contribute once again, this time as a mentor, to help India end their 8-year-long ICC title drought.

There was no bigger, destructive player than MS Dhoni when he was active in international cricket. MS Dhoni's appointment is good news for India but I am just praying there is no clash. But if Ravi Shastri and MS Dhoni can get on the same wavelength, then it's big news for India." Dhoni has been one of the most decorated Indian cricketers ever.

'MS Dhoni's appointment is good news but....' - Sunil Gavaskar reacts as former captain named India's mentor for T20 World Cup

India's 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup got announced on Wednesday evening (September 8). BCCI Secretary Jay Shah made the announcement of the squad, which comprises several big names, some notable omissions and few surprise entries.

Among the surprise entries, R Ashwin's name tops the list. For the unversed, Ashwin hasn't played a limited-overs game for Team India since 2017 and, thus, his addition left many pleasantly surprised. His numbers in the T20 World Cup, coupled with his recent IPL success, tilted the equation in his favour especially after Washington Sundar's injury.

Ashwin has a total of 20 wickets in 15 innings in T20 WCs, at a strike-rate of 16.2. The 34-year-old, who is currently part of the Test squad that is playing against England in ongoing five Tests, shared a motivational quote which keeps him going amid tough times and revealed how grateful he is for the opportunity presented. He wrote, “I wrote this quote down a million times in my diary before putting this up on the wall! Quotes that we read and admire have more power when we internalise them and apply in life. Happiness and gratitude are the only 2 words that define me now. "Every tunnel has light at the end of it but only those in the tunnel who believe in the light will live to see it,” read the quote in a picture shared by the experienced spinner.
