India have kept their hopes alive in the ongoing five-match T20I series against West Indies after they ran riot at Providence Stadium in Guyana to register a seven-wicket win. India, trailing 0-2 going into the third T20I contest, had Suryakumar Yadav to thank as the ICC T20I Player of the Year for 2022 played a match-winning 83-run knock. The win now sees India trail by 1-2 as the camps now move to the US to decide the fate of the series.

IND vs WI 3rd T20I: Suryakumar Yadav plays statement knock to overpower hosts in resounding seven-wicket win

Hardik Pandya-led India lost the secod T20I, of the five-match series, versus hosts West Indies on Sunday (August 06). After losing the series opener by four runs, the Men in Blue also conceded the second game by two wickets as they now trail the Windies 0-2. After the defeat in the second T20I, held in Guyana, former Indian stumper Parthiv Patel made a bold statement. Patel feels head coach Rahul Dravid isn't a proactive T20I coach and, hence, Hardik Pandya is not getting the support he needs while leading the national side in the shortest format.

Hardik has tasted considerable success as the Gujarat Titans' (GT) franchise since their entry in the Indian Premier League (IPL), in the 2022 edition. Hardik and Gujarat's coach Ashish Nehra make a formidable pair as the duo have done exceedingly well in terms of strategies and team combinations since 2022. Hardik has been leading the T20I line-up since India's exit in the T20 World Cup last year. He has worked well with Dravid as well but the two are running against time to keep India's hopes alive in the five T20Is versus Rovman Powell-led Windies. Thus, Patel feels Dravid isn't proactive and doesn't provide the needed support for Hardik to flourish as captain.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Patel said, "There have been a couple of instances about Hardik Pandya's captaincy which have been glaring mistakes. The first was giving that over to Axar Patel in the first game when Nicholas Pooran had come out to bat. And today (Sunday), this one (Chahal blunder in 2nd T20I)."

The former Indian stumper added, "Hardik Pandya the captain has been brilliant with GT but at Gujarat Titans he had the support of Ashish Nehra. But is Rahul Dravid the proactive coach or person which we are looking for in the T20 format. I don't think so. In my mind, we need someone who is proactive. Hardik Pandya has that spark but he needs that support, which to me Rahul Dravid doesn't provide."

Dravid's term as India's head coach is set to expire after this year's home ODI World Cup. It will be interesting to see if the former Indian skipper continues, opts to resign or is removed from the top post following the 50-over showpiece event.

IND vs WI: 'Dravid not proactive T20I coach, doesn't provide Hardik needed support'- Former India stumper

Former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has urged Sanju Samson to make the most of his chances in Team India's ongoing five T20Is versus West Indies, in the Caribbean. Samson, after an impressive 41-ball 51 in the ODI series decider, has not managed to come up with any&nbsp;significant contribution when batting lower down the order in the T20I series. So far, he has managed only a solitary fifty in 19 T20I innings&nbsp;and, hence, he needs to step up to cement his spot in the shortest format of the game. Given that the 2024 T20 World Cup will be held in West Indies and USA, the ongoing five T20Is is an ideal series for him to perform or perish.

After Samson's ordinary runs in the opening two games, where he managed 12 (12) and 7 (7), former Indian batter Chopra said on his Youtube channel, "Sanju Samson - don't waste your chance. If you waste your chance, you will remember it later. It is not that if Ishan Kishan goes from the top, Sanju cannot go from below. Both can go and Jitesh Sharma can come."

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper has been in and out for the national side ever since his international debut in 2015. While in the recent years, he is easily among the top 20 players of the country, Samson has failed to make the cut in the playing XI on most occasions, during the presence of India's white-ball regulars. Hence, the upcoming months hold great significance for him with the ODI World Cup only few months away, to be held in India in October-November, and the T20 World Cup slated to take place early next year.&nbsp;

Thus, some consistent performances can certainly help Samson's case going forward. For now, he will be eager to turn the tides in the ongoing T20Is versus Rovman Powell-led West Indies. At present, India trail the home side 0-2 and have to win the third match, on Tuesday (August 08) in Guyana, to keep the series alive.

Sanju Samson, don't waste your chance: Former Indian opener urges star batter to score big in WI T20Is

Team India lost the second T20I, of the five-match series, to hosts West Indies, in Guyana, on Sunday (August 6). After losing the series opener by four runs, Hardik Pandya &amp; Co. lost the second match by two wickets in defence of 153. Following the loss, many have once again slammed head coach Rahul Dravid for India's downfall since the WTC final defeat.

<h2>'Rahul has become a soft target only because...'</h2>

However, former India pacer Dodda Ganesh has backed under-fire Dravid and slammed his critics on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

In a post, Ganesh wrote, "Stop admonishing Rahul Dravid for every damn thing. He had no role in the captain juggling his bowlers today. Of late, Rahul has become a soft target only because he doesn’t say much in the media."

Stop admonishing Rahul Dravid for everything: Former India pacer backs under-fire coach amid defeats vs WI

After winning the Test and ODI series, India have lost two straight T20Is to hosts West Indies in the ongoing five-match series. On Sunday (August 06), Hardik Pandya-led India faced West Indies, in Guyana, for the second T20I and lost by two wickets in defence of 152/7.

Opting to bat first, India rode on Tilak Verma's maiden half century (51) but failed to defend the score despite reducing the home side to 129 for 8, after which they were well-placed at 126 for 4. Hardik claimed three scalps whereas Yuzvendra Chahal picked two wickets, but India conceded the match due to late hits from Alzarri Joseph-Akeal Hossain.

After yet another loss, former Team India pacer Venkatesh Prasad -- who remains vocal on Indian cricket on social media platforms -- slammed the national side for 'lack of intensity' and 'hunger'.

<h2>'After IPL started,&nbsp;we haven't won a T20 World Cup&nbsp;'</h2>

On the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Prasad wrote, "Very, very ordinary. No point in brushing it aside. After the 2007 T20 World Cup, IPL started and we haven't won a T20 World Cup in 7 attempts since, making only 1 final. The intensity and hunger to win needs to be far more."

"Yesterday after Yuzi took 2 wickets in the 16th over and got India back into the game in what was his third over and West Indies 8th down and he didn't bowl again and No 9 and 10 for WI found the pacers easy to handle. Should be smarter at these moments then just doing textbook stuff," he mentioned.

At the post-match presentation, Hardik said, "If am being honest that was a not a pleasing batting performance, we could have batted better. 160+ or 170 would have been a good total."

India will lock horns with West Indies in the third T20I at the same venue, i.e. the Providence Stadium, Guyana, to keep the series alive. Meanwhile, Rovman Powell-led Windies will&nbsp;aim for an unassailable lead.

Ind vs WI, 2nd T20I: Former pacer Venkatesh Prasad rips apart Team India for 'lack of 'intensity'

After a narrow defeat in the five-match T20Is, India also went down in the second match on Sunday (August 6) in Guyana. The Hardik Pandya-led Indian team opted to bat and posted a moderate 152 for 7. Despite reducing the Windies to 129&nbsp;for 8, from 126 for 4, the hosts prevailed on top due to their lower-order's power-hitting to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

Former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra reviewed India's two-wicket loss in the second T20I, on his YouTube channel, and came hard on Sanju Samson's shot selection. Samson is being used as a lower-order specialist in the five T20Is. While he came out to bat at No. 6 in the series opener, he was promoted at No. 5 -- one above captain Hardik -- but the right-hander fell for a run-a-ball 7. Even in the first T20I, he managed a run-a-ball 12.

Chopra criticised Samson's shot selection and feels his batting position&nbsp;should not be blamed for his poor run. In addition, the former cricketer has urged Samson to make the most of his chances to cement his spot else he might be dropped.

<h2>'Is there a place available at the top?'</h2>

"Sanju Samson played a bad shot. Shubman Gill at the start and Sanju Samson in the middle played bad shots. Sanju Samson and his fans can say that he is getting to bat at the wrong number. But is there a place available at the top? If it's not there, what can be done?" Chopra said.

Hardik Pandya-led India lost the five-match T20I series opener by four runs at the&nbsp;Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad on Thursday (August 04). In&nbsp;the first game, debutant Tilak Verma impressed one and all and top-scored for India (39) but the visitors failed to chase a moderate 150 and were restricted for 145 for 9. India were on course to chase down the score and were well-placed at 67 for 2 before Verma's dismissal turned the tide&nbsp;in West Indies' favour. Eventually, Jason Holder's 2 for 19 starred in his side's narrow win.

During India's run-chase, they tried Sanju Samson at No. 6. The swashbuckling right-hander mostly bats higher up the order, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and also in the limited ODIs he has featured in, but was given the task to finish the innings in the first T20I. As the pitch got slower, Samson took some time to get going and stitched a vital 36-run fifth-wicket stand with captain Hardik before the duo fell in&nbsp;the final five overs, to bring West Indies on top.

Samson ended with a run-a-ball 12. After the T20I series opener, former Indian batter Robin Uthappa - part of the MS Dhoni-led India's victorious run in the T20 World Cup in 2007 -- stated that Samson should be given a longer rope at the No. 6 spot ahead of next year's T20 World Cup, to be held in West Indies and USA.

<h2>'The more Samson plays....'</h2>

"I am hopeful considering the team management has decided to play Sanju Samson at No. 6 in T20I cricket, then it's important he gets a longer rope. If you are going to go into the World Cup with Sanju Samson playing a finisher's role, then it's important he understands the position well. The more he plays in that position, he would be able to understand it better," Robin Uthappa told JioCinema.

Uthappa added, "When Sanju Samson plays for the Rajasthan Royals, there also he can play half the season at the top order and the remaining half at No. 6. so that he can build familiarity. When he plays for India, it's not a given that he would get the No. 3 spot. Suryakumar Yadav might take the spot or Virat Kohli might play at No. 3. So he needs to be prepared for both positions."

Samson will like to come up with significant contributions in the remaining four T20Is and help Hardik &amp; Co. win the series. He scored an impressive 41-ball 51 in the third and final ODI and, hence, has form on his side to turn the tides in the upcoming games.&nbsp;

IND vs WI: Hope Sanju Samson gets long run at No. 6 ahead of T20 World Cup 2024, says Robin Uthappa

India recently won the three-match ODI series versus West Indies, in the Caribbean island, 2-1. Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue won the series opener, by five wickets, but they played a second-stringed side, with Rohit and Virat Kohli being rested, to lose the second and penultimate tie by six wickets. Despite the defeat, and heavy criticism for playing a second-stringed line-up, India again rested Rohit and Kohli and entered the third ODI with the series on the line.

However, the Hardik Pandya-led side came to their best in the finale and posted a mammoth 351/5. In reply, Shai Hope-led West Indies were bundled out for 151 in 35.3 overs and lost&nbsp;by 200 runs in Trinidad, on Tuesday (August 01). Despite the series triumph, many critics slammed the Dravid-led Indian team management for not playing their regulars in the three ODIs with the 50-over World Cup only a few months away, to be held in India in October-November.&nbsp;

<h2>'Seriously don’t understand why this outrage'</h2>

Now, veteran Indian off-spinner R Ashwin has schooled Rohit-Dravid's critics. "India lost the second ODI, and immediately the trend in social media was - why so-and-so players played and why so-and-so players did not play. I seriously don’t understand why this outrage. Rohit and Virat didn’t play in the second ODI. Even in the first match, Rohit batted lower down the order. So the debate was around whether Rohit and Virat should have played," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

<h2>'The reason why we are favourites for ODI World Cup is the IPL'</h2>

Ashwin further pointed out, “Some of them were perplexed at how we lost to a team that didn’t even qualify for the World Cup. Many people think that India’s only job in international cricket is to win World Cup. The main reason why we consider ourselves favourites to win the World Cup is because of the IPL. ODI matches are very stressful. It will take at least two days for your body to recover. The first two matches in West Indies were played in a gap of 24 hours. Thus, there are more chances of you getting injured. Already we have so many players recovering at the NCA. Bumrah is back after a long hiatus. Prasidh Krishna is back too. So, we have so many injury problems. It seems like people are finding points to blame Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma just for the sake of it."

The 36-year-old Test specialist added,&nbsp;"They are trying different players now because they know what they went through during the last T20 World Cup. We didn’t have Ravindra Jadeja and Bumrah, and we didn’t have many fast bowlers. That’s why we are trying different options before the ODI World Cup."

At present, the Hardik Pandya-led Indian T20I team is set to lock horns with West Indies in the five-match series opener on Thursday (August 03) in Trinidad. After the West Indies tour, Rohit-Dravid-led Indian team will gear up for the Asia Cup, in the ODI format, which will be an ideal dress rehearsal for the home WC. They will hope for the likes of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul to be deemed fit sooner than later, with Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna set to comeback in next month's Ireland T20Is, to strengthen their line-up before the ODI showpiece event later this year.

Hardik Pandya-led India romped West Indies by 200 runs in the third and final ODI in Trinidad on Tuesday (Aug 1) to clinch the three-match series 2-1. With this win, India claimed their 13th successive ODI series versus the Windies since 2007. After the series win, stand-in captain Hardik Pandya credited his 'wonderful chat with Virat Kohli' for a whirlwind knock in the series decider.

Opting to bat first, India once again rested regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Hardik led the side that rode on Ishan Kishan's 77, Shubman Gill's 85, Sanju Samson's 51 and Hardik's 52-ball 70 not out to post a mammoth 351 for 5. In reply, Shai Hope-led side only managed 151 in 35.3 overs to lose by a whopping 200-run margin.&nbsp;

Hardik's knock came at a good time for India as they continue to prepare for the Asia Cup and forthcoming ODI World Cup at home, in October-November. His last five scores were 7, 5, 40, 1 and 25. Thus, the 29-year-old came to his own in the series decider and led from the front. After the knock, he credited Kohli for a wonderful chat where the former Indian captain shared valuable inputs which helped Hardik.

At the post-match presentation, Hardik said, "I had a very wonderful chat with Virat a couple of days back, and the kind of input he gave me, he has seen me throughout the years. It's been almost seven or eight years of international cricket and he has seen me from day one. He had some pointers which really helped me. He just wanted me to spend some time on the crease and get used to the 50-over&nbsp;game as well because we have played so many T20 formats and yeah, that kind of stayed in my mind and I was just waiting for the opportunity. I'm really thankful to him as well to kind of share that experience with me."

On Rohit and Kohli being rested, Hardik backed the Rahul Dravid-led team management's decision and said, "Virat and Rohit are a very integral part of the team. And, you know, obviously, this was very important for someone like Rutu to get a game or Axar to get a game because they've been playing cricket for so many years, they know how exactly all these situations have been. So kind of giving them the youngsters exposure and kind of making sure that if we want to check something, we have the opportunity to do it."

Opting to bat first, India once again rested regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Hardik led the side that rode on Ishan Kishan's 77, Shubman Gill's 85, Sanju Samson's 51 and Hardik's 52-ball 70 not out to post a mammoth 351 for 5. In reply, Shai Hope-led side only managed 151 in 35.3 overs to lose by a whopping 200-run margin. Also read: India trump West Indies by 200 runs in final ODI, win series 2-1 At the post-match presentation, Hardik said, "I had a very wonderful chat with Virat a couple of days back, and the kind of input he gave me, he has seen me throughout the years. It's been almost seven or eight years of international cricket and he has seen me from day one. He had some pointers which really helped me. He just wanted me to spend some time on the crease and get used to the 50-over game as well because we have played so many T20 formats and yeah, that kind of stayed in my mind and I was just waiting for the opportunity. I'm really thankful to him as well to kind of share that experience with me." On Rohit and Kohli being rested, Hardik backed the Rahul Dravid-led team management's decision and said, "Virat and Rohit are a very integral part of the team. And, you know, obviously, this was very important for someone like Rutu to get a game or Axar to get a game because they've been playing cricket for so many years, they know how exactly all these situations have been. So kind of giving them the youngsters exposure and kind of making sure that if we want to check something, we have the opportunity to do it." IND vs WI: Hardik Pandya credits 'wonderful chat with Virat Kohli' for his whirlwind knock in 3rd ODI

India thrashed West Indies by 200 runs in the third and final ODI&nbsp;at&nbsp;Trinidad, to win the three-match series 2-1. After the series opener, where India won by five wickets, India rested regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. While the Hardik Pandya-led second-stringed side lost the second and penultimate tie, by six wickets, they were at their dominant best in the series decider, on Tuesday (August 01).

Talking about the final ODI, India opted to bat first and rode on fifties from Shubman Gill (85), Ishan Kishan (77), Sanju Samson (51) and skipper Hardik's 52-ball 70* to post 351/5. In reply, Shai Hope-led Windies were bundled out for 151 in 35.3 overs and lost&nbsp;by 200 runs. While Ishan and Gill made a strong case ahead of the ODI World Cup, Samson also did well with an attacking 51.&nbsp;

Samson has only played 13 ODIs since his international debut in 2015. He has scored 390 runs, with three fifties,&nbsp;at an average of 55.71. In 12 innings, he has surpassed the 30-run mark on seven occasions. However, he has never managed to get a long rope and has only featured in the absence of regulars. After his knock, former Indian stumper Saba Karim lauded Samson and labelled him as a 'perfect team man'.

<h2>'Sanju Samson is an enigma'</h2>

"Sanju Samson is an enigma for me. He bats so well. He is a gifted player. Today, his innings was like a whiff of fresh air. He said that that his intent was to go out and be aggressive. The way he handled the leg-spinner, who was looking quite good at that point in time, was so refreshing to watch. This is what Sanju Samson is capable of," Saba Karim told JioCinema after India's ODI series triumph over West Indies.

Karim added, "Sanju Samson has not got a series of chances. He has got in only when your regular players have been rested. It's not been an easy journey so far. But the fact remains that Sanju is still raring to go."

"You send him at No.3, he is more than happy. You send him at No.4, he scores a fifty. You send him down the order.. he is always there as a perfect team man. This is a just reward for Samson's persistence to be in the reckoning in the ODI squad."

IND vs WI: 'He hasn't got many chances but remains....' - Former Indian stumper lauds Sanju Samson

Hardik Pandya-led India thrashed West Indies by 200 runs in the third and final ODI to win the three-match series 2-1. The visitors won the series opener by five wickets and lost the second and penultimate tie by six wickets before dominating proceedings in the series decider. Once again, regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested but a second-string&nbsp;Indian team, who lost the second match rather disappointingly, displayed a strong performance to clinch the series.

There were several impressive performances from the Indian camp in the final ODI. Batting first, India rode on Ishan Kishan's 77, Shubman Gill's 85, Sanju Samson's 51 and stand-in captain Hardik's 52-ball 70 to post 351 for 5. In reply, the Windies bundled out for 151 in 35.3 overs with Shardul Thakur claiming a four-for whereas Mukesh Kumar returned with a three-wicket haul.&nbsp;

As Rohit and Kohli were rested for the final two games, the Indian team tested the likes of Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, etc. Talking about Samson, he came out to bat at No. 4 and returned with a sparkling 41-ball 51, studded with 2 fours and 4 sixes at 124.39. After his high-quality knock, Samson said that it is 'challenging' being an Indian cricketer.

Talking to the broadcasters after India posted a mammoth 351/5, Samson said, "Being an Indian cricketer is challenging, I have played domestic cricket for the last 8-9 years and for India, here and there, so it gives you a bit of understanding of playing in different positions. It is the number of overs you get and it is not about batting position so you have to prepare accordingly."

“It feels really great to spend some time in the middle, score some runs and contribute for your country. I had different plans for different players, I wanted to use my feet and dominate the lengths of the bowlers," he added.

Samson has played 13 ODIs, scoring 390 runs with three half-centuries at an average of 55.71. He remains in contention to make it to India's 15-man squad for the ODI World Cup, to be held later this year in October-November.

Being an Indian cricketer is challenging, says Sanju Samson after a blistering 51 in IND vs WI 3rd ODI

Hardik Pandya-led India thumped West Indies by 200 runs in the third and final ODI, in Trinidad, to win the three-match series 2-1. After resting regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the second and penultimate ODI, where India lost by six wickets, the visitors once again played a second-string&nbsp;side and rode on fifties from Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson and Hardik to post 351 for 5.

In reply, Shai Hope-led Windies were bundled out for 151 in 35.3 overs. After the match,&nbsp;29-year-old Hardik&nbsp;was asked about the venue (i.e. the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad which hosted its first-eve ODI). While Hardik claimed it to be&nbsp;one of the nicest grounds, however, he urged the West Indies Cricket Board (WCI) to ensure there are no hiccups when it&nbsp;comes to making travel arrangements.

<h2>'We don't ask for luxury but need basic necessities taken care of'</h2>

At the post-match presentation, Hardik said, "This was one of the nicest grounds we have played. Things can be better when we come to West Indies next time. Things like travel, hopefully the West Indies cricket board can take note and ensure that there are no hiccups. We don’t ask for luxury but we need some basic necessities taken care of."

IND vs WI 3rd ODI: Check date, time, venue, probable playing XI & more for India vs West Indies ODI final

India lost the second and penultimate ODI to West Indies by six wickets as the visitors continued to experiment with their team combination in the three-match series. In the series opener, India banked on their middle and lower order, with regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli being demoted in the batting line-up, to chase down a paltry 115. In the second ODI, India went without Rohit and Kohli as a second-string&nbsp;Indian team, under Hardik Pandya, managed only 181 to lose by six wickets.

After the defeat, many slammed the Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid-led Indian think tank for their constant experiments with the home ODI World Cup only a few months away. Many former cricketers and experts believe India is tinkering too much with their line-up and remain confused with their team combination ahead of two marquee events, such as the Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI WC. Prior to the third ODI's commencement, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja addressed the media and claimed that there is no confusion as Rohit-Dravid and the team management are sure about their team combination going ahead, especially for the Asia Cup.

"This is the series before the Asia Cup and World Cup, where we can experiment, we can try out new combinations. It will give us an idea about the team's balance, strengths and weaknesses," Jadeja told reporters on the eve of the series decider in Trinidad.

But it's more about trying out a particular player or batter at a batting position."

India will hope to win the three ODIs versus West Indies, who are not even part of the upcoming ODI WC in the subcontinent, on Tuesday (August 01). After this, India will gear up for Asia Cup, which kicks off in Pakistan next month, with the home ODI WC in October-November.

'We know our team combination for Asia Cup' - Jadeja on criticism of constant experiments in WI ODIs

India are set to face West Indies in the third and final ODI in Trinidad on Tuesday (August 01). With the series levelled at 1-1, there is everything to play for the Rohit Sharma-led visitors as they continue to prepare for the forthcoming World Cup at home, which starts on October 05. Ahead of the final ODI, former India captain Kapil Dev made a glaring remark when he stated that the current Indian players are 'arrogant' and feel they know it all due to their big pay cheques.

In an interview with The Week, Kapil reacted to an old statement from his former teammate Sunil Gavaskar, where the Little Master revealed that&nbsp;the current Indian players have never called him up for help despite going through rough patches, unlike yesteryear superstars such as Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, etc.

To this, Kapil opined, "Sometimes, when too much money comes, arrogance comes. These cricketers, they feel they know everything. That's the difference. I would say there are so many cricketers who need help. When Sunil Gavaskar is there, why can't you talk? Why should there be ego? They feel they are good enough. Maybe they are good enough, but extra help from somebody, who has seen 50 seasons of cricket, won't hurt. He knows which side the grass grows and where the sun comes out from."

<h2>'Such questions crop up when....'</h2>

Now, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has reacted to all such claims. In a press conference ahead of the final ODI versus the Windies, Jadeja said, "I didn't know when he said this. In an interview with The Week, Kapil reacted to an old statement from his former teammate Sunil Gavaskar, where the Little Master revealed that the current Indian players have never called him up for help despite going through rough patches, unlike yesteryear superstars such as Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, etc. He knows which side the grass grows and where the sun comes out from." 'Such questions crop up when....' Now, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has reacted to all such claims. In a press conference ahead of the final ODI versus the Windies, Jadeja said, "I didn't know when he said this. I don't search too many things on social media. Everyone has their own opinion. It's nothing like that. Everybody is enjoying their game and working hard. Players are not taking their place in the team for granted. Whenever they are getting chances, they are giving their 100 per cent and trying to win games for India." 'Players are not...': Ravindra Jadeja reacts to Kapil Dev's claim of current Indian players being arrogant

Rohit Sharma-led India beat West Indies by five wickets in the series opener of the three ODIs, being held in the Caribbean island. With the 2023 ODI World Cup set to be held in October-November, in India, Rohit &amp; Co. are now left with&nbsp;only a handful of ODIs in the run-up to the mega event at home. Thus, the series versus the lowly-ranked West Indies is crucial in their preparations.&nbsp;

The Men in Blue stood tall and dominated proceedings in the first ODI, dismissing the Windies for a paltry 114 after opting to bowl first, and chased down the score in 22.5 overs. Ravindra Jadeja's three-fer and Kuldeep Yadav's 4 for 6 led the show for India before Ishan Kishan's 52 and unbeaten cameos from Jadeja-Rohit took India past the finish line.&nbsp;

During the run-chase, India shuffled their batting order as Ishan opened with Shubman Gill whereas Suryakumar Yadav, vice-captain Hardik Pandya, Shardul Thakur and Jadeja were also promoted. India's two experienced campaigners such as Virat Kohli and Rohit were demoted&nbsp;and Hitman explained the reason behind the move.&nbsp;

<h2>'We will keep trying these things whenever possible'</h2>

At the post-match presentation, Rohit revealed, "We wanted to give game time to the ODI guys who have come in, we will keep trying those things whenever possible. To restrict them to 115, we knew we could try these guys and give them a go. I don't think they'll get many chances like this."

Rohit came out to bat at No. 7 whereas Kohli didn't feature in the run-chase. On him batting at No. 7, the Indian captain pointed out, "I made my debut for India and was batting at number 7, reminded me of those days."

With Rohit and Kohli experienced enough, India is focusing on giving their middle and lower-order batters enough chances -- wherever available -- in the run-up to the ODI WC, which starts on October 05. While only Ishan (52) made full use of batting at the top, India will be happy with other middle and lower-order batters also being exposed in the middle. They will hope for more such chances where they can&nbsp;experiment&nbsp;in the upcoming ODIs.

The second and penultimate ODI kicks off on Saturday (July 29) as Rohit &amp; Co. will hope to claim&nbsp;an unassailable lead.

IND vs WI: Rohit Sharma explains why India shuffled their batting line-up in 1st ODI amid WC preparations

Rohit Sharma-led India demolished West Indies by five wickets in the series opener of the three-ODI series on Thursday (July 27) in Barbados. Opting to bowl first, India rode on Kuldeep Yadav's 4 for 6 and Ravindra Jadeja's 3 for 37 to dismiss Shai Hope-led Windies for a paltry 114 in 23 overs. In reply, India shuffled their batting order considerably and lost wickets at regular intervals but still won comfortably in 22.5 overs.

There was plenty to cheer for Team India in the ODI series opener. While the spin duo Kuldeep and Jadeja excelled, India's fielding was also up to the mark with Kohli pulling off a stunner. As Jadeja induced a big edge&nbsp;off Romario Shepherd, Kohli -- stationed at second slip -- reacted in a jiffy and plucked a one-handed stunner.&nbsp;&nbsp;Shubman Gill, who was at first slip, gave an unmissable reaction. Watch: Shubman Gill reacts after Virat Kohli pulls off a one-handed stunner in IND vs WI 1st ODI

Ahead of the first ODI of the three-match series versus West Indies, in Barbados, Indian captain Rohit Sharma addressed the media and gave a fitting reply when asked a repetitive question about Virat Kohli. A&nbsp;reporter asked whether Kohli's lack of tons is a concern for Team India. To this, the national captain Rohit stated that he has answered this query on several occasions in the past and insisted that the team doesn't care about “outside noises.”

“I've answered this question a lot of times. All the outside talk, who scored how many, took how many wickets... people who say such things don't know what happens inside. For us, what happens inside stays inside. We prefer that. For us, the most important is to win matches, not who's talking about what. It doesn't matter to us,” Rohit said in the press conference. He added,&nbsp;“Our priority is the three ODI matches right now, we're focussing on that."

In early 2023, the 34-year-old broke his Test century drought before also ending his overseas Test ton dry spell during the recently-concluded two Tests versus West Indies, in the Caribbean island.&nbsp;

While Kohli is not scoring big in every game, he has been among runs with hundreds coming from his willow from time to time.&nbsp;The former Indian captain will look to score big in the three ODIs versus the Windies. He averages a brilliant&nbsp;66.50 with nine centuries and 11 fifties versus the Men in Maroon.&nbsp;

Rohit Sharma-led India beat West Indies 1-0 to win the two-match Test series, on the Caribbean island, on Monday (July 24). The fifth and final day's play of the series decider was completely washed out due to persistent rain as India failed to complete&nbsp;a series whitewash and couldn't add more points to their kitty in the 2023-25 WTC cycle. However, there is plenty to cheer for Indian fans as young guns such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan and Mohammed Siraj made a mark whereas seniors such as R Ashwin, captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were in top form.&nbsp;

Talking about Jaiswal, the left-hander became the 17th Indian, and 113th player overall, to score a century on Test debut. He scored a sublime 171 in the series opener and returned with the Player-of-the-Match award. In the series finale, the 21-year-old ended with 57 and a 30-ball 38 to end as the highest run-getter in the two Tests (with 266 runs). Thus, former Indian keeper-batter Deep Dasgupta lauded Jaiswal and feels 'he is comfortable and is ready for this level'.

<h2>'Jaiswal is going to get better'</h2>

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Jaiswal said, "That is a big positive. The way he batted, he looked comfortable. But again, he will face a lot of sterner challenges going forward in this format. The next series itself is going to be a huge challenge against South Africa. But I think what we have seen so far, it seems like he is comfortable and he is ready for this level. He is only going to get better. This was his first outing and he looked so good."

Dasgupta also praised Ishan Kishan, who also made his Test debut in the WI series. Kishan was impressive behind the stumps and scored his maiden fifty (34-ball 52 not out) in India's second innings of the final Test. “The fact of the matter is that Kishan is the kind of player that you would want in that middle-order, lower middle-order. He fits in that really nicely. He ticks a lot of those boxes. Keeping-wise, he looks stable, he looks solid. Nothing flamboyant or flashy, but consistent. He hasn't played a lot of red-ball cricket,” the ex-cricketer added.

India's next Test series is post the 2023 ODI World Cup. The team will tour South Africa for a two-match Test series and the likes of Jaiswal, Kishan, etc. will be eager to learn from their experience in the Caribbean island and make a mark in the African nation as well.&nbsp;

'He is ready for this level': Former India keeper-batter lauds young star after West Indies Tests

India and West Indies played out a tame draw in the second and final Test, in Port-of-Spain in Trinidad, after the final day's play got washed out on Monday (July 24). After gaining a whopping 183-run lead, courtesy of Mohammed Siraj's 5 for 60, India accelerated from the word go in their second essay on the fourth day, with rain already making its presence felt. Thus, they managed to set up a challenging 365-run target for the hosts. Day Five was going to be a tough contest between bat and ball, with West Indies in search of 289 more runs whereas India needed eight more scalps for a win.

Nonetheless, rain played spoilsport to the entire day as honours were shared with India winning the series 1-0. Talking about Rohit Sharma &amp; Co.'s approach in the second innings, it impressed one and all as the visitors declared at 181 for 2 in just 24 overs (with a run rate of 7.54). Thus, many compared India's style of play with England's Bazball. Recently, Ishan Kishan -- who slammed an unbeaten 34-ball 52 in India's second essay&nbsp;-- opined on England's Bazball and made a big claim.&nbsp;

Kishan feels England's Bazball is only possible on flat tracks. "It is not possible that you can play that fast every day, it depends upon the situation also," he told the reporters after Day five of the second Test got completely washed out.

I don't think it is necessary that we must play in an aggressive manner in every match, but whenever there will be a need of playing attacking cricket, we have got enough firepower in our ranks. I don't think you can always play attacking shots in Test cricket."

A lot has been said and written about England's Bazball approach in the red-ball format ever since Ben Stokes became the captain along with Brendon McCullum joining in as the head coach&nbsp;in early 2022. Since then, the Three Lions have been on a roll in whites but lost a golden opportunity to win a home Ashes series in the ongoing 2023 edition after the fourth and penultimate Test, in Manchester, ended in a draw. After gaining a whopping 183-run lead, courtesy of Mohammed Siraj's 5 for 60, India accelerated from the word go in their second essay on the fourth day, with rain already making its presence felt. Thus, they managed to set up a challenging 365-run target for the hosts. IND vs WI: Ishan Kishan not in favour of England's Bazball, says it can only be executed on flat tracks

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishaan Kishan marked his Test debut against the West Indies. In the first test, he opened his account in 20 balls. But, in the second Test at Port of Spain, when he got a chance to bat at number 4 in place of Virat Kohli, Ishan hit the first fifty of his Test career. Ishan played only 33 balls. He completed his half-century with a six. After day 4 play, the Indian wicket-keeper thanked fellow cricketer Rishabh Pant for some batting tips. If reports are to be believed, Ishan also played the innings with Pant’s bat.

Ishan Kishan talked about his half-century after the end of the fourth day's play of the Port of Spain Test. During this, he thanked fellow wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who has been out of Team India due to injuries. “Before coming to the West Indies, I was at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. Rishabh Pant was also there. He gave me some tips regarding batting.

Told how I should keep the bat position. We have been playing cricket together since under-19. He knows a lot about my batting. So he suggested to me about the bat position. Will be thankful for that,” Ishan Kishan said.

Ishaan came out to bat at number 4, Virat Kohli's regular spot, in the second innings. This wicketkeeper also narrated their story and revealed that this half-century is special for him. “I knew what the team wanted from me. Everyone supported me. Virat supported me and told me to go and play my game. Virat bhai took the initiative and told me that I should go for batting at number 4. Because at that time a left-arm spinner was bowling from the West Indies side. It proved to be a good decision for the team.”

IND vs WI: Why Ishan Kishan thanked Rishabh Pant after maiden Test fifty

After riding on Mohammed Siraj's 5 for 60, India bundled out West Indies for 255 in their first innings on Sunday (July 23). In reply to India's 438, the Windies were 208 for 4 before Siraj struck at regular intervals to help his side take a massive 183-run lead on Day Four. In their second essay, India entered the record books with the fastest team hundred in the format as captain Rohit Sharma (44-ball 57) and Yashavi Jaiswal (30-ball 38) set the foundation for some quick runs. Ishan Kishan, promoted at No. 4, carried on from where Rohit-Jaiswal left and smashed a quickfire fifty.

Kishan returned with an impressive and attacking 34-ball 52 (laced with 4 fours and 2 sixes) as India declared at 181 for 2, setting up a challenging 365-run target for the home side. At Stumps on Day Four, West Indies are 76 for 2 and have a herculean task to save the series. After the end of the day's play, Kishan revealed it was Virat Kohli who sacrificed his usual batting slot, i.e. at No. 4 and asked for Kishan's promotion.&nbsp;

<h2>'Virat backed me and told me go and play your game'</h2>

Kishan told the broadcasters, "Was really special. I knew what the team needed from me. Everyone backed me. Virat backed me and told me go and play your game. Let's hope we will finish the game tomorrow. It was Virat bhai who took the initiative and told that I should go in. There was a slow left-armer who was bowling. It was a good call for the team. Sometimes you need to take these calls. We had the plan that we will play 10-12 overs after the rain break and score 70-80 runs. We wanted a 370-380 target."

On Day Five, on Monday (July 24), Rohit &amp; Co. will look to wrap up the Windies' innings in a flash and inflict a series whitewash. The Indian team won the series opener by an innings and 141 runs. They will be eager to add more points to their kitty in the new 2023-25 WTC cycle.

WI vs IND: 'He took the initiative...' - Kishan reveals Kohli backed him to bat at No. 4 after maiden fifty

Former India player and World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir has backed young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for future success after a bright start to his international career. Jaiswal has hit the ground running at the international level having scored a hundred in his debut innings against West Indies in the first Test match. According to Gambhir, the Indian Premier League (IPL) was just a small stage for him as he predicts him to have a bright future.

<h2>Gambhir backs Jaiswal</h2>

"In India, the issue is that we take the 2 months of IPL so seriously that whoever does well we add him to the Indian team. Jaiswal has scored a double hundred in domestic cricket both in First Class and One-Day matches," Gambhir said about the talented Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter.

The Mumbai batter has been in excellent form for the last couple of years and has scored a hundred for India and RR while also registering the fastest fifty in IPL history. He has also scored a double hundred in the domestic circuit as he continues to impress the selectors.

Jaiswal has taken the international stage by storm as he backed his hundred in Dominica with a fifty in Port of Spain. Interestingly, his arrival has pushed Shubman Gill down the batting order and looks to have thrown a stern warning to KL Rahul, who is out of the Indian team due to injury.

Jaiswal has already built good chemistry with skipper Rohit Sharma with two hundred-run partnerships. In the first Test, both Rohit and Jaiswal put a stand of 229 runs for the opening wicket while they again repeated the trick in the second match with a 139-run stand in the first innings of the second Test match.

<h2>India make good start</h2>

India started brightly in the second Test match, putting on 438 runs before being bowled out on Day 2. Virat Kohli was back in runs as he scored 121 while Ravichandran Ashwin (56) and Rohit Sharma (80) were also among the scorers. At the time of writing on Day 3, West Indies were 117/2 as rain played spoilsport in the match.

Gautam Gambhir backs THIS young star for future success, says 'IPL is merely the icing on the cake'

Virat Kohli achieved another record when India stepped on the field to take on West Indies in the opening day of the second and final Test in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad on Thursday (July 20). Kohli became only the tenth player to enter the 500-match club when India were asked to bat first in the series finale, being held in the Caribbean island.

Among Indians, Kohli became only the fourth player to reach the coveted club. Sachin Tendulkar leads the overall list (664) whereas MS Dhoni (538) and current head coach Rahul Dravid (509) occupy the second and third spot, respectively, in the list featuring Indians.&nbsp;On Thursday, Kohli attained the fourth position in his landmark appearance.

Debuting in 2008, Kohli soon became India's go-to-batter across formats and has amassed over 25,000 international runs along with 75 tons. On Day One of the second Test, Kohli came out to bat at 153 for 2 and saw his side lose two quick wickets before&nbsp;the tea break. However, he remained undeterred, looked focused and in complete control, ran hard between wickets to take India to 288 for 4 at stumps, being unbeaten on 87 along with Ravindra Jadeja (34*).&nbsp;

During the 72nd over, Kohli-Jadeja ran hard to add two more runs to the scoreboard. While completing the second run, Kohli realised he was in danger&nbsp;and, thus, dived to save himself. His efforts bore fruits as he survived and his commitment was hailed by former cricketer-turned-commentator Ian Bishop.

Bishop reflected on Kohli's commitment and intensity&nbsp;when play was stopped momentarily. He said, "Absolutely superb. That's the sort of desperation you love to see incorporated in your batting and batsmanship. This is a Test match. You sometimes see guys doing this in desperation in a one-day or white-ball scenario, but here is a guy who has been around for 500 international games and in a Test match, knows the value of every run. Putting his body on the line and diving to make sure he's in. That tells you how badly he wants whatever he gets out of this innings."

It is to be noted that play was halted for a brief period&nbsp;for Kohli, who was attended&nbsp;by the team physio after his desperate dive. After preventing a&nbsp;run-out, the 34-year-old&nbsp;signalled for the physio instantly. The former Indian captain's jersey was in a mess and he also did some&nbsp;damage to his already-taped finger. However, Kohli put his body on the line for the team's cause.

<h2>'I wish I could get every young batter in the Caribbean - male and female - running like that...'</h2>

Thus, Bishop was in awe of Kohli and added, "I wish I could get every young batter in the Caribbean - male and female - running like that and not just sitting back waiting for boundaries. You know how much you can top up your scores but this sort of intensity... I have seen a number of batters no desperate enough to dive and commit themselves like that. This is a good example."

Day One proved to be memorable&nbsp;for Kohli. Having entered the 500-match club, he also achieved more milestones during his unbeaten 87. The right-hander became India's fifth-highest scorer in Tests, fifth-highest run getter in international cricket and also the fifth-highest run-scorer by a batter at No. 4 in whites.

Kohli will aim to get to his 29th Test century -- which will be his second of 2023 -- when Day Two kicks off in Trinidad on Friday (July 21).

'Here is a guy who has been around for 500 int'ls...' Bishop lauds Kohli's commitment on Day 1 of 2nd Test

India is taking on West Indies in the second and final Test on Thursday (July 20) at Port-of-Spain in Trinidad. Having won the series opener by an innings and 141 runs, Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. will aim for a series whitewash to also add vital points in their kitty in the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Ahead of the second Test's commencement, Hitman hinted that India won't tinker too much with their playing XI after having won the first Test, in Dominica, without dropping much sweat.&nbsp;

Rohit also spoke at length about Ishan Kishan, who made his Test debut in&nbsp;the series opener. He was unbeaten on 1 in India's first innings&nbsp;but was impressive behind the stumps. Rohit revealed that Ishan has been given full freedom to play in his attacking manner even in the purest format of the game.&nbsp;

Speaking to the reporters ahead of the second Test, Rohit said, "Ishan is a very talented player. We have seen it in the short career that he has had for India. He scored a double hundred in limited overs. He has the game, we have the responsibility to chisel that talent. We have to give him opportunities. He is a left-handed batter. He likes playing aggressive cricket. I have had clear discussions with him, and I have explained to him how the team management wants him to play. He has been given freedom. He has the game, he needs the freedom and we will give him the opportunity."

Rohit also opined on Ishan's wicketkeeping skills. He stated, "I would like to speak specifically about his wicket-keeping. He kept really, really well considering he played his first Test and to keep against Ashwin and Jadeja where the ball is turning and bouncing and some balls keeping low as well... I was very impressed with his keeping skills. Unfortunately, he got to score just one run as we had to declare. We want our top-order batters bat long. With India entering a transition phase, given the likes of Rohit, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, R Ashwin, etc. being in the last phase of their careers, the national side is focused on backing their young stars. The current Test squad comprises Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mukesh Kumar, Ishan, etc. The visiting side is keen on seeing their youngsters flourish. After Jaiswal's blitz in the series opener, India will hope for Ishan to get a big score in the final Test.

IND vs WI: Aakash Chopra showers praise at Virat for 500th match, says 'this is a very special achievement'

India are gearing up for the second and final Test versus West Indies, in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, which commences on Thursday (July 20). After a mammoth innings and 141-run win in the series opener, Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. will be confident in taking on the depleted hosts. All eyes will once again be on India's promising youngsters. Yashasvi Jaiswal debuted in the first Test and returned with a brilliant 171. Thus, it will be interesting to see if Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mukesh Kumar get a chance in the final Test.

At present, Indian cricket is in an interesting phase. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, R Ashwin, etc. are in the last phase of their careers but have a big role to play in shaping up the younger lot. In this regard, Captain Rohit told reporters that the transition will take place sooner or later, but emphasised the importance of the role of seniors in grooming the juniors.

<h2>'Our role is important as we have to give them clarity'</h2>

While highlighting the potential of the emerging players, Rohit stated, "Transition has to happen, whether today or tomorrow but I am happy that our boys who are coming in are doing well. And our role is important as we have to give them role clarity. Now it's up to them how they want to prepare and perform for the team. ... And we rely on those individuals and obviously they are the future of Indian cricket and they will take Indian cricket to greater heights."

In this regard, Rohit said, "It’s an honour to be taking the Indian team into this game and it doesn’t happen every day. The two teams have so much history, and so much good cricket played. I will expect no different in this Test. I am sure they (Windies) will bounce back and it will be exciting for both teams."

WI vs IND: Rohit Sharma talks about role of seniors in grooming youngsters as India aims for smooth transition

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the star for India in their two-match Test series opener versus West Indies in Dominica. After R Ashwin's five-for led to the Windies being bundled out for 150, India rode on centuries from captain Rohit Sharma (103) and debutant Jaiswal, who slammed an impressive 171, to declare at 421 for 5 with an overall lead of 271. In reply, Ashwin again starred with the ball, returning with 7 for 71, as India dismissed the hosts for 130 to win by an innings and 141 runs.&nbsp;

Thus, Jaiswal is off to a brilliant start to his international career as he also ended with the Player-of-the-Match award. Ahead of the second and final Test, in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, India's batting coach Vikram Rathour heaped praise on the swashbuckling left-hander and made a big statement.

<h2>Yashasvi is a dynamic batsman:&nbsp;Rathour</h2>

In a press conference, Rathour said, "I’ve been a selector before, so whenever you pick a player you should pick him with the intent that he will play for India for the next 10 years. He definitely has the potential."

“For me, the most important thing (even though) I haven’t worked with Yashasvi before, was that I had seen him scoring runs at the IPL, you saw how dynamic a batsman he is, the kind of stroke player he is. But he managed to change the game according to the situation of the team," he added.

Jaiswal stitched a mammoth 229-run opening stand with captain Rohit (103) to become only the 17th Indian, 113th overall, to slam a ton on his Test debut. He started off on a promising note and while he took a step back during Day Two's proceedings, he always looked in complete control and took his innings forward. After a stunning start to his red-ball career, Jaiswal said at the post-match presentation, "Preparation was pretty good. We were having a nice session. Spoke a lot to Rahul Dravid sir. Would like to thank all the selectors and Rohit (Sharma) bhai for having faith in me. It's really nice, I have been working for this. I've been focusing on preparing well and having discipline. Playing Test cricket for India is very special and emotional for me. This is just the start, I need to keep my focus and keep working on my cricket."
