Anyone who has followed Amazon's India strategy will not be surprised by the latest investment offer of its CEO Jeff Bezos.

Six years ago, the same Jeff Bezos promised to invest $2 billion in India. Now, it's $1 billion.

But as we have seen, the small traders view Amazon as a monopoly. They are worried about their livelihood.

This leads to several complex questions - can India strike a balance between big-ticket investments and small businesses? if the answer is yes, then how can India achieve the balance?

While the digitisation of Indian businesses is a welcome step, the question is - what is Amazon's profit in this?

Already, India's small retailers blame Amazon and Walmart for offering deep discounts. For consumers, deep discounts are good news, but it sounds a death-knell for small businesses who struggle to compete with 'giant' discounts.

Unless the government brings in pricing regulations on online retail business, this problem will continue, with or without Amazon.

Amazon and Walmart have already been accused of violating India foreign investment rules. There are also doubts over how firms like Amazon use consumer data.

The government must make it clear to Amazon that predatory pricing practices will not be allowed in India. Having said that, it's a good thing that Amazon is interested in India.

It shows that there is global optimism on India's consumption and economy and more investments would only accelerate the economic revival.

India is home to the world's fastest-growing e-commerce market, second-biggest smartphone user base. India's export market could also improve drastically with investments from platforms like Amazon.

The need of the hour is the balance. Small businesses are crucial for the long-term health of the Indian economy. Moreover, small businesses will promote local innovation.

The government needs to approach this situation in a graded manner by setting pricing norms, incentivising small businesses while also enhancing the synergies through investments from Amazon.

While Jeff Bezos makes his sweet offers, it is important for the government to understand a simple fact - the mood among small retailers should not be allowed to turn sour and bitter.

Shahid Afridi makes heads turn, reveals his daughter was 'waving Indian flag' during Indo-Pak Super 4 tie

Virat Kohli is regarded as one of the greatest batters to have played the game and is often pipped against his contemporaries when it comes to the debate over the best in the world. Kohli has been one of the most prolific run-getters for India over the years and has already established his credentials as one of the best of all time.

Despite his lean patch in international cricket over the last few months, Kohli's numbers remained world-class and it was only a matter of time before he returned to form in the Asia Cup 2022. The former India captain rediscovered his old mojo in the Asia Cup with back-to-back fifties and a much-awaited 71st international century.

Kohli notched up a fantastic knock of 122 runs against Afghanistan to bring an end to his nearly three-year-long wait for an international hundred and joined Ricky Ponting at the second spot on the list of batters with the most number of centuries in international cricket. While Kohli went on a redemption journey, his competitor Babar Azam suffered a dip in form in the Asia Cup.

The duo share a great rapport with each other but the Pakistan captain has often been compared against Kohli for his batting exploits across formats for the Men in Green. Babar has not been at his best in the Asia Cup with only 64 runs in five matches so far.

Ahead of the final between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Pakistan head coach Saqlain Mushtaq was asked for his take on the Kohli vs Babar debate. While he picked the Pakistan skipper over the Indian batting maestro, Mushtaq admitted Kohli has a special place in his heart.

"Definitely Babar kahunga... but Virat mere dil ke bohot karib hai (I will definitely pick Babar, but Virat is close to my heart).

With over 24,000 runs in international cricket, Kohli is already cunted among the legends of the game and Babar has a long way to go if he needs to come close to the former India captain. Babar has been among the most consistent batters across formats in the last few years but he will have to continue performing at the same level for a number of years to match Kohli.

Babar will be looking to bounce back to form and make an impactful contribution when Pakistan lock horns with Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday. Pakistan last won the tournament in 2012 while Sri Lanka have not won the title since 2014.

What went wrong for Rohit Sharma-led India in Asia Cup 2022?

Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar opined on Rohit Sharma and his captaincy as Team India crashed out of the Asia Cup 2022. After India's six-wicket loss to Sri Lanka on Tuesday (September 6) in the Super Four clash, the Men in Blue were on the brink of elimination and were finally ousted with Pakistan's one-wicket win over Afghanistan in a thriller on Wednesday (September 7).

Talking about India-Sri Lanka clash, Rohit-led India were asked to bat first and rode on the captain's 72 and contributions from Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and R Ashwin to post 173-8. However, it wasn't enough as fifties from the Sri Lankan openers Kusal Medis-Pathum Nissanka and captain Dasun Shanaka-Bhanuka Rajapaksa's finishing knocks ensured the Islanders a six-wicket win on the penultimate ball of the contest.

After India's back-to-back defeats in the Super Four, Akhtar commented on their disheartening performances. He feels Asia Cup debacle is a wake-up call for the one-time winners ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup, from October-November in Australia. He also insisted there is no need for a change in captaincy despite heavy criticism of Rohit Sharma but highlighted some concerns for Team India.

"You don't have to change the captain again. Rohit Sharma was looking uncomfortable, he was shouting and screaming. There is uncertainty in the Indian camp. In hindsight, this is a good wake up call for India. Now, India know what their final XI should be, especially with the T20 World Cup coming up," Akhtar said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Can India still qualify for Asia Cup 2022 final? Here are all scenarios explained

India succcumbed to yet another defeat in the Super Four round of the Asia Cup 2022 edition, on Tuesday evening (September 06) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. After losing to Pakistan on September 04 (Sunday), Rohit Sharma-led India were in a must-win scenario when they locked horns with Sri Lanka.

The No. 1 ranked Indian team were expected to go past the Lankans, despite the Pakistan setback, but ended on the losing side after failing to defend 173/8. Being asked to bat first, India rode on Rohit's 71, Suryakumar Yadav's 34, Hardik Pandya-Rishabh Pant's 17 each and R Ashwin's 7-ball 15* to post a competitive score, however, they failed to post anything over 190. In reply, the SL openers Kusal Medis-Pathum Nissanka's fifites and finishing cameos from Shanaka-Bhanuka Rajapaksa propelled the Islanders to a stunning six-wicket win on the penultimate ball of the contest.

After India's defeat, they are very much on the brink of an early elimination. Thus, Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar reacted to Men in Blue's loss and told on his Youtube channel, "I wanted India and Pakistan to play in the final, and I had already bought tickets. I wanted to interact with Indian and Pakistani crowds."

India and Pakistan won't be able to square off once again in the Asia Cup final as the former have one foot on the flight back home. Pakistan, on the other hand, will be through if they beat Afghanistan on Wednesday (September 07). For India to miraculously qualify for the summit clash, they need Pakistan to lose their remaining two games. In addition, the defending champions will have to thrash Afghanistan on Thursday evening (September 08) to keep their hopes alive.

In all scenario, only one of Pakistan or India will qualify for the final, with SL very much confirming one spot after their recent win. Akhtar is now looking forward to India-Pakistan face-off at the 2022 T20 World Cup, to be held at the MCG, Melbourne on October 23. Arshdeep Singh isn't having the best of time at the Asia Cup 2022 edition. While he has been a part of the playing XI in all four games featuring Team India, the 23-year-old had an off-day versus Hong Kong and things have only gone south for him since then.

In India's Super Four clash versus Pakistan, Arshdeep dropped a simple catch of Asif Ali -- who slammed a fine 8-ball 16 and was one of the stars in Men in Green's successful 182-run chase in Dubai. In India's face-off versus Sri Lanka on Tuesday (September 06), at the same venue, Arshdeep conceded quite a few runs in the Men in Blue's defence of 173/8 and also couldn't defend seven off the last over.

Arshdeep has shown a lot of courage to bowl the final over in India's last two outings. Nonetheless, the young pacer couldn't prevent India's back-to-back defeats as they are nearing an early exit. After the thrilling Indo-SL fixture, a spectator crossed his limits and called Arshdeep a 'traitor'. Here's the video of the unfortunate episode:

WATCH: SHOCKING! Spectator calls Arshdeep Singh a 'traitor' after India lose to Sri Lanka in Asia Cup tie

India lost to Sri Lanka in a must-win Super Four clash at the Asia Cup 2022 edition on Tuesday (September 06), at the iconic Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. After losing to Pakistan in their opening clash in the Super Four round, Rohit Sharma & Co. were expected to bounce back over the eighth-ranked Lankans, however, Dasun Shanaka & Co. beat them by six wickets in a pulsating 174-run chase.

Opting to bowl first, Sri Lanka rode on early strikes from Dilshan Madushanka and Maheesh Theekshana before Shanaka and Chamika Karunaratne dented the run-flow in the end overs. Rohit's 41-ball 72 and some contributions from Suryakumar Yadav (34), Rishabh Pant-Hardik Pandya (17 runs a piece) and R Ashwin's 7-ball 15 not out took India to 173/8.

In reply, Kusal Mendis-Pathum Nissanka's half-centuries and Shanaka-Bhanuka Rajapaksha's finishing cameos took SL past the finish line in another last-over thriller in Dubai. With back-to-back defeats, after dominating the group stage, India have one foot on the flight back home. They, however, have a slim chance of making it to the final. Nonetheless, the Men in Blue need a lot of things to fall in their favour.

How can Team India still make it to the final

India will need help from all the other teams in the tournament to remain alive and somehow enter the final.

Sri Lanka: The defending champions will need the Islanders to beat Pakistan by a handsome margin. The Dasun Shanaka-led side are very much through to the final but can keep India alive with a big win over the Men in Green in their remaining fixture in the Super Four.

Pakistan: Babar-led Pakistan have two more games to go. If they win any of them, it will be curtains for India in the tournament. For India to remain alive, they need their arch-rivals to lose to Sri Lanka by a big margin and also succumb to the Afghans, on Wednesday (September 07), by a relatively close margin.

Afghanistan: The Mohammad Nabi-led side also have two games to play. They need to beat Pakistan at any cost for India's hopes to be alive. Later, India will hope to go past the Afghans by a big margin and somehow sneak into the final.

After the loss versus SL, a dejected Rohit said at the post-match presentation, "We just ended up on the wrong side, as simple as that. We could have capitalized on the first half of our innings. We fell 10-15 runs short. The second half wasn't good for us. The guys who were out in the middle can learn about what shots can be played. These things can happen. Losses like these will make us understand what works as a team."

He added, "Since the last World Cup, we haven't lost too many games. These games will teach us. We wanted to put ourselves under pressure in the Asia Cup. We are still looking for answers."

For India to remain alive, they need their arch-rivals to lose to Sri Lanka by a big margin and also succumb to the Afghans, on Wednesday (September 07), by a relatively close margin. EXPLAINED! After losing to Pakistan & Sri Lanka, how India can still qualify for Asia Cup 2022 final

Young Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has been subjected to vicious trolling and abuse online after dropping a sitter against Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022. Arshdeep dropped a simple catch of Pakistan batter Asif Ali as the Babar Azam-led side went on to beat India by five wickets in the Super Four opener.

While some targeted him over his religion, his Wikipedia page was also edited to display fake 'Khalistan' links. While many former cricketers have rallied behind the youngster, the Indian authorities and political leaders have also gotten involved to contain the incessant trolling.

Despite being on the receiving end of horrific abuse, Arshdeep remains unfazed and has not let the trolling get into his head. The Indian cricketer's parents recently revealed the left-arm pacer has not let any of the criticism affect him and is in fact laughing over the tweets and messages on social media over his dropped catch.

“As a parent, it feels really bad. He is only 23. I don’t want to say much about trolls. You can’t shut everyone’s mouth. Without fans, there is no game. There are some who stand by you no matter what and others who can’t digest a single loss. But at the end of the day, only one team can win,” Arshdeep's father Darshan told Indian Express.

“His exact words were, ‘I am laughing at all these tweets and messages. I am only going to take positives from it. This incident has only given me more confidence’,” Arshdeep's father said further.

After dropping Asif's catch in the 18th over of Pakistan's 182-run chase, Arshdeep was called upon by captain Rohit Sharma to bowl the final over of the game with 7 runs to defend. Arshdeep managed to dismiss Ali on the fourth ball but India had left it too late by then as Pakistan went on to win the game with a ball to spare.

Arshdeep Singh's parents reveal what he told them after facing online abuse over dropped catch vs Pakistan

Virat Kohli attended India's post-match press conference after the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue lost to Pakistan, by five wickets, in their Super Four clash at the Asia Cup on Sunday (September 04) in Dubai. After being India's top run-getter (44-ball 60), Kohli's efforts went in vain as Babar Azam-led Pakistan won with Md Rizwan (71), Md Nawaz's 20-ball 42 and late hits from Khusdil Shah-Asif Ali taking the Men in Green past the finish line.

After the high-voltage encounter, Kohli addressed the post-match presser and made a big revelation. When asked to comment on how he dealt with all the talks regarding his form, Kohli stated that he doesn't give a lot of prominence to advice he gets on television and revealed that only MS Dhoni -- among the ex-cricketers -- texted him post his Test captaincy resignation. He meant that such gestures mean a lot more to him than receiving suggestions in front of the whole world.

Ahead of India's Asia Cup Super Four clash versus Sri Lanka, Kohli took to his Instagram handle to probably explain his comments and took a cue from an inspirational quote. He shared a text stating, "Notice the people who are happy for your happiness, and sad for your sadness. They're the ones who deserve special places in your heart.' Kohli shared the same and wrote 'Word.'

At the presser, Kohli had said, "Let me tell you one thing: when I left Test captaincy, I got a message from only one person, with whom I had played previously; that was MS Dhoni. Many people have my number. On TV, people give lots of suggestions, people have a lot to say. But none of the people who had my number sent me a message."

"That respect [with Dhoni], that connection you have with someone, when it is genuine, it shows like this, because there is no insecurity with either of us. Neither does he [Dhoni] need anything from me, nor do I need anything from him. Neither of us suffers from insecurity. I can only say: if I want to say something to someone, I reach out to that person individually if I want to help. I mean, if you give the suggestions in front of the world, it has no value for me. If it is for my improvement, you can talk with me one-on-one, (tell me) that I genuinely want you to do well," the 33-year-old added.

Virat Kohli shares cryptic Instagram story after big revelation on MS Dhoni in Indo-Pak post-match presser

India cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has come down heavily on the trolls targeting Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh over his dropped catch in the Super Four clash against Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday. Arshdeep has been subjected to vicious abuse after his mistake in the game as India lost by five wickets.

Pakistan batter Asif Ali got a reprieve during the 18th over of their 182-run chase against India in Dubai on Sunday when Arshdeep spilt a sitter. It was a routine catch but pressure seemed to have gotten the better of the fast bowler, who dropped a dolly. Ali went on to score 16 runs off 8 balls and take Pakistan home in the last-over thriller.

Arshdeep has since been on the receiving end of merciless trolling and abuse online. Several former cricketers have come out in support of the youngster, including Gavaskar, who lashed out at the trolls stating that they should not be taken seriously.

"No former cricketer has criticised Arshdeep," said during a discussion on Sports Tak. “Who are these people who are critical of Arshdeep? Why do we need to give credence to them? How many of them can catch the ball that flies into the stands? Rarely anyone. So how does their comments matter,” he added.

Further questioning the credentials of those hiding behind their social media accounts and abusing players, Gavaskar said players should avoid letting the unwarranted criticism get to their heads. The former India captain believes a player should take note if a former cricketer says something nasty about them but ignore the trolls.

“I actually don't even know why people take all these people who are commenting adversely seriously. Who are they? If a former player or a fellow player actually says something nasty, something critical, then you take note. You can't ignore that because that person has had the experience of having played the game," said Gavaskar.

“Somebody who has never played the game, somebody, who is hiding behind some anonymous identity, why would you take them seriously," he added.

'How many can catch a ball in the stands?': Sunil Gavaskar lashes out trolls for targeting Arshdeep Singh

India and Pakistan produced another thriller at the Asia Cup 2022 edition -- after the group stage face-off -- in their respective Super Four opening clash on Sunday (September 04). Playing at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, Rohit Sharma-led India were asked to bat first and posted a competitive 181/7 before Md Rizwan's 71, Md Nawaz's 20-ball 42* and Asif Ali's lusty blows took Pakistan past the finish line.

From India's perspective, Yuzvendra Chahal, Hardik Pandya had an off-day with the ball whereas Bhuvneshwar Kumar conceded 19 runs in the penultimate over. Arshdeep Singh leaked only 27 runs in 3.5 overs, and accounted for a wicket, but he dropped a simple catch of Asif in the 18th over which led to his massive trolling online. Amid all this, many former cricketers have backed the 23-year-old pacer whereas the likes of Virat Kohli, Md Shami and Shikhar Dhawan also extended their support to the Punjab Kings' (PBKS) speedster. Now, former batting legend Sachin Tendulkar also joined the bandwagon and came out in support of under-fire Arshdeep.

Tendulkar took to his official Twitter handle and shared a post where he wrote, "Every athlete representing the country gives their best and plays for the nation always. Seeing so much support coming his way from superstar cricketers, Arshdeep will surely like to move past his costly drop from the Pakistan clash -- as Asif went onto hammer Bhuvi in the penultimate over of the run-chase and returned with an 8-ball 16 -- and bounce back in style when India take on Sri Lanka in their next game in the Super Four round at the continental tournament.

'Let's keep cricket or any other sport...' - Sachin Tendulkar comes in support of under-fire Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh was mercilessly trolled online after he dropped a simple catch in the end overs of the high-voltage India-Pakistan Super Four clash at the Asia Cup 2022 edition, in the UAE. After spinner Ravi Bishnoi came onto bowl the 18th over of Pakistan's 182-run chase, with big hitters Asif Ali-Khusdil Shah in the middle, and the Men in Green needing 34 off 18 balls. While Bishnoi induced a mistimed stroke from Asif's blade, Arshdeep dropped a sitter inside the inner circle to give him a reprieve before the batter's 8-ball 16 propelled Babar Azam & Co. to a stunning five-wicket win following blitz from Md Rizwan (71) and Md Nawaz's 20-ball 42.

Thus, Arshdeep was trolled on social media platforms as the 23-year-old speedster faced immense heat with India going down to arch-rivals Pakistan in their Super Four opener, putting them in a must-win scenario going ahead. Recently, former Indian batter-turned-broadcaster Sanjay Manjrekar explained why he didn't ask about Arshdeep's blunder to captain Rohit Sharma during the post-match presentation ceremony at the iconic Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

"Arshdeep would have taken that catch normally, almost with one eye closed, 99 times out of 100. Maybe a thought that this is India vs Pakistan. This is a crucial catch and Asif Ali got him to drop that. It's one of those things that happens. And that's why I didn't ask Rohit Sharma whether that catch was the turning point. Because it shouldn't be just one drop catch at a certain stage of the game. Pinning the blame on Arshdeep Singh, a young cricketer would not have been fair. You don't lose cricket matches because of one moment. There are many contributing factors with which you lose a game, because all of those factors come by," Manjrekar told Sports 18.

In an exclusive interview with Times Now, senior Indian pacer Mohammed Shami also didn't mince his words and slammed Arshdeep''s trolls. He said, "They only live to troll us, have no other job. When we perform well they don’t say you took a good catch but will troll us?" said Shami. "Agar dam hai toh real accounts se aaye na, fake account se toh koi bhi msg kar sakta hai (If you have the audacity, then comes from real accounts; anyone can message from fake accounts)."

Arshdeep will like to forget about his dropped catch in the Pakistan tie and move ahead to make a bigger contribution for India and take them into the finale. India will now face Sri Lanka on Tuesday evening (September 06) and then lock horns with Afghanistan in their remaining Super Four matches. Will they bounce back in style or face a shocking exit? Only time will tell...

"Agar dam hai toh real accounts se aaye na, fake account se toh koi bhi msg kar sakta hai (If you have the audacity, then comes from real accounts; anyone can message from fake accounts)." IND vs PAK: Manjrekar reveals why he refrained from asking about Arshdeep's dropped catch to Rohit

Former India captain Virat Kohli continued his purple patch in Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday as he notched up his second successive half-century in the Super Four clash against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium. Kohli's form was under the scanner ahead of the tournament but the senior batter has managed to shut his critics with his performances so far.

After his 59-run-knock against Hong Kong in India's last game, Kohli once again looked in sublime touch against Pakistan on Sunday. He came out to bat at number three and capitalised well on the good start provided by openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

Kohli scored and notched up his fifty off just 36 balls and ended up with 60 runs off 44 balls laced with 4 fours and a solitary six. However, his brilliant knock went in vain as Pakistan successfully chased down the target of 182 runs to hand India their first defeat in the tournament.

Kohli spoke about the criticism he has faced over the last few months in the post-match press conference and said he has never paid attention to his critics. Sending a message to those who doubted him, Kohli said he has played international cricket for 14 years now and that doesn't happen by chance.

“Never really paid attention to these things (answering the critics). I have played for 14 years and it doesn’t happen by chance. My job is to work hard on my game, something that I am keen to do, keen to improve for my team and that’s something that I am going to continue to do so,” Kohli said.

“Everyone is doing their job (critics). Our job is to play the game, work hard, give our 120 percent. As long as I am doing that and the team has faith it in that, what happens in the change room that matters to us, to me as well. People have their opinions, that’s absolutely fine. That doesn’t change my happiness as a person,” he added.

Recently, questions were raised over Kohli's spot in India's T20I squad amid his lean patch for the Men in Blue. He had opted for a break after the conclusion of India's tour of England last month and was under immense pressure to perform in the Asia Cup after making his comeback for the team.

Kohli had also admitted facing mental struggles and not touching his bat for a month for the first time in ten years during his break. The former India captain has now admitted he feels much more relaxed and is once again loving playing the game all over again.

“I took some time away, put things in perspective and it’s given me a kind of relaxation that this is not the be-all-and-end-all of life. I have realised in life that I can’t put so much pressure of expectations on myself that I am not express myself. That’s not why I started playing the game. I was able to find that excitement back,” Kohli said.

“When I came here, the environment was very welcoming, and the camaraderie with the boys is amazing. The environment in the team is amazing, I am absolutely loving playing all over again and feeling good regarding my batting,” he added.

Asia Cup 2022: Mohammad Rizwan's brilliant knock helps Pakistan beat India by five wickets in Super 4 clash

India couldn't make it two wins in a row versus Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup when both sides met in the Super Four match at the Dubai International Crcket Stadium, Dubai on Sunday (September 04). After posting a competitive 181-7, being asked to bat first by Babar Azam-led Men in Green, Indian bowlers couldn't produce a memorable performance as the Men in Blue lost the contest on the penultimate ball.

Among the Indian bowlers, Arshdeep Singh returned with a decent spell (3.5-0-27-1) whereas inexperienced spinner Ravi Bishnoi was most successful, ending with 4-0-26-1. The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar (conceded 19 runs in the penultimate over), Hardik Pandya and Yuzvendra Chahal conceded over ten per over. Thus, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Gautam Gambhir opined on the Indian bowlers post the Pakistan defeat and lauded young Bishnoi. He also made a bold statement that Chahal -- despite being a senior bowler -- bowled the easier overs when compared to Bishnoi.

“I think Bishnoi did a fabulous job today. He was the one who bowled the toughest overs in this game. Bowling the fifth over and getting Babar out, bowling the 18th over. Had Avesh been fit, probably Bishi wouldn't have played this game. Chahal has been the senior over, and he has actually bowled the easier overs as compared to someone like Bishnoi, who is playing first game against Pakistan,” said Gambhir on Star Sports.

Gambhir further also pointed out that Hardik having an off day led to India's defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Pakistan. “You got to give it to him. I don't think India missed anyone. Probably, Hardik didn't have the day that India expected him to have, but it's fine. Cricket is a great leveller,” Gambhir added.

Ind vs Pak, Asia Cup: Yuzi Chahal bowled easier overs than Ravi Bishnoi, feels Gautam Gambhir

Young India pacer Arshdeep Singh has been on the receiving end of intense criticism after he dropped a simple catch of Pakistan batter Asif Ali in the Super 4 clash between the arch-rivals in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday (September 04). India lost the game by five wickets as Pakistan successfully chased down the target of 182 runs in a last-over thriller in Dubai.

However, opener Mohammad Rizwan single-handedly kept Pakistan in the game with a gritty knock of 71 runs. He combined with Mohammad Nawaz (42) to take Pakistan closer to victory before the duo lost their wickets in quick succession.

Sensing an opportunity to make a comeback in the game, India fought back in the final few overs and had a great opportunity to turn the tide in their favour when Asif Ali gave an easy catch to Arshdeep in the 18th over. However, the youngster put it down as Ali went on to score 16 off 8 balls to take Pakistan home.

'No one drops a catch purposely': Harbhajan, Hafeez defend Arshdeep Singh amid criticism after Pakistan defeat

Rohit Sharma-led India failed to defend a competitive 181/7 versus Pakistan in their Super Four face-off at the Asia Cup, in the UAE, on Sunday (September 04). Being asked to bat first, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, India rode on Virat Kohli's 44-ball 60 before Md Rizwan-Md Nawaz's blazing knocks and cameos from Asif Ali-Khushil Shah led to Pakistan's thrilling five-wicket win in the continental tournament.

After the defeat, many raised fingers at Arshdeep Singh for dropping one of the easiest catches -- in the 18th over to give a reprieve to Asif Ali -- whereas the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar (giving away 19 runs in the penultimate over) and India's middle order batters also got criticised. Moreover, fingers were also pointed out at Rohit's usage of bowlers. Some feel he could've brought back Bhuvi early for his final spell whereas the others didn't agree with him recalling inexperienced spinner Ravi Bishnoi in the 18th over (despite him nearly producing a wicket of Asif before Arshdeep's blunder). However, former all-rounder Irfan Pathan has fully backed Hitman and feels Rohit knows how to rotate his bowlers.

“A captain can be tested on two things, especially how he handles the bowler, especially when the bowlers are new and when you are defending too. These two times you get to realise and I have seen time and again Rohit Sharma is a fantastic leader. He manages the bowlers really well, he knows when to play which bowler,” Pathan said while speaking on Star Sports show ‘Follow the Blues’.

“Made Bishnoi bowl an over during the power play, he had taken a wicket but he still kept him waiting, did not let him bowl another over and got him again after Chahal’s over as he knows Bishnoi is a different kind of bowler, not a typical leg spin bowler, doesn’t bowl side arm so it was difficult for Pakistan to read his bowling style that is why he had given just 8 runs off his first two overs," Pathan added.

'Rohit is a fantastic leader' - Irfan backs Hitman after India's Asia Cup journey dented by Pakistan loss

Arshdeep Singh was mercilessly trolled after dropping a sitter during Pakistan's riveting run-chase versus India when both sides locked horns in the Super Four clash at the Asia Cup 2022 edition on Sunday evening (September 04) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Being asked to bat first, India posted a competitive 181/7 -- thanks to Virat Kohli's 44-ball 60 -- and came back into the contest after dismissing Mohammad Rizwan (71) and Mohammad Nawaz (20-ball 42) in the end overs before pacer Arshdeep's dropped catch gave a reprieve to Asif Ali. The right-hander fell to the speedster in the final over but slammed a fine 8-ball 16 and finished proceedings, with Khusdil Shah's 11-ball 14*, for the Men in Green with five wickets in hand.

After the encounter, many have come hard at the 23-year-old Arshdeep, who still returned with a fine spell (3.5-0-27-0) and pushed the game to the penultimate ball despite the dropped catch. Now, senior pacer Mohammad Shami -- who was also trolled online following his 3.5-0-43-0 spell versus Babar Azam & Co. in the 2021 T20 World Cup -- has lashed out at trolls and called them 'jobless'. Further, he has backed Arshdeep to move ahead from his setback and bounce back in style.

In an exclusive interview with Times Now, Shami didn't mince his words and said, "They only live to troll us, have no other job. When we perform well they don’t say you took a good catch but will troll us?" said Shami. "Agar dam hai toh real accounts se aaye na, fake account se toh koi bhi msg kar sakta hai (If you have the audacity, then comes from real accounts; anyone can message from fake accounts,)” he added.

The 32-year-old Shami backed Arshdeep to shine in the future and asserted further, "I’ve faced this and it doesn’t affect me because my country stands up for me. I’ll only say to Arshdeep, don’t let this hamper you because your talent is immense."

Given that Shami was also subject to massive trolling on religious lines, following India's heavy ten-wicket loss to Pakistan in last year's T20 WC face-off, he can certainly relate to Arshdeep's situation at present. The Punjab Kings' (PBKS) pacer remained calm and bowled a decent last over despite giving a reprieve to Asif Ali and will take a lot of learnings from the Pakistan clash.

After the match, former skipper Virat also extended his support to Arshdeep and said, “Anyone can commit mistakes under pressure. It was a big game, and the situation was a bit tight. I remember when I was playing my first Champions Trophy game against Pakistan, and I played a very poor shot off Shahid Afridi’s bowling. I kept looking at the ceiling till 5 in the morning. I was up all night and couldn’t sleep. I thought it would be the end of my career and never get another chance."

He added, "That’s a natural feeling. But there are senior players around you. We’ll come together again for the next game. So, it’s all about learning in a good environment and when a similar situation arrives again, you look forward to it and be ready."

'If you are brave enough...' - Shami blasts 'jobless' trolls slamming Arshdeep after Indo-Pak showdown

Rohit Sharma's India lost to Pakistan by five wickets in a thrilling India-Pakistan Asia Cup clash in the Super Four clash on Sunday evening (September 04). Being asked to bat first, India rode on Virat Kohli's scintillating 44-ball 60 and other handy knocks from Rohit Sharma-KL Rahul along with some contributions from Rishabh Pant and Deepak Hooda to post 181-7 before Mohammad Rizwan (71) - Mohammad Nawaz (20-ball 42) and Asif Ali-Khusdil Shah's finishing cameos took Men in Green home on the penultimate ball of the contest at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

While many blamed Arshdeep Singh for dropping a sitter in the 18th over of Pakistan's run-chase, some also pointed fingers at Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 19-run penultimate over whereas others slammed the poor shot selections from India's middle-order, comprising Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya, for Rohit & Co.'s loss in the Super Four face-off. Former cricketers Gautam Gambhir and Wasim Akram also opined on the Indo-Pak battle and weren't impressed with Pant's shot selection.

"Rishabh Pant will be disappointed because that's not his shot, his shot is probably hit it over long-on or deep mid-wicket, you end up hitting over there and get out, absolutely you can take it because that's your strength. Your strength is not reverse-sweeping," Gambhir said in an interaction with Star Sports

"Especially, Gauti, at that stage of the game, there was no need to play that shot. I know he plays that shot in Test cricket, I know he is one of the top players in world cricket but in this stage of the game, that shot wasn't required," Akram mentioned during the same discussion.

Pant only managed a 12-ball 14, going for a reverse sweep off Shabad Khan's bowling before being caught by Asif.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri also opined on Pant's dismissal and said, "Particularly after what he saw Rohit, Rahul and others were doing. Where were the runs coming? It was down the ground and in the V. It was a beautiful pitch, hats off to the groundsmen, the ball was skidding on to the bat. That's his strength, he can smack it. No boundary is big for Rishabh Pant if he connects it, but that's his area. Absolutely, right."

Pant will be eager to make a bigger contribution in India's remaining Super Four games, where they play Sri Lanka (September 06) and Afghanistan (September 08).

'Your strength is not...' - Gambhir, Akram criticise Pant for poor shot selection in Indo-Pak contest

India lost to Pakistan in another thrilling encounter between both sides in the Asia Cup 2022 edition, being held in the UAE. After beating their arch-rivals Pakistan by five wickets in the group stage, India looked to make it two wins in a row during the Super Four match versus the Men in Green but the script favoured Babar Azam & Co. Opting to bowl first, Pakistan bowlers didn't start well with Rohit Sharma-KL Rahul going all-out before the opposition bowlers somehow restricted India to 181/7 in 20 overs.

Losing Babar and Fakhar Zaman for cheap, Pakistan were in a tricky position before Mohammad Rizwan-Mohammad Nawaz's 73-run third-wicket stand kept them in the run-chase. Eventually, Rizwan's 71, Nawaz's 20-ball 42 and cameos from Asif Ali-Khusdil Shah took Pakistan to a famous five-wicket win on the penultimate ball of the contest. After the loss, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar opined on Rohit & Co.'s team selection. It is interesting to note that Dinesh Karthik wasn't preferred in the playing XI, who was part of the line-up with Rishabh Pant benched during both sides' earlier face-off in the tournament.

"Dropping Dinesh Karthik, that was something that was a little bit hard to understand. Here, you have already identified him as a finisher. And, in this big game against Pakistan, you don’t pick him in the team. So, that was a bit of a surprise," Gavaskar told India Today after India's 5-wicket loss.

With Ravindra Jadeja ruled out due to a knee injury, India went ahead with Pant as the keeper-batter and Deepak Hooda playing as a finisher-cum-extra-bowling option. Thus, it made DK warm the bench versus Pakistan in the marquee clash at the iconic Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. However, Hooda didn't bowl a single over despite expensive spells from Hardik Pandya and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Further, Gavaskar lauded Virat Kohli for regaining form, which keeps India in good stead going ahead in the Asian championship and the forthcoming T20 World Cup in Australia, from October-November. "We certainly have, he was middling the ball from the first ball he faced. There were a couple of terrific shots, the pull shot was the best of them all and even the flick for six to get to his fifty, there were some excellent shots. Most importantly, he was middling all the shots apart from one from the leg-spinner. Otherwise, everything was from the middle of the bat.

"That's what gives batter confidence. It's not the number of runs that you score, how you batted, he has batted quite superbly in this game against Pakistan. That augurs really well for India in the matches to come, "the legendary cricketer added.

Sunil Gavaskar 'surprised' with Rohit-led India's decision to not include Dinesh Karthik for Pakistan tie

India and Pakistan produced another thriller in the ongoing Asia Cup when the Asian giants met in the Super Four clash, on Sunday evening (September 04), at the iconic Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Being asked to bat first, Rohit Sharma & Co. made a competitive 181-7 thanks to Virat Kohli's 60-run knock but went down to Babar Azam's Men in Green by five wickets in a riveting encounter.

In pursuit of 182, Babar-led Pakistan's innings were held together by wicketkeeper-opener Mohammad Rizwan (71 off 51 balls) before Mohammad Nawaz's 20-ball 42 and Asif Ali-Khusdil Khan's cameos took their side home. In the 18th over, Pakistan needed 34 off 18 balls with Asif-Khusdil in the middle, following the dismissals of Nawaz-Rizwan. Rohit gave the ball to Ravi Bishnoi, who had removed Babar Azam, and the leg-spinner outfoxed Asif to produce a mistimed shot from his willow before pacer Arshdeep Singh, at short third, dropped a sitter. Eventually, Arshdeep removed Asif (8-ball 16) while bowling a decent last over -- with only seven to defend -- but the finisher played a key role in Pakistan's win.

Arshdeep Singh made heads turn for all the wrong reasons during the India-Pakistan Super Four clash in the ongoing Asia Cup, in the UAE. When both sides once again locked horns in the mega tournament, the young pacer didn't return with an expensive spell in the high-scoring contest but dropped a sitter in the 18th over of Men in Green's riveting run-chase of finisher Asif Ali. Amid all this, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra extended support to the under-fire youngster with a heartfelt gesture, changing his Twitter display picture with Arshdeep's image: #NewProfilePic pic.twitter.com/ksSXCNMOgC — Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) September 5, 2022 × ALSO READ | 'No one drops a catch purposely': Harbhajan, Hafeez defend Arshdeep Singh amid criticism after Pakistan defeat Virat backs young Arshdeep “Anyone can commit mistakes under pressure. I kept looking at the ceiling till 5 in the morning. I was up all night and couldn’t sleep. I thought it would be the end of my career and never get another chance,” he added. Kohli further added, "That’s a natural feeling. But there are senior players around you. We’ll come together again for the next game. So, it’s all about learning in a good environment and when a similar situation arrives again, you look forward to it and be ready." India will now face Sri Lanka (September 06) and Afghanistan (September 08) in their remaining games in the Super Four and hope to qualify for the tournament final after a setback received from Pakistan.

Pakistan star Mohammad Rizwan to undergo MRI scan after suffering leg strain against India

Pakistan ended India's unbeaten run in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday (September 05) with a five-wicket win against their arch-rivals in their Super Four opener. India had kicked off their campaign with a thrilling five-wicket win against Pakistan in the group stage before beating Hong Kong comprehensively in their next game to qualify for the Super Four.

However, their winning streak was snapped by Pakistan on Sunday as the Men in Green avenged their group-stage defeat by chasing down the target of 182 runs in a last-over thriller in Dubai. Pakistan took a step closer to the final with the victory while India have been pushed to the brink of an early exit.

India still have two games remaining in the Super Four and are pretty much in contention to still make it to the final. However, they cannot afford anymore slip-ups in their remaining two matches against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. A defeat will all but end India's hopes of reaching the all-important final. Here we take a look at the permutations and combinations that can decide India's fate in the tournament.

How can India make it to Asia Cup 2022 final?

India's next two matches against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are both must-win encounters for Rohit Sharma's men. If they lose any of the two games, they will be all but out of contention for the final. A defeat against Sri Lanka in their next game will be catastrophic as it will straightaway confirm India's exit from the tournament.

Sri Lanka won their first Super Four game against Afghanistan last week and are the best-placed along with Pakistan at present to enter the final of the competition. However, in cricket, nothing is predictable and it takes little time for the tides to turn.

In the best scenario, India will aim to win their remaining two matches against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan while hoping that both teams go on to lose their respective matches against Pakistan. If Pakistan win all three and, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan lose their remaining two games, it will set up another high-octane India-Pakistan content in the final.

However, India might not still be guaranteed a spot in the final if they win both their remaining matches as the net run rate will come into play if Sri Lanka manages to beat Pakistan after losing against the Men in Blue. In that scenario, both India and Sri Lanka will have two wins and the team with the best net run rate will make it to the summit clash.

Afghanistan too remain in contention to reach the final, but they will have to beat both India and Pakistan in their remaining two games. However, a defeat against Afghanistan will confirm India's exit from the tournament. India will be looking to winning their remaining two must-win games and hope for the odds to go in their favour if it boils down to the net run rate.

Explained: How can India still make it to the final of Asia Cup 2022 after loss against Pakistan?

Team India's young fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has been targeted by trolls and abused on social media after he dropped a sitter against Pakistan in the Super Four clash between the two teams in Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday. Pakistan defeated India by five wickets in the game after chasing down the target of 182 runs on the penultimate delivery of the final over.

Arshdeep has faced vicious abuse and trolling on social media from a section of fans, with some editing his page on Wikipedia to show fake links with the separatist Khalistani movement. An unregistered user vandalised his page and replaced the word 'India' with 'Khalistan' at several places in his profile.

The changes were undone within 15 minutes by Wikipedia editors, however, the screenshots of his profile with the fake Khalistan links soon went viral on social media. The changes were made at 12:28 AM IST on Monday. The user also changed the cricketer's name to "Major Arshdeep Singh Langra” before editing it to "Major Arshdeep Singh Bajwa". Arshdeep's cricketing stats were also tampered with.

As per reports, the Indian government believes such malicious disinformation could disturb communal harmony and can also lead to a law and order situation for Arshdeep's family.

Asked to bat first, India got off to a good start courtsey of a 54-run stand between openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma before Virat Kohli's 60 powered them to a strong total of 181 runs. In reply, Pakistan got off to a poor start losing Babar Azam's wicket cheaply before Mohammad Rizwan played a brilliant knock of 71 runs put them in cruise control.

Pakistan were cruising towards victory when Indian bowlers fought back and picked up wickets in quick succession to spice up the contest. In the 18th over bowled by spinner Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep dropped a simple catch of Pakistan batter Asif Ali, with them needing 34 runs to win.

Had the catch been taken, the monetum could have gone India's way but Pakistan ended up winning the game comfortably at the end with Asif scoring 16 runs off 8 ball to take his team home. Despite dropping the catch, Arshdeep showed great heart as he bowled well in the 20th over with 7 runs to defend off the last six balls.

Amid criticism for the young pacer, several former cricketers like Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh and Mohammad Hafeez have tweeted to extend support to him.

Pakistan bounced back to beat India by five wickets in their first Super Four clash in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday. After losing their opener in the group stage, Pakistan made it even as they clinched a last-over thriller in Dubai after successfully chasing down the target of 182 runs with one ball to spare.

India had a strong total to defend but Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan once again showcased his class as he played a brilliant knock of 71 runs off 51 deliveries and combined with Mohammad Nawaz (42 off 20 balls) to set up a thrilling victory for his team.

Reacting to India's five-wicket defeat, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar said he had already predicted Rohit Sharma & Co's thrashing at the hands of the Men in Green ahead of their Super Four clash. Akhtar made some cocky comments on Pakistan's win and claimed he had told his Indian fans to not get too happy after their win in the group stage.

“Meine Indians ko bhi kaha, bahut sare doosto ko bhi kaha tha ki itna khush hone ki zaruurat nahi hai, Pakistan will make a strong comeback, meine video mein bhi bola tha Pakistan ruthelessly marage Hindustan ko. (I told Indian fans and my friends to not get too happy as Pakistan will make a strong comeback and I had said in an earlier video that Pakistan will ruthlessly trounce India)," Akhtar said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Akhtar also went on to slam India's team selection for the game and said Rohit Sharma, and the Indian team management looked 'confused'. India had to make two forced changes in the playing XI on Sunday as all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out due to a knee injury, while fast bowler Avesh Khan was down with fever and couldn't feature.

However, Akhtar said India need to decide who they want to play going forward between wicket-keepers Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik and if the likes of Ravi Bishnoi and Deepak Hooda are part of their future plans.

“India should decide what should be their final XI. Who is your future – is it Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, Deepak Hood or Ravi Bishnoi? Find you final XI at least first, because, this is confused selection from India and I don’t know why is there so much confusion,” said the former Pakistan pacer.

'Had said Pakistan will ruthlessly trounce India': Shoaib Akhtar on Babar & Co's thrilling win in Asia Cup

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has reiterated his team will continue playing an aggressive brand of cricket in T20Is even if results don't go in their favour on a few occasions. India have changed their approach in the shortest format ever since Rohit took over as captain last year and have decided to stick with it in the run-up to the T20 World Cup 2022 later this year.

Rohit has often stressed playing fearlessly and the Indian batters have so far responded well by attacking the opposition from the word go in several matches the team has played so far this year. However, India have also seen the approach backfire for them on a few occasions.

India lost their Super Four clash against Pakistan by five wickets in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday and Rohit was once again asked if the attacking mindset of the Indian batters cost them the game. The likes of Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav all got out trying to go big after a fiery start by the Indian openers against Pakistan.

Rohit admitted India lost quick wickets in the middle but insisted the team is ready to accept some results not going in their favour when playing with an aggressive approach. The Indian skipper believes it will not always bring success but they will end up on the winning side more often than not.

"We lost wickets in the middle, the two crucial wickets of Hardik and Rishabh were actually not needed at that point. But we want to come out with a very open mindset, play freely, so things like this can happen and we are ready to accept it," Rohit said after the game.

"Moving forward, I think that is the kind of approach we want to take and I have said it many a times, while taking that approach we'll not always have success but as a team we are very much okay with that," the Indian skipper added.

Rohit and Rahul had given India a cracking start at the top with a 54-run stand but the middle-order failed to capitalise. However, Virat Kohli showed glimpses of his prime past as he notched up a brilliant 60-run-knock to help India post a strong total of 181 runs on the board.

It was Kohli's second successive fifty in the ongoing Asia Cup after his 59-run-knock against Hong Kong in the last game. Praising Kohli for his form, Rohit said he has been brilliant so far in the tournament and batted with great tempo against Pakistan.

"I think the form [of Kohli] is brilliant, there's no doubt about that. I mean, we batted sensibly in the middle, we needed somebody to bat long when others were getting out in front of him. Obviously, he batted with that tempo as well. It was important to continue to keep doing what we want to do as a group and I thought every batter, especially Virat getting that score, staying till the end was also crucial from the team's point of view," said the Indian captain.

However, Kohli's knock went in vain as Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Nawaz's heroics helped Pakistan clinch the last-over thriller against India and end their unbeaten run in the tournament. India will next face Sri Lanka in their second Super Four game on Tuesday (September 06).

We'll not always have success with that approach, but we are okay with that: Rohit Sharma after Pakistan loss

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has said he wants to see Virat Kohli break the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record of 100 centuries in international cricket. Kohli's form has been under the scanner for a while now but the senior Team India batter has managed to spark a turnaround in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022.

Kohli has looked in decent touch in the Asia Cup so far with crucial knocks in India's first two matches against Pakistan and Hong Kong. He bagged a crucial 35-run-knock against Pakistan in the opener and followed it up with a brilliant fifty against Hong Kong to help the Men in Blue bag two wins in a row in the tournament.

Though he looked in good rhythm en route to his 44-ball 59 against Hong Kong, Kohli's innings lacked firepower and he was seen struggling to middle the ball on several occasions. Akhtar agreed Kohli is still not on top of his game and suggested waiting till the T20 World Cup 2022 if the shortest format is still a viable option for him going ahead.

“Virat Kohli hasn't been middling the ball really well. Both innings were quite patchy. He scored 59, I wish him the best. Mera ye hi mashwara hoga Kohli ko ki dekh lo World Cup tak (My only suggestion to Kohli is to just wait till the T20 World Cup), if this format suits your or doesn't suit you. 30 centuries karni hain aur aage (you have to score 30 more centuries),” Akhtar said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Akhar further backed Kohli to break Tendulkar's record of scoring 100 centuries in international cricket. Tendulkar holds the record for smashing the most number of centuries in international cricket and is the only man in the history of the sport to reach the 100 centuries mark.

With 70 centuries under his belt, Kohli is the closest to Tendulkar's record among the active batters. He is currently behind only Tendulkar and former Australia captain Ricky Ponting (71) in the list of batters with the most centuries in international cricket.

Akhtar believes Kohli can go on to establish his credentials as the greatest of all time if he can score 30 more centuries in his international career. However, the Pakistan pacer insisted the remaining 30 centuries will be the toughest ones for the senior India batter, who has not scored a ton for Team India since November 2019.

“You can become the greatest player forever. You have to convince yourself that you are the greatest ever. This is going to be the hardest 30 centuries -- if he scores. When he goes to the longest formats, he will get time to settle. Here, he is trying but the time is less, you have to maintain a good strike rate, you have to ensure the team wins," said Akthar.

"He is positive, he is aggressive.. he is a great player, but I really want him to score a 100 centuries and break Sachin Tendulkar's record. It looks impossible right now, but this man can do it,” he added.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has said he wants to see Virat Kohli break the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record of 100 centuries in international cricket.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir believes Rohit Sharma & Co. enjoy a clear advantage over Pakistan ahead of the Super Four clash between the arch-rivals in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday (September 04). India had defeated Pakistan by five wickets in a thriller when the two teams earlier met in the tournament.

Hardik Pandya turned out to be the hero for India as an exceptional all-round performance from him saw the Men in Blue get the better of Pakistan in their opener in Dubai. After picking up a three-wicket haul to help India bundle out for 147 runs, Pandya played a match-winning knock of 17-ball 33 to take India over the line in a last-over humdinger.

Despite the last game being a cliffhanger, Gambhir believes India will be the favourites against Pakistan on Sunday considering the overall quality of their line-up. The former India opener feels Pandya can once again be the difference between the two sides when they meet in the all-important Super 4 clash.

“The first game was a cliffhanger. Hopefully, we're going to get many more games like that and I'm sure that India has got an advantage, just because we have got a better quality side from a batting and all-rounder point of view which we got Hardik Pandya. But I hope it's going to be a good game tomorrow,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.

However, Gambhir insisted Pakistan will come better prepared for Sunday's blockbuster clash after facing defeat in their opening game against India. Babar Azam's men have not played enough T20Is this year but will be riding high on confidence after their thumping 155-run win against Hong Kong in their last game.

“But again, on the other side, Pakistan will be little better prepared. Especially, for tomorrow's game as compared to what they started this tournament with. They have hardly played any T20 cricket this year. So hopefully we get a good game of cricket and hopeful India can come on top,” Gambhir added.

Both India and Pakistan are facing injury woes ahead of their meeting as the Babar Azam-led side will miss the services of fast bowler Shanawaz Dahani while India will be without their star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to an injury.

Asia Cup 2022: Gautam Gambhir explains why India have advantage over Pakistan in Super 4 clash

India were dealt a huge blow ahead of the start of the Super Four campaign in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 as star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to an injury. Jadeja's knee injury has sidelined him from the Asia Cup and the all-rounder might be forced to miss the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 as well later this year.

In Axar Patel, India have managed to rope in a like-to-like replacement for Jadeja but it remains to be seen if the left-arm all-rounder will be able to make the cut against Pakistan. Deepak Hooda, who has been in sublime form with the bat this year and can be a handy bowler, is also one of the favourites to take Jadeja's spot in the playing XI.

Jadeja had been a vital cog in the Indian team across formats for over the last few years now and his batting has improved immensely. He was promoted up the order and sent to bat at no.4 in India's opening game against Pakistan where he notched up a crucial 35 to help the Men in Blue get off to a winning start.

Jadeja has also been an excellent fielder and a brilliant contributor with the ball. While his presence will be dearly missed in the remainder of the Asia Cup, India will hope his surgery can be delayed for a few months for him to be able to feature in the T20 World Cup later this year.

Axar and Hooda can be his direct replacements in the squad but his absence will also leave India with a major selection headache as far as the wicket-keeper's spot is considered. It was Jadeja, who batted up the order in Rishabh Pant's absence in the first game against Pakistan with Dinesh Karthik in the playing XI, however, Pant will likely be a certain selection over Karthik now that Jadeja is out.

The top three of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli will all retain their spots along with Hardik Pandya as the key all-rounder in Jadeja's absence. In the bowling department, a change can be expected with pacer Avesh Khan not well. India might go with an extra spinner in R Ashwin if Avesh fails to make the cut.

India are unbeaten so far in the tournament having won their first two games against Pakistan and Hong Kong, respectively. Rohit Sharma & Co. will be looking to make it two wins in a row against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday and continue their unbeaten streak in the tournament.
