A lot has been said and written about KL Rahul in recent times. Rahul returned to international cricket in mid-August, his first-ever appearance at the highest level since February early this year, and looked ordinary with the bat in the Zimbabwe ODIs and Asia Cup 2022 edition.

While he scored a 41-ball 62 versus Afghanistan in India's inconsequential tie in the Super Four round of the Asia Cup, Rahul's strike rate has remained a hot topic of discission. He tends to take some time before accelerating while playing both for India and his IPL franchise. However, he came to his own in India's three-match T20I series opener versus Australia, in Mohali, on Tuesday evening (September 20).

Being asked to bat first, India lost captain Rohit Sharma (11) and Virat Kohli (2) for cheap before Rahul stitched a handy 68-run third-wicket stand with Suryakumar Yadav (46) and slammed a stylish 45-ball 55, laced with 4 fours and 3 sixes at 157.14. By virtue of this knock, Rahul became the third-quickest to reach 2,000 runs in the format (third Indian overall).

Rahul now has 2,018 runs (counting his latest knock versus the Aussies). He is among the 18 batsmen to be a part of the elusive 2k-run-club in the format. Rohit (3,631), Virat (3,586) and Martin Guptill (3,497) are the leading run-getters in men's T20Is.

Ahead of the series opener versus Aaron Finch & Co., vice-captain Rahul had spoken about his strike rate issues while addressing the media on Monday (September 19). "Look, obviously something that every player wants to work on. No one is perfect, everybody is working towards something, obviously strike rates are taken on an overall basis. You never see when a batter has played at a certain strike rate, whether it was important to play for him to play at a 200 strike rate or whether the team could still have won with him playing at 120-130. These are the things that no one analyses," KL Rahul told the reporters.

"Yes, it is something that I am working at, the roles that have been defined for each player in the last 10-12 months have been very clear, and everyone is working towards it. And, I am just working towards how I can better myself as an opening batter and how I can have an impact on my team whenever I go out to bat," he added.

KL Rahul becomes third-fastest to 2,000 T20I runs during blistering knock vs Australia in Mohali

Aaron Finch announced his ODI retirement during Australia's home series versus New Zealand. The series finale became his last-ever appearance in the 50-over format, ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Ahead of Australia's three-match T20I series opener versus hosts India, former Aussie skipper and two-time ODI World Cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting has named his choice as Finch's successor in the shorter format.

Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, David Warner are among the contenders with the likes of Alex Carey, Glenn Maxwell, etc. also having a lot of experience under their belt to take up the role. "I think it’ll be Pat Cummins, to be honest," Ponting told host Sanjana Ganesan on The ICC Review. "I know he doesn’t play all the ODIs for obvious reasons, because his workload in Test cricket has been, like all the fast bowlers, very high in the last few years. I know they are very conscious of making sure that they’ve got Cummins, (Josh) Hazlewood and (Mitchell) Starc 100 percent fit and healthy for the big Test series to come around. But look, I'd be surprised if it wasn’t Pat Cummins," he opined.

On Smith's chances and Warner's name being discussed despite what happened in the Cape Town Test in early 2018 (with them being involved in the sandpaper gate fiasco), Ponting stated, "I’m just basing this on what’s happened with Steve Smith he is now the Test vice-captain again, having been the captain and really at the center of the whole controversy in Cape Town. He is now the Test vice-captain, which means obviously that if Pat Cummins ever misses a Test, then Steve Smith is going to be the captain of Australia again in Test match cricket."

"So, if that’s the case, and all being even and reasonably fair, then I think it would be OK, as far as I’m concerned, for David Warner to have his name (in the ring). Not saying that they have to make him captain, but he should be able to be in the conversation," the Delhi Capitals' head coach asserted.

The 47-year-old Punter also opened up on Finch's decision and said, "I wasn’t surprised actually. I sort of personally felt that he was probably one game away or one failure away from getting dropped anyway. That’s how bad his last 12 months have been in one-day international cricket. I think it was the right time. I actually thought it was really noble, what he said as well, that stepping down when he did, it gives the next captain a reasonable time leading getting himself and his team ready for the next World Cup.

"I was afforded a similar thing as well when I took over the captaincy, and when I stood down and Michael Clarke took over, I was very aware of what was coming up. I wanted to give the next captain a very good run into the next big tournament that they played," he signed off.

Pat Cummins or David Warner? Ricky Ponting names Aaron Finch's successor as Australia's ODI captain

Star Australia batter David Warner said that he still regards captaincy roles as a privilege and is ready to talk to Cricket Australia (CA) about ending his lifetime leadership ban imposed on him for his part in the ball-tampering incident. After Australia skipper Aaron Finch announced his retirement from the ODI format on Sunday, who will captain the ODI team in the future is the burning question on everyone`s mind. Sandpaper Gate happened during the 2018 Cape Town Test between Australia and South Africa. On the third day of the match, Cameron Bancroft was caught on camera trying to alter the condition of the ball.

After the conclusion of the third day, Bancroft and then Australian skipper Steve Smith admitted that they cheated in trying to tamper with the ball. Warner`s involvement in the act was also confirmed. Cricket Australia handed a one-year ban to both Smith and Warner, while Bancroft was given a nine-month suspension."The man next to me is the key, he`s the Test captain. I`m sure he gets the first opportunity," Sydney Morning Herald quoted Warner as saying. "My phone`s here [if CA want to call for a talk about leadership]. What`s done is done in the past. The good thing is there is a new board that has come along. I`m always happy to sit down and have a chat and talk about anything they need to talk about. I`m just happy, enjoying my cricket and putting my best foot forward for the team," said Warner. "Any opportunity you get asked captain, it`s a privilege. For my circumstances, that`s in Cricket Australia`s hands. I can only concentrate on what I have to do and that`s using the bat and trying to score as many runs as I can," he added. My phone's here: Aussie star David Warner keen on ODI captaincy talks with Cricket Australia

Australia's T20I captain Aaron Finch surprisingly announced his retirement from ODIs last week confirming that the third ODI against New Zealand on Sunday was his last game in the fifty-over format. While he has brought down the curtains on his ODI career, Finch will continue to lead Australia in T20Is.

Finch captained Australia in a total of 54 ODI matches out of the 145 games he played in his ODI career. His retirement came after the right-hander's poor run with the willow which saw many question his credentials as captain. However, Finch himself decided to step down leaving Australia in search of a new captain ahead of the ODI World Cup next year.

While Test captain Pat Cummins remains one of the favourites to take over the reins in ODIs as well, Finch himself has backed his opening partner David Warner to lead Australia in the fifty-over format. However, Cricket Australia (CA) are in a tricky spot as far as Warner is concerned as the veteran batter has a lifetime ban on him from taking any leadership roles in the team.

Warner was banned for a lifetime from taking any leadership roles for Australia after his role in the infamous ball-tampering scandal in South Africa in 2018. He was punished alongside the likes of former captain Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft by CA for their involvement in the scandal.

While his ban is yet to be lifted, Finch believes Warner should be given the opportunity to lead Australia as he is an unbelievable tactical captain. Finch said he loved playing under Warner while urging CA to overturn his leadership ban.

"I think CA (Cricket Australia) I think are revisiting what that looks like. He’s someone I’ve played under a few times for Australia when he’s had the opportunity to captain, and he’s been fantastic. He’s an unbelievable tactical captain and someone who at the time the guys loved playing under," Finch said on Triple M radio.

"I’m not 100 percent sure of what CA’s position is on it. But would I like to see it overturned? (Yes) he’s someone who, you do your time and he’s well and truly done that I think," he added.

'He’s an unbelievable tactical captain': Aaron Finch names Aussie star who should replace him as ODI skipper

David Warner on Sunday called upon Cricket Australia to "open their doors" and discuss overturning his lifetime leadership ban, saying he is looking forward to having an "honest conversation" with the board.

In the aftermath of the 2018 ball-tampering scandal in South Africa, former skipper Steve Smith was stripped of the captaincy and banned from leading Australia for two years, while Warner was handed a more severe punishment -- a lifelong leadership ban.

However, several former and current players, including Test skipper Pat Cummins, have called for Warner's life ban to end.

"That hasn't really been brought to the table," Warner was quoted saying by ESPNCricinfo.

"As I've said plenty of times off the record, it's upon the board to reach out to me and open their doors. Then I can sit down and have an honest conversation with them," he added.

David Warner open to have discussions with Cricket Australia to get lifetime captaincy ban overturned

Cricket Australia is seemingly on a crusade to attract big-name players to participate in their domestic Big Bash League. However, they haven't enjoyed a lot of success as Steve Smith became one of the latest players to snub an offer to play in the league on home soil. The 33-year-old has expressed reluctance in joining the ranks of the Sydney Sixers.

Smith's manager, Warren Craig recently released a statement, addressing his client's reluctance to sign with the league. “At the moment, he has decided not to commit. There is a lot of cricket coming up,” Craig told domestic media outlets on Thursday.

This comes shortly after David Warner offered the BBL some much-needed box-office appeal after expressing interest in joining the Sixers' cross-town rivals, Sydney Thunder. Warner finds himself at the receiving end of the same lucrative contract that helped Cricket Australia retain the likes of Shane Warne, Shane Watson and more on domestic shores, playing in the BBL during its initial phase.

Reports suggest that Warner will be walking away with a contract that is worth at least $340,000, which is the same contract that has been offered to some of the brightest off-shore talents, who are slated to join the league. Although a majority of Warner's salary will be paid by Thunder, a fraction of the amount will also by paid by Cricket Australia.

Cricket Australia is currently on the clock as there is mounting pressure from the freshly minted Indian-backed T20 leagues in South Africa and the UAE, as their schedules are set to clash with the BBL in January. The governing body has seemingly moved to invest $8 million in the league to attract overseas players. However, considering the ticking clock, the CA may be in for a hard time.

The reigning champions have got home conditions and that was one thing that made Australia's win in the last World Cup, not remarkable, but that little bit sweeter for them," Ponting said on ICC Review.

Sri Lanka and Australia are involved in a closely-fought five-match ODI series. After the Dasun Shanaka-led Islanders lost the opening two T20Is at home, they were expected to be whitewashed. However, the one-time winners pulled off a miraculous chase in the third and final match, courtesy of the skipper's late blitz, to avoid a 3-0 scoreline and lose the series with some respite.

From thereon, the Sri Lankan cricket team has fought hard versus the five-time ODI World champions Australia. Aaron Finch & Co. won the series opener, by two wickets (DLS method), but the Islanders came back strongly to win the second and third game. Thus, with a 2-1 lead, Shanaka & Co. have a chance to take an unassailable lead in the five ODIs versus Aaron Finch-led brigade.

The fourth and penultimate match will be held on Tuesday evening as it is expected to go down to the wire. Will Aussies bounce back or the eighth-ranked hosts will topple the Men in Yellow and take a 3-1 lead?

SL vs Aus: When and where to watch Sri Lanka vs Australia 4th ODI - IST time and streaming details

On Wednesday (June 08), Pakistan captain Babar Azam continued to be among runs as the Men in Green locked horns with Nicholas Pooran's West Indies in the series opener of the three ODIs, in Multan. Chasing 306, Babar-led hosts went past the finish line courtesy of their captain who scripted a brilliant record with his century against the Windies.

Scoring his 17th ton in the shortest format, Babar scripted history as he became the first batter to score three consecutive hundreds on two separate occasions in ODIs. For the unversed, his earlier three consectuive centuries had come against West Indies in 2016, when he made 120, 123, and 117.

In addition, the 27-year-old Babar surpassed the long-standing record of Virat Kohli, former Indian skipper, to become the quickest to score 1,000 runs as an ODI captain. He got to the milestone in his 13th innings; four innings less than Kohli (who achieved the same in 17 outings).

Talking about the first ODI, Pooran-led Windies opted to bat first and rode on Shai Hope's 127, along with fifty from Shamarh Brooks (70) and vital knocks from Romario Shepherd and Rovman Powell, to post 305-8 as Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi claimed four and two scalps, respectively. In reply, Pakistan chased down the total with five wickets, and four balls, to spare. Apart from Babar, Md Rizwan scored a fifty whereas Khushdil Shah's entertaining 23-ball 41* ensured no further hiccups for the hosts in the final few overs.

At the post-match presentation, Babar said, "I always try to continue my game and work on my strengths. There was a little bit of a problem during the calling when I was batting with Imam. But it got better as the partnership moved on. The wicket was a little double-paced and wasn't that easy. There was heat but that is not an excuse. Credit to the bowlers. Shadab came back and did well. The standards he sets on the field is brilliant as well. Cricket is changing. We have to plan and play with a lot of intensity. Outstanding finish from Khushdil. You have to take it deep so that there is less pressure on the finishers."

Australia got their first breakthrough in the fifth over when Gunathilaka was caught by Mitchell Marsh on Hazlewood`s delivery and departed after scoring 26 runs off 15 balls. Charith Asalanka came to the crease and provided the momentum to Sri Lanka. Along with Nissanka, Asalanka took Sri Lanka across the 100-run mark in 12 overs and kept the scoreboard moving. 1st T20I: Josh Hazlewood's 4-fer, Finch & Warner's fifties help Australia thrash Sri Lanka by 10 wickets

Australia commenced their tour of Sri Lanka on Tuesday (June 07) as the Aaron Finch-led visitors locked horns with Dasun Shanaka's Islanders in the series opener of the three T20Is. In what was a one-sided affair, the World T20 champions Australia romped past the hapless Sri Lankans and will now look for an unassailable 2-0 lead in the second and penultimate match on Wednesday (June 08).

Talking about the series opener, nothing clicked for the home side. After losing the toss, Sri Lanka were asked to bat first and were 100 for 1 at one stage before Josh Hazlewood's 4 for 16 and Mitchell Star's 3 for 26 dented the Islanders' progress. They were soon reduced to 103-5 and were bundled out for a paltry 128 in 19.3 overs with only some fight by their top three, Pathum Nissanka (36), Danushka Gunathilaka (26) and Charith Asalanka (38).

In reply, the Aussies didn't break a sweat in the run-chase as unbeaten fifties from openers David Warner (44-ball 70*) and captain Finch (40-ball 61) took their side to an easy win. Will the script remain the same in the penultimate T20I as well?

Buttler ended the season with 863 runs in 17 matches and that is currently the second when it comes to number of runs scored by any batter in one IPL season – second only to Virat Kohli (973 runs in 2016). Warner went down to the third position with 848 runs in 17 matches (also in 2016).

Earlier, RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bat in the crucial encounter. RR are looking for their second title since winning the competition back in 2008 while this is the debut season for GT.

IPL 2022 final: Jos Buttler surpasses David Warner, moves up to second in elite list

Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be aiming to lift their second Indian Premier League (IPL) title when they take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final of the ongoing 15th edition of the tournament at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 29). Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008 and have since not managed to lift the elusive trophy. This will be RR's first final since 2008 as they look to pay a perfect tribute to their former captain Shane Warne by winning the trophy for him.

Opening batter Jos Buttler has been instrumental so far in RR's consistent run this season as he has been churning out runs one game after another. Buttler slammed a magnificent unbeaten century as he powered the Royals to a seven-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second qualifier to help them book a spot in the final against Gujarat Titans.

Buttler has had a phenomenal season with the willow so far and stands on the verge of breaking David Warner's elite IPL record. Buttler needs just 25 runs to overtake Warner on the list of batters with most runs in a single season. He currently has 824 runs in 16 matches this season at an impressive average of 58.86 and a strike rate of over 151.

If Buttler goes past Warner (848 runs) in the final on Sunday, he will break the record for most runs by an overseas batter in a single season of IPL. Overall, Virat Kohli tops the charts with a staggering 973 runs in IPL 2016. Buttler needs 150 runs in the final to go past Kohli's tally of 973 runs and set an all-time record in the IPL.

The English opener has been magnificent for the Royals right from the start of the season and has already smashed four centuries in the tournament so far. He will be looking to fire once again when Rajasthan Royals take on Gujarat Titans for one last dance at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

Rajasthan Royals have so far lost in all three meetings against Gujarat Titans this season and will be hoping to bring an end to the losing streak on Sunday to lift their second IPL trophy. A lot will ride on Buttler's shoulders if RR are to topple Hardik Pandya & Co. in the summit clash.

IPL 2022: Jos Buttler on the verge of breaking David Warner's elite record in final against Gujarat Titans

David Warner fell prey to his own last-minute decision to change strike as Delhi Capitals (DC) locked horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Monday. Warner opened the innings with Sarfaraz Khan and was not looking to face the first ball as he headed to the non-striker's end at the start of the first over.

However, the Aussie star decided to change the strike at the last minute after it was confirmed that part-time spinner Liam Livingstone will bowl the first over for PBKS. Warner had a change of mind and was seen walking towards the striker's end to face the first ball from Livingstone.

However, little did the DC opener know that the decision might backfire for him. He ended up giving away an easy catch to Rahul Chahar at the backward point on the very first ball he faced from Livingstone to bag a golden duck as DC got off to a poor start in the game.

Sarfaraz combined with all-rounder Mitchell Marsh to steady the ship for DC after Warner's early departure. Sarfaraz slammed a quickfire 32 off 16 balls while Marsh continued his great form with the bat as the duo added 51 runs for the second wicket. Marsh then shared another crucial stand of 47 runs for the third wicket with Lalit Yadav (24).

Marsh, who scored a match-winning half-century in DC's last outing against Rajasthan Royals has been fabulous once again against Punjab Kings. Delhi Capitals will be hoping to post a big total on the board at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai to ensure they can bag their second win in a row.

DC have their fate in their own hands when it comes to the playoffs race this season. If they manage to win their remaining two matches in a row, Delhi Capitals have a healthy chance of qualifying for the playoffs this season. They are currently at the 5th spot on the points table with 12 points from as many games.

Match 64 of the IPL 2022 edition will be held between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Monday evening (May 16). The clash holds utmost significance in the league stage with regard to the remaining three playoffs spot.

Both Delhi and Punjab are tied at 12 points. With Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) very much certain to take the second or third spot and join Gujarat Titans (GT) in the playoffs, the fourth spot remains wide open. While Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have 14 points and are also close to confirming a berth, DC and PBKS are far from being out of the race. If the winner of Delhi-Punjab goes on to win their remaining game as well, they can move past RCB to take the fourth spot.

Talking about the last face-off between both teams, it saw a spirited show from Rishabh Pant & Co. They faced each other in match 32 whereas Kuldeep Yadav-Axar Patel's two scalps each rocked Punjab as they were bundled out for a paltry 115 after being asked to bat first. In reply, Prithvi Shaw and David Warmer (60 not out) propelled Delhi to a massive nine-wicket win.

PBKS vs DC, IPL 2022 today match prediction: Who will win Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals clash?

Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) went past the one-time winners and third-ranked Rajasthan Royals (RR) by eight wickets in match 58 of IPL 2022 edition, on Wednesday (May 11), at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai.

In a bid to keep their playoff hopes alive, Delhi produced an all-round performance to restrict Sanju Samson & Co. for 160-6 and later chased it down by eight wickets and 11 balls to spare, riding on Mitchell Marsh's 2/25 and 89 (62). While Marsh produced a memorable show, DC opener David Warner -- who has been in rollicking form in IPL 15 -- once again contributed with another fifty this season (5th) to remain unbeaten on 52 (41) after stitching a match-winning 144-run second-wicket stand with his Aussie teammate.

By virtue of his knock, Warner breached the 400-run mark for the 8th time in his IPL career. Thus, he is now only the third batter after Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan to have in excess of 400 runs in a season on as many as eight occasions. The list is topped by Suresh Raina, with over 400 runs in nine seasons. David Warner surpasses 400-run mark in IPL 2022, joins Virat Kohli & Shikhar Dhawan in an elite list

Riding on Mitchell Marsh's all-round heroics, Delhi Capitals got their act together in the nick of time to upstage Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets and keep their IPL playoffs hopes alive here on Wednesday.

After their bowlers restricted RR to 160 for six, Marsh's 62-ball 89 and David Warner's unbeaten 52 off 41 balls helped the Capitals complete the task with 11 balls to spare for their sixth win of the season that saw the team suffer setbacks both on and off the field, including multiple COVID-19 cases in its camp.

With the ball, Marsh had picked up the two important wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal (19) and Ravichandran Ashwin (50). Then, he smashed seven sixes and five fours to emerge as the night's hero.

DC lost Srikar Bharat in only the second ball of their innings to Trent Boult, who conceded just one run in the first over. That was followed by a maiden over by Prasidh Krishna and then the Kiwi speedster bowled another economical over as DC struggled to force the pace early on, reaching five for one in three overs.

The introduction of Ashwin saw Marsh launching the off-spinner over long-off for a six. Marsh did the same to Prasidh, hitting him for a maximum over fine-leg to give the much-needed impetus to the DC innings.

There was more to come from the willow of Marsh as he smashed Kuldeep Sen for two sixes and a similar treatment was given to Ashwin as the ball, despite Jos Buttler's effort in the deep, sailed over long-on for a maximum, bringing up the Australian all-rounder's fifty.

By the time the 143-run stand was broken by Yuzvendra Chahal with the wicket of Marsh, the match was almost in DC's bag. Earlier, striking at better than most of the top batters, premier off-spinner Ashwin recorded his first half-century in T20 cricket. Ashwin made a 38-ball 50, while Devdutt Padikkal struck 48 in 30 deliveries after RR were asked to bat first.

The Capitals were off to fine start as left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya (2/23), playing the must-win game in place of Khaleel Ahmed, dismissed RR's top batter Jos Buttler (7) cheaply in the third over. Looking to play it over the infield, Buttler hit a fairly full-length delivery straight to Shardul Thakur.

With Buttler gone early, DC were on top and looked to assert their dominance at the DY Patel Sports Complex. They gave very little away and kept RR to 43 for one in the six power play overs. This was after DC skipper Rishabh Pant decided against a review despite a strong appeal by Sakariya for a caught behind in the first over. Replays confirmed that Pant was right in not opting for a review.

Coming off his blazing half-century in the previous game, Yashasvi Jaiswal produced a lovely on-drive off Anrich Nortje (2/39) and then smashed the South African pacer for a six over third man. Jaiswal (19) impressed again, but not for long as Mitchell Marsh (2/25) cramped him up for room with a bouncer, paving the way for the left-handed Devdutt Padikkal to join Ashwin in the middle.

Looking confident after having hitting a few boundaries, including two maximums and a ramp shot over keeper Pant, Ashwin went along nicely and brought up his half-century in 38 balls. However, the premier off-spinner got out soon after reaching the landmark with Marsh coming back into the attack to give DC the breakthrough.

Meanwhile, Padikkal smashed Axar Patel for two sixes -- one over deep backyard point and another over long-on -- as RR looked to force the pace. Padikkal then scored two successive fours off Marsh, even as Nortje had RR skipper Sanju Samson (6) caught by Shardul Thakur at mid-wicket.

As the DC players rejoiced, Kuldeep Yadav was seen walking off the ground holding his left shoulder, having hurt himself while going for a catch in the previous over.

Riyan Parag hit Nortje for a massive six before Sakariya cut short his brief stay in the middle, and Padikkal too followed suit, thanks to brilliant catch running by substitute fielder Kamlesh Nagarkoti.

From superstar Virat Kohli to finisher Dinesh Karthik: Top ten run-getters in IPL

David Warner has been one of the best batters in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the years and continues to prove his mettle with each passing season. The Australian star is currently plying his trade for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and has enjoyed a fabulous run with the willow.

Warner is currently regarded as one of the greats in the IPL, however, he didn't have the most perfect start in the league. Warner was picked up by Delhi Capitals in the 2009 season when he made his debut in the IPL. However, he managed only seven appearances for the team in his first season and failed to impress.

Former DC skipper Virender Sehwag, who captained the side during Warner's initial years in IPL, recently revealed some shocking details from his debut stint in the T20 league. Sehwag claimed Warner had poor work ethics and partied more than he practiced during his first season with DC.

He also revealed how the Aussie star picked up fights with some of his teammates during the season and had to be dropped from the team. Though he was a good player, Sehwag said they needed to teach Warner a lesson considering his behaviour.

"I too have vented out my frustrations on a couple of players and David Warner was one of them. Because when he had joined newly, he partied more than believing in practice or playing matches. In the first year, he had a fight with a few players so we sent him back for the last two matches. So sometimes it happens that you keep someone out to teach them a lesson," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

“He was new so it was important to show him that you alone are not important for the team, others are too. There are other players who can play and win the match for the team too. And that's what happened. We kept him out of the team and won as well," he added.

David Warner partied more than he practiced: Virender Sehwag recalls Aussie star's debut IPL season

David Warner and Rovman Powell played sensational knocks to help Delhi Capitals (DC) thrash Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 21 runs in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Thursday (May 05). Warner slammed an unbeaten 92 off just 58 balls while Powell played a quickfire knock of 35-ball 67 to help DC post a strong total of 207 runs on the board and register a comfortable win.

Asked to bat first at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, DC got off to a poor start as they lost opener Mandeep Singh on a duck before Mitchell Marsh was also sent packing cheaply on just 10 off 7 balls. However, Warner continued his terrific run with the willow on one end and combined with skipper Rishabh Pant (26) to add 48 runs for the third wicket.

After Pant's departure, Powell joined Warner in the middle and the duo took the SRH bowlers to the cleaners. In a clinical display of power-hitting, the duo went all guns blazing to help DC cross the 200-run mark. Warner was just 8 runs away from completing his century before the start of the 20th over during DC's innings.

However, Powell was on the strike at the start of the over. The West Indies all-rounder revealed he had asked Warner if he wanted him to take a single and give the Aussie star the strike to complete his hundred. Warner denied taking a single and urged Powell to go all out in the final over.

“At the start of the over, I asked, ‘do you want a single to try and get a hundred?’ He said, ‘Listen, that is not how the cricket is played. You should try to smack as far as you can,’ and I did that,” Powell told Star Sports after the game.

Warner could have easily taken the strike and tried to complete his century off the next five balls. However, he let Powell keep the strike. The West Indies all-rounder didn't disappoint and took 19 runs off the 20th over which was bowled by Umran Malik.

Khaleel Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi Capitals as he picked up a three-wicket haul while Shardul Thakur bagged two wickets to help their team defend the total of 207 runs and bag their fifth win of the season. Delhi Capitals are currently placed fifth on the points table with five wins and as many losses in ten games.

DC vs SRH: David Warner's 92* takes him to an elite list, overtakes Chris Gayle to have most T20 fifties

Match 50 of IPL 2022 edition saw the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) lock horns with the Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Both sides were coming into this fixture on the back of a defeat each. However, DC emerged on top as SRH succumbed to their third straight defeat as the playoffs race heats up.

Opting to bowl first, SRH removed Mandeep Singh -- playing for an injured Prithvi Shaw -- and Mitchell Marsh in no time as Bhuvneshwar Kumar applied pressure with his tight bowling. Opener David Warner (92*), playing his first game versus SRH since being released by the Orange Army last year, led the charge. He initially stitched a handy partnership with skipper Rishabh Pant (26) before Rovman Powell (67 not out) joined him and the duo tormented the SRH bowlers in the death overs. As a result, DC posted a mammoth 207-3 in 20 overs.

The cricketing action will continue as IPL 2022 edition's match 50 will see the one-time winners Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) lock horns with the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) on Thursday evening (May 05), at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.

With each passing day, the playoffs race is heating up. Both SRH and DC are in contention for the playoffs. Nonetheless, they cannot afford to let loose as the bottom-lying teams have started to cause a few upsets. Talking about the SRH camp, they have won five encounters out of nine. On the other hand, the Delhi franchise have had a topsy-turvy ride from the beginning of the season and have four victories from an equal number of games. Thus, two points separate both teams at present.

Both sides are also coming into this fixture on the back of a defeat each. While Delhi's concerns have been their batting depth and too much dependence on Kuldeep Yadav and Khaleel Ahmed. Overall, they also need more consistency from their big guns such as Rishabh, Mitchell Marsh, Shardul Thakur, Mustafizur Rahman. SRH will also want more from their batters, as they have also been more reliant on Abhishek Sharma whereas skipper Kane has only one fifty this season. Rahul Tripathy, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran will be desperate to remain consistent as the tournament is in a very crunch phase.

Match prediction for DC vs SRH clash: This game will be played at the Brabourne, where spinners have had some say and run-scoring hasn't been an issue. Expect a 170-plus contest with SRH bowlers to emerge on top of an inconsistent DC line-up?

DC vs SRH, IPL 2022 prediction today: Who will win Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match?

IPL 2022 has been a huge hit. Almost every game has gone down to the wire. With each passing day, the race for the playoffs is intensifying as all teams, sans Mumbai Indians (MI), are very much in contention for the last four spots. Amid this, Delhi Capitals (DC) take on a struggling Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 41 of the ongoing 15th season on Thursday evening (April 28).

Both teams have not had a great run in IPL 2022. Talking about the Rishabh Pant-led DC unit, they have been plagued with injuries, players' unavailabilities, Covid cases, and were hit by a no-ball controversy in their last encounter, versus Rajasthan Royals (RR). They are languishing at the seventh spot with three wins from seven games.

On the other hand, things haven't been smooth for the KKR franchise ever since they faced DC earlier this season. Prior to the DC clash, they had three wins from four games and have now lost four on the trot. Their bowling is an issue and many key players need to rise up and perform consistently (such as skipper Shreyas Iyer, Pat Cummins, Venkatesh Iyer, Aaron Finch, etc.).

Talking about the last time both sides faced each other, DC rode on openers David Warner and Prithvi Shaw's respective half-centuries to post 215-5. In reply, KKR were all-out for 171, losing by 44 runs. Kuldeep Yadav and Khaleel Ahmed did the job for Delhi with the ball in hand.

Match prediction for DC vs KKR clash: Given that both sides are in the bottom half, they will come hard against each other. Playing at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai has been a tricky affair for sides. Earlier, teams batting second were winning easily before chasing became difficult (although Gujarat Titans pulled off a hiest versus Sunrisers Hyderabad yesterday). DC will be hoping for Mitchell Marsh and Anrich Nortje's return. With their bowling being better than KKR at present, they have an edge. Above all, toss will remain crucial at the Wankhede.

DC vs KKR, IPL 2022 today match prediction: Who will win Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders clash?

Australian cricket team opener David Warner has been enjoying a fine run of form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and he was once again the top scorer for his side as Delhi Capitals registered a comfortable victory over struggling Punjab Kings in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Chasing a modest total of 116 thanks to a disciplined performance from the DC bowlers, Warner slammed 60 off just 30 balls with the help of ten boundaries and one six to guide them to victory.

Thanks to his quickfire half century, Warner completed 1000 runs against Punjab Kings (previously Kings XI Punjab) in the IPL. The Australia international became only the second cricketer to score 1000 runs against one IPL team after Rohit Sharma (against Kolkata Knight Riders).

This was the 12th half century for Warner against the Punjab franchise and when it comes to runs scored against PBKS, Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina are distant No 2 and No 3s in the list.

Warner was all praise for the DC bowlers in the post-match press conference as four of them took two wickets each to bundle out PBKS for their lowest total in the competition this year.

IPL 2022: David Warner becomes second cricketer after Rohit Sharma to achieve elusive milestone

There were a lot of speculations regarding the fate of the Delhi Capitals (DC) face-off with Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Wednesday evening (April 20) after the outbreak of Covid-19 cases in the Delhi camp.

With another foreign player in Tim Seifert testing positive for Covid-19, after Mitchell Marsh, the match went ahead as planned. The Rishabh Pant-led Delhi franchise stepped onto the field battling a lot of stress, confusion and not a perfect prepration in the build-up to the game. However, the one-time runners-up didn't put a foot wrong to thrash Mayank Agarwal-led Punjab by nine wickets at the Brabourne Stadium Mumbai to claim match 32 convincingly in IPL 2022.

At the post-match presentation, a jubilant Pant said, "Obviously there was confusion in our camp because in the morning we got to know that Tim (Seifert) is also positive. There was some confusion, nervousness and what are we going to do now kinda feeling, but we spoke in the team meeting and pointed out on what we can focus, there was so much noise from the outside that we thought we will focus on the match. Mostly I like to leave them (Shaw and Warner) lone as everyone knows their roles in the team. We will look to improve in every match and that's the only thing we can control, results are not in our control but we can learn from our mistakes. On a wicket like this I thought the ball was stopping a bit and that's why I used more of the spinners."
