Manchester United suffered a humiliating 6-3 defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Manchester City in the first Manchester Derby in the Premier League on Sunday. United were completely demolished by Pep Guardiola's side as Erling Haaland and Phil Foden bagged a hat-trick apiece to extend their unbeaten streak in the Premier League this season.

It was a nightmarish start for United as Foden opened the scoring for City in the 8th minute before Haaland scored twice inside four minutes to make it 3-0. Foden piled more misery on their city rivals with another goal in the 44th minute to ensure the reigning Premier League champions had the game in their bag by halftime.

In the second half, Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag went on to make a number of chances as the likes of Fred, Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw all came on from the bench. However, Cristiano Ronaldo remained an unused substitute on the bench for United despite them going 4-0 down at the end of the first half.

When asked about his decision to not bring Ronaldo as a substitute in the second half, Ten Hag said it was 'out of respect' for the Portuguese forward's big career. Ten Hag admitted he didn't want Ronaldo to be subjected to humiliation at the hands of City.

"I wouldn't bring him in out of respect for Cristiano, for his big career," Ten Hag said after the game.

"The other thing was the advantage that I could bring on Anthony Martial. He needs the minutes, but I don't want to point it out like that," he added.

Ronaldo, who wanted to leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window earlier this year, had to remain at the club as no top team came in for him. He has had a sluggish start to the season and has managed only one start for United in the Premier League so far this season.

United did manage to score three goals in the second half but it wasn't enough as City scored two more to make 6-3. Ten Hag said his side lacked belief in the game and the performance was unacceptable. The Man Utd manager insisted he couldn't think of any positives to take from the game.

"It's quite simple, it's a lack of belief. When you don't believe on the pitch, then you can't win games; that is unacceptable. We get undisciplined at following rules and you get hammered, that's happened today," said Ten Hag.

"All the credit to City, but it's nothing to do with City, our performance was not good. It had to do with the belief as individuals and as a team.

"From the first minute I felt it, and at half-time, we changed things and we changed attitude. In this moment I can't think about positives. We let our fans down, we let ourselves down and we're hugely disappointed," he added.

'Out of respect': Erik Ten Hag's shocking admission on why he didn't play Cristiano Ronaldo against Man City

Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo had expressed his desire to leave the Premier League giants this summer and was exploring his options as he reportedly wanted to join a club competing in the Champions League. However, a move away from Old Trafford didn't materialise for the Portuguese forward, who has struggled to start gamed for United under new manager Erik Ten Hag in the ongoing season.

The 37-year-old, who is regarded as one of the greatest of all time, was linked with a move to a number of top European clubs, including the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid among others. However, no top club showed interest in roping in the Manchester United star, who is in the final lap of his career.

Ronaldo was also linked with a shock move to Saudi club Al-Hilal, who reportedly made a stunning offer to the Portuguese legend. As per reports, the Saudi club were ready to pay United a £25m transfer fee for Ronaldo and were offering the Portuguese a two-year contract worth £2 per week which would have made him the highest-paid footballer in the world by a fair distance.

While reports claimed Ronaldo declined the move as he wanted to play for a club competing in the Champions League, AL-Hial's president Fahad ben Nafel has claimed the deal was close and it fell through only because of a transfer ban on the Saudi club.

Ben Nafel said the money was never a problem and they had negotiations with Ronaldo but the club was unsure about finalising the move until the ban was lifted.

"Yes, we negotiated with Ronaldo. The problem was not in the money or the principle. Al-Hilal is able to bring in the stars of the world, but it was in the decision of the Sports Arbitration Center that prevented us from registering the players," Ben Nafel told YouTube channel Thamanya.

"We did not stop negotiating with the players despite the decision to ban, but we were delaying entering the final stage of the negotiations until the ban was lifted," he added.

Al-Hilal were handed a transfer ban in May this year after club's midfielder Mohamed Kanno, who had agreed a deal to join rival club Al-Nassr as a free agent made a u-turn on his decision and signed a contract extension. While Kanno was handed a four-month suspension, Al-Hilal were banned from signing players in the summer window.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, has struggled to find his rhythm at United this season having scored just one goal across competitions so far. He is yet to break the deadlock in the Premier League despite United having played six matches with four wins under their belt.

'Problem was not the money': Saudi club Al Hilal's president opens up on failed move for Cristiano Ronaldo

The mother of the Everton fan whose phone was smashed by Cristiano Ronaldo has demanded the 'right punishment' for the Manchester United star. Ronaldo had slapped a phone out of a 14-year-old Everton fan's hand last season after Manchester United lost 1-0 against the Toffees at Goodison Park.

14-year-old Jacob, an autistic Everton fan was trying to capture Ronaldo when the Man Utd star was walking down the tunnel after his team's defeat. However, much to his shock, the Portuguese forward smashed the phone out of Jacob's hands leaving him with a broken phone and bruised hand.

The Manchester United star was recently charged for the incident by the Football Association. The Man Utd star had also been cautioned by the police in August earlier this year when questioned about the incident which had taken place in April. Ronaldo had apologised for his behaviour at the time and had also invited the fan to watch a game at Old Trafford.

However, his mother Sarah Kelly is not happy with Ronaldo 'getting away' and has demanded the 'right punishment' for the Manchester United star stating that his behaviour was unacceptable. She claimed her son still hasn't had his phone back.

“Let's hope he finally gets the right punishment. He can't keep getting away with it. His behaviour is unacceptable. I'm being hounded by people saying I'm dragging it up again but I didn't know anything about it. He should have been dealt with six months ago. My son talks about what happened to him every day. He still hasn't had his phone back," Kelly told the Mirror.

“He should have paid for that. He's the one who caused all this. It baffles me – he can assault a child and carry on as normal. How can he sleep at night knowing the distress he has caused to a young fan," she added.

When asked about Ronaldo's offer to meet the young fan and his family, Kelly said nothing has been put in place for a visit to Old Trafford. She said Ronaldo apologised but he said he didn't do anything wrong which felt like an insult to the family.

“He offered us to meet him and said he was sorry but said he had done nothing wrong. That's not an apology, that's an insult," said Kelly.

India is a sport-loving country. While cricket continues to rule the hearts of many across the nation, many other sports have also risen in popularity in recent years. Football is rising at a rapid pace but still has miles to cover to make an impact globally. The likes of Sunil Chhetri, Indian football captain, goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and the likes have created a strong base, but many of their young followers need to stand tall and help the country's football to make a strong impact worldwide.

Andre Villas-Boas -- football manager and Laureus ambassador -- is one of the youngest top-flight managers who won the Europa League with FC Porto at 33. The game has been associated with him over the years. Recently, he got a chance to interact with underprivileged kids during his three-day visit to India -- and spoke at length on the future of the game in the country during an exclusive interaction with Wion Sports' Editor Digvijay Singh Deo.

After conducting a masterclass for the young small children of Delhi, the former Chelsea manager Andre revealed how his meeting went with the young kids. "Emotionally, it was very very rewarding for me. Hope it was the same for them. I'm thankful for the work done by Slum Soccer for these kids in India. I'm humbled and honoured. In such difficult circumstances they live, without infrastructure, and these 30 kids are still able to enjoy themselves. Put out the best skills they have. Not only technical skills but also cooperation, leadership and communication are some important tools they can take into their future. I thank Slum Soccer once again and Laureus for the work they do. We need more and more to change other people's lives."

During his visit to Delhi, Andre caught up with young football fan Jatin, a goalkeeper for his local football club - Rurka Kalan. Their mutual love for football made them connect instantly and Jatin got a chance to interact with the former Chelsea manager, a moment he will not forget for quite some time.

Jatin earned the chance to meet Andre after winning a unique drawing competition, which featured hundreds of participants from around the world. The young Indian fan's design will now be engraved on the back of the 16th special edition timepiece that Swiss luxury watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen has launched in collaboration with Laureus Sport for Good.

“I am really excited to be in India to meet Jatin and the young people from Slum Soccer. It’s wonderful to think that the watch which Jatin helped to design will contribute to raising awareness for Laureus. It was a great honour recognising Jatin as the winner of the competition and we enjoyed talking about football during our time together.

I am also thinking of all the other young people, like Jatin, who are in Laureus programmes around the world, similar to Slum Soccer here in New Delhi, and who are benefiting from the experience. This is a brilliant and unique initiative and I would like to thank Laureus Global Partner IWC sincerely for their support," Andre said about his interaction with the young fan.

Football is certainly one of the most accessible sports to play. On being asked if he feels Indian football needs that push as, despite the population, India has not reached the levels it should have, Andre pointed out that we need to tap into the talent.

"I think you need a lot of reforms. I know a lot of Portuguese have come here for the stars league that you (India) have proposed. I spoke to them before coming and they told me to make the most of the experience. You need to create a culture. You need to get the football into schools, into kids' heads so that they idolise their heroes and try to emulate them. The Ronaldos and the Messis. But you need the infrastructure and conditions. You guys have enough technical skills, you just need to work on it."

The population of India surely indicates that there is no dearth of talent across any field. Thus, hopes for high for Indian football and the youngsters joining the game to take it to a level that it has never reached as yet.

Cristiano Ronaldo was charged by the Football Association on Friday in relation to an incident that saw the Manchester United forward apparently knock a phone out of an Everton fan's hand at a Premier League match in April. It is alleged Ronaldo's conduct was improper and/or violent, the governing body said. Ronaldo received a police caution in August after being interviewed by officers in relation to an allegation of assault and criminal damage following the incident at Goodison Park on April 9.

Will Portugal give a fitting farewell to Cristiano Ronaldo? Is this the year for them in Qatar World Cup?

Listen, the past six years have been the best ever. We have won the Euro and the Nations League. The talent coming through doesn't stop. We have a coach (Fernando Santos) who has brought a lot of success. I sincerely have good hopes as we have most positions covered. We have excellent wingers and creative and technically-gifted midfielders. The No. 9 was always our big problem but let's hope Ronaldo can provide us with solutions and give us that result.

Posssible line-up (4-3-3) for Portugal for FIFA World Cup 2022: Anthony Lopes (GK), Pepe, Joao Cancelo, Nuno Mendes, Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Joao Moutinho, Diogo Jota, Cristiano Ronaldo, Otavio. They are the two biggest stars ever in football. We wish they could stay longer in time to continue to give us plenty to cheer for. It looks like this World Cup will be their last and they will be up for it."

Manchester United announced Thursday a net loss of £115.5 million ($130.4 million, 132.2 million euros) for the 2021/22 season even though revenues at the club rose by 18 percent to £583 million. Figures released incorporating the final quarter of the 20-time English champions' financial year, which ended in June, showed losses rose by £23m on the previous year.

The club's net debt also increased from £419.5 million in 2021 to £514.9 million this year, an increase of more than 22 percent. United attributed that rise mainly to unrealised foreign exchange losses on the retranslation of borrowings in US dollars. "Our financial results for fiscal 2022 reflect a recovery from the pandemic, a full return of fans and new commercial partnerships offset by increased investment in the playing squad," said chief financial officer Cliff Baty. "Our results have been adversely affected by the absence of a summer tour in July 2021, material exceptional and increased utility costs, and the impact of the weakening of sterling on our non-cash finance costs."

United finished the 2021/22 Premier League season in sixth place with their lowest points total since the Premier League replaced England's First Division in 1992. Failure to qualify for the Champions League will also hurt United's future finances. They are instead competing in the less lucrative Europa League during new manager Erik ten Hag's first season in charge. United finished 13 points adrift of fourth place and 35 behind Premier League champions Manchester City as their wait for a first major trophy since 2017 went on. They are currently fifth, six points behind early season leaders Arsenal but having played six games to the Gunners' seven.

Cristiano Ronaldo has shunned talks regarding his retirement from international football and said he wants to continue playing for a few more years. The Portuguese legend had earlier said the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 will be his final international tournament but has now expressed his desire to continue till the Euros in 2024.

One of the greatest footballers of all time, Ronaldo has been going strong despite turning 37 earlier this year. While he has lost pace and is not as effective on the pitch as he once was, Ronaldo is still one of the fittest footballers around and had proved his mettle once again after returning to the Premier League last season.

He scored 18 goals in the Premier League after returning to Manchester United and was the club's top scorer last season across all competitions. Ronaldo said he still feels motivated to continue playing at the highest level and is targeting the 2024 Euros after the FIFA World Cup this year.

'I hope to be a part of the Federation for a few more years. I still feel motivated, my ambition is high. My path in the national team is not over. We have many quality youngsters. I will be at the World Cup and I want to be at the European Championship," said Ronaldo at the Portuguese Football Federation's annual Quinas de Ouro awards ceremony.

'I still feel motivated': Cristiano Ronaldo shuns retirement talks, wants to play Euro 2024 after World Cup

Manchester United defeated Sheriff Tiraspol 2-0 in the Europa League match on Thursday (September 15). It was a clinical display from the Erik Ten Hag-led Red Devils and the clash also made heads turn with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his first goal of the ongoing season, by converting a penalty to extend his side's lead in the recent face-off in Moldova.

It isn't everyday when a team as big as Man United travel to the small nation. Moreover, the people of the country went bonkers in the stadium seeing Ronaldo at his best. His goal sent the spectators into a frenzy as the 37-year-old finally opened his goal-scoring account this season. But it wasn't only the crowd present in the stands who went out of control seeing CR7's heroics. When the Man United players were coming out of the airport to take the team bus, many had gathered in large numbers to greet the star-studded line-up. The loudest cheer was for Ronaldo and just then a young fan -- donning a Man United jersey -- breached the security and ran towards the legendary footballer.

Ronaldo hugged the youngster and even signed an autograph for him while taking him to the team bus. Here's the video of the entire episode as many have hailed Ronaldo for his heartfelt gesture towards his young follower:

Cristiano Ronaldo scored for the first time this season as Manchester United got their Europa League campaign back on track with a 2-0 win at Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday. Ronaldo had gone seven games without a goal before the United striker converted a first half penalty against the Moldovan champions. It was the 37-year-old's 699th club goal, but Ronaldo's low-key celebration was in keeping with the comfortable nature of United's third successive away victory. This was the kind of unglamourous fixture Ronaldo seemed desperate to avoid when he launched his unsuccessful bid to quit Old Trafford for a Champions League club in the summer.

But the Portugal star will be relieved to have got on the scoresheet, after Jadon Sancho put United ahead with a well-timed response on the day he was left out of the England squad. Ronaldo missed United's pre-season tour for "family reasons" and, while Ten Hag was pleased with his contribution against Sheriff, he says the forward needs more work to reach peak fitness.

"We could expect this when you miss pre-season so he has to work really hard and invest to get the right fitness, then he will score more goals," United boss Erik ten Hag said. "You can see he is really close and when he gets fitter he will finish them. I think he is totally committed to this project and to this team. He needed that goal. He was close many times. You see connections coming around him. We're happy for him and the team wanted him to bring the goal, so that's good."

United lost their opening Group E match 1-0 against Real Sociedad last Thursday. That gave Ten Hag's men no margin for error in Chisinau and they were up to the task against a Sheriff side who beat Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage last season.

United's first trip to the far-flung outpost of Moldova served as a painful reminder of their diminished status following last season's failure to qualify for the Champions League. But, showing respect for Sheriff, Ten Hag named a strong side and Sancho, one of five changes, struck with United's first meaningful attack in the 17th minute.

- Sancho strikes -

Taking Christian Eriksen's pass in his stride, Sancho cleverly switched direction inside the Sheriff area, giving himself room to plant a cool finish into the bottom corner from 12 yards. Ronaldo doubled United's lead in the 39th minute, easily stroking in his spot-kick after Diogo Dalot was brought down by Patrick Kpozo. United remain three points behind group leaders Real Sociedad, who won 2-1 against Omonia Nicosia.

Sociedad took the lead through Ander Guevara in the 30th minute and former Crystal Palace striker Alexander Sorloth bagged the 80th minute winner after Bruno equalised eight minutes earlier. Andrea Belotti scored his first Roma goal to cap their 3-0 win against 10-man HJK Helsinki at the Stadio Olimpico.

Jose Mourinho's side suffered a shock 2-1 loss against Ludogorets in their Group C opener, but they were always in control after HJK captain Miro Tenho was sent off in the 15th minute for a professional foul on Belotti. Paulo Dybala took just 69 seconds to break the deadlock after coming on at half-time as he fired home from the edge of the area.

Lorenzo Pellegrini chested in the second goal after 49 minutes, with former Torino forward Belotti tapping home in the 68th minute. In Group A, Bodo/Glimt beat FC Zurich 2-1 to take top spot with Arsenal's game against PSV Eindhoven postponed after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Surprise Bundesliga leaders Union Berlin slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Braga as Vitor Oliveira's 77th minute goal settled the Group D tie. In Group F, Midtjylland powered to a stunning 5-1 rout of Lazio, while Feyenoord's Iran winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh hit a hat-trick in their 6-0 demolition of Sturm Graz.

Bayern Munich star Thomas Mueller was recently asked to pick his favourite between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Two of the greatest footballers of all time, Messi and Ronaldo have enjoyed an epic rivalry over the years and continue to divide fans when it comes to the GOAT debate.

Despite being in the final lap of their respective careers both Messi and Ronaldo continue to enthral fans with their sensational skills and incredible longevity. Ronaldo currently plays for Manchester United while Messi has been plying his trade with his former Barcelona teammate Neymar at PSG after joining the French club last year.

Asked to pick his favourite between the two of the best to have graced the game, Muller snubbed the Argentine and picked Ronaldo explaining that he has better stats against Messi. The Bayern Munich forward has come up against both Messi and Ronaldo on quite a few occasions in his career so far.

"I go for Ronaldo, against Messi I have good statistics, against Ronaldo; not that good," Muller was quoted as saying by ESPN.

Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi: Bayern Munich superstar Thomas Mueller settles the GOAT debate

French midfielder Paul Pogba's elder brother Mathias Pogba recently levelled some shocking allegations against the Juventus star. Mathias accused Pogba of using witchcraft to cast a spell on his France teammate Kylian Mbappe among others.

Mathias' shocking revelations came after Pogba alleged his brother was part of a blackmail attempt to extort money out of him. Pogba's camp had released a statement about him being blackmailed after Mathias shared a bizarre video on social media where he claimed he had some serious explosive revelations to make about his brother.

Mathias' accusing Pogba of using witchcraft is not the first time sorcery has been discussed in football. There have been several instances in the past when people have claimed to use black magic in football. Ahead of the FIFA World Cup in 2014, a Ghanaian witch doctor had claimed to have caused Cristiano Ronaldo a knee injury.

When a Ghanaian witch doctor said he caused Ronaldo's injury

Ronaldo was at the peak of his powers and had enjoyed a stellar season with Real Madrid heading into the World Cup in 2014. He was the reigning Ballon d'Or winner and had also helped Real Madrid claim the Champions League title last season. He was establishing his credentials as one of the best in the world and was expected to set the stage on fire at the World Cup.

However, Ronaldo suffered a knee injury in the build-up to the World Cup in Brazil which put his participation in the showpiece event in doubt. A Ghanaian witch doctor claimed he cast a spell on the former Real Madrid star to ensure he either missed the entire World Cup or didn't play against Ghana.

The Ghanaian witch doctor named Nana Kwaku Bonsam - which translates to 'Devil of Wednesday', had claimed he was 'working on' Ronaldo to make him miss Portugal's last group stage clash against Ghana at the 2014 World Cup. As per a report in The Guardian, the witch doctor claimed he had formulated a special powder from his gods and mixed it with some leaves to place it around an image of Ronaldo.

“I know what Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury is about, I’m working on him,” Bonsam had told a local radio channel in an interview at the time.

“I am very serious about it. Last week, I went around looking for four dogs and I got them to be used in manufacturing a special spirit called Kahwiri Kapam.

“I said it four months ago that I will work on Cristiano Ronaldo seriously and rule him out of the World up or at least prevent him from playing against Ghana and the best thing I can do is to keep him out through injury. This injury can never be cured by any medic, they can never see what is causing the injury because it is spiritual. Today, it is his knee, tomorrow it is his thigh, next day it is something else," he further claimed. Bayern Munich held talks with Cristiano Ronaldo's agent over potential transfer but deal was 'not an option'

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has made his desire to play at a Champions League-bound club extremely apparent. He was offered a brief respite after AC Milan expressed interest in the Portuguese star to replace their star-forward Rafael Leao, who was being eyed by Premier League giants Chelsea.

However, it seems like Ronaldo will have to make do with domestic action as the transfer offer for Leao, who he was expected to replace, has been rejected by Milan. The Rossoneri were previously eyeing the 37-year-old in case they were to lose his compatriot. However, those plans have seemingly fallen through as The Blues faltered in their pursuit of one of the hottest Serie A talents.

The Italian defensive maestro is said to be holding out for a release clause which is worth a whopping £130m for Leao. It is essential to note that the young Portuguese talent's importance in the team cannot be understated as he played a vital role in earning the Rossoneri the title last season.

Leao enjoyed an uber-successful outing in the iconic red and black jersey in the 2021-22 season, scoring 14 goals in addition to recording 12 assists over the course of 42 games. His exceptional performance across the season is also what piqued the interest of the London-based outfit.

However, with the deal currently dead in the water, Chelsea will have to rely on the signings that they have brought on after parting ways with over £250 million on players like Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly and more.

Cristiano Ronaldo's UCL dreams dashed as AC Milan reject Chelsea's offer for Rafael Leao: Reports

The Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga has remained in the headlines for a long period. While Ronaldo remains desperate to leave Manchester United, his agent Jorge Mendes is working hard to fulfill his client's demand of finding him a new and suitable club. As per reports, the Portuguese striker wants to make a move as he is eager to play the Champions League (CL) and, thus, remains adamant about exiting the club at Old Trafford.

Mendes has reportedly been in talks with many top clubs such as Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich, Athletico Madrid, etc. for Ronaldo's transfer. However, nothing emerged out of these discussions. As per a report, he has once again reopened talks with Chelsea after they failed to acquire the services of Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Pierre-Emerick reportedly isn't keen on signing a one-year contract being offered by the Blues and wants a longer deal. Hence, the Man United striker Ronaldo has once again come into the picture for the Thomas Tuchel-led club, who are in need of an aggressive striker post the departure of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

Earlier, Mendes had first held talks with Chelsea about signing Ronaldo. Back then, Tuchel had his apprehensions and decided against it after unimpressive feedback about the superstar striker from Erik Ten Hag, manager at Old Trafford. Despite Chelsea owner Todd Boehly reportedly being interested in acquiring the Portugal captain's services, the deal went down the drain. Nonetheless, it seems with Aubameyang's deal getting stalled, Ronaldo has a chance to make a switch and enter Chelsea.

So far, Ronaldo has failed to create any impact for the Red Devils in the ongoing EPL 2022/23 edition, where he has only made limited appearances on the field. After four games, United have won and lost two each.

Ronaldo's agent reopens talks with Chelsea after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang turns down deal: Report

Cristiano Ronaldo isn't having the best of time at Manchester United. Reportedly, he is desperate to move out of the Old Trafford club, however, his agent Jorge Mendes has still not been able to find a suitable club for his superstar client. While the superstar striker has no option but to continue with the Red Devils till the time his agent finds him a new club, the 37-year-old has started most of his game on the bench for Man United in the ongoing EPL 2022/23 season.

Ronaldo started on the bench in two of the last three games for the Erik Ten Hag-led Man United in the current EPL season. The former Real Madrid and Juventus superstar was made to warm the bench and wasn't named in the starting XI by the new manager in Man United's clash versus rivals Liverpool and minnows Southampton as well. Thus, the premier club's icon and former England defender Rio Ferdinand opined on Ronaldo's situation at the club.

Speaking on his YouTube channel Vibe with Five, Ferdinand said, "Whether he stays or not, none of us know. But knowing Cristiano, I know for a fact that he will be absolutely fuming right now. You don't get to do what he's done in his career over this amazing amount of time at the levels he's been playing by being someone who's going to accept not starting for a team that isn't in the UEFA Champions League,"

Cristiano Ronaldo is making the headlines every day. His stay at Manchester United remains an unpleasant one where the superstar striker is keen to leave, as per various reports, but his agent Jorge Mendes isn't being able to find a suitable club for him. Amid all this, the 37-year-old remains firm at the Old Trafford club where he is not getting a lot of game time in the ongoing Premier League (EPL) season.

In Man United's home encounter versus Liverpool, on Monday (August 22) at Old Trafford, Ronaldo failed to be a part of the starting XI. He was subbed in the 86th minute where he failed to create any impact in his side's much-needed 2-1 win over Liverpool. As per a report in The Sun, United manager Erik Ten Hag has had enough of Ronaldo and his behaviour -- which is reportedly said to be causing a negative impact on the entire camp -- and has brutally axed both him and club captain Harry Maguire. Reportedly, in a 2-hour-long meeting, Ten Hag informed the two that they won't be part of the starting XI versus Liverpool citing form issues. On the other hand, even the rest of the players have been told to abide by Erik's plans or feel free to leave the club before the transfer window closes.

Ronaldo had recently shared on Instagram that he will soon be giving a tell-all interview, revealing the exact picture of his situation at Man United. This has not been well received by Erik and it has reportedly left the Dutchman infuriated. On the other hand, some players have also raised issues about Ronaldo's behaviour and negative presence given his dicey situation at Man United.

After United got off the mark in the ongoing EPL season, Erik Ten Hag was questioned by the reporters on whether Ronaldo, Maguire & Co. will be able to adapt to his game plan. In this regard, he said, "He (Ronaldo) always performed, so, why he can't do this? For me, his age is not an issue. If you are young, you are good enough, and when you are old and you still deliver the performance, you are also good enough. We have a squad and then we have a way of play, a style, but also, a game-plan, and you look what is the best approach to the game, and that is what we did today. We do it every game, so, today we picked those players but can be Saturday (at Southampton), and it can be different."

Napoli were previously linked with Ronaldo this summer, but they failed to reach accords regarding a potential move to Italy as a bid for the player was never made, forcing him o consider alternative paths.

However, it seems like the two parties may have breathed new life into this particular move. Should Mendes successfully manage to draw Ronaldo away from the Mancunian giants, he would be required to present an alternative attacking solution for the club.

An offer that Mendes has proposed to the Diego Armando Maradona-based outfit is for Ronaldo to chart a course to Napoli and United acquire their Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who could effectlvely set United back by £86million.

However, popular journo Gianluca Di Marzio revealed that the Milan-based outfit refused the offer.

Parting ways with Cristiano Ronaldo might prove to be quite beneficial for the Red Devils as it may free up a significant amount of funds that the club can go on to reinvest in various other avenues. However, the exact amount that the club could generate is something that remains shrouded in mystery and intrigue.

Man United's Cristiano Ronaldo was open to take pay cut to be part of Borussia Dortmund: Report

Cristiano Ronaldo made heads turn when he gatecrashed Sky Sports' pre-match show ahead of Manchester United's home encounter versus Liverpool in the ongoing English Premier League (EPL) 2022/23 season on Monday (August 22), at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo, who was not named in the starting XI for the Red Devils, came over to the touchline to interact with Sky Sports' star-studded team. While the Portuguese captain shook hands with former United skipper Gary Neville, he completely blanked ex-Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher. It is to be noted that the former English player has been vocal in criticising Ronaldo over his recent actions at Man United. Thus, the superstar striker brutually ignored him and left after having a few words with Roy Keane. Carragher, on the other hand, was completely taken aback by Ronaldo's behaviour.

Thus, former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has lashed out at the 37-year-old Ronaldo's actions. “Keane and Gary(Neville) they have been killing him on Sky Sports as well so I’m sure is not because of that. Someone that played football for that long and made so many appearances for Liverpool at least you say hi out of respect. Another thing why I will never like Cristiano Ronaldo and when football finish let’s see who he will have around being like this,” the former Liverpool wrote on Twitter.

'Will never...': Former Liverpool star lashes out at Cristiano Ronaldo for brutally ignoring Jamie Carragher

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo's recent cameo on Sky Sports' pitch-side interaction featuring the likes of Roy Keane, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher sent fans into a frenzy after they caught wind of their conversation ahead of United's match against Liverpool.

In what was a rather brief exchange of words at the commentary huddle on the outfield, Ronaldo and Keane discussed how he was left out of the starting lineup for the match. In a most curious moment, Keane said, "Benched?" when approached by Ronaldo, who responded by saying, "What do you want me to do?".

Keane beamed, "Get in the team." To which the five-time Ballon d'Or winner retorted by saying, "I know." He subsequently walked away from the huddle to resume his warm-up with the rest of his team.

It is interesting to note that shortly before his exchange with Keane, Ronaldo also blanked Jamie Carragher as the former Liverpool star tried to interact with the Portuguese icon. Ronaldo refused to shake hands with Carragher, preferring to greet and hug Neville before going around him to interact with Keane. The snub could possibly be attributed to the fact that Carragher has been vocally critical of Ronaldo in recent times.

The 44-year-old, however, managed to see the funny side of their interaction, or lack thereof, as he admitted that he was completely blanked by the Manchester United star before breaking into uproarious laughter with the rest of his crew.

Shortly after their pre-game interaction, the Erik ten Haag-led Manchester United went on to record a crucial 2-1 win against Jurgen Klopp's band of speedsters, bouncing back from two opening losses on the trot. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford's goals in each half were more than enough to seal Liverpool's fate at Old Trafford despite Mohamed Salah's late header.

Ronaldo was warming up ahead of Manchester United's much-awaited clash against Liverpool when the Portuguese icon came over to the touchline to meet Sky Sports' star-studded team. Carragher was present on the touchline alongside Gary Neville and Roy Keane with presenter David Jones asking them questions about the game.

Ronaldo first shook hands with former United captain Neville and had a few words with him before completely blanking Carragher, who has been quite vocal in his criticism of the Portuguese star over his recent actions. Ronaldo then went on to share an embrace with Keane and had a few words with him and walked off ignoring the Liverpool great.

Cristiano Ronaldo brutally ignores Jammie Carragher ahead of Liverpool clash, video goes viral - WATCH

Cristiano Ronaldo isn't having the best of time of late. While reports have been floating around that the superstar striker isn't very keen to continue at Manchester United, he currently has no other option but to stay put while his agent Jorge Mendes is continuously searching for a new club. Amid all this, the 37-year-old Portuguese star is having a tough time at the Erik Ten Hag-led Man United camp in the ongoing English Premier League (EPL) 2022/23 season.

Ronaldo has so far not been named in the starting XI in any of the three games for Man United in EPL 2022/23. He has only made brief appearances in all three encounters -- versus Brighton, Brentford, and Liverpool respectively. While United finally got off the mark in the new season -- following disastrous defeats in their opening two clashes -- with a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford on August 23, Ronaldo once again appeared in the second half (in the 86th minute) and failed to create any impact. No one knows what the future holds for Ronaldo at Man United, however, many feel he isn't fitting in Erik Ten Hag's scheme of things.

When asked about the same, while speaking to the press after United's stunning 2-1 win over Liverpool, the Dutchman made an interesting reply. "I think he can. In his whole career, he, under several managers, he did in several styles and systems," Ten Hag said.

The Dutch tactician further asserted on big names such as Ronaldo, captain Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Fred starting on the bench versus Liverpool. In this regard, he said, "He always performed, so, why he can't do this? For me, his age is not an issue. If you are young, you are good enough, and when you are old and you still deliver the performance, you are also good enough. We have a squad and then we have a way of play, a style, but also, a game-plan, and you look what is the best approach to the game, and that is what we did today. We do it every game, so, today we picked those players but can be Saturday (at Southampton), and it can be different."

"We need a squad, because we have many games to cover, and so, if we make a team out of the squad and we stick together as a squad then we can achieve a lot. I'm convinced about that."

After their first-ever win over Liverpool since 2018, Man United will now lock horns with Southampton on Saturday (August 27), which will be an away clash.

Manchester United have had a woeful start to their Premier League campaign as they find themselves reeling at the bottom of the points table after back-to-back defeats in the first two matches of the season. United lost their season-opener against Brighton 2-1 before getting thrashed 4-0 by Brentford in their next game.

It has been a disastrous start for new manager Erik Ten Hag, who finds himself under immense pressure with no points two show for after the first two matches of the season. Ten Hag is set to face an even bigger test in his third game in charge of the club as United will take on arch-rivals Liverpool next.

Manchester United will lock horns with Liverpool at Old Trafford on Tuesday (August 23). While Jurgen Klopp's side has not had the best of starts to the season, they remain a hungry unit who will be looking to go all guns blazing against United as they search for their first win of the season.

Amid United's struggles this season, former club captain Wayne Rooney has urged manager Erik Ten Hag to drop both Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford. While Ronaldo appears unsettled at United having already expressed his desire to leave the club this summer, Rashford has looked far from his best in the first two games.

Rooney believes Ten Hag should be focused on getting 'energy' on the pitch after United's lethargic show in their first two games and that he should not start Ronaldo or Rashford against Liverpool. “I wouldn’t play Cristiano Ronaldo, and I wouldn’t play Marcus Rashford. If I was in Ten Hag’s position my main concern would be getting energy on the pitch," the Manchester United legend wrote in his column for the Times.

“And United’s failure to recruit a No 9 means they relied on Ronaldo against Brentford, even though he hadn’t trained a lot with the team. He looked like he needs time to get match fit," he added.

Rooney also questioned Rashford's intent on the pitch and claimed the England forward looks like he belongs anywhere but on a football pitch. Rooney insisted he wants the best for his former teammate but he has not seen Rashford perform and smile on the pitch for a long time.

"As for Marcus, I think he needs to do a lot of soul-searching and figure out what he wants, for his own good, before anything else. Because watching him is a real concern: he looks like he wants to be anywhere but on a football pitch," wrote the former Man Utd captain.

I haven’t seen him smile on the field for a long time. His performances have dipped - he hasn’t been selected by England for more than a year. I’m coming from a place of wanting the best for him. He’s a lovely kid and a local lad who came through the ranks at United, who everyone wants to see doing well.

"But you look at the difference between Marcus now and when he first came into the team: the passion he showed, the smile on his face when he scored. It’s night and day," he added.
