T20 World Cup: MS Dhoni's inclusion as Team India's mentor sends netizens into a meltdown on Twitter

India's former captain and current BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly has confirmed his biopic is on the cards. The news regarding a feature film being made on the former Team India skipper was doing the rounds for quite a while. On Thursday (September 9), the 49-year-old announced that his biopic will be out soon and is set to be produced by Luv Films.

Ganguly took to his official Instagram handle to share the development with one and all. He penned a heartfelt note on the gentlemen's game and how it has contributed in his growth and stature. He wrote, "Cricket has been my life, it gave confidence and ability to walk forward with my head held high, a journey to be cherished. Thrilled that Luv Films will produce a biopic on my journey and bring it to life for the big screen."

On the other hand, Luv Films -- the production house founded by filmmaker Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg -- also shared the film announcement on Instagram. "We are thrilled to announce that Luv Films will produce Dada Sourav Ganguly's biopic," the statement read. "We are honoured to be entrusted with this responsibility and look forward to a great innings," the producers further said.

On Wednesday (September 8), BCCI announced a 15-man squad for Virat Kohli-led Team India for the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to be held in the UAE after IPL 14's final leg. The biggest surprise came in the form of MS Dhoni being included as a team mentor despite his international retirement on August 15, 2020.

Dhoni, who had led India to the title in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, has been an exceptional servant of Indian cricket. Apart from his batting, finishing, keeping and power-hitting skills, the 40-year-old also led India to all three major ICC titles. Thus, his experience and presence in the Indian dressing room will come in handy for Kohli & Co.

After Dhoni's name was included as a team mentor, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer hilariously reacted to the ex-captain's new role in Team India. Jaffer took to his official Twitter handle and reacted in the following manner:

Virat Kohli-led India are having a great time in the ongoing five-match Test series versus England in the United Kingdom. After the end of the fourth and penultimate Test, India have an unassailable 2-1 lead and will go for the kill, i.e. a series win, in the fifth and final Test which commences from September 10 (Friday) at Old Trafford, Manchester.

If Kohli & Co. win the Test series in England, it will be Team India's first-ever since the 2007 tour. Talking about the 2018 tour, Kohli & Co. had given a tough fight to Joe Root-led England but fizzled out in the end to lose the five Tests 4-1. Following the end of the final Test, at The Oval, London, Kohli had a heated interaction with a journalist and snapped him who questioned if India 'is the best team in the last 15 years'.

"The Best Indian team in the last 15 years! Do these tags put pressure on you? Do you actually believe you are?", the reporter asked during the post-match press conference of the fourth Test. To this, the skipper replied saying, "We have to believe we are the best side. Why not?" Not being convinced, the journalist once again repeated his point and said, "The best team in 15 years?" When Kohli questioned the reporter with the same question, he replied, “I am not sure." "You're not sure? That is your opinion. Thank you," said Kohli in a firm tone to end the conversation.

Talking about the ongoing Tests, India will be firm favourites to win the series when the final Test begins on September 10. The visitors won the fourth Test by 157 runs in defence of 368.

Throwback: When Virat Kohli snapped at a journalist over 'best Indian team in 15 years' query

Shikhar Dhawan and wife Ayesha Mukherjee have filed for divorce after 8 years of marriage. The Indian cricketer's wife confirmed the development on Instagram on Tuesday (September 7).

Ayesha, who hails from West Bengal but settled in Australia when she was 8, wrote on Instagram, " I THOUGHT DIVORCE WAS A DIRTY WORD UNTIL I BECAME A 2 TIME DIVORCEE.

"Funny how words can have such powerful meanings and associations. I experienced this first hand as a divorcee. The first time I went through a divorce I was soooooooo fu@kn scared. I felt like I had failed and I was doing something so wrong at that time.

"I felt as if I had let everyone down and even felt selfish. I felt that I was letting my parents down, I felt that I was letting my children down and even to some extent I felt as if I was letting God down. Divorce was such a dirty word.

"So now imagine, I have to go through it a second time. Woooahhhhhh. That is terrifying. Being divorced once before already, felt like I had more at stake the second time round. I had more to prove. So when my second marriage broke down it was really scary. All the feelings I felt when I went through it the first time came flooding in. Fear, failure and disappointment x 100. What does this mean for me? How does this define me and my relationship to marriage?

So, once I realised this I started to redefine the word and the experience of divorce according to the way I wanted to see it and experience it," Ayesha poured her heart out on the social media platform.

Team India opener Shikhar Dhawan parts ways with wife Ayesha Mukherjee after 8 years of marriage

Jasprit Bumrah was one of the stars for Team India in their terrific 157-run win over England on Day 5 of the fourth and penultimate Test at The Oval, London on Monday (September 6).

Joe Root-led England resumed the day being well-placed at 77 for no loss in pursuit of 368. From 100 for no loss, England went to lunch at 131-2. While India didn't give away easy runs, they did manage only two wickets in the first session of the final day's play before things changed drastically post the lunch break. Ravindra Jadeja removed Haseeb Hameed (63) which started England's downfall. However, Jasprit Bumrah did an exceptional job from his end, bowling toe-crushing yorkers and his reverse swing being unplayable for the English batters.

Bumrah accounted for the dismissals of Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow, which further pushed Joe Root & Co. on the back foot before Umesh Yadav's 3-fer led to England being all-out for 210 in 92.2 overs, losing the Test by 157 runs.

Bumrah, thus, played his part and revealed after the match how he came forward and stood tall with his crucial breakthroughs.

The pacer revealed his chat with captain Virat Kohli post the lunch break. "It's obviously very important to create pressure and we thought it's an important phase. So, I went up to him and told him that I think we should start well and try to create some pressure. So, that was the intention behind it and we're very happy to get this result," said Bumrah after the match.

"A lot of effort went into this win. All the bowlers contributed with the bat, as well as with the ball so very happy for all of them. Really happy with it and hopefully we will carry the momentum into the next match as well," he added.

"The mindset after the lunch break was that we needed to create a lot of pressure and needed to start really well. If you give a lot of runs and the momentum goes away, suddenly you come under pressure and you don't want to play catchup in that situation. So, I was of that mindset that if we start well and create enough pressure, any result is possible. We had a lot of belief and we wanted to run on that belief. I think it worked out well. Obviously, the wicket was on the flatter side and it requires a lot of patience and control, so we wanted to exhibit that and give it our all. In that moment, my mindset is that if I've given it all that I've got, win or lose, I'll accept the result."

“So that is my mindset, regardless of wherever I go and play cricket and that is something I look to carry in the future as well,” he further asserted.

After the fourth Test win, India have an unassailable 2-1 lead and will look for a series victory when the fifth and final Test commences from September 10 (Friday), at Old Trafford, Manchester.

After the win, an elated Kohli told at the post-match presentation ceremony, " I am proud of the character shown by the team, this is amongst the top three bowling performances I have witnessed as India captain. The bowlers were good with the reverse swing today. We believed we could get all 10 wickets, we had the belief. As soon as the ball started reversing, Bumrah said give me the ball. He bowled that spell and swung the game in our favour with those two huge wickets. I think you pointed his performance. Rohit's innings was fantastic. What Shardul has done in this game stands out. His two fifties deflated the opposition. I think he batted well in both the innings. We never go towards analysis, statistics and numbers. We know what we need to focus on and we take a collective decision as a group (on the playing XI).

From thereon, there was no looking back for the wicketkeeper-batsman, who made a name for himself through his astute leadership, brilliant reflexes behind the stumps, big-hitting and finishing abilities along with being a handy batsman in Tests. Dhoni remains a big name in the cricketing fraternity despite retiring from the gentlemen's game, at the highest level, on August 15, 2020. Courtesy his resounding success for Team India and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL, the 40-year-old remains one of the richest cricketers ever.
India and England have been engaged in a pulsating contest in the fourth and penultimate Test at the picturesque Kennington Oval, London. After four days of cricket, all three results are possible on Day 5, which promises to be an enthralling affair between two top sides in world cricket.

Day 4 of the penultimate Test commenced with Team India resuming their second innings from 270-3, leading by 171 runs. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja started from where they had left after early stumps on Day 3. While Jadeja looked set, he departed for 17 whereas vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane (0) continued to disappoint.

Kohli also fell for a good-looking 44 with India's lead being only 213 runs at that time. However, Rishabh Pant (50), Shardul Thakur (60) and valuable contributions from Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah took India to 466 all-out, setting up a challenging 368-run target for the hosts. At stumps, Haseeb Hameed-Rory Burns took England to 77 for no loss as all three results look possible on Monday (September 6).

How will the weather hold up for the final day?

As of now, it seems the cricketing fraternity will get to see the whole day’s play without any rain break. There could be some clouds over the head between 11 AM and 2 PM local time, however, the sun will continue to shine bright throughout. According to the Accuweather, there still remains a 14% chance of rain. The temperature is most likely to hover around in the mid-20s. Overall, a terrific finish is likely on the cards as both sides aim for an unassailable lead.

India and Pakistan are set to lock horns in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, to be held in the UAE after IPL 2021. Both the senior men's cricket team haven't faced each other since the 2019 ODI World Cup group stage encounter and, thus, it is expected to be a mouth-watering clash, on October 24 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

Ahead of the marquee clash, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam feels Virat Kohli-led India will be under more pressure. Speaking ahead of encounter between the two bitter rivals, Azam said that his side would like to start Pakistan's campaign by ending its losing streak against the Men in Blue in World Cup. "India will be under more pressure, as compared to Pakistan, during the T20 World Cup match as they have not played T20 cricket as a group for quite a while. India are currently playing Test cricket and after that, they will get busy with franchise cricket. The UAE is like our home ground and we will try to give our 100 percent on the field," Azam was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

"He shared his mindset with us and we would carry that forward. We have picked a balanced squad for New Zealand ODIs. We are facing issues in the middle-order and this series is a good opportunity for players making a comeback to cement their place in the side. There is no pressure of captaincy on me," Azam added.

To back Babar's claims, Kohli-led India's main squad hasn't played together in T20Is since their England home series in early 2021. India had played three T20Is in Sri Lanka in July but it comprised several uncapped Indian players, led by Shikhar Dhawan. While all the Indian players will be seen in IPL 2021's second and final leg, ahead of the T20 WC, it won't be easy for them to regroup and start well in the showpiece event.

Nonetheless, India will remain confident ahead of facing an opposition they've always managed to beat in World Cups (ODIs and T20Is). India lead Pakistan 7-0 in ODI World Cup whereas are 5-0 ahead in terms of head-to-head battle in the T20 WC.

They haven't played T20 cricket as a group: Babar Azam feels Virat Kohli-led India will be under pressure ahead of marquee clash at WC

Virat Kohli is synonymous to breaking records, on and off the field. While the 32-year-old Indian captain might not be going through his best phase with the bat for Team India, he still became the fastest to register 23,000 international runs during Day 1 of the fourth Test between India and England on Thursday (September 2), at Kennington Oval, London.

Ahead of the second day's play, Kohli attained another huge milestone as he became the first Asian, as well as the first cricketing celebrity, to touch the 150 million mark on Instagram. For the unversed, Kohli has now become the fourth among sporting celebrities to have reached the 150 million mark on the photo-blogging portal.

1) Cristiano Ronaldo - 337 million

2) Lionel Messi - 260 million

3) Neymar Jr - 160 million

Thus, Kohli continues to impress and leave his ardent fans absolutely stunned by his presence, both on and off the field. The Indian skipper is very active on social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter, where he often shares workout videos, adorable posts with his wife Anushka Sharma and family members along with the promotion of various products he endorses, in return for a hefty amount.

Talking about Kohli-led India, the visitors will be desperate to wrap up England's first innings for cheap on Day 2 of the fourth Test on Friday (September 3). Losing the toss, India were asked to bat first but managed only a paltry 191 riding on half-centuries from Kohli (50) and Shardul Thakur (57).

1) Cristiano Ronaldo - 337 million 2) Lionel Messi - 260 million 3) Neymar Jr - 160 million Thus, Kohli continues to impress and leave his ardent fans absolutely stunned by his presence, both on and off the field. The five-match series is currently levelled at 1-1.

Over the years, Team India have been blessed with some brilliant captains. Post the match-fixing scandal, Indian cricket was reinvented during the Sourav Ganguly-era. Under Ganguly, India started competing while playing overseas at regular intervals and reached the final of the 2003 World Cup.

Apart from this, India ended as joint-winners of the 2002 Champions Trophy, won the 2002 Natwest Trophy, Test series versus Pakistan (in 2004) in the neighbouring country and drew the away series in Australia and England. However, India didn't win ICC titles during the current BCCI President's captaincy tenure. India weren't regarded as one of the strongest teams, in terms of temperament needed for winning ICC or multi-nation finals.

Nonetheless, Ganguly backed a whole lot of youngsters such as Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Mohammed Kaif, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, MS Dhoni, etc. All of them made a mark in their respective careers and served the national side for long.

After Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid's tenure, MS Dhoni took over. His astute leadership skills, calm and composed nature and ability to switch between being aggressive and defensive in his tactics won praises from all corners. Under him, India won all ICC titles but slipped way behind in Tests while playing overseas. Moreover, while he did a fabulous job, half of the side he got was groomed by Ganguly-Dravid & Co.

Recently, Virender Sehwag named the better captain among the two cricketers. He said on RJ Raunak's Youtube show "13 Jawab Nahi", "I feel captaincy-wise, both of them were great. But I feel the best amongst the two was Ganguly because he built the team from the onset, took in new players, and rebuilt a unit. He taught India to win matches abroad, we drew Test matches, won some abroad under him."

“Dhoni was lucky in the sense that he got the same team to lead that Ganguly had nurtured, so they both were great but better was Sourav Ganguly,” he added.

While opinions may differ and the debate might go on for long, it is safe to say both Ganguly and Dhoni deserve a lot of credit for taking India to the top since 2000.

MS Dhoni or Sourav Ganguly? Former Team India opener Virender Sehwag picks better captain among the famed duo

Shardul Thakur hogged maximum limelight for Team India on Day 1 of the fourth Test versus England, at Kennington Oval, London. After being asked to bat first, Virat Kohli & Co. were down and out at 120-7 before Shardul rose to the occasion with the bat and his fiery 57 propelled India to 191. While the score remains a paltry one, the visitors almost reached the 200-run mark riding on Shardul's counterattack.

Shardul's 57 was laced with 7 fours and as many as 3 sixes, at a whopping strike-rate of 158.33. At stumps on Day 1, England are on the back foot being 53-3 after Jasprit Bumrah's twin strikes and Umesh Yadav getting rid of Joe Root.

Following Shardul's fireworks, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra opined on his performances and how he has always contributed in some way for Team India in the recent past. Chopra feels the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder is fighting hard for the all-rounder's slot for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.

On his Youtube channel, Chopra said, "He is not just scoring runs. He is asking you to pick him for the World T20 because he is bringing you that option. You obviously miss Hardik Pandya but if he is not there, Shardul Thakur is presenting himself as an option. Hardik might be a better batsman than him, no doubt, but he is a better bowler than Hardik. So he is saying that if you are searching for a package, he could be the guy."

He further stated, "When Rishabh Pant got out, I thought we are gone. But after that Shardul comes and shines. He did a fantastic job. Lord Shardul, again and again - Brisbane, he scored the runs. He was actually net bowler in that series but played the match, scored the runs and took wickets as well. Then in Nottingham, he got Root out in the first innings and Buttler in the second innings. He gives you the important wickets. Here you were 127/7 and he gave you a half-century in which he smashes the England bowlers quite a bit. You reach 191, it is just down to Shardul Thakur once again."

It will be interesting to see if Shardul gets picked in India's squad for the T20 World Cup, will be commence from October 19. For now, the all-rounder will like to continue in a similar stead and lead India to an unassailable 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series in the United Kingdom.

He's asking Virat Kohli & Co. to pick him for T20 WC: Aakash Chopra on Shardul Thakur's fiery 57 in 4th Test

A lot has been said and written about split-captaincy in Team India, especially after Virat Kohli failed to guide India to the coveted title in the 2019 ODI World Cup. While India has had some good success under Kohli's leadership, the 32-year-old is yet to lead the national side to an ICC title since taking over as full-time captain in early 2017.

Under Kohli, India were on a roll in the 2017 Champions Trophy before losing the final to Pakistan. They topped the round-robin stage in the ODI World Cup, in 2019, before bowing out in the semi-finals and lost the inaugural ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final to New Zealand in mid-June 2021. Hence, many have time and again suggested for split-captaincy, with Rohit Sharma (who is the limited-overs vice-captain) taking over as the T20I captain and easing the workload on Kohli.

Even Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane's name cropped up to take over from Kohli in whites after India's WTC final loss. Under Rahane, a second-stringed Indian team had beaten Australia in their own backyard to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under in early 2021.

Thus, head coach Ravi Shastri has finally opened up on the split-captaincy debate. "I am the coach of the team now, not a selector. Neither I'm a broadcaster. When my tenure as a coach ends then ask me and I will give my viewpoint. At this moment, I have to focus on the team and who is there in the team," Shastri told Times Now during the interaction.

"Yes, I am the coach. My team captain is Virat Kohli, vice-captain is Ajinkya Rahane. For one day international team, the captain is again Virat Kohli, vice-captain is Rohit Sharma, and they are doing extremely well. If you see the performance of the Indian team, tell me which other team has been this consistent in these 5 years. If not, then why speculate (who can become captain)? This team is doing well and I am happy," Shastri added.

Amid all talks around split-captaincy, Kohli is set to lead India in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup, in the UAE later this year. He will look to lead India to the championship, ending all such talks once and for all.

At present, Team India is involved in the five-match Test series versus England in the United Kingdom. Kohli & Co. are gearing up to face the hosts in the fourth and penultimate Test, at Kennington Oval, London, from September 2 (Thursday), with the series currently levelled at 1-1.

Should Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma share Team India leadership duties? Ravi Shastri gives his take on split captaincy

There were quite a few rumours of an alleged rift between Indian captain Virat Kohli and his white-ball format deputy Rohit Sharma, which broke out after the 2019 ODI World Cup in England and Wales. While the team management has always shunned all such claims, Team India head coach Ravi Shastri has finally reacted to the alleged rift rumours.

In an interaction with Times Now, Shastri responded to the news of alleged rift between King Kohli and the Hitman. He said, "I never saw it. So when People used to ask me like this, I say what you have seen I have not seen. Hamesha taalmel acha hai (the co-ordination has always been there). I have never seen it affecting the team. If I see an effect in the team, I will say on Virat or Rohit's face that this is not on and you have to look at things differently. But not once have I seen it impacting the team from day 1. I am a person who says what I want."

Following the 2019 World Cup, Kohli was also asked to react with regard to the alleged rift. Back then, the 32-year-old had strongly reacted to all such reports and told, "I too have heard a lot. Dressing room atmosphere is important to succeed. If this (rumour of the rift) was true, we would not have performed well. It's ridiculous to read such news. We are overlooking faces. We are turning blind eyes towards good things. It's disrespectful to bring such news. You'll come to the changing room and see how we are. We cant show you videos. It baffles you as a team member and the captain."

Was there an alleged rift between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma? Ravi Shastri breaks his silence

India and England will lock horns in the fourth and penultimate Test at Kennington Oval, London from September 2 (Thursday) with the series interestingly poised at 1-1. After the drawn series opener and Virat Kohli-led India winning the second Test at Lord's by 151 runs, Joe Root & Co. bounced back in style to win the third Test by an innings and 76 runs as both sides have plenty to play for in the penultimate contest.

A 2-1 unassailable lead will be for taking for both sides. Ahead of the match's commencement, here's a quick stat of how both sides have fared at the venue.

STATS

Both India and England have squared off against each other on 13 occasions at the picturesque Kennington Oval, London. Out of the 13 games, India have managed to win only 1 encounter and lost 5. Meanwhile, the remaining 7 Tests resulted in a draw.

During India's 2018 tour of England, Kohli & Co. lost to hosts at the venue by 118 runs in pursuit of 463. To add to India's woes, they have lost all their last three Tests at the venue, including two innings defeat.

PITCH CONDITIONS

Traditionally, the pitch at The Oval is akin for pacers as well as spinners. While it will begin to assist the pacers for the initial few days, the spinners come into the action which might tempt Team India to finally give R Ashwin a chance in the series. Both Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja can feature in India's XI. For the batters, they will find it a nice turf to bat on, with runs mainly coming in the second session of the day.

WEATHER CONDITIONS

According to AccuWeather, the weather in London is expected to remain fairly for the first three-four days. However, rain may play spoilsport on the final day. Hence, if all three results remain possible on Day 5, we might see rain wasting crucial time as it happened during the series opener (when entire Day 5 got washed out). As batting already remains tough in the final innings in England, the change of weather might tilt the equation in the favour of the bowling side on Day 5.

India vs England 2021, 4th Test: Pitch conditions at Kennington Oval, London weather report and stats

There has been criticism for Indian captain Virat Kohli from all corners due to his struggles in the ongoing India-England Tests, in the United Kingdom. So far, Kohli has scores of 0, DNB, 42, 20, 7 and 55. While he did score a half-century in the final innings of the third Test, where India lost by an innings and 76 runs, the 32-year-old didn't look at his very best versus the second new ball on Day 4.

Kohli was troubled by the likes of James Anderson and Ollie Robinson as the former remains unsure of how to deal with the ball when pitched on the fourth-fifth stump-line. Ahead of the fourth and penultimate Test, which begins from September 2 at Kennington Oval, London, former India pacer Ashish Nehra has come forward and supported Kohli.

Speaking to reporters in a media interaction organised by Sony, Nehra opined, "First things first, somebody like Virat Kohli, he knows his game, that’s why he is here. He has been successful in the same conditions. Everybody knows when you talk about English conditions; they are not easy. You just spoke about Sunil Gavaskar (urging Kohli to learn from Tendulkar and avoid the shot that is getting him out every time)."

Taking cognisance of recent Kohli's struggles, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar had suggested that the Indian skipper should take notes from Sachin Tendulkar and have a quick chat with him. "Yes, if somebody like Virat Kohli feels he needs to do that, I am sure, he will definitely try to do that. But here, you also correctly mentioned that Virat Kohli got out in the slips, but not while driving all the time. He also got out defending. So it’s not like the ball is not there to drive, yet he is going for a cover drive,” Nehra added.

"Our bowlers also did that in one game. But I don’t think Virat Kohli needs to change his technique overnight. In between a series, it is more about adjustment of your game and being mentally ready. Don’t think there is any problem with Virat Kohli when it comes to mental toughness," he concluded.

Kohli's struggles, however, has been a long one. His last international ton came in late 2019. He averaged only 19.33 in Tests in 2020 whereas currently he averages 27.15 in the format in the ongoing calendar year. The Indian captain will be desperate to score a daddy hundred in the remaining two games and lead India to a series win over England in their own backyard.

Don’t think Virat Kohli needs to change his technique overnight: Ashish Nehra on Indian captain's struggles in England

The Indian captain hasn't been at his best in the ongoing England Tests and couldn't produce a match-winning performance for the national side even during the inaugural WTC final, versus New Zealand in Southampton in mid-June.

Kohli's scores so far in the England Tests are: 0, DNB, 42, 20, 7 and 55. While he did surpass the 50-run mark for the first time during India's tour of United Kingdom, including the WTC summit clash, he was far from his usual best and was troubled by James Anderson and Ollie Robinson when England took the second new ball on Day 4 of the third Test at Headingley, Leeds.

Speaking on Kohli's form and his barren run, former batting coach Sanjay Bangar was qouted as saying while speaking on Aakash Chopra's Youtube channel. "The bottom line as far as I am concerned is that Virat Kohli has not shown the patience that England bowlers have shown against him. That was the only difference."

“He has not got out defending a lot of times. He has gone towards the ball in all his dismissals. If you see his dismissals from 2014, he did not get out playing the drive as many times as he got out defending. I feel he is playing the sixth or seventh stump delivery, which is not required to be played. He needs to check his position when the ball gets released,” Bangar added.

While a lot has been said and written about Kohli ahead of the fourth Test, which starts on September 2 (Thursday) at Kennington Oval, London, the 32-year-old will be eager to let the bat do all the talking in the remainder of the Tests.

At present, the India-England Tests is levelled at 1-1 and both sides have plenty to play for in the last two encounters.

'Virat Kohli has not...': Former India batting coach points out Indian captain's flaws amid low returns in England

Rishabh Pant was one of India's best batsman in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. However, the left-hander hasn't done anything extra ordinary in the second cycle, which commenced with the start of the India-England Test series, in the United Kingdom, in early August.

Pant so far has only 87 runs in 5 innings and hasn't played any impactful knock despite getting starts in few outings. Ahead of the fourth and penultimate Test, many have shown concerns over his form and mode of dismissals. While Virat Kohli-led Indian team management wants to back his fearless style of play, they want him to also be aware of the match situation.

Ahead of the fourth and penultimate Test, which gets underway from September 2 (Thursday) at Kennington Oval, London, former India pacer Ashish Nehra defended Pant during an online media interaction organised by Sony and said, "Somebody like Pant or any international cricketer needs to change their game from time to time but, they should not forget their strengths also. If he gets out while defending or hitting a shot, he is the same Rishabh Pant who won the Test match at the Gabba."

He further opined, "His way of batting and his style will always be a discussion point in Test cricket. Adam Gilchrist was also quite similar. He knew what his style was and backed that. Have to give him time. You’re talking about a guy who’s scored a hundred in Australia and England in tough conditions. When you talk about a wicketkeeper batsman he has already done wonders."

Though Pant seems certain to play the remainder of the two Tests in England, he will like to make the most of the opportunities and slam a daddy hundred going forward to stage India's recovery in the series.

After the drawn series opener and India's Lord's Test win, the visitors lost the third Test by an innings and 76 runs as the series is levelled at 1-1. Thus, both India and England will come hard at each other in the penultimate Test in order to take an unassailable 2-1 lead.

Virat Kohli hasn't been at his usual best for quite sometime. His last international ton came in November 2019 and, since then, the 32-year-old has had some reasonable success in white-ball cricket but consistency, or a big score, has eluded him.
The Indian cricket board could soon get richer by at least Rs 5000 crore with the addition of two new franchises during the 2022 edition of Indian Premier League. The IPL, which is currently an eight-team tournament, will become a 10-team affair from the next edition and during a recent governing council meeting, the modalities of the bidding process were chalked out. The BCCI on Tuesday also invited bids to own an IPL franchise with "Invitation to Tender" available for purchase till October 5. "Any company can buy the bid document paying Rs 10 lakh. Earlier top brass was thinking about keeping the base price for two new teams at Rs 1700 crore but later it was decided to keep the base price at Rs 2000 crore," a senior BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

The source, who has dealt with the financial side of IPL in the past, said that the BCCI stands to gain at least Rs 5000 crore if the bids go as per plan with plenty of large business conglomerates showing active interest in bidding. "The BCCI is expecting anything in the range of 5000 crore if not more. There will be 74 IPL games next season and it's a win-win situation for everyone." The BCCI statement added: "The Governing Council of the IPL invites bids to acquire the right to own and operate 1 (one) of the 2 (two) new teams proposed to be introduced to take part in the Indian Premier League from the IPL 2022 season, through a tender process. "Any interested party wishing to submit a bid is required to purchase the ITT. However, only those satisfying the eligibility criteria set out in the ITT and subject to the other terms and conditions set out therein, shall be eligible to bid. It is clarified that merely purchasing this ITT does not entitle any person to bid," it added. It is learnt that only companies with an annual turnover of Rs 3000 crore will be allowed to bid for the teams.

In a welcome news, the BCCI is planning to allow a consortium to bid for teams as it makes the bidding process more vibrant. "I think more than three business entities won't be allowed to form a consortium but if three business come together and wants to jointly bid for a team, they are welcome to do so," he said. Cheerio Virat: England fans give send-off to Captain Kohli after James Anderson dismisses him on Day 1 of 3rd Test - watch

Virat Kohli is having a tough time in the ongoing England Tests, in the United Kingdom. The 32-year-old had a disastrous 2014 tour of England but turned things around in an emphatic way during the 2018 trip. However, his numbers have gone downhill once again in England and Wales during the ongoing five-match Test series versus Joe Root & Co.

On Day 1 of the third Test at Headingley, Leeds, Kohli fell for a 17-ball 7. Thus, his scores so far in the series have been: 0, DNB, 42, 20, 7. The 32-year-old once again fell to his arch-rival James Anderson, second time in the ongoing series and 7th time overall in Tests, as his poor run of form continues to worry his ardent fans and former Indian cricketers.

Among the former Indian players, Sanjay Manjrekar shared his thoughts on Kohli's barren run. He told Sony Sports, after India were bundled out for 78 on Day 1 of Headingley Test, "Unlike so many greats of his league, he (Kohli) has got a very obvious weakness. All the greats, the Tendulkars, the Gavaskars and the Viv Richards, didn't have one obvious weakness. Every time that gets exploited, Virat Kohli gets found out. It's not that he is getting out in different ways like Ajinkya Rahane does. I am sure it's starting to bother him."

Manjrekar decoded Kohli's struggles and opined, "The reason he got those runs in 2018 was not because he was cover-driving beautifully or pulling it superbly like he was in Australia against Mitchell Johnson. It was all about leaving the ball, which was about doing something he was not accustomed to. It requires a lot of mental effort. I am just starting to feel that maybe the mental reserves that he has is he as fresh mentally as he was in 2018 with that big challenge of seeing James Anderson through and leaving balls after balls? He is not leaving as many balls this time."

The wait for Kohli's 71st international ton continues to extend. For the unversed, the Indian captain's last triple-figure knock came in November, 2019 and, since then, he has struggled to come close to the three-figure mark. Starting to feel Virat Kohli isn't as mentally fresh as he was in 2018: Sanjay Manjrekar decodes Indian captain's struggles

India and England were involved in a high-voltage second Test, at Lord's, which ended with Virat Kohli-led India coming on top of hosts by a whopping 151-run margin to go 1-0 up in the five-match series, being held in England and Wales. While the match had several memorable moments, Jasprit Bumrah's relentless fast-bowling spell -- comprising a barrage of bouncers -- to England's James Anderson during the home side's first innings became a huge talking point.

Following Bumrah's bouncers to Anderson, who was caught off guard by the Indian speedster's extra pace and bounce, things got heated up between the two sides. After England managed a slender 27-run lead over India and the fiery face-off between Bumrah-Anderson ended on Day 3, Joe Root-led England tried to come hard on Bumrah but paid the price as it Kohli & Co. replied with much intent to script a historic comeback on the final day and win the Test by 151 runs.

Nonetheless, as per a report in The Telegraph, it has been claimed that things turned ugly between India and England following the Bumrah-Anderson face-off on Day 3 of the Lord's Test.

India and England players were reportedly involved in a 'bust-up' in the Lord's long room after the conclusion of Day 3's play during the second Test, which ended on August 16. There were 'tense scenes in the Lord's pavilion at the end of the third day's play. The report referred to the incident as a 'bust-up' and claimed that the players from both camps were seen arguing on their way to their dressing rooms and the confrontation continued even in the Lord's long room.

"Confrontations in the Lord's Long Room - the hallowed inner sanctum of English cricket - are almost unheard of," stated the report from The Telegraph', also claiming that the two captains -- Kohli and Root -- were also believed to be involved in a heated exchange.

Following Bumrah-Anderson face-off, India came out to bat in their second essay, trailing England by 27 runs. The hosts had their noise ahead on the final day as India were reduced to 209-8, leading by 182 runs, when Bumrah-Mohammed Shami battled the short-ball ploy versus the English pacers and set-up a daunting 272-run target for the hosts. India, England players involved in 'bust-up' in Lord's long room following Jasprit Bumrah's bouncer barrage to James Anderson - Report

Virat Kohli-led India are on cloud nine as they step into the third Test, of the five-match series, versus Joe Root-led England with a 1-0 lead. The second Test, at Lord's cricket ground, was a topsy-turvy ride before India stunned England with a terrific all-round display to win the contest by 151 runs on the final day.

Resuming Day 5 at 181-6, India had an overall lead of only 154 with Rishabh Pant and the tail-enders left with plenty to do. As India were reduced to 209-8, with both the overnight batters such as Pant and Ishant Sharma back in the pavillion, England lost the plot in trying to unsettle Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, with their overaggressive tactics, as the ninth-wicket pair added an unbeaten 89-run stand. As a result, India declared at 298-8, setting up a challenging 272-run target for the hosts in 60 overs.

Charged up by James Anderson & Co.'s aggressive tactics, Team India rose to the occasion and bundled out Root & Co. for 120 to win the Lord's Test by 151 runs. This became India's third win at the venue overall. While India also had a 1-0 lead after the conclusion of the second Test, at Lord's, during their 2014 England tour, it went all downhill for the then MS Dhoni-led visitors who lost the series 3-1.

Hence, Kohli-led India will be wary of not losing steam in the remainder of the series and will aim for an unassailable 2-0 lead. For the unversed, the likes of Shardul Thakur, Hanuma Vihari, R Ashwin and Mayank Agarwal are available for selection. While Vihari might be considered in place of underperforming Cheteshwar Pujara, the latter's vital 46 in India's second essay at Lords might help him retain his place.

It will be interesting to see if Ashwin gets a look-in. Many had touted him to be a part of India's XI at Lord's. While two spinners might also feature, given that India's 4-pace attack is doing wonders, Ashwin can come in only at the expense of Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja has been effective with the bat, but remains wicketless with the ball in hand.

If India need to add a swashbuckling batsman in their line-up and surprise the English camp, Suryakumar Yadav might also get a look-in.

India's predicted XI for the 3rd Test: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara/Hanuma Vihari/Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli (c), Ajinkya Rahane (vc), Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja/R Ashwin, Shardul Thakur/Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj

Indian women’s Test and ODI skipper Mithali Raj on Tuesday reacted to the ongoing episode surrounding tennis player Naomi Osaka boycotting media engagements citing anxiety issues. Mithali opined that she never felt the need to boycott media as women’s cricket needs media support. Osaka on Tuesday pulled out of the ongoing French Open to take care of her mental health following a massive fall-out as the Japanese tennis star had decided to boycott press conferences during the Grand Slam. Osaka had said she goes through anxiety before facing the world media. Osaka is the world's highest-earning female athlete, making $37.4 million in 2020. She burst onto the scene in 2018 with a maiden Slam win at the US Open. Women's cricket needs media support: Mithali Raj "Well, I think it is tough to be in quarantine for any athlete. But, I think getting into a tournament, we do not feel that. Personally, I have not felt that I should forgo a press conference because women's cricket right now where it stands, it needs media support and it is important for players also to sort of try and help in the growth of the sport. So we need to try to promote the sport," said Mithali during a virtual press conference.
