The World Test Championship (WTC) final turned out to be quite a dismal affair for Team India. While Rohit Sharma’s men had to concede a 209-run defeat at the hands of Australia, it was Virat Kohli who probably had to face the maximum criticism for playing a poor shot in the second innings. Playing a delivery outside the off stump, the India batter fell just one short of his half-century. Kohli’s questionable shot selection infuriated fans and many former cricketers as well. Following the conclusion of the game, the former India skipper has shared multiple cryptic posts on social media. Talking about some ‘change,’ he has now come up with one of Alan Watts’ quotes on Instagram stories.

“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance," Virat Kohli posted today.Previously, Virat Kohli had shared a quote by Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu’s quote just after India’s WTC final defeat. “Silence is a source of great strength," he wrote.

Kohli faces criticism

Sunil Gavaskar was one of many who felt that for Virat Kohli it was not wise to play such a shot in the WTC final. “It was a pretty ordinary shot. Outside the off stump. He was leaving till then. Maybe he was conscious that he needed one run to reach his half century. It happens when you are nearing a milestone. It happened to Jadeja. He played a delivery he shouldn't have when he was (on) 48. Happened to Ajinkya Rahane who was on 46. He hadn't played that shot all this while. Suddenly, why do you play that shot? Because you are aware of that landmark,” the legendary India batter was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Virat Kohli talks about 'change' in his cryptic Instagram post

Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli share a great bond both on and off the field. The duo were even spotted watching the FA Cup final together ahead of the World Test Championship final. For Gill, Virat Kohli is one person that he looks up to. The India opener has never shied away from expressing his admiration for ‘King Kohli’. Back in 2019, before the Test series against South Africa, Gill had even revealed that he tries to follow the work ethic of Virat Kohli.

“I have my role models. I try to follow the work ethics of Virat bhaiya but I know every player is different and you can’t copy anyone,” Gill had told The Times of India.

Shubman Gill's career

Shubman Gill, who made his ODI debut against New Zealand in 2019, became the fastest Indian batter to complete 1,000 runs in the 50-over format. Gill breached the 1,000-run mark in ODIs in just 19 games. He surpassed Virat Kohli to achieve the sensational feat. The Punjab-born was five innings quicker than Kohli in setting the incredible record.

In international cricket, Shubman Gill played seven games under the leadership of Virat Kohli. Under Kohli’s captaincy, the opener scored 279 runs at an average of 25.36. He has had one half century during Kohli’s stint as the Indian captain.

In ODIs, Shubman Gill has so far donned the Team India jersey on 24 occasions. With an average of 65.55, the batter has 1,311 runs under his belt in the format. In T20I cricket, Gill has 202 runs to his name after playing six games. In red-ball cricket, Gill has scored 921 runs after featuring in 16 games.

In international cricket, Shubman Gill was last seen in action during the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at The Oval. Despite enjoying a stellar season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year, the 23-year-old failed to perform as per expectations against the Pat Cummins-led side in the WTC final. Gill could only score 31 runs across two innings in that game.

Shubman Gill in IPL 2023

Earlier this year, Shubman Gill exhibited his superb batting in IPL 2023. Representing Gujarat Titans, Gill notched up 890 runs at an average of 59.33 in the competition. He had scored three centuries and four half centuries in the IPL this year. Gill also won the Orange Cap in the tournament.

Harsha Bhogle and Peter Drury's 'fabulous evening' during the WTC Final

There have always been bizarre moments in cricket. Pakistani youngster Haider Ali is the latest to join the list of players who have suffered through strange moments on the field. On Wednesday in the T20 Blast game against Warwickshire, Haider Ali threw his wicket away in a moment of inexplicable decision-making.

What happened in the game?

Haider Ali, who plays for Derbyshire, stepped out to play Danny Briggs in the 11th over. The spinner, however, saw him coming and dragged the ball wide, out of Ali's reach. In an ideal case, the wicketkeeper would have broken the stumps without much problem. In this game, Alex Davies fumbled to collect the ball. The batter got off the hook and returned back to his crease, or so he thought.

All of a sudden, Haider Ali left his place again in an attempt to steal a single. As soon as he left his mark, he understood that the keeper had already gathered the ball. Davies swiftly dislodged the bails and sent Haider Ali back to the dugout.

It could have been a turning point in the match as the opener was batting brilliantly up until then. Ali made 48 from 34 balls in the high-scoring encounter, which Derbyshire managed to win.

Warwickshire chose to bat first and put up a massive 203 runs on the board courtesy of a 36-ball 79 from Sam Hain. In reply, Derbyshire got off to a strong start provided by Haider Ali and Luis Reece. Ali's dismissal on the second ball of the eleventh over meant that the Easy Midlands side needed 108 runs to win the match. It took a heroic 66 off 25 deliveries from captain Leus du Plooy for his team to cross the victory line.

Answering a few other questions, Surya Kumar Yadav said that his favourite city in the UK is London and his favourite cricket ground in the country was Lord’s. “It has a beautiful history and I remember when I came here for the Test match, it was an amazing feeling," he said.

Yadav also answered a long-standing question of his fans – what is the ‘supla shot’ and where did it come from? The answer from the batter was that the shot had its origin in tennis-ball cricket.

“I think this term has come from tennis cricket. I have seen a lot of them, when I play, when I go back home. The shot means the ball which you hit right behind the wicket keeper when it’s shot coming right at your head. It’s something like going behind what I love,” Yadav answered.

Ahead of the upcoming series, England and Aussie players have already got involved in a war of words. Recently, Stuart Broad commented on the bio-bubble arrangements England had to go through when they toured Australia for Ashes 2021. Broad questioned the hard quarantine in place Down Under and called it a 'void series'. 'Is that an excuse for 4-0': Mitchell Starc hits back at Stuart Broad's bio-bubble remark on Ashes 2021

Former Australian captain Allan Border has slammed Pat Cummins & Co.'s decision to skip warm-up games before the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final and Ashes 2023. The Australian Test team will lock horns with Team India in the forthcoming WTC final, to be held early next month at The Oval, London, which will be followed by the Ashes 2023 edition in the United Kingdom. Australia have backed out of playing warm-ups and will, instead, focus on a high-intensity training camp at Beckenham, including centre-wicket practice and net sessions.

However, Border -- who led Australia to their first ODI World Cup triumph in 1987 -- isn't impressed. He feels nothing can replace game time and feels the decision is 'risky' ahead of an ICC final and Ashes series versus arch-rivals England.

'NOTHING REPLACES GAME TIME'

"I don't care how hard you work in the nets, nothing replaces game time," Border told 'Fox Cricket'. He further opined, "It just doesn't feel right not to play any cricket leading into an Ashes series. I just think that's fraught with danger... there's something gnawing at me saying it's the wrong decision."

"I'm really surprised we're just allowing the Ashes tour to be so condensed with no cricket between the games, but that's the way it is. I get it, we've got IPLs and T20s, I understand. The game's moved on. But I think there's an opportunity there for us to go to England early and play a couple of games... just to polish things off a bit," Border added.

Talking about Team India, players have started to leave for the UK in different batches as some of the WTC final-bound players are still involved in IPL 2023. Even Rohit Sharma & Co. will also skip warm-up matches due to the ongoing English County Championship. As the WTC is an ICC event, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is under no duty to organise practice matches for visiting teams.

Cummins-led Australia head into the WTC summit clash as the No. 1 ranked Test side. They lost their last Test series in the run-up to the finale to India, 2-1 in the subcontinent, but will be confident taking on India at the neutral venue.

'NOTHING REPLACES GAME TIME' "I don't care how hard you work in the nets, nothing replaces game time," Border told 'Fox Cricket'. He further opined, "It just doesn't feel right not to play any cricket leading into an Ashes series. I just think that's fraught with danger... there's something gnawing at me saying it's the wrong decision." Also Read: When Shane Warne passed away, it felt like we Indians lost one of our own: PM Modi recalls Aussie legend "I'm really surprised we're just allowing the Ashes tour to be so condensed with no cricket between the games, but that's the way it is.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had to win their face-off versus defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the last league stage game of IPL 2023 on Sunday evening (May 21) to book the vacant fourth spot in the playoffs. Despite a sublime 61-ball 101 not out from Kohli, three-time runners-up RCB failed to defend 198 in the must-win game. They remain one of the three franchises -- part of the IPL since its inception in 2008 -- to have not won the elusive trophy. Kohli, who has been part of the RCB franchise since 2008, has time and again revealed that he has no intentions of leaving the Bengaluru camp, but former England captain Kevin Pietersen shared a bold suggestion for the ex-Indian captain. The fate of the Asia cup still uncertain, host Pakistan have threatened to boycott a test Series in Sri Lanka after reports emerged off the Sri Lankan cricket board's reluctance to commit to the hybrid model proposed by the PCB. The PCB proposed the hybrid model to ensure the participation of India. India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since early 2012 and all subsequent encounters have taken place on neutral ground and in multilateral events like the world cup or the Asia cup India have refused to travel to Pakistan citing security concerns and the PCB has offered to host all matches involving India in either the UAE or even in Sri Lanka.

Malik, during his chat, also lamented the cricket culture in Pakistan which wants overnight results. He, however, picked Babar to break all kind of batting record if he focused on being a player only.

While Babar has been one of the most prolific batsmen of Pakistan, his leadership has been questioned at times. Malik, commenting on batting and leadership, said that people are mixing two things and judging him harshly.

“I will say one thing. We are mixing his individual batting performance and leadership. We shouldn’t do that. Both are separate. But when we judge him when team loses, and his performances are also dragged. We shouldn’t do that. It’s a team game. In the past, one player could win the match but game has changed now. It needs team work,” Malik added.

Notably, Babar leads Pakistan in all three formats, that is, Tests, ODIs and T20Is. As skipper, Babar has scored 5,281 runs across all formats in 109 matches at an average of 49.35. Babar has also won 63 matches out of 109 and has lost 35 with one being ties and four producing no results while leading the side.

Former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik wants Babar Azam to quit captaincy | Know Why

Former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar celebrated his 50th birthday on April 24 and the wishes poured in from every corner of the world for the master blaster. Sachin is regarded as one of the best batsmen ever to play the game and is often referred as 'God of Cricket' in India.

Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting, in the latest show of ICC Review, also said that Tendulkar is technically the best batsman he has ever seen.

"I've said forever Sachin's technically the best batter that I've ever seen, and played with or against. Whatever plan that we came up with as a bowling group, he found a way to combat it, whether it was in India or Australia. It's hard to rank and judge players as everyone is different and everyone plays the game differently. But certainly through the generation that I played, he was technically the best player that I saw," Ponting said.

Sachin holds various batting records as of now and the most famous of them is his milestone of 100 international tons. Sachin has 51 Test hundreds and 49 ODI centuries. After Sachin, fans and former cricketers have picked Virat Kohli to break his 100 tons record.

"Regardless of how many runs you make, how many hundreds you make, to be physically good enough and have a skillset set good enough to stand up and play 200 Test matches is amazing. Virat's got all that ahead of him just yet. He's an unbelievably good player, there's no doubt about that. He's got over 70-odd international hundreds now. Sachin made a 100, didn't he? Let's wait until Virat's career's over and then I think it'll a much fairer comparison," Ponting added.

It remains to be seen if Kohli breaks Sachin's record on not but playing 200 Tests definitely seem like a very long shot for Virat despite him being one of the fittest players in cricket.

As of now, Kohli is second only to Sachin with 75 international tons - 46 in ODIs, 28 in Tests and one in T20I.

Recently, Simon Doull -- former New Zealand cricketer-turned-commentator -- made heads turn with his alleged controversial statement on Pakistan. In a recent statement that went viral, it was believed that the New Zealander, who is popular for his commentary stints worldwide, opened up on his experience in Pakistan and said 'living in Pakistan is like being in a jail'.

While Doull's alleged statement spread like wildfire on social media platforms, he recently opened up on the claims and slammed the fake remark. The fake quote was attributed to Geo News which stated, "Living in Pakistan is like living in jail. I was not allowed to go out as Babar Azam fans were waiting for me.
India's star middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition. The two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who got off to a losing start in the ongoing edition, were dealt with a huge blow when Shakib Al Hasan withdraw from the current season and now more miseries have been added with their regular captain Iyer being ruled out. In addition, Iyer will miss the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and Australia, at The Oval, London, in early June as he will undergo a back surgery.

As per ESPNcricinfo, Iyer will be travelling overseas for the surgery and, thus, will be out of cricketing action for at least three months before he resumes training. The 28-year-old has been dealing with back issues for a long time. He had missed the first Test of the home Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2022/23 edition before his back complaints resurfaced during the final Test, in Ahmedabad. As a result, he missed the three-match ODI series versus Australia. Before the India-Australia Tests, he had experienced problems due to the same injury in December after the end of India's tour of Bangladesh.

April 2, 2011 is a day written in golden words in the history of Indian cricket as India lifted their second 50-over World Cup trophy in Mumbai. The then Indian skipper MS Dhoni hit a six to win the final and the shot became one of the iconic moments in Indian cricket.

Dhoni, who now has retired from the game, recalled that iconic shot in a conversation with former Australia batsman Mike Hussey at a recent event by ICC in Mumbai.

“The best feeling was 15-20 minutes (before the winning moment). We didn’t need a lot of runs, the partnership was well-placed, there was a lot of dew. And the stadium started to sing Vande Mataram. That atmosphere I feel is very difficult to recreate – maybe in this [upcoming 2023] World Cup, there is a similar scenario, once the stadium, the fans start contributing. You know, it’s a very difficult (atmosphere) one to replicate. But it can only be replicated if the occasion is similar to that (in 2011) and there are like 40, 50 or 60,000 people who are singing,” said the former skipper.

Dhoni also said that for him, the winning moment was 15-20 minutes ago and not that six.

“To me, it was not the winning moment, it was 15-20 minutes ago when emotionally I was very high. And at the same time, I wanted to get done with it. We knew that we would win this from here, and it was very difficult for us to lose. So yes, you know it was more of a sense of satisfaction, job done, let’s move on from here,” he said.

MSD also acknowledged that winning the 2011 World Cup was one of the biggest things in his career as the team won under his captaincy.

“It never gets bigger than that. What I always firmly believe in is to keep your eyes on the target, as simple as possible. Once you have achieved it, that’s the time when you can enjoy it to the fullest. And the moment you start thinking a lot about why you want to win it, you start focusing more on the result. That’s the time you start mounting undue pressure on yourself,” he shared.
