The theme also voices India’s efforts to contribute globally and find solutions to major world issues as&nbsp;one big family.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What is G20?</strong></h2>

<p>G20 is a Group of 20 major world economies, comprising 19 nations and the European Union (EU). The group accounts for around 80 per cent of the&nbsp;gross world product (GWP), 75 per cent of international trade, two-thirds of the global population and 60 per cent of the world’s land area.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It includes Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Britain, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United States and the European Union.</p>

<p>Since September 4, the Indian Air Force has been carrying out a major training exercise codenamed Trishul in the northern sector of the country, along the border with China and Pakistan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to ANI, IAF officials said that only the flying operations of the aircraft involved in Trishul would be paused while other routine flying operations would continue as planned.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Between September 7 and 10, the IAF will also start operating its Phalcon airborne warning and control systems (AWACS) aircraft to keep an eye on the air space across the country as well as protect the air space over the Indian capital for the upcoming G20 summit, reported ANI, citing defence sources.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The IAF will also reportedly deploy its Rafale and other fighter jets at their advanced air bases to protect Delhi and will use surface-to-air missile systems in and around the country’s capital to shoot down any enemy aircraft or rogue drones.</p>

<p>Air Force One took off from Joint Base Andrews near Washington and will land in New Delhi, India on Friday.<br />

"As the president heads to the G20, he's committed to working with emerging market partners to deliver big things together," said White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, in a press briefing ahead of the summit.</p>

On Thursday, Jill Biden also tested negative. Chinese Premier Xi Jinping will not be attending the G20 meeting at a time of heightened geopolitical and trade tensions with the United States and India.</p>

<p>Ahead of the G20 summit in New Delhi, the World Bank has prepared a policy document which highlights how India achieved an impressive financial inclusion rate of 80 per cent within just six years, thanks to revolutionary steps taken by the government of India.</p>

<p>The G20 policy document specifically mentions the government’s initiatives such as Jan Dhan Yojana, Aadhar and Mobile phones (the JAM trinity). Notably, the document says, it may have taken India a whopping 47 years to achieve this feat otherwise.</p>

<p>The remarkable achievement of the Indian government has been highlighted in the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) document. India also plans to showcase the document at the summit to highlight its success on the global forum.</p>

<h2><strong>India’s major achievements</strong></h2>

<p>The document noted how transactions through UPI amounted to nearly 50 per cent of India’s nominal GDP in the last financial year. “Banks’ costs of onboarding customers in India decreased from $23 to $0.1 with the use of DPI. As of March 2022, India did total savings of $33 billion, equivalent to nearly 1.14% of GDP, due to Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT),” the document read.</p>

<p>The World Bank also observed how Indians, especially in cities, were “quick and transformative”, which was very well reflected as UPI quickly gained acceptance amongst the masses, also pushed by demonetisation by the government.</p>

For the financial year 2022-23, the total value of UPI transaction was nearly 50% of India’s nominal GDP,” the World Bank report mentioned.</p>

<p>In the end, the report says India has managed to build one of the world’s largest government-to-people infrastructure, which has drastically revolutionised India’s governance regime.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the White House, <strong>US President Joe Biden</strong> will arrive in Delhi on Friday evening (Sept 08). He will be following all COVID-19 guidelines of the&nbsp;Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during his visit to India.</p>

<p>The <strong>Canadian PM Justin Trudeau</strong> will also be arriving on Friday evening. He will be received by MoS Rajeev Chandrasekhar.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chinese President Xi Jinping will be missing the G20 Summit, however, <strong>Chinese Premier Li Qiang</strong> is expected to land around 7:45 pm on Friday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The silverware on which G20 delegates will be served food is adorned with intricately engraved motifs. Around 15,000 pieces of silverware have been crafted by over 200 artisans in around 50,000 man-hours, Jaipur-based metalware firm, Iris Jaipur, said.</p>

<p>On Tuesday, the firm held a preview of its traditional cutlery intended for serving food to the guests attending the G20 Summit in the national capital.&nbsp;</p>

G20 agrees to grant permanent membership to African Union: Report

<p>Only two days are left for the high-stakes G20 Summit to commence in India’s national capital New Delhi.</p>

<p>Even as India works to raise its global profile with its presidency of the G20, there has been some geo-political friction&nbsp;that is likely to have an impact on the marquee event.</p>

<p>What would be the outcome of this year’s G20 event could be anybody’s guess, but Indian officials have confirmed that climate change shall remain the hot topic of the conclave, despite friction&nbsp;caused by the Russia-Ukraine war and Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping’s absence.</p>

<p>The G20 climate talks would carry forward the discussions that took place in the July meeting by the energy and climate ministers during which negotiators failed to reach a consensus on key parameters.</p>

<h2><strong>Climate change&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Despite difficult conversations and lack of any clarity on key issues, like phasing down of fossil fuels, climate finance, means of implementing energy transition and reforms of multilateral banks (MDBs), there is some hope that the G20 heads of state and government will be able to gather minimum consensus needed to project unity among the group.</p>

<p>"India has already demonstrated leadership with bold and ambitious climate actions and will achieve two out of three quantifiable targets set forth in the NDC by 2030 – reducing the emissions intensity of GDP by 33-35 per cent from 2005 levels and 40 per cent non-fossil fuel installed electricity capacity in 2030,” Sanjay Vashist, Director, Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA) said.</p>

<p>Linda Kalcher, Executive Director, Strategic Perspectives, noted that India can leverage its position and use the G20 forum to achieve key climate targets and simultaneously achieve consensus on climate aid from the developed countries.</p>

The renewables goal can only become a success at COP28 if it comes with a financial package to ensure it can be achievable for developing countries. The EU and other rich countries can raise the stakes on climate ambition. They can lower the cost of capital and forge new economic partnerships on renewable manufacturing and deployment,” Kalcher said.</p>

<p>“Host-country India wants to become a champion on solar energy - it needs more public and private finance to make this a reality though.”</p>
