Confident India hoping to turn tables on Pakistan in T20 World Cup clash

Pakistan cricket legend Javed Miandad has slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over its stand on the Asia Cup 2023 after Jsecretary Jay Shah's recent comments. BCCI secretary and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Shah kicked up a storm in the cricket fraternity with his recent comments as he made it clear India won't travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup next year.

Shah said the tournament will be shifted to a neutral venue despite Pakistan currently holding the hosting rights for Asia Cup 2023. His statement has been criticised by several former Pakistan cricketers, who have slammed the BCCI for refusing to travel to the country for the tournament.

Some have also urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to boycott the ODI World Cup in India next year as a mark of protest if the Asia Cup is shifted from Pakistan. Miandad became the latest to join the bandwagon and said Asia Cup should be scrapped if the tournament cannot be hosted by Pakistan. He also urged the BCCI to not bring politics into cricket.

"What's the point of ICC? Scrap the Asia Cup if that's the case. We are in Asia. We will only benefit from playing each other. You shouldn't bring politics into cricket. I request every one for the sake of players. This pick-and-choose is wrong, you should stop playing cricket otherwise," said Miandad.

The overall impact of such statements have the potential to split the Asian and international cricketing communities, and can impact Pakistan’s visit to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and future ICC Events in India in the 2024-2031 cycle. While the ACC is yet to discuss the matter in detail and decide on the venue, it has been confirmed that the next edition of the continental tournament will once again be held at a neutral place; as was the case for this year's edition.

Following Jay Shah's revelation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly threatened to pull out of the 2023 ODI World Cup, to be held in India, if India do not travel to Pakistan for the 50-over Asia Cup next year. "The PCB is now prepared to take hard decisions and play hardball because it is also aware that the ICC and ACC events will have to face commercial liabilities and losses if Pakistan does not play India in these multi-team events," a senior PCB source told PTI.

"The PCB is wondering in what capacity has Jay Shah given the statement that the ACC will look to relocate the Asia Cup to UAE out of Pakistan because the hosting rights were awarded by the executive board of the ACC not the President," the PCB source further asserted.

From India's perspective, Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar shared five scalps in between.&nbsp;

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday announced the complete schedule for the Women's T20 World Cup 2023. The tournament is set to be played in South Africa in February next year. India have been placed in Group 2 along with England, West Indies, Pakistan and Ireland.&nbsp;

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan in Cape Town on February 12 before locking horns with West Indies at the same venue on February 15. India will then take on England and Ireland on February 18 and 20, respectively.

All eyes will be on Cape Town on February 12 as India will resume their&nbsp;epic rivalry with Pakistan. The two teams last met in the T20 World Cup earlier this year where Harmanpreet &amp; Co. registered a comfortable victory. India and are also set to face Pakistan in the ongoing Women's Asia Cup 2022 in Bangladesh on Friday (October 07).

Hosts South Africa will face Sri Lanka in the opening game of the tournament in Cape Town on February 10. ICC announces schedule for Women's T20 World Cup 2023, India to open campaign against Pakistan

England and Wales Cricket Board has informally offered to be the hosts if India and Pakistan plan to play a bilateral Test series but BCCI sources said chances of that happening in near future is "next to nil".

The UK daily 'Telegraph' reported that "Martin Darlow, the deputy chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board, has held talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board during the current Twenty20 series and offered England's grounds as venues for ideally a three-match Test series in future."

While the ECB has made the offer for its own commercial gains, the powers that be in the BCCI laughed off the suggestions and said that no such possibilities might arise at least in the next few years.

"Firstly, ECB spoke to PCB about an Indo-Pak series and that's a bit weird. In any case, a series against Pakistan is not something that the BCCI will decide but it is the decision of the government. As of now, the stance remains the same. We only play Pakistan at multi-team events," a senior BCCI official privy to India's position told PTI on Tuesday.

India and Pakistan last played a short bilateral white-ball series back in 2012 in India and the last Test series dates back to 2007.

With the tense political relations between the neighbours, it is a big 'No' from BCCI irrespective of whether it is played at home, away or a neutral venue.

"The matches would attract big crowds in the UK, which has a large ex-pat south Asian population," it said.

"The matches attract huge sponsorship revenue and television audiences."

However, the paper made it clear that even "PCB is not keen on playing India at neutral venue but are grateful for the ECB's offer, which shows the growing relationship between the two boards."

It stated that with the big nations again starting to tour Pakistan, it will be a "retrograde step in their eyes" if they happen to play on a neutral venue.

England 'offers' to be neutral venue for India-Pakistan Test series, BCCI 'not interested'

Rohit Sharma-led India were favourites to win the Asia Cup, held in the UAE from August 27-September 11. Rohit &amp; Co. topped their group and stormed into the Super Four. However, what followed was sheer disappointment from thereon. India lost their opening two fixtures in the Super Four round, losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka respectively, to bow out of the multi-nation tournament without featuring in the final.&nbsp;

The summit clash was held between Pakistan and Sri Lanka which saw the Dasun Shanaka-led Islanders emerge on top by 23 runs, at the iconic Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Nonetheless, with India not even reaching the finale, it was a forgettable campaign for the Men in Blue. Recently, former Pakistan cricketer Bazid Khan shifted the blame on India's famed top three -- Rohit, vice-captain KL Rahul and Virat Kohli -- to not hit the ground running together from the first game itself; causing India's downfall in the continental tournament.

"India, I thought. I mean Kohli got a hundred in the last game although he was looking good throughout. But India also had the problem that their top-three weren't in form at the start of the tournament, but found form as the tournament progressed. So those three didn't hit the ground running which meant that they lost those games, and all were close matches. And they would look at and think that now with players like Bumrah coming in and working towards that T20 World Cup they are in a better space but I reckon that because a few of their batters weren't in top gear, that was a huge issue," Bazid told in an exclusive interaction with Hindustan Times.

While Kohli ended with 276 runs in the Asia Cup -- second-most overall -- Rahul managed only 132 runs at 122.22 whereas captain Rohit ended with 133 runs, including a 42-ball 71 versus Sri Lanka in the Super Four clash. Rahul managed only one half-century, in the inconsequential tie versus Afghanistan (scoring 62) whereas Hitman was also slow to get going. Kohli looked in good touch throughout -- barring the Sri Lanka encounter -- but his strike rate increased considerably in India's last game, versus the Afghans, where he slammed a breathtaking 61-ball 122 not out.

Further, Bazid lauded India's aggressive approach with the bat in the shortest format, ahead of next month's T20 World Cup in Australia. In this regard, he pointed out, "That's the way forward. The government must make it clear to Amazon that predatory pricing practices will not be allowed in India. Having said that, it's a good thing that Amazon is interested in India.

It shows that there is global optimism on India's consumption and economy and more investments would only accelerate the economic revival.

India is home to the world's fastest-growing e-commerce market, second-biggest smartphone user base. India's export market could also improve drastically with investments from platforms like Amazon.&nbsp;

The need of the hour is the balance. Small businesses are crucial for the long-term health of the Indian economy. Moreover, small businesses will promote local innovation.
