IPL 2022: David Warner becomes first overseas player to achieve massive feat with fifty against KKR

Delhi Capitals (DC) rode on impressive knocks from Prithvi Shaw and David Warner to thrash Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 44 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Sunday. Shaw and Warner combined to get DC off to a flying start after the Rishabh Pant-led side were put to bat first by KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Shaw and Warner slammed half-centuries apiece as they added a brilliant stand of 93 runs for the first wicket. Shaw slammed a quickfire 51 off 29 deliveries laced with seven fours and two sixes, Warner scored 61 off 45 balls. After Shaw's departure in the 9th over, DC skipper Rishabh Pant promoted himself at number three and scored 27 off just 14 balls to carry the momentum.

Shaw was on top of his game as he went after the KKR bowlers right from the word go and played fearlessly in the Powerplay to help DC get off to a brilliant start. The fifties from him and Warner set up the stage for a big total for the Capitals as they ended up posting 215 runs on the bard in 20 overs after cameos from Shardul Thakur (29 off 11) and Axar Patel (22 off 14) towards the end.

After setting up a huge target of 216 runs for KKR, DC bowlers went on to capitalise early during the run-chase as Khaleel Ahmed struck twice in successive overs to get rid of openers Venkatesh Iyer (18) and Ajinkya Rahane (8) cheaply. After the duo's dismissal, Kuldeep Yadav ran through DC's lower-middle order as the spinner came back to haunt his former side.

Kuldeep picked up the wickets of KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer, Pat Cummins, Sunil Narine and Umesh Yadav to finish with excellent figures of 4/35 in his 4 overs while Khaleel picked up three wickets for just 25 runs off his four overs. Khaleel dismissed Iyer, Rahane and Sam Billings in his spell to set up a comfortable win for DC.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer top-scored for KKR with his 54 off 33 balls and added 69 runs for the third wicket with Nitish Rana, who looked in good touch during his 20-ball 30 but the duo failed to stay out in the middle for long to see their side home. KKR did have power-hitter Andre Russell till the 20th over but the West Indies all-rounder failed to middle the ball properly and could only score 24 off 21 balls.

IPL 2022: Prithvi Shaw, Khaleel Ahmed shine as Delhi Capitals register thumping win over KKR

Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) will be desperately looking to bounce back to winning ways when they lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Sunday (April 10). DC, who got off to a winning start with a 4-wicket victory against Mumbai Indians in their opening game, have faced back-to-back defeats in their last two games.

Delhi Capitals suffered a heartbreaking six-wicket defeat against Lucknow Super Giants in their last game after failing to defend a total of 149 runs. Despite getting a good start in the game, DC's middle-order failed to score quickly as they could only manage a moderate total on the board.

However, Pant & Co. were touted as favourites to defend the total with the return of pacer Anrich Nortje. But Quinton de Kock went on to play a sensational knock of 52-ball 80 and took Nortje to the cleaners to help his side get over the line. DC will be hoping to not repeat the mistakes with the bat and the ball against KKR on Sunday.

While DC have lost their last two games, KKR have managed back-to-back wins in their last two matches. Australian pacer Pat Cummins' return has not only bolstered KKR's pace attack but has also strengthened their batting line-up significantly. KKR will be hoping to continue their winning run against DC on Sunday.

After a riveting three-match Test series between Pakistan and Australia, the action now moves onto the limited-overs as Babar Azam-led hosts face Aaron Finch's Men in Yellow in the series opener of the three ODIs on Tuesday (March 29).

The action between the two teams will resume in the same venue, where the third and final Test was played. The Men in Green return to the ODI format after a long gap and will be eager to give their all. They have a solid squad in the form of Babar, Md Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali, etc.

On the other hand, Finch & Co. are without the likes of David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Pat Cummins. In addition, injury to all-rounder Mitchell Marsh and Covid-positive test for Josh Iglis have caused some concerns for the visitors. They still have the likes of Finch, Cameron Green, Adam Zampa, Marcus Stoinis, Alex Carey, Marnus Labuschagne to rely upon.

PakvsAus: When and where to watch Pakistan vs Australia 1st ODI - IST time and streaming details

The third and final Test between Pakistan and Australia is going down the wire. Plenty of action, drama and entertainment has been witnessed during the course of the final Test, in Lahore, and the fourth and penultimate day wasn't any different.

After Aussie openers, David Warner and Usman Khawaja, resumed the day's play at 11/0 for Pat Cummins & Co. in the third innings, with an overall lead of 134 runs. Soon, Warner was involved in a heated exchange with umpire Ahsan Raza.

How it all panned out

The incident took place in the 21st over of Australia's second innings on Thursday (March 24). Warner was batting slightly out of his crease when both the on-field umpires Aleem Dar and Raza walked up to him and requested him not to run on the centre of the 22-yard cricket strip.

The 35-year-old swashbuckling opener was taken aback. He wasn't happy with the umpires' interruption and claimed that he wasn't doing anything wrong. Soon, the discussion turned into a heated exchange and the clip of the same went viral in no time.

Warner was caught saying on the camera, "You want me to play my shot like this...” on the stump mic while signalling towards the side of the crease. To this, the umpire Raza replied, "Yes, you have to move.”

“Show me in the rule book where that’s what I’ve got to do. I won’t start until you show me,” Warner was quick to respond. Here's the clip:

Pakistan were in a strong position on Day 3 of the ongoing third and final Test versus Australia at the Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore on Wednesday (March 23). After resuming the day's play at 90-1, in reply to Australia's first-innings score of 391, Azhar Ali and Abdullah Shafique's fifties took the hosts to a commanding position, at 214-2.

While Pakistan did concede a bit of momentum to be reduced to 264-5, they still had skipper Babar Azam in the middle and would've fancied getting close to Aussies' 391. Nonetheless, what followed was complete mayhem for the home side as they went from 264-5 to 268 all-out. Pat Cummins' 5 for 56 and Mitchell Starc's 4 for 33 led to Aussies' 123-run lead as the visitors are now in the driver's seat to clinch the series.

Day Three, on Wednesday (March 23), lived upto expectations as the match saw the momentum shift from one side to the other before the visitors ended the day's play at 11 for no loss, after bundling out Babar Azam-led Pakistan for 268 (getting a healthy 123-run lead). On the last ball of the riveting day's proceedings, Aussie opener David Warner and Pakistan speedster Shaheen Afridi were involved in a hilariously epic face-off. From 264-5, Pakistan put Australia in a commanding position by being all-out for 268. Thus, they lost their last five wickets for mere four runs. Pakistan have a tough day on cards on Thursday (March 24) as the home side will fight hard in the penultimate innings and not allow Australia to dictate terms in the contest.

From KL Rahul to Ruturaj Gaikwad: Top five contenders for Orange Cap in IPL 2022

The excitement for IPL 2022 is on another level as the upcoming season's commencement is just a few days away. This year's edition is keenly awaited as the ardent IPL fans want to see how the two new teams perform and what they bring to the table whereas many are making predictions on which youngster will make a mark, which side will have the last laugh, etc.

Amid all this, Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik joined the bandwagon and made a bold claim regarding which player he feels will be the 'one to watch out for' in IPL 2022, set to get underway on March 26 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

"Definitely David Warner (when being asked about the player to watch out for). And I say that because he's someone who has shown greatness in IPL over a period of time, [he has won] three Orange Caps. Obviously, last year didn't go according to plan but I am sure he'll have a point to prove. He's gone back to a franchise that he's played for before. Interestingly, I've played with him in that franchise, terrific cricketer, and I am pretty sure he'll have a very, very good season," Karthik said in a chat with Cricbuzz.

Many other marquee cricketers such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Quinton de Kock, Jonny Bairstow, etc. will also like to make a mark in the forthcoming season.

On the other hand, DK also predicted who will be the most valuable overseas player in IPL 2022. In this regard, he picked New Zealand's Devon Conway, his RCB captain Faf du Plessis' replacement in the CSK camp, to do wonders for the MS Dhoni-led Yellow Army.

"Devon Conway (overseas MVP). He's a new import, he's going to make his debut for CSK. Terrific player. He's had a brilliant couple of seasons for New Zealand, did very well even in the World Cup under pressure even though he batted in the middle-order which is not something he does [often]. I have a feeling he's a very strong player and will go very very well for CSK," opined Karthik.

After the end of the second and penultimate Test between hosts Pakistan and Australia, the series scoreline remains 0-0. While the series opener was a run-fest in Rawalpindi, the pitch at Karachi also failed to provide a result as the two teams have shifted focus to the series finale, which will get underway at the Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore on March 21.

Ahead of the third and final Test, former Pakistan cricketer Aquib Javed has slammed the Ramiz Raja-led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the pitches it has produced and asked them to take a leaf from the curators in India. In this regard, he said on his Youtube channel, "Why go anywhere else? I would say find out from the curators in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai etc how they prepare the turners on which Indian spinners dominate. I am surprised until now Pakistan has not been able to produce pure turning tracks, which will help our spinners."

Thus, Javed has asked PCB to learn from the Indian curators in preparing turning pitches which would benefit the hosts. In the recently-concluded India-Sri Lanka Test series, in India, Rohit Sharma & Co. whitewashed the Lankans despite not playing on rank-turners but on pitches which did offer adequete help for the spinners and also led to pacers chipping in with regular scalps. Thus, it will be interesting to see what kind of a surface is prepared for the Pakistan-Australia Test series finale.

'Find out from Indian curators...' - Ex-Pak cricketer lashes out at PCB over pitches prepared for AUS Tests

Pakistan and Australia played out a humdinger of a clash in the just-concluded second and penultimate Test at the National Stadium, Karachi on Wednesday (March 16). After Day 4 ended with Pakistan at 192-2, in pursuit of a mammoth 506-run target set by Pat Cummins & Co., Babar Azam stood tall from one end to prevent a memorable win for the visitors with an impressive 196-run knock in Karachi. After Babar fell with over 12 overs remaining in the final day's play, Mohammad Rizwan's 104 not out propelled Pakistan to 443-7 as both sides settled for a draw with the series scoreline still reading 0-0.

Courtesy Babar's lengthy stay in the middle, Pakistan managed to escape from the jaws of a defeat after conceding a big first-innings lead. Babar batted for over 400 deliveries and registered the highest score by a captain in the final innings of a Test match. With a terrific draw, courtesy Babar, Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique (96), Pakistan created history and became only the second team to bat over 1,000 deliveries (1,030) in the fourth and final innings for a draw.

The first instance came during England's timeless Test in Durban, versus South Africa, in 1939. That match went on for as many as 10 days and had to be stopped as the English team would've missed the boat for home. Back then, England were 654/5 in chase of 696 in 218.2 overs (1,746) when the match ended in a draw.

After the match, Babar said at the post-match presentation, "The plan was to bat session-by-session and build partnerships. It was a team effort, as others (Shafique and Rizwan) chipped in with useful contributions too. We took the onus and the main focus was to build partnerships right throughout the day. Rizwan was outstanding as he saved the Test for us eventually. We wanted to continue to bat in the same way (after the tea break) and we tried to be positive and play our shots. The team needed this knock, so I tried to bat for as long as I could."

Meanwhile, Cummins stated, "I think so, I think we had enough overs, it was a pretty good wicket even on day 4 and day 5. We created a few chances, but we failed to grab them. Mitch Swepson was fantastic on debut, his figures don't do justice to the way he bowled. Nathan was impressive towards the end, as he always does on day 5. For an Australian team to bat over two days at the start of a Test match, I don't think we've done that for a long time. Lots of positives from this match and so far in the series. The way we batted was fantastic, the way we hunted and took those wickets on day 3 with reverse swing, that was brilliant as well. And we were always ahead in the game, so really proud of the boys."

Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals' parked team bus allegedly attacked in Mumbai before IPL 2022 opener

Babar Azam-led Pakistan locked horns with Australia in the first Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi on March 04. The match was a run-fest that produced as many as 1,187 runs with only 14 wickets falling overall.

Thus, the historic Test between Pakistan and Australia was a dull affair and ended in a tame draw with no even contest between bat and ball. The pitch for the three-match series opener was, thus, heavily criticised on social media platforms as it wasn't a perfect endorsement for Test cricket. Following the criticism, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja came forward and defended the Rawalpindi pitch.

"A drawn match is never a good advertisement for Test cricket, and I totally understand that we need to get a result in five days these days, and we get it 90% [of the time], but I want to remind you of 2-3 things," Ramiz said in a video message posted on PCB's official Twitter handle.

"It takes 5-6 months to prepare pitches, and during the off-season, you will see - soil is coming from Australia; we've experimented, consulted soil experts and prepared soils, and we will redo 50-60 pitches all over Pakistan once our season ends in March-April. " He further opined, "I understand the fans' frustration and it would have been great if there was a result in this Test match. But do remember that this is a three-Test series and there is a lot of cricket left to be played. We cannot make a fast or bouncy pitch for the heck of it and put the conditions in Australia's lap. It is important that when we play at home, we play according to our strengths."

He has lied, betrayed fans: Kaneria slams PCB chairman Ramiz Raja after his remarks on Rawalpindi pitch

Virat Kohli remains a big name in world cricket. The 33-year-old recently became the 12th Indian cricketer to enter the 100-Test club when Rohit Sharma's Team India locked horns with Sri Lanka in the two-match series opener in Mohali.

Kohli contributed with a well-made 76-ball 45, however, once again missed out on scoring a triple-figure knock. Thus, he also couldn't end his two-year-long century drought at the international level. The wait for Kohli's international century continues as the right-hander has failed to deliver as per his credentails despite crossing the fifty-run mark on several occasions across formats (since his last ton in late 2019).

We want your 71st century in Pakistan: Fan's message for Virat Kohli wins hearts

Australian opener David Warner looked in fine form during the visitors' first innings of the ongoing first Test against Pakistan at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. After Pakistan posted a huge total of 476/4 (declared) in their first innings, Australian openers Warner and Usman Khawaja got their team off to a solid start with a 156-run stand for the first wicket.

Warner enjoyed his duel against Pakistani pacers during his 68-run knock and was seen having some on-field banter with the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah among others. Shah was seen trying to sledge Warne during his knock but the Australian batter laughed off his attempts and gave him a pat on his shoulder.

Shah beat Warner with some short balls and tried to have a go at the Aussie left-hander during the visitors' first innings. However, his aggressive attempts failed to trigger Warner. Shah hit Warner on his arm with one of his deliveries and walked down towards him in order to unsettle the veteran batter.

Pakistan vs Australia Test series: Everything to know about squads, schedule, telecast, streaming details

Australia test captain Pat Cummins and opening batsman David Warner will not feature in the limited-overs meetings with Pakistan next month after they were left out of the squad for a trio of one-day internationals and a Twenty20 clash.

Cummins and Warner, along with bowlers Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon, have been included in the squad for Australia's three-test tour of Pakistan, but will not be involved following the conclusion of that series.

The quartet of Cummins, Warner, Hazlewood and Maxwell have contracts in the cash-rich Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament, which is expected to start at the end of March.

They will, however, only be able to join their respective franchises after Australia play their lone T20 match against Pakistan on April 5, chair of selectors George Bailey confirmed.

While Maxwell has been granted time off for his wedding, the others are expected to return to Australia after the third and final test in Lahore from March 21 to 25.

"We've worked really hard with our multi-format players over a long period, not just this series coming up and leading into the IPL," Bailey said, adding that they have taken a "pragmatic approach".

"One of the things we're keen to ensure is we maintain having our best Australian players playing for Australia for as long as possible in the medium and longer-term.

"We're constantly managing and working with them around their personal situations to get what they need and continue to get what they need."

With the T20 World Cup coming up at home later this year and a 50-over World Cup scheduled next year in India, former Australia captain Bailey had no issues with the IPL.

Quinton de Kock to David Warner: Top 5 steals of IPL 2022 mega auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction went quite well for the Delhi based franchise as they look at a future beyond the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction went quite well for the Delhi based franchise as they look at a future beyond the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan. For Delhi Capitals (DC), Iyer and Dhawan were key players in the past seasons inspiring the team to enter the final in IPL 2020. However, the trophy has eluded the team so far. Aiming to win their maiden trophy, DC have done a massive reshuffling to the existing team as they have added some quality players to build a core team around the retained cricketers. Ahead of the IPL mega auction, the JSW and GMR co-owned franchise had retained Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Nortje. ALSO READ | Mumbai Indians complete squad for IPL 2022: Ishan Kishan, Jofra Archer top buys for Rohit Sharma & Co. During the two-day auction, DC has made some massive buys. One of the highlight purchases was Australian swashbuckling batter David Warner as prodigal son returns to Delhi Capitals. Warner, who won the man of the series award at the T20 World Cup in 2021, was part of the Delhi team when he had started his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils in 2008. He later moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and emerged as an integral part of the team, however, he was last year dropped and was stripped of the captaincy. Another top buy for DC is Australian player Mitchell Marsh, who was also a key player during Australia's 2021 T20 World Cup-winning run. Warner and Marsh were acquired for Rs 6.25 crore and 6.50 crore respectively. Meanwhile, India's Shardul Thakur became the franchise's most expensive buy at the auction for Rs 10.75 crore. DC also acquired the services of the Indian left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav and Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman for Rs 2 crore each. They also bought domestic talents: Ashwin Hebbar (Rs 20 lakh), Sarfaraz Khan (Rs 20 lakh) Kamlesh Nagarkoti (1.10 crore) and KS Bharat (2 crore). In the pace department, DC have Khaleel Ahmed, Chetan Sakariya, Lungi Ngidi. Delhi Capitals have also bought U-19 World Cup-winning skipper Yash Dhull for Rs 50 lakhs. After the mega auction, here's how Delhi Capitals stack up: Retained players: Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Nortje. Players acquired during the auction: Batters: David Warner (Rs 6.25 cr), Ashwin Hebbar (Rs 0.20 cr), Sarfaraz Khan (Rs 0.20 cr), KS Bharat (Rs 2 cr), Mandeep Singh (Rs 1.10 cr), Rovman Powell (Rs 2.80 cr), Tim Seifert (Rs 0.50 cr) All-rounders: Mitchell Marsh (Rs 6.50 cr), Shardul Thakur (Rs 10.75 cr), Kamlesh Nagarkoti (Rs 1.1 cr), Lalit Yadav (Rs 0.65 cr), Ripal Patel (Rs 0.20 cr), Yash Dhull (Rs 0.50 cr), Praveen Dubey (Rs 0.50 cr), Vicky Ostwal (Rs 0.20 cr) Bowlers: Mustafizur Rahman (Rs 2 cr), Kuldeep Yadav (Rs 2 cr), Khaleel Ahmed (Rs 5.25 cr), Chetan Sakariya (Rs 4.2 cr) Delhi Capitals' assistant coach Pravin Amre said that the plan was to get an "explosive batsman" on top. He said, "We got David Warner, who won the man of the series award at the T20 World Cup in 2021." He added, "We are also very happy to get a good all-rounder in Mitch Marsh. Shardul Thakur has been playing for India in all three formats and was part of India's winning team last year in Australia. Hence, as a franchise, we backed him. We are also happy to get good buys Kuldeep and Mustafizur under our budget."

From Shreyas Iyer to Kagiso Rabada: Complete list of 10 marquee players sold at IPL 2022 mega auction

The IPL 2022 mega auction has started with a bang. The first slot featured the marquee players, such as David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult, etc. Rajasthan Royals -- the winners of the inaugural season -- came into the mega auction with INR 620 million and have roped in the likes of R Ashwin (INR 50 million) and Trent Boult (INR 80 million) whereas David Warner has rejoined his first-ever IPL franchise, i.e. Delhi Capitals (DC), for INR 62.5 million.

Warner, who represented the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from 2014-2021, wasn't retained by the Orange Army ahead of the mega auction proceedings in Bengaluru. His fallout with the SRH team management was a big talking point in the previous season and, hence, Delhi made the most of it to re-buy the Aussie left-hander. Warner is the fifth-highest run-getter in IPL history, with 5,449 runs at 41.59 along with a strike-rate of 139.96. He had earlier represented the Delhi camp -- when they were known as the Delhi Daredevils (DD) -- from 2009 to 2013.

Ashwin, on the other hand, has found a new base. Starting from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to captaining the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and moving to the DC camp, Ashwin will now represent the RR camp. Meanwhile, Boult -- who played a key role in Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians' (MI) title-win in 2020 season -- has also joined Ashwin in the RR setup.

Both Ashwin and Boult will look to assist the young RR captain Sanju Samson in the IPL 2022 edition, to be held in India in March-May. Ashwin has 145 scalps whereas the New Zealander has accounted for 76 wickets in 62 IPL games.

Rajasthan Royals shared some of the most hilarious requests and suggestions they have received from their fans ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. The franchise termed the post 'honest auction requests' which had screenshots of messages from fans requesting the team to buy their favourite players.

A fan came up with a unique suggestion as he asked the Royals to go for Australian opener David Warner at the mega auction, not for his cricketing skills and credentials but his entertaining reels on Instagram. Warner is quite popular among Indian fans for his reels on Indian movies and songs. "Warner ko please lena, reels mast banata hai (Please take Warner, he makes good reels)," the fan had messaged the Royals.

"Mujhe le lo bhai mein sirf 15% equity lunga (Take me brother, I will take only 15% equity in return)," wrote another. Another fan came up with an even funnier request as he warned that franchise that he will unfollow them on social media if they didn't buy Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh at the mega auction this year.

"Admin tereko unfollow kardunga agar Mitchell Marsh ko nahi liya (I will unfollow you admin if you don't buy Mitchell Marsh)," the fan wrote. Fans were left in splits on Twitter as Royals shared the screenshots of the hilarious requests and suggestions.

Rajasthan Royals have retained 3 players

Ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, the existing eight teams in the league were given the opportunity of retaining a maximum of four players each. While most teams went for four retentions, Rajasthan Royals retained only three players ahead of the auction.

Rajasthan Royals retained captain Sanju Samson as their first-choice player for a sum of Rs 14 crore (INR 140 million), England wicket-keeper batter Jos Buttler for Rs 10 crore (INR 100 million) and uncapped batter Yashasvi Jaiswal for Rs 4 crore (INR 40 million).

Rajasthan Royals had to let go for all-rounder Ben Stokes and pacer Jofra Archer, who were both in doubt to take part in the new season. While Stokes has pulled out of IPL 2022, Archer has enlisted his name for the mega auction but will not play in IPL 2022. He will return to action from the 2023 season due to his ongoing recovery from an injury.
