Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar revealed that the current crop of Indian batters have not approached him for inputs in order to rectify their mistakes. Gavaskar, also known as the Little Master, mentioned that yesteryear superstars such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman used to approach him during their playing days, however, the same is not the case in current times.

Gavaskar told&nbsp;The Indian Express,&nbsp;"If the batters are making the same mistakes over and over again, you need to ask what has happened with your technique. How have you tried to improve the batter? Have you tried to tell him, maybe take a different guard? Don't take a leg-stump guard, take a middle and off-stump guard."

Recalling how he came to former Indian opener Virender Sehwag's aid, Gavaskar stated, "I remember once calling Virender Sehwag out of the blue. He had not been scoring too many runs. I told him, 'Viru, just try the off-stump guard'. So he asked, 'Why, Sunny bhai?' So I told him, 'Look, you aren't known for great footwork. What is happening is, sometimes when you are getting out, you are reaching out for the delivery and it makes things difficult for you. So, maybe if you take the off-stump guard, you straight away know that the ball is outside the off-stump. That is where the coach can come in with his inputs."

He added, "No, no one has come. Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and VVS Laxman regularly came to me. And they would approach me with a specific problem and you could tell them something which you had observed. I don't have an ego about this, I could go and talk to them but since there are two coaches — Rahul Dravid and Vikram Rathore – so sometimes you hold back since you don’t want to confuse them with too much information."

'Dravid, Sachin...'- Gavaskar on current batters not approaching him, reveals why he has restricted himself

The young star has been in relentless form since the turn of the year and has scored eight hundreds in the calendar year, including three in the Indian Premier League. Despite spending the majority of the time in English conditions, the veteran batter only contributed an aggregate of 41 runs. While he was no way near his best in the WTC final, Gavaskar thinks he was not the batter who had failed miserably.

Why Pujara has been made the fall guy is something the selectors will have to explain," he added.

As reported by Cricbuzz, the series is likely to start on July 12 and conclude on August 13 in the USA. The Indian team is likely to depart for the Caribbean islands on July 5 or 6 and will start preparations for the tour. The Indian team will look at the series as a perfect opportunity to prepare for the T20 World Cup in 2024. This will be the second year running that Team India will play a series in the West Indies, having also toured in July and August last year.

According to the current itinerary, the Indian team will play three T20Is but are now scheduled to play two more T20Is which will see them travel to the USA. India were in Florida in 2016 and in 2022 and will be there for the 2024 T20 World Cup as well.

As things stand, Dominica and Trinidad are the venues shortlisted for the two-match Test series while Barbados will be the third venue in use for the series. It is likely to host the first two ODIs while Guyana will be added as a T20I venue.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels Virat Kohli doesn't look in the right frame of mind amidst his struggle with the willow. Kohli has been far from his best in his recent outings for the Indian team and has failed to attain the consistency that he was once known for. The former India skipper endured yet another batting failure in the first ODI against West Indies on Sunday.

On Sunday, India were asked to chase a moderate target of 177 runs in the first ODI against West Indies after spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar ran riot with the ball. Opening the innings with Ishan Kishan, skipper Rohit Sharma got India off to a flying start. Rohit slammed a 51-ball 60 and added 84 runs for the first wicket with Ishan (28).

Kohli came out to bat at number three after Rohit dismissal. The stage was set for the batting maestro to take control of the run-chase and take India home comfortably. However, Kohli managed a short stay out in the middle as he was dismissed by pacer Alzarri Joseph after scoring 8 runs off just 4 balls.

Chopra reckoned Kohli was in a hurry and doesn't look in the right frame of the mind while approaching his innings. Former India captain Virat Kohli helped Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in taking a successful review during the first ODI against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (February 06). The incident happened during the 22nd over of West Indies' innings after India won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first.

On the fifth delivery of the 22nd over, West Indies batter Shamarh Brooks edged the ball to Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant off the bowling of Yuzvendra Chahal. The on-field umpire was not convinced and adjudged the batter not-out. However, Chahal and other Indian players managed to convince Rohit to go for the review.

The conversation between the Indian players and skipper Rohit was caught on the stump-mic. While wicket-keeper Pant, who had a good view of the situation, said he was unsure if the ball had hit the bat, Kohli stepped in and convinced Rohit to go for the review. Kohli told the Indian captain the ball had definitely hit the bat.

"Rohit bat bhi laga hai and bat pad pe laga hai. Mere ko toh laga out hai (Rohit ball has hit the bat and the bat has hit the pad, I think it's out)," Kohli can be heard telling Rohit on the stump-mic. The video of the incident soon went viral on social media.

Rohit opted for the review and the replays confirmed the ball had clearly hit the bat of Brook before landing in Pant's gloves. The batter was sent packing on 12 off 26 balls as West Indies lost their sixth wicket in the game.

One of the most successful teams in the world, India have been a force to reckon with across formats over the years in international cricket. The team has two ODI World Cups and a T20 World Cup to their name beside other major trophies and achievements at the highest level.

India have 518 wins in the 999 ODI matches that they have played so far. The team has lost a total of 431 matches in the ODI format while nine matches have ended in a tie and 41 without a result. &nbsp;Rohit Sharma, who is now India's full-time captain in white-ball cricket, is leading the Indian team in their milestone 1000th ODI appearance.

Incidentally, this will also be Rohit's first ODI game as full-time skipper of India in limited-overs cricket. He had missed the team's tour of South Africa due to a hamstring injury and is now back fit to lead the Men in Blue in his first major assignment as captain in ODIs. In a video posted by BCCI to celebrate India's 1000th ODI appearance, Rohit had said it will be a privilege for him to lead the team on the historic occasion.

"It will be a historic moment as we play the 1000th ODI. I would like to congratulate all the players who have taken part in this long journey. It is an honour for me to lead the side in that game, it will be a privilege to lead the boys. Our journey has been fantastic over the years. Skipper Virat Kohli smashed 85 to help India pull off a nervous chase of 316 to win the third one-day international by four wickets against West Indies and clinch the series on Sunday.

India relied on a key 58-run sixth-wicket stand between Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, unbeaten on 39 off 31 balls, to achieve their target with eight balls to spare in Cuttack.

Paceman Keemo Paul claimed three wickets, including that of Kohli in the 47th over, before Jadeja and Shardul Thakur, 17 not out, took the team home and to a 2-1 series win.

"Having done it so many times, you obviously have a bit more calmness and you understand how the dew is playing and all you need is a short partnership," said Kohli, who was named man of the match.

"It was outstanding to see others finishing the game. I had a nervous look when I walked back, but when I watched 'Jaddu' (Jadeja) he looked very confident."

Rohit Sharma, who made 63, and KL Rahul, on 77, laid the foundation of the team's chase with an opening partnership of 122 after the West Indies posted 315 for five.

West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran put together 135 runs for the fifth wicket to lift their side from 144 for four to a fighting total.

Pollard remained unbeaten on 74 off 51 deliveries after Pooran hit an attacking 89 to pulverise the Indian bowling in the last 10 overs that produced 118 runs for the West Indies.

Saini debut

In response, Kohli, who made India bowl first after winning the toss, batted with conviction despite wickets falling from the other end to make the second-ranked ODI side finish the year on a high.

Jason Holder got Sharma caught behind and Alzarri Joseph sent Rahul trudging back to the pavilion after his second successive score of 50 plus. He made 102 in India's series-levelling second ODI.

But Kohli kept up the attack during his 81-ball knock despite wickets falling at the other end before chopping a wide delivery on the offside onto his stumps.

Thakur then hit two fours and a six in his six-ball cameo to bring the packed house back to life as he celebrated the win with Jadeja.

Hetmyer's wicket ended a 62-run third-wicket stand with Roston Chase who was bowled by a toe-crushing yorker from Saini for 38.

But Pooran counter-attacked and completed his second successive fifty with a six off left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who went wicketless after coming into the game with 99 scalps.

He hit 10 fours and three sixes in his knock that lasted 64 balls before falling to Thakur with a mistimed hit to deep point.

"I don't think there's much to be disappointed about. Obviously results matter but if you look at where we are from where we've come from, I can't fault the boys, they showed their mettle," said Pollard.
