Pakistan's Iftikhar Ahmed reacts to fake remark on Team India, lashes out at fan for 'spreading hate'

India and Pakistan are set to lock horns in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition, which will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The upcoming continental tournament kicks off on August 30 and arch-rivals India and Pakistan will lock horns on September 02 in Pallekele. The two sides are likely to meet in the Super Four round and can also lock horns in the summit clash, to be held in Colombo on September 17.

Ahead of the tournament, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria feels Babar Azam &amp; Co. have the edge over Team India as the latter are unsettled at the moment.

<h2>'Pakistan have the edge, as India don't look settled at the moment'</h2>

Kaneria said during a live session on his official YouTube channel, "Pakistan have the edge, as India don't look settled at the moment. They don't know which fast bowlers are going to play. In their spin department, Yuzvendra Chahal has been inconsistent. Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja should be the three spinners, according to me. If they want a spinner on standby, Ravi Bishnoi should get the nod."

The former Pakistan spinner further added, "KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have been practicing at the NCA and are mostly likely going to be included in India's squad for the upcoming major tournaments. However, you cannot bring someone into the team just on the basis of practice. They will have to play matches and should be added to the team only if they show good form there."

Team India recently ended their all-format tour of West Indies, on August 13, where they won the Test series 1-0 and the three ODIs 2-1 but lost the five T20Is 2-3. A second-stringed Indian team will now tour Ireland, for three T20Is, where Jasprit Bumrah marks his international return since September 2022. The national side will also hope for Iyer and Rahul's comeback ahead of the Asia Cup as their backups, Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav, continue to remain inconsistent.

Asia Cup 2023: Pakistan have the edge, India not settled at the moment, feels former spinner Danish Kaneria

India and Pakistan are set to look horns in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 as the mind games have started to take center stage in both camps. Firing the first shots on the opposition camp, former India captain Virat Kohli praised Pakistan skipper Babar Azam for his batting and hinted that he is probably the best batter in the world right now. With three weeks to go for the first Asia Cup 2023 meeting between India and Pakistan, the build-up is taking place nicely in both camps.

<h2>Virat lauds Babar</h2>

"The first interaction I had with him [Babar] was during the 2019 [ODI] World Cup after the game in Manchester. I've known Imad [Wasim] since the Under-19 World Cup, and he said Babar wanted to have a chat. We sat down and spoke about the game. I saw a lot of regard and respect from him from day one, and that hasn't changed," Kohli said.

"Regardless of the fact he's probably the top batsman in the world across formats, and rightly so. Performs so consistently and I've always enjoyed watching him play."

It is worth noting that, India and Pakistan could meet five times from now until the end of the World Cup. The two nations are drawn in the same group of Asia Cup along with Nepal and are all but guaranteed a top-two finish considering the former’s inexperience at the highest level. If this is the case, both India and Pakistan will reignite their rivalry in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup. Again, if both teams top the Super Four stage they will meet for the third time in the final of the Asia Cup.

<h2>Virat’s obsession with Pakistan</h2>

Virat though will have bitter-sweet memories of Pakistan's affair in the World Cup, as he remains the only Indian skipper to lose to Pakistan in the grand tournament. Babar’s Pakistan beat India comprehensively in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Virat though had his revenge in the Australian version of the T20 World Cup in 2022 when he led India to a famous win at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Both India and Pakistan are set to meet on a rescheduled date of Saturday, October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. India have never lost to Pakistan in the ODI World Cup in seven meetings and will look to maintain the dominating run. They could also meet in the semi-final or the final of the World Cup if a certain set of results are met.

Fire breaks out at Eden Gardens during renovation work for ODI World Cup

India maintained their purple patch in the ongoing Asian Champions Trophy as they hammered arch-rivals Pakistan 4-0 in a one-sided contest on Wednesday, August 9. Eight-time Olympic champions showed no mercy on Pakistan as they inflicted their heaviest defeat of the tournament. The win also saw India take the top spot as they remain the only team yet to taste a defeat at the Asian Champions Trophy.

<h2>India show no mercy</h2>

The high-voltage clash had only one favourite team as India took the initiative from the start which led to their dominance. India’s dominance eventually paid dividends in the 15th minute when skipper Harmanpreet Singh converted a penalty corner to give a 1-0 lead to the hosts. The skipper has been in great form in the tournament and scored his sixth goal to highlight his importance for the team.

However, he did not have to wait long for his seventh goal of the tournament as he converted another penalty corner in the second quarter. The game was well in control of the hosts and they looked on course to top the group at Malaysia’s expense.

Jugraj Singh would then add one more to India’s tally as the doors for a comeback for Pakistan were all but shut. The goal came in the 36th minute and was the icing on the cake as they maintained their unbeaten run in the Asian Champions Trophy. In another twist, Akashdeep Singh would add insult to injury for Pakistan as he scored India’s fourth goal of the contest.

India will now take on Japan in the semifinal contest on Friday, August 11 while Malaysia will face South Korea in the earlier contest. The result also meant that Pakistan are no longer in contention for the championships and will take China in the fifth-place match. A win for India in the tournament will see them become the second-most successful team in the history of the Asian Champions Trophy with four titles. Malaysia remain the most successful team in the history of the tournament with five titles.

India will now lock horns with the Dutch line-up&nbsp;in what will be their last game in the round-robin stage, on November 12 coinciding with Diwali - one of the biggest Hindu festivals. There are, however, no changes to the semi-finals and final.

The 10-team 50-over showpiece event will kick off on October 05 between defending champions England and New Zealand. India will open their campaign versus Australia, in Chennai, on October 14. The semi-finals will be held on November 15 and 16, at Mumbai and Kolkata respectively, whereas the summit clash will be on November 19 in Ahmedabad.

CWC '23 revised schedule: India vs Pakistan to take place on October 14, eight more fixtures rescheduled

Harmanpreet Singh-India have been on fire in the ongoing Asian Champions Trophy, in Chennai.&nbsp;With three wins and a draw, India sit pretty at the top spot&nbsp;with 10 points, followed by Malaysia (9 points), South Korea (5), Pakistan (5), Japan (2) and China (1). On Wednesday (August 09), India face another challenge as they host arch-rivals Pakistan for the first time in the tournament, which is expected to be another thrilling contest.&nbsp;

Ahead of the marquee Indo-Pak clash, WION's Sports Editor Digvijay Singh Deo caught up with India head coach Craig Fulton in an exclusive interaction. Prior to the much-awaited face-off in Chennai, Fulton stated that he is excited about the big-ticket clash but played down the hype saying Harmanpreet &amp; Co. need to 'back their own structure and training' and look to keep improving.

<h2>'We need to play the game and not the occasion'</h2>

On India's overall run so far, Fulton said, "Been a great experience so far and the home fans have been fantastic." Sharing his take on the Indo-Pak rivalry, he opined, "I have watched a few of these games before (Indo-Pak clashes). Been prepared for a long time for this clash ever since I took this job. Very excited about this, especially at this stage of the tournament. It is an important game. We need to play the game and not the occasion. It brings its own pressure but you got to back your own structure and training and look to improve in areas where we need to."

The 48-year-old Fulton opened up on the Pakistan line-up and said, "Yeah, they are in a nice rebuilding stage. As every national team does, they are in a rebuilding stage and a team to watch out for."

It is to be noted that the Men in Green are in a spot of bother in the continental tournament. They need to win to guarantee a spot in the last four. A defeat would leave their fate on the result of the China-Japan tie. If they lose to India, Pakistan will hope for China's win. Incase Japan outplays China, the victory of the margin should be lesser. In addition, Pakistan will hope for Malaysia to go past&nbsp;South Korea by a handsome margin to benefit their chances.

Talking about India's run and the fitness standards, the South African said, "In four games, we have scored 16 goals. Putting back-to-back performances has been tough. We have done well versus China and Malaysia. We are still in a good place and am very happy with where we are. I am happy with the fitness level. We have played nine games in 12 days and we still have three more games to go. It is a challenge but we are up for it. We need most recovery towards the end of the tournament."

In overall head-to-head, Pakistan lead India 82-64, along with 32 draws, but the tides have turned in India's favour of late. In the Asian Champions Trophy, the Men in Blue lead 6-2 along with two drawn encounters.

Exclusive | 'We need to play the game, not...': Coach Fulton on Indo-Pak tie in Asian Champions Trophy

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), following the latest high-profile meeting, including the Pakistan government,&nbsp;is said to have agreed to travel to India for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 but on one condition – only if ICC in consultation with the Indian Cricket Board writes to them guaranteeing security.

The PCB will send its security delegation team to India, mostly likely in the 3rd week of August, as the Indian Board is yet to re-announce the revised World Cup 2023 schedule. With the mega tournament set to commence in less than two months time, the BCCI, upon receiving requests from several unnamed boards over logistics, was forced to make last minute changes to the dates.

The marquee clash between India and Pakistan is one of them. While earlier, the match was scheduled to take place on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad, the new date is said to be a day earlier, i.e. October 14 at the same venue. Both boards – the BCCI and PCB have agreed on the same.&nbsp;

Besides, the Pakistan-Sri Lanka match that was supposed to get underway on October 12 in Hyderabad will now take place at the same venue on October 10, giving Pakistan team more to prepare for the high-octane clash against India.

With two matches already scheduled for Saturday, October 14 (Bangladesh vs New Zealand and Afghanistan vs England), India vs Pakistan will be third game of the day.

Meanwhile, as per latest reports, in a meeting chaired by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, discussions around raising national cricket team's security during the World Cup 2023 with the governing body (ICC) also took place.

<h2>India-Pakistan set for early World Cup clash</h2>

The fans don't have to wait until October 14 to see the mega clash get underway, as India and Pakistan will face off earlier on September 2 in Colombo during the Group Stage game of Asia Cup 2023. Paired alongside Nepal in Group A, India and Pakistan are expected to cross paths more than once in the six-team tournament.

While the Indian Cricket Team will play West Indies and Ireland before entering the Asia Cup, the Pakistan team will take on Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka, starting August 22.

CWC 2023: Pakistan will travel to India only after getting security guarantee from ICC - Sources

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has agreed to the changes in Babar Azam-led Pakistan's schedule in the forthcoming ODI World Cup 2023, in India. As per reports, Pakistan's face-off versus India, on October 15 in Ahmedabad, and its clash versus Sri Lanka will be the two games whose dates are&nbsp;to be changed.

Sources told The Dawn, on Tuesday (August 01), that Pakistan's much-awaited face-off versus arch-rivals Rohit Sharma-led India will be preponed by a day. The match is set to take place at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad but the date will undergo a&nbsp;change, i.e. from October 15 to October 14. The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the full itinerary last month.&nbsp;However, it is believed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently requested some tweaks.&nbsp;

The Indo-Pak tie is likely to take place on October 14 as the match will clash with a religious&nbsp;festival&nbsp;if held on its original date. Thus, security arrangements can be a huge concern. Similarly, Pakistan's game versus 1996 winners Sri Lanka will also take place on October 10, and not on October 12

It is to be noted that the new schedule is yet to be announced officially. However, it is likely to have no impact on Pakistan's tournament opener, where they face the Netherlands on October 06 in Hyderabad. In addition, it won't affect any other game for the Men in Green barring the one against India.

<h2>QUESTIONS REMAIN OVER PAKISTAN'S&nbsp;PARTICIPATION</h2>

However,&nbsp;Pakistan's participation in India for the upcoming ICC event still remains a mystery. It is set to&nbsp;be decided by a Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-led committee, formed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in July. The committee will give the green signal to&nbsp;the venues where Pakistan is set to play only after due diligence&nbsp;on security. The 11-member working group will meet&nbsp;on Thursday (August 03) and a final decision is&nbsp;likely on the same day.&nbsp;

England, the defending champions, and New Zealand will kick off the ODI World Cup on October 05 in Ahmedabad whereas hosts India play their opening game versus Australia, in Chennai, on October 08.

ODI World Cup 2023: PCB gives nod to changes in Pakistan's schedule, including India face-off

India vs Pakistan clash in the upcoming ODI World Cup could be rescheduled, according to the latest report, as both nations are in the final stage of their preparations. The clash is currently scheduled for Sunday, October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, but could now face major changes as advised by the security officials. As per the report, the match will coincide with the Hindu festival of Navratri, which will begin on the same day as the India vs Pakistan contest.

<h2>What is the report?</h2>

The report was carried out by The Indian Express as it reported that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah has called for a meeting on Thursday, July 27 where the issue will be discussed. Ahmedabad is one of the popular cities in India where Navratri is celebrated with great enthusiasm.

“We are mulling the options that we have and a decision will be taken soon. We have been told by the security agencies that a high-profile game like India vs Pakistan, for which thousands of travelling fans are expected to reach Ahmedabad, should be avoided since they will be stretched because of Navratri,” a top BCCI official on conditions of anonymity was quoted as saying in the report.

The much-awaited clash between the two nations has been the focal point ever since the fixture list for the ODI World Cup was announced on June 27. The match is expected to be full-house, as a crowd of more than one lakh will be expected to flood the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, over-crowding could lead to security issues which the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the BCCI would want to avoid.

<h2>Jay Shah calls for a meet</h2>

It is reported that Jay Shah in a note to all the 10 host state associations for the World Cup has called for a meeting on Thursday to take stock of any issue, which needs to be taken care of or any decision that might be made. It is likely that the final call on the date of the India vs Pakistan match will be taken in the said meeting.

It will be expected that the match will remain in Ahmedabad as the state board has made all the necessary preparations for the contest. The fans have also booked their hotel rooms to witness the biggest cricket rivalry. As things stand, the Pakistan cricket team is yet to get clearance from their government to travel to India for the World Cup.

The ODI World Cup will start on Thursday, October 5 with England and New Zealand playing in the curtain-raiser.&nbsp;

Asia Cup 2023 draft schedule out: India vs Pakistan on September 2 in Sri Lanka

The drama regarding Pakistan's participation in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is far from over. An&nbsp;upcoming ICC meeting is set to take place in Durban, South Africa and the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Zaka Ashraf, is keen to push for the Babar Azam-led Men in Green to play their World Cup games at neutral venues. It is mainly because India didn't agree to travel to Pakistan for this year's Asia Cup&nbsp;to be held in August-September.

<h2>'Want neutral venues if India doesn’t want to send its team to Pakistan for Asia Cup'</h2>

“Zaka Ashraf will bring up the issue of why can’t Pakistan’s matches in the World Cup be played at neutral venues when the Indian team can’t travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. I want our World Cup matches at neutral venues if India doesn’t want to send its team to Pakistan for Asia Cup. If they have security problems in Pakistan according to the Indian board, then we can also question the security situation in India,” said Ahsan Mazari as quoted by PTI.&nbsp;

Pakistan's participation in the 50-over showpiece event has become a huge talking point. The&nbsp;final decision&nbsp;will be taken by their&nbsp;government. However, there is no end to the drama between PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While the Indian cricket board made it clear that they won't send their team to Pakistan for this year's Asia Cup, the tournament's future was under dark clouds before a hybrid model came up, with the India games -- including their marquee clash versus Pakistan -- to be held in Sri Lanka.&nbsp;

Only four matches&nbsp;of the Asia Cup 2023 edition will take place in Pakistan, allowing Babar &amp; Co.&nbsp;to take the field in front of their home fans only once. Thus, this has not been well received by the PCB, whereas their demands with regard to the venue changes for the ODI World Cup have&nbsp;also not been entertained.

Thus, Ashraf aims to push Pakistan's ODI WC games to be played at neutral venues and not in India. As of now, the 1992 champions are&nbsp;set to play their nine league-stage games in five different venues&nbsp;in India.

Pakistan's schedule at CWC' 23

October 6: Pakistan vs Netherlands, Hyderabad
October 12: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, Hyderabad
October 15: Pakistan vs India, Ahmedabad
October 20: Pakistan vs Australia, Bengaluru
October 23: Pakistan vs Afghanistan, Chennai
October 27: Pakistan vs South Africa, Chennai
October 31: Pakistan vs Bangladesh, Kolkata
November 4: Pakistan vs New Zealand, Bengaluru
November 12: Pakistan vs England, Kolkata

It remains to be seen if there will be any change with regard to the Asia Cup whereas Pakistan's participation in the ODI WC is also subject to clearance by their government.

India is the only team who will be playing in as many as nine venues, a different one for each game. Thus, the home side will have their task cut-out to meet the expectations of their ardent fans and go the distance in the tournament amid regular travel.&nbsp;

Rohit &amp; Co., who occupy the third spot in ICC ODI Rankings, will not play any day game. Thus, they will also have to take into consideration the dew factor at some venues. Overall, the Men in Blue are set to face a stern test in the league stage in order to enter the top four and go for their third title in the showpiece event.

The last time India hosted the ODI World Cup was back in 2011, when MS Dhoni-led co-hosts won the tournament. Indian fans will be desperate to see the national team replicate their 2011 success this time around as well. Given India's last ICC title win came in 2013, the pressure will be on Rohit &amp; Co.

CWC'23: India's full schedule at 2023 ODI World Cup after Sri Lanka, Netherlands enter main draw

Ahead of the marquee India-Pakistan clash in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023, in India, Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi feels that equal importance should be given to all other games as well and not just the one versus Team India. Afridi, who was the Player-of-the-Match in Pakistan's only World Cup win over India&nbsp;during the 2021 T20 World Cup, stated that his countrymen should treat the India game as only one match and their aim is to win the ODI World Cup title.&nbsp;

"We should stop thinking and concentrating on just India versus Pakistan match because that’s just one game. We need to focus our thoughts on how to win the World Cup, and as a team, this will be our aim," Afridi was quoted as saying in a report by&nbsp;Cricket Pakistan. Speaking about the India-Pak battle, the two teams will face off at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad on October 15.

The tournament will kick off with defending champions England facing New Zealand on October 05, in Ahmedabad, whereas India will meet Australia in their opening game, on October 08, in Chennai. On the other hand, Pakistan will meet Qualifier 1 (either Netherlands or Scotland) on October 06 in Hyderabad.

Afridi, 23, is one of the most important players in Babar Azam-led Pakistan line-up. In the recent past, the speedster has been injured -- since the 2022 T20 World Cup final -- but is now fully fit and put on a splendid show in the Vitality Blast. He is now gearing up for Pakistan's two-match Test series versus Sri Lanka&nbsp;in the island nation, which starts on July 16. Ahead of the series opener, Shaheen revealed that he is fully fit.

Stop concentrating on India vs Pakistan: Shaheen Afridi says winning CWC'23 is Babar & Co's main aim

India and Pakistan are set to lock horns in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition, later this year in October-November. So far, India have been unbeaten versus their arch-rivals in the 50-over mega event. They enjoy a 7-0 winning streak over the Men in Green and Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. will be eager to keep their record intact as the two teams will meet at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad on October on October 15.&nbsp;

Ahead of the marquee clash, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly opined on the India-Pakistan games and made a big statement. Speaking to on Star Sports, Ganguly said, "There is a lot of hype in this match but the quality has not been that good for a long time because India kept on winning one-sided. Pakistan probably defeated India for the first time in the T20 World Cup in Dubai."

Ganguly's remark made heads turn but he probably was talking about the Indo-Pak World Cup clashes. In both ODI and T20 WCs, India have been at their dominant best versus Pakistan. They lead Pakistan 7-0 in ODI WC and have a 6-1 lead in T20 WC history. However, Pakistan have made amends in the previous few face-offs. They beat India by 180 runs in the 2017 Champions Trophy final and thrashed them by ten wickets in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Moreover, the two sides met in last year's Asia Cup where both won a game each. The two encounters saw a last-over finish.

In addition, India and Pakistan played a humdinger in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia where Virat Kohli's masterclass led to Men in Blue's thrilling win. Thus, former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has now reacted to Ganguly's remark.&nbsp;

<h2>'Ganguly is trying to play mind games'</h2>

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Basit said, "I don't agree with him saying that India vs Pakistan matches are one-sided in favour of India. No doubt you have beaten us a lot in ICC World Cups before but that hasn't been the case since 2017. We beat India at the T20 World Cup in UAE and last year in the Asia Cup, won one, lost one. Yes, India defeated Pakistan at the T20 World Cup in Australia but that was purely because of Virat Kohli. He won it single-handedly. Clearly the best-ever T20 innings."

Further, Basit also responded to Ganguly claiming that India versus Australia games have better quality. Ganguly had stated, "India vs Australia tends to be a better game in the World Cup because the quality is better'. To this, the former Pakistani cricketer said, "He also said that India vs Australia is a bigger crowd puller than India vs Pakistan. To that, I would just want to say that 'Brother, when India plays Australia, are roads in your country empty? No. They are empty whenever there's an India-Pakistan match - both in India and in Pakistan. Everyone is glued to their TV screen and are praying. Look at the ticket prices for the World Cup; India-Australia costs are nowhere close to India-Pakistan's. So I feel that Ganguly - DADA ji - is just trying to play mind games."

It will be interesting to see what happens when the two sides meet in this year's ODI WC in India. Before they, they will also meet in the Asia Cup (possibly on three occasions). Overall, the arch-rivals have a chance to lock horns on five instances this year. Thus, some blockbuster games are on the cards.

So far, India have been unbeaten versus their arch-rivals in the 50-over mega event. They enjoy a 7-0 winning streak over the Men in Green and Rohit Sharma & Co. will be eager to keep their record intact as the two teams will meet at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad on October on October 15. Pakistan probably defeated India for the first time in the T20 World Cup in Dubai." Ganguly's remark made heads turn but he probably was talking about the Indo-Pak World Cup clashes. In addition, India and Pakistan played a humdinger in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia where Virat Kohli's masterclass led to Men in Blue's thrilling win. Thus, former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has now reacted to Ganguly's remark. 'Ganguly is trying to play mind games' Speaking on his YouTube channel, Basit said, "I don't agree with him saying that India vs Pakistan matches are one-sided in favour of India. Clearly the best-ever T20 innings." Also Read: Explained: How West Indies failed to bag an ODI World Cup ticket with debacle in the qualifiers Further, Basit also responded to Ganguly claiming that India versus Australia games have better quality. So I feel that Ganguly - DADA ji - is just trying to play mind games." It will be interesting to see what happens when the two sides meet in this year's ODI WC in India. Before they, they will also meet in the Asia Cup (possibly on three occasions). Overall, the arch-rivals have a chance to lock horns on five instances this year. Thus, some blockbuster games are on the cards. He's playing mind games: Ex-Pak batter on Sourav Ganguly's 'IND-PAK matches are one-sided' remark

One of India’s greatest captains Sourav Ganguly, who during his time faced peak Australia and most star-studded Pakistan team, opines that India-Pakistan clashes nowadays are more about hype than quality because of India’s one-sided domination in head-to-head matches at ICC events in recent past.

One of India’s greatest captains Sourav Ganguly, who during his time faced peak Australia and most star-studded Pakistan team, opines that India-Pakistan clashes nowadays are more about hype than quality because of India’s one-sided domination in head-to-head matches at ICC events in recent past. Ganguly’s comments came following the CWC 2023 schedule announcement, wherein India will face arch-rivals Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15. Although recent history suggests something else as Pakistan claimed their first win over India in the T20 World Cup in 2021, defeating them by a record ten wickets in Dubai. Meanwhile, during the 2022 edition in Australia, India won the close tie at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) by five wickets, thanks to an incredible match-winning 82* by star batter Virat Kohli. ALSO READ: Ashes: Oz head coach throws weight behind Lord's show, says he's disappointed with McCullum's 'beer' comment However, in the 50-over World Cups, India has won every time, from first beating them in 1992 in Australia to clinching victory in the previous edition in England. As things stand, India lead the head-to-head tally 8-0. "There is a lot of hype in this match, but the quality has not been that good for a long time because India kept on winning one-sided. Pakistan probably defeated India for the first time in the T20 World Cup in Dubai," said the former Indian captain on Star Sports, as quoted by Hindustan Times. India-Australia clash holds more value Following India's trophy-winning spree from 2007 to 2013, India-Australia contests were the ones to look out for. Having attained superb results in away Tests on two occasions – in 2018 and 2020, India has dominated Australia lately. With these two star-studded teams set to kick-off their respective CWC campaigns with the game in Chennai on October 8, Ganguly feels this match will garner attention on the quality-cricket ground. With Australia drawing first blood in their recent WTC Final in London earlier, India will have revenge on their mind heading into the vital World Cup match. "India did not play well in that tournament (2021 T20 WC), but according to me, India vs Australia tends to be a better game in the World Cup because the quality is better," Ganguly added. Meanwhile, India will face Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka from August 31 to September 17, while the Men in Blue will host Australia for a three-match series just before the start of the World Cup on October 5. CWC'23: India-Pakistan matches lack quality, it's just about hype: Ganguly

India and Pakistan squared off in the ICC ODI World Cup 2011 semi-finals in Mohali on March 30. The momentum shifted from one team to the other before MS Dhoni-led Men in Blue won by 29 runs to book a place in the final, where they defeated Sri Lanka to win the World Cup at home.&nbsp;

Talking about the match, India opted to bat first and rode on Sachin Tendulkar's 85, Suresh Raina's handy 36* and Virender Sehwag's quickfire 38 to post 260 for 9. In reply, Shahid Afridi-led Men in Green were bundled out for 231 to bow out. During the Indian innings, Tendulkar gave plenty of chances to the opposition but their sloppy fielding cost them dearly. In addition, the Master Blaster seemed lbw off Saeed Ajmal, in the 11th over, but they reviewed and survived a close call.&nbsp;

A lot has been said and written about the controversial lbw appeal. Post the semi-final loss in 2011, Ajmal,&nbsp;after reaching Lahore, had said, "I don't know how the television replays showed my delivery turning towards the leg side because I had bowled an arm ball and it went straight."

12 years have gone by since the epic Indo-Pak World Cup semi-final. However, the former Pakistan spinner Ajmal once again recalled the lbw appeal, which went against his side and made a big claim.

<h2>'They had cut two frames to make it look like ball missed the stumps'</h2>

Speaking on the&nbsp;Nadir Ali Podcast, Ajmal recalled,&nbsp;"We played the 2011 World Cup, you must remember the incident with Sachin Tendulkar. The LBW decision that was overturned. The controversy about it is still going on. It was out. Both, umpire and I knew it was out. They had cut two frames to make it look like ball missed the stumps. Otherwise, it would've hit the stumps in the middle."

Later this year, India will host the ODI World Cup -- after 2011 -- and lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. Pakistan will be desperate to settle scores this time around and win their first game versus their neighbours in the tournament history whereas Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. will look to maintain their clean slate versus the Men in Green. Currently, India lead Pakistan 7-0 in ODI WC history.

Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq revealed he and all-format captain Babar Azam, before 2010, used to talk about playing in India and doing something special there. Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq revealed he and all-format captain Babar Azam, before 2010, used to talk about playing in India and doing something special there. As India and Pakistan gear up for the marquee clash in the upcoming World Cup 2023 on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the ranked number four batter in the world feels this current Pakistan ODI line-up is the best in the country’s recent history. Following the World Cup schedule announcement past Tuesday in Mumbai, the buzz for the World Cup 2023, especially the high-octane India-Pakistan game, went to another level. “Playing in India, especially against India and doing something special (was something) which Babar and I were discussing before 2010,” Imam said during a chat with Pakistan’s YouTube channel Grassroots Cricket. ALSO READ: BCCI welcomes Dream11 as lead sponsor for Indian Cricket Team on three-year deal: Board President Having attained success since the 2019 World Cup, Pakistan’s ODI outfit is one to look out for during the mega event in India. Speaking on the same lines, Imam said this is the most compatible team and going by their recent record of chasing 300-plus totals in their country and South Africa, Pakistan can will the 10-team tournament for the first time since 1992. “I really believe our one-day team is the most compatible and balanced team. The combination is similar to 2019. Whenever you give opportunities to players, performances will come. We have chased 350 here (in Pakistan), we’ve scored 330 in South Africa, we won the series there.” “So yes, everybody is excited. A bit nervous as well, I won’t lie. This team can do wonders, and it would be good for our nation if we win the World Cup in India,” Imam added. 'I am a mature player now' Having opened during the previous edition in England in 2019, the left-handed batter feels he has come a long way as a batter since then. Averaging just over 51 in ODIs, Imam said he is more mature as a batter, and as a senior, he has responsibility on his shoulders too. “Yes, I really believe. If I ask myself, if I see in the mirror, Imam-ul-Haq is very different from 2019 to 2023. I’m older, much more mature,” he said. “And as a senior, now I have the responsibility. I’ve developed my shots as well. From last four years, my performances have gone up to a good level, so I want to continue that.” Meanwhile, Pakistan is set to travel to Sri Lanka for a bilateral series and will participate in Asia Cup 2023, a six-team event co-hosted by them and Sri Lanka from August 31 to September 17. The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Tuesday (June 27), released the full schedule for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup in India. Rohit Sharma-led India will open their campaign on October 08, in Chennai, as they face Australia, whereas defending champions England will open their tournament by locking horns with last edition's runners-up New Zealand on October 05 in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, the much-awaited India-Pakistan clash is set to take place on October 15 in Ahmedabad.

The last time both sides faced each other in an ICC event&nbsp;was during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. Back then, Rohit &amp; Co. emerged on top on the last ball by four wickets in a chase of 160 at the MCG, Melbourne. Opting to bowl first, India rode on Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya's three-for each to restrict Pakistan at 159 for 8. In reply, India were on the back foot and reduced to 31 for 4 before Virat Kohli's masterclass (82 not out) and Hardik Pandya's 40 (37) to chase down the target on the last delivery of the contest.

With two needed off the last two balls, India lost Dinesh Karthik as R Ashwin joined Kohli in the middle. A wide from off-spinner Mohammed Nawaz led to scores being levelled before Ashwin punched one down the ground,&nbsp;over mid-off, for a four as India won on the last ball of the contest. Recently, the 36-year-old Ashwin recalled India's famous win over arch-rivals Pakistan&nbsp;and shared what advice he got from Kohli and how he won the game for his side.

<h2>'The moment Md Nawaz bowled a wide I knew I had won the contest'</h2>

Speaking to ICC, Ashwin said, "Virat just gave me like seven options to play off that one ball. If only I was that capable of playing all those shots I wouldn't be batting at no. 8. I just talked to myself, I couldn't say that to him. I looked at Virat and his eyes seemed like he was possessed. I said, okay he's on another planet and let me come back to earth. The moment he bowled a wide I knew I had won the contest."

"I think cricket in so many ways is going to give you a lot of messages that way. So that's where I brought my positivity from. I knew I'd won the game," stated Ashwin.

Recalling his winning shot, the off-spinner added, "I think about it every night when I go to sleep. To be honest, what happens&nbsp;every time I see a video on social media, I think about it, what if the ball had just gripped and hit my pad? It was pretty close for comfort. I just felt that the game was meant to be finished by me. That's how I felt honestly. Terrific innings by Virat and one of the better games I've watched and been a part of."

Virat Kohli seemed possessed: R Ashwin recalls India's last-over win vs Pakistan in 2022 T20 WC

On Tuesday (June 27), the International Cricket Council (ICC) released the full schedule of the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 edition, to be held in India in October-November. After the schedule was made official, the Pakisan Cricket Board (PCB) said that it requires clearance from the government to take part in the mega event in India. Now, the ICC has responded to PCB's statement and stated that they are confident of the 1992 winner's participation in the showpiece event in the subcontinent.

<h2>'We are confident Pakistan will be in India for CWC'23'</h2>

"Pakistan have signed a participation agreement to compete and we expect them to be there and have had no indications to the contrary," an ICC statement said on the matter. "All members have to abide by the rules and the laws of their country and we respect that. But we're confident Pakistan will be in India for the Men's Cricket World Cup," added the statement.

It is to be noted that the PCB&nbsp;statement came following the schedule announcement. "The PCB requires the Government of Pakistan's clearance for any tour to India, including the match venues. We are liaising with our government for guidance, and as soon as we hear something from them, we will update the Event Authority (ICC). This position is consistent with what we had told the ICC a couple of weeks ago when they shared with us the draft schedule and sought our feedback," said the PCB statement.

The ODI World Cup schedule came out only 100 days before the tournament's commencement. As per reports, one of the main reasons for the delay was PCB's requests for venue changes. The Pakistani board wanted venues to be shifted for their games versus Afghansitan (Chennai) and Australia (Bengaluru). They wanted the venues to be swapped for the two games whereas they also raised concerns on playing India in Ahmedabad on October 15.&nbsp;

Nonetheless, none of PCB's reported requests were accepted as ICC and BCCI released the schedule earlier this week. Pakistan will open their campaign versus Qualifier 1 in Hyderabad on October 06 and meet arch-rivals India on October 15.&nbsp;

He also added the surge in demand for the luxury hotels is mainly due to NRIs and upper middle-class people living in nearby cities or states who would be travelling for the match. Deshmukh noted budget hotels in the city are yet to see this rise in fares because the middle-class people, who would be deciding to stay there at the last moment.

Once the demand drops, the room rentals will also come down." India will be playing at nine different venues at the ODI World Cup this October and November with nine league matches on offer. The round-robin format will see India as one of the favourites to clinch the tournament. The last three editions of the ODI World Cup have been won by the host nations, including India in 2011. Rohit Sharma will look to replicate his form from the 2019 World Cup where he led the nation to the semifinal of the tournament.

<h2>Rohit’s incredible 2019 World Cup</h2>

In the 2019 edition of the World Cup, Rohit will be seen enjoying the form of his career as he struck five hundreds before India were eliminated in the semifinals stage by New Zealand. Rohit scored hundreds at four different grounds and ended as the tournament’s highest scorer with 648 runs in nine matches. The Mumbai Indians skipper missed one league match but still ended as the top scorer with an average of 81 and a best of 140 against Pakistan in Manchester. He also scored a fifty as well in the tournament to take his tally of fifty-plus scores to six.

ODI World Cup: Rohit underlines big challenge before showpiece event - 'it is going to be very competitive'

ICC ODI World Cup 2023’s full schedule has not even been officially announced but already much has been said and written about the tournament. India will be hosting the mega event in October. Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board requested the International Cricket Council and the Board of Control for Cricket India to change the venue of their games. Earlier, former PCB chairman Ramiz Raza had also expressed his wish for Pakistan not to travel to India for the ODI World Cup 2023. This statement was made after the BCCI made it clear that the Indian team will not travel to the neighbouring country for the next edition of the Asia Cup. While speaking on his YouTube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his views on PCB’s venue-changing request.

<h2>Ravichandran Ashwin: ICC unlikely to pay heed to the request</h2>

Ravichandran Ashwin broke his silence on the PCB’s request to change the venue and said that the International Cricket Council would not agree to Pakistan’s request. The veteran Indian spinner said that given the nature of the reason, ICC is unlikely to pay heed to the request. He also added that only if Pakistan cited security reasons, then maybe they had a chance of getting the venue swapped.

For the unversed, something similar had happened during the 2016 T20 World. The India vs Pakistan encounter was shifted from Dharamshala to Kolkata. Ashwin further said that PCB has mentioned in their request letter that conditions will favour Afghanistan in Chennai. Hence, now the changing of venue also indicates that it plays into an advantage for Pakistan.

"Pakistan, in their request letter itself, have mentioned that conditions will favor Afghanistan in Chennai. So, by changing venues, it plays into an advantage for Pakistan. So, I highly doubt that ICC will heed to this request. Maybe if Pakistan have given some valid security reasons, then it might be shifted,” Ashwin said.

<h2>ICC ODI World Cup 2023: Pakistan’s schedule</h2>

The official schedule for the World Cup mega event is not&nbsp;out yet. The International Cricket Council is expected to make the official announcement on June 27. This means that the fixture schedule will be out exactly 100 days before the start of the tournament.

If reports are to be believed then, Pakistan will kickstart their campaign against Australia. The match may be played at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium on October 20, followed by Pakistan vs Afghanistan at Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, three days later. PCB has requested a venue swap for these two matches.

World Cup 2023: Ravichandran Ashwin opens up on PCB’s request to swap venues

Zaka Ashraf, who is likely to be the next chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has waded into a controversy. Ashraf had rejected Najam Sethi's hybrid model for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. It seems like now he has undergone a change of heart. Zaka Ashraf had said he didn’t agree with the hybrid model during a media interview on Wednesday, triggering controversy over whether talks will resume regarding the specifics of the Asia Cup 2023 or not. But in a later turn of events, he told ESPNcricinfo that the decision has been made, so they will go ahead with it. The Asia Cup is to be held in Sri Lanka and Pakistan in September.

Zaka Ashraf’s change of heart

Zaka Ashraf said as quoted by Sports Inside, “In my personal opinion, this whole hybrid model is not beneficial for Pakistan and I did not like it. Being a host, Pakistan should have negotiated better to ensure that the entire tournament is played in Pakistan. Sri Lanka is taking a large number of matches and Pakistan has only four matches, which is not in our country's interest."
Zaka Ashraf said that since the decision has been taken, they will have to abide by it. “I don't have any intention of non-compliance. I can't do anything about it now other than honouring the commitment. But going forward, whatever decision we take will be in the interest of the country."

Earlier, Zaka Ashraf had also said in a press conference in Islamabad on Wednesday that he rejects the hybrid model of Asia Cup 2023 because he does not agree with it. He had also claimed that the board of the Asian Cricket Council had decided that the tournament should be held in India.&nbsp;

Asia Cup 2023: Good news for Indian fans

There’s also good news for the Indian fans ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will most probably feature in the three-match T20 series against Ireland in August. Bumrah, who has not played since a T20I game against Australia in September last year, is recovering well from injury and could be at his peak fitness when he returns to the team.

Bumrah has been under the supervision of National Cricket Academy President VVS Laxman and Head Sports Science and Medicine Department Nitin Patel. This year, Bumrah attempted to make a comeback for the home series against Sri Lanka in January, but ongoing back problems derailed his plans, leaving him with no option but to undergo surgery a few months later.

The drama over Pakistan and its stance on the Asia Cup 2023 doesn’t seem to be ending soon. Zaka Ashraf, who is likely to be the next PCB chairman, has changed his opinion on the hybrid model.

Asia Cup 2023 Venue: Reports claim Zaka Ashraf takes U-turn on hybrid model

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) recently announced that the next edition of the Asia Cup will be hosted in a hybrid model, which was originally proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The Asia Cup logjam may now have been broken but uncertainty still seems to be looming large over Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup, scheduled to be played in India later this year. Despite PCB’s hybrid model being accepted by ACC, it is still not clear whether Pakistan will travel to its neighbouring nation to take part in the 50-over World Cup. It is understood that PCB was reluctant after Ahmedabad’s name started doing the rounds as a potential venue for the high-voltage India-Pakistan clash. Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has now opened up on the highly contentious matter. Taking a dig at the cricket board, the former all-rounder slammed PCB’s denial to play at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

<h2>What did Shahid Afridi say?</h2>

“Why are they declining to play on Ahmedabad pitches? Does it hurl fire or is it haunted? Go and play - go, play and win. If these are the foreseen challenges, then the only way to overcome them is through a comprehensive victory. What matters at the end of the day is the Pakistan team's win. The crux only and only lies in there. Take this rather positively. If they [India] are comfortable there, you should go, pull a victory in front of packed Indian crowd and show them what you got," Shahid Afridi reportedly said while speaking on Samaa TV.

<h2>World Cup 2023: &nbsp;India vs Pakistan possible venue</h2>

According to multiple reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sent a final draft of the World Cup schedule. The electrifying India-Pakistan World Cup fixture will reportedly take place on October 15. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has, however, not announced the official schedule yet.

India and Pakistan, the two arch-rivals, had last faced at a 50-over World Cup in 2019. The rain-curtailed game, which took place in Manchester, ended in India’s favour. Chasing a revised target of 302 in 40 overs, Pakistan could only manage to reach 212. Rohit Sharma was adjudged Man of the Match in that fixture for pulling off a sublime knock of 140.

India will face Pakistan on October 15 in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup in Ahmedabad with England vs New Zealand game set to kick off the quadrennial tournament from October 5. India, the host country for the ODI WC, will start their campaign against Australia on October 8, as per the draft prepared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The developments were reported by ESPNCricinfo, which also said that the BCCI shared the draft with the ICC which then forwarded the schedule to rest of the countries to have a look before the final schedule is out. The confirmation about the World Cup schedule is expected as early as next week, the report further stated.

As per the report, India will play their matches across nine venues during the league phase and here's their itinerary:

<h2>Unprecedented delay in announcing schedule</h2>

Notably, never in the history of the marquee tournament has there been such delay in announcing the schedule. The same for the last two editions was announced one year in advance. BCCI secretary Jay Shah, on May 27, had said that the schedule would be announced during the World Test Championship (WTC) Final. ICC CEO Geoff Allardice too, on the first day of WTC Final, had said that the schedule would be announced 'anytime soon,' while speaking on BBC's Test Match Special. Nonetheless, the schedule seems all but certainty now with draft being out.&nbsp;

<h2>Pakistan set to play at five venues</h2>

Apart from their clash against India, Pakistan will face two qualifier teams on October 6 and 12 in Hyderabad before facing Australia in Bengaluru on October 20. Pakistan, who had earlier threatened to boycott over Asia Cup hosting, will then be facing Afghanistan and South Africa in Chennai on October 23 and 27, respectively. The final three matches of Asia Cup hosts are set to be played in Kolkata on October 31, Bengaluru on November 5 and Kolkata again on November 12 against Bangladesh, New Zealand and England, respectively.

ICC CEO Geoff Allardice too, on the first day of WTC Final, had said that the schedule would be announced 'anytime soon,' while speaking on BBC's Test Match Special. Nonetheless, the schedule seems all but certainty now with draft being out. Pakistan set to play at five venues Apart from their clash against India, Pakistan will face two qualifier teams on October 6 and 12 in Hyderabad before facing Australia in Bengaluru on October 20. Pakistan, who had earlier threatened to boycott over Asia Cup hosting, will then be facing Afghanistan and South Africa in Chennai on October 23 and 27, respectively. World Cup Tentative Schedule: India vs Pakistan likely on October 15, Check India's matches as per draft

Virender Sehwag has called ex-Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq the best middle-order batter from Asia. Speaking his heart out on Gaurav Kapoor’s Breakfast with Champions YouTube show, the former India batter said people talk about legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, but to him, Inzamam was as good as any batter from this part of the world.

Sehwag said since Sachin is not counted among the rest as the India batter is the greatest-ever, Inzamam, off all the other middle-order batters from Asia, stands out as the best.

“Everyone talks about Sachin Tendulkar, but Inzamam-Ul-Haq is Asia’s biggest middle-order batsman,” Sehwag told Gaurav Kapoor on Breakfast with Champions.
“See, Tendulkar was above the league of batsmen. So he doesn’t count. But when it comes to the most superior-middle order batsman across India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, I have never seen anyone better than him (Inzamam),” Sehwag added.

Elaborating on what made him call Inzamam the best, Sehwag said unlike other batters or captains during the early 2000s, Inzamam was not afraid of chasing down huge totals – even if the run rate is above eight.

A World Cup winner with Pakistan, Inzamam had scored over 10,000 runs in ODIs and was instrumental in leading Pakistan to heights during that era. Speaking on the same lines, Sehwag said,

“In that era – 2003-04 – he used to talk about scoring eight an over. He would say, ‘Don’t worry. We’ll score easily. 80 required in 10 overs, any other players would panic, but he was always confident,” Viru said.

<h2>When Sehwag asked Inzamam to make field changes</h2>

Having detailed everyone on this specific incident a few times before, Sehwag again pulled attention to this hilarious incident where he being an opposition player, asked Pakistan captain Inzamam to make field changes during a Test in 2005.

Sehwag revealed while playing Danish Kaneria, he asked Inzamam to bring a fielder up so he could hit him for a six. Surprisingly, the Pakistan captain took that as a challenge and made the necessary field change, leading to what Sehwag had promised him.

“It was in 2005. Kaneria (Danish) was bowling round the wickets right at my pads. They were trying to stop me from scoring. I played an over or two defensively. I said to him, ‘Inzy bhai, it’s been a while. Now my legs are also hurting… How long should i stretch and take it on my pads?

“I told him to call the long-on fielder inside the circle. He asked me what I’d do then. I said that I’d hit a six. He said ‘your are joking.’ I said, ‘sent the fielder back if I don’t hit a six,” Sehwag said.

“He agreed and called the fielder closer. Kaneria bowled a googly. He didn’t know about this and I hit the googly for a six over long-on. Kaneria got angry. He said, ‘Inzi bhai, why did you bring the fielder up?’ Inzamam told him; ‘Be quiet, you don’t know what’s going on here…Go back and bowl. Otherwise, I’ll send you out from the ground."
