Since then, the Twitter interaction between Shami and Akhtar has become a major talking point. Former Pakistan pacer and captain Wasim Akram has now joined in and criticised Shami for his response.&nbsp;

Ponting pointed out how playing the iconic shot was not easy considering it required significant strength from the core and the power to still send the ball to the distance. The Australian legend acknowledged Kohli is one of the few players in international cricket at present who can pull off the extraordinary shot.

"He stood up on top of the bounce of the ball, and there’s a certain degree of skill involved in that but you’ve got to look at the strength involved in a shot like that as well. All that strength came through his core. You’ve got a steady base and the power to create and play that shot from there, comes through your core," said Ponting.

"We’ve seen him with his cricket gear off, he’s pretty fit. There’s a lot of other players that just wouldn’t have been strong enough through their core to do something like that but he’s one of the guys that can," he added.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Roger Binny hit back at former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi after he recently claimed that the International Cricket Council (ICC) is biased towards India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Afridi's comments came after India defeated Bangladesh in a thrilling rain-curtained game on Wednesday.

The match was reduced to a 16-overs-a-side contest after rain halted play during Bangladesh's 185-run chase. Bangladesh were in a strong position with no wickets lost when the play was interrupted but Indian bowlers fought back after the rain delay to pull off a thrilling 5-run victory for the Men in Blue.

Afridi made a controversial statement during a debate on Pakistan's Saama TV post the game as India's victory against Bangladesh all but confirmed Pakistan's exit from the tournament. The former Pakistan skipper accused the ICC of being biased towards India and said the international body wants Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. to reach the semi-finals at any cost.

Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis has said he won't be surprised if star all-rounder Hardik Pandya takes over as the new captain of the Indian cricket team after Rohit Sharma. Pakistan legend Wasim Akram heaped praise on Hardik during a debate on A Sports which also involved his former bowling partner Younis. Pointing out his leadership skills in IPL where he led Gujarat Titans to a title triumph earlier this year, Akram said Hardik is mentally strong and knows how to deal with pressure.

“Hardik Pandya has captained for the first time in the IPL and led his team to the title,” said Akram.

"He knows how to handle the pressure. He has the finisher's role in the team and you can be a finisher only when you are mentally strong and have self-belief. He knows how to read the game and take it deep," he added.

Younis agreed with Akram and said he wouldn't be surprised if Hardik is made the captain of the Indian team after Rohit. “I won’t be surprised if he is the next Indian captain," said Younis.

Kohli had revealed after his enthralling knock that it was Hardik who kept speaking to him and asked him to take the game deep. The senior batter said Hardik always believed he could chase it down if the game went down the wire. With 16 runs to get off the final over, India had a poor start but luck favoured the brave as they managed to get over the line.
