Gill reached the city on Wednesday (Oct 11) and&nbsp;trained in an exclusive batting session in Motera&nbsp; on Thursday. The 24-year-old also took part in&nbsp;fielding drills after returning to the ground for the first time since recovering from dengue.

As per reports, Gill&nbsp;batted for nearly an&nbsp;hour before noon, as physio Kamlesh and throwdown specialist Nuwan's looked on, against&nbsp;few local net bowlers.

The star batter was admitted to a Chennai hospital after his platelet&nbsp;count dipped post missing India's CWC 2023 opener, versus Australia in the city's iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium. However, it is still thought that Gill won’t play the World Cup match as he is yet to be match-fit against the arch-rivals Pakistan.

While the Indian team was playing against Afghanistan on Wednesday, Gill arrived in Ahmedabad to prepare for the clash. Gill spent a night at the Kaurvery Hospital in Chennai and returned to the hotel before taking the flight to Ahmedabad. It was advised by the doctors that Gill was good enough to take a flight to Ahmedabad as he could not fly to Delhi with his teammates because his platelet count was low and a flight journey was not advisable.

The rest of the Indian team is expected to arrive in Ahmedabad on Thursday evening as they prepare for the crunch clash. The team’s press conference takes place on Friday with a brief practice session scheduled for Thursday. The team will train with a full warm-up session on Friday, which will give a clear idea of how fit Gill will be.

It is thought that team management is not willing to take any risk with Gill, but will explore any opportunities if he trains on Friday. However, with no rush to get him back in the team, Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma are likely to continue as the openers. Gavaskar said on Star Sports, "When you are chasing 350 runs, it takes a lot. They also lost a couple of early wickets in the game. I think more than anything else, I mean, we have all known about what Rizwan can do. But Abdullah Shafique, he looked like a Test batter. The cricketer-turned-commentator added, "More than anything else, Pakistan would have realised that they do not have to depend on Babar. According to reports, they remain the only team yet to receive visa clearance with the rest of the eight traveling teams cleared.

The tensions between the nations have been a big friction point for the nations to cross the border. The two nations have not played a bilateral series since 2012-13 when Pakistan won the ODI series 2-1. Pakistan have not been in India since the 2016 T20 World Cup, with recent encounters between India and Pakistan coming in multi-national tournaments.

The Asia Cup 2023 edition has been a huge letdown for cricket fans across the globe. The continental tournament kicked off on August 30 in Multan, Pakistan before the action shifted completely to Colombo, Sri Lanka for the Super Four round. While the multi-nation event is being held to help the participating teams prepare for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which starts early next month, but a lot of games have been interrupted due to persistent rain in Sri Lanka.&nbsp;

During the Super Four game between India and Pakistan, which has been pushed to the reserve day on Monday (September 10) due to rain and wet outfield, former Indian cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri opined on why Dubai was not considered as host for the Asia Cup.

It is to be noted that Dubai was also in talks to become joint-hosts or the sole host but got ruled out eventually. Shastri has backed the decision as he feels the hot and humid conditions in Dubai would have 'finished' players before the ODI World Cup in India, in October-November.

Manjrekar's statements came following former Pakistan speedster Waqar Younis' words of praise for Hardik and Jadeja.&nbsp;

"Look at what Hardik and Jadeja bring to the table. They are well equipped with both bat and ball. <h2>Rahul returns to Team India</h2>

Rahul’s inclusion in the Indian team saw Shreyas Iyer miss out due to a back spasm, as told by skipper Rohit Sharma at the toss. This will be Rahul’s first match for Team India since March having missed the West Indies and Ireland tour. He is expected to bat No.4 with Ishan Kishan coming in at No.5.It will also be interesting who keeps the gloves as Rahul is yet to fully recover from the injury issue.

On the bowling side, Bumrah also returned from paternity leave and replaced experienced Shami as Shardul Thakur kept his place in the Playing XI. Bumrah played in India’s last encounter against Pakistan in Kandy but had to return to Mumbai for the birth of his first child. His return to the side gives India a massive boost.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the toss and elected to bowl first in challenging conditions in Colombo. This will be the 15th meeting between the sides at the Asia Cup, with India leading the head-to-head affairs 7-5. Last week’s group stage contest was called off after rain played spoilsport in Kandy.

A win for Pakistan will see them all but through to next Sunday’s final while a win for India will make interesting readings in the Super Four. Both India and Pakistan are so far undefeated in the Asia Cup 2023 with rain also a big factor in Sunday’s clash. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has already announced a reserve day for the India vs Pakistan clash if rain plays spoilsport on Sunday.
