In a latest development, a Los Angeles court has granted a request by Steven Tyler to strike portions of a sexual assault lawsuit filed against him by a woman who alleges they had sexual relationship when she was a teenager in the 1970s.

The court ruled in Tyler's favour, agreeing to strike parts of Julia Misley’s complaint that claimed she suffered “intentional infliction of emotional distress” based on Tyler’s publication of his memoirs.

Tyler, 75, has argued that Misley cannot use his memoirs as cause for emotional distress in court, as they were protected by the First Amendment and did not identify her.

Misley previously claimed she had a sexual relationship with Tyler when she was a teenager and that he convinced her mother to grant him guardianship over her when she was just 16 years old in order for them to continue the relationship.

Tyler's memoir does not name Misley, though he writes he “almost took a teen bride” because “her parents fell in love with me, signed a paper over for me to have custody, so I wouldn’t get arrested if I took her out of state. I took her on tour with me”.

Back in April, Tyler opened up about Misley's suit and denied all claims against him, stating that she consented to their sexual relationship. He also argued that he had immunity as her legal guardian and requested the suit be dismissed.

This ruling comes after a second woman filed a sexual assault lawsuit against Tyler in November, alleging he assaulted her twice in one day when she was a teenager in 1975. That suit was dismissed in February for not qualifying under the New York City law that allows abuse victims to speak up about decades-old crimes.

Charlotte Le Bon has joined the cast of HBO's The White Lotus Season 3, stepping into a role originally slated for Francesca Corney. Sources close to production revealed the recasting decision, citing the need for an older actress for the part. Details about Le Bon's character are being kept under wraps.

This marks the second recasting for the upcoming season. Previously, HBO parted ways with Serbian actor Miloš Biković, who had expressed support for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Bulgarian actor Julian Kostov was cast as his replacement.

Season 3 of The White Lotus is currently in production in Thailand, with filming locations including Bangkok and the islands of Koh Samui and Phuket. The new season will follow a new group of guests at another White Lotus property, including a multigenerational gang with a patriarch, a female corporate executive, an actress, a couple of mothers, a country club wife, a misfit, and a yogi.

"The first season highlighted money, and then the second season is sex. I think the third season will be a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality," the series' creator Mike White said in the aftershow of the season two finale. "It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus."

Q, a 26-year-old drag queen from Kansas City, Missouri who has competed in RuPaul's Drag Race, is bravely opening up about her HIV-positive diagnosis. Sharing her emotional journey, Q advocated for hiring more queer people in the healthcare sector.

In a video obtained by People from the show's season 16 episode, Q remarked, "I am doing something very sentimental for the runway today. It’s inspired by the generation of gay people that we lost to the AIDS epidemic in the ’80s. So it’s really, really special to me."

Q revealed the challenges she faced after receiving the diagnosis, struggling with feelings of being lost and alone. "When I first got my diagnosis I felt really lost and I felt, like, super alone," she said. "I tested positive when I was 24. I was mostly scared about how I was going to be treated by family and people around me who don’t understand it because it is so stigmatised."

"You know, people have said really awful and nasty things to me and almost de-humanising me," she recalled.

Reflecting on the importance of having understanding and compassionate healthcare providers, Q emphasised the need for more queer people in healthcare. "It’s crazy how much people with HIV have to deal with. I’ve been treated differently by like, health care providers," she added. "I think it’s so important to have queer people in health care. You really feel that difference in care between those providers."

To which, drag queen Plane Jane replied, "Do you hear that gay people? Stop doing drag and start going to medical school!"

Jennifer Lopez has cancelled seven dates of her first North American tour in five years, in support of her new album “This Is Me… Now” and its companion films. The dates spanning August 20-31 in Cleveland, Nashville, Raleigh, Atlanta, Tampa, New Orleans, and Houston were listed as cancelled on Ticketmaster on Wednesday.

The updated itinerary can be found on her social media accounts. While the tour is still scheduled for 30 shows, a large number of tickets on most dates reportedly remain unsold. The blue (available) segments of the seating charts are overwhelmingly larger than the grey (unavailable) ones.

Three shows were added to the itinerary — in Miami, Toronto, and New York — a week after the tour was originally announced. The album, tour, and two films are part of a self-financed $20 million three-part multimedia project examining Lopez’s life as a serial romantic and her reunion with actor Ben Affleck.

The cancellations come after Lopez’s new album debuted at a disappointing No. 38 on the Billboard 200 last month.

No official statement has been released by Lopez, as of now!

The project also includes the musical film, This Is Me…Now: A Love Story, and the documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told. Lopez describes it as a love-conquers-all statement, saying, “Everybody thought I was crazy. And by the way, I thought I was crazy,” according to Variety.

South Korean actor O Yeong-Su, known for his role in the hit series Squid Game, has been handed an eight-month suspended prison sentence for sexual misconduct. The 79-year-old actor was charged in 2022 with sexually assaulting a woman on two occasions.

The assaults occurred in 2017 when O was staying in a rural area for a theatre performance, as reported by the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Court. The court found that O hugged a woman and kissed her on the cheek against her will.

O has announced his intention to appeal the verdict and has seven days to do so. He has also been ordered to attend classes on sexual violence.

Judge Jeong Yeon-ju stated that the victim's accounts were consistent and appeared genuine. O had denied the allegations, claiming they were false. The incident was said to have taken place on a walking path and in front of the victim's residence.

O rose to international fame for his role as Oh Il-nam in Squid Game, a series that gained immense popularity on Netflix, attracting over 100 million viewers worldwide within weeks of its release in 2021. He became the first South Korean actor to win a Golden Globe award the following year.

However, the controversy surrounding the sexual misconduct allegations led to O being dropped from an upcoming film in South Korea.

Womenlink, a prominent feminist organisation, commented on the sentencing shortly after the verdict was announced. A part of the statement read, "Now we can say that sexual violence in the theatre is not an old custom but sexual violence. The accused must stop trying to make his assault go away, apologize to the victim, and accept his mistake."

Actor Pierce Brosnan, who pleaded guilty Thursday (Mar 14) to stepping off a trail in a thermal area during a November visit to Yellowstone National Park, was caught after posting pictures online, court records showed.

Brosnan, who called in to the court hearing in Mammoth, Wyoming, was fined $500 and ordered to make a $1,000 donation by April 1 to Yellowstone Forever, a nonprofit organisation that supports the park, court records said. Prosecutors had recommended a $5,000 fine and a two-year probationary sentence.

A second petty offence, for violating closures and use limits, was dismissed by US Magistrate Judge Stephanie Hambrick.

The actor issued an apology on his Instagram account Thursday, saying he “made an impulsive mistake” while calling himself an environmentalist with “the utmost respect for and love of our natural world.”

“I deeply regret my transgression and offer my heartfelt apologies to all for trespassing in this sensitive area. Yellowstone and all our National Parks are to be cared for and preserved for all to enjoy,” Brosnan wrote.

He did not see a “no trespassing” sign when entering the thermal area to take a photo and did not hike in the immediate area, he wrote. Brosnan ended the message with “#StayOnThePath.”

Brosnan, 70, walked in an off-limits area at Mammoth Terraces, in the northern part of Yellowstone near the Wyoming-Montana line, on November 1, according to citations issued by the park.

He was in the park on a personal visit and not for film work, the US Attorney’s Office for Wyoming has said.

However, he uploaded images of himself standing in the snow on the thermal feature to his Instagram page, court records said.

Mammoth Terraces is a scenic spot of mineral-encrusted hot springs bubbling from a hillside. They are just some of the park’s hundreds of thermal features, which range from spouting geysers to gurgling mud pots, with water at or near the boiling point.

Going out-of-bounds in such areas can be dangerous: Some of the millions of people who visit Yellowstone each year get badly burned by ignoring signs warning them not to stray off the trail. Getting caught can bring legal peril, too, with jail time, hefty fines and bans from the park handed down to trespassers regularly.

Brosnan appeared in four James Bond films, starred in the 1980s TV series Remington Steele and is known for starring roles in the films Mrs Doubtfire and The Thomas Crown Affair.

After hosting the 2024 Oscars, Jimmy Kimmel sat down for an interview with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos to discuss some of the evening's most memorable moments. One of the highlights was Kimmel's decision to read out Donald Trump's scathing review of the show, posted on Truth Social.

Trump's post criticised Kimmel's hosting and the show's perceived political correctness. “Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars,” Trump posted. “His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be…Also a really bad politically correct show tonight, and for years – Disjointed, boring, and very unfair. Why don’t they just give the Oscars to those that deserve them. Maybe that way their audience and TV ratings will come back from the depths. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Kimmel responded on stage by jokingly thanking Trump for watching and quipping, “Blah, blah, blah … OK, now, see if you can guess which former president just posted that on Truth Social. Anyone? No? Well, thank you, President Trump. Thank you for watching, I’m surprised you’re still — isn’t it past your jail time?”

Kimmel revealed that producers advised him against reading Trump's post, but he decided to do it anyway. He recounted, "They’re like, ‘You’ve got a little bit of time’ and I was like, ‘I’m reading the Trump tweet,’ and they’re like, ‘No, no, don’t read that.' [I was like] ‘Yes I am.’”

Regarding Al Pacino's awkward announcement of the best picture award to Oppenheimer, Kimmel joked, "I guess he’s never watched an awards show before." For those unaware, instead of reading the nominees Pacino simply opened the envelope and said, “And my eyes see ‘Oppenheimer’."

MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Kimmel responded on stage by jokingly thanking Trump for watching and quipping, “Blah, blah, blah … OK, now, see if you can guess which former president just posted that on Truth Social. Anyone? No? Well, thank you, President Trump. Thank you for watching, I’m surprised you’re still — isn’t it past your jail time?” Kimmel revealed that producers advised him against reading Trump's post, but he decided to do it anyway. He recounted, "They’re like, ‘You’ve got a little bit of time’ and I was like, ‘I’m reading the Trump tweet,’ and they’re like, ‘No, no, don’t read that.' [I was like] ‘Yes I am.’” Also read: Karan Johar defends praising Animal, says ‘I saw it as a character film’ Regarding Al Pacino's awkward announcement of the best picture award to Oppenheimer, Kimmel joked, "I guess he’s never watched an awards show before." For those unaware, instead of reading the nominees Pacino simply opened the envelope and said, “And my eyes see ‘Oppenheimer’." Oppenheimer was the biggest winner of the night, taking home seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director for Christopher Nolan.

Filmmaker Karan Johar reiterated his admiration for Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film Animal at the Forbes India Leadership Awards 2024, calling it the best film of 2023. Johar specifically lauded the "treatment" of the film.

Addressing the ongoing debate surrounding Animal, Johar acknowledged the differing opinions and controversies surrounding the film's portrayal of violence, masculinity, and misogyny. While some, including celebrities like Javed Akhtar and Konkona Sen Sharma, criticised the film's content, Johar focussed on its narrative and storytelling techniques.

Johar explained, "I saw it as a character film based on a character who was deeply dysfunctional, inherently violent, who had many emotional issues - and I loved the treatment." He praised the film's sound design, screenplay, dialogue, and character development, highlighting his appreciation for the filmmaker's storytelling approach.

"I didn't go deep into the moral communication of the film - I was so swept by the narrative and the way the filmmaker told the story of it through sound design, screenplay, dialogue, character development, that as a filmmaker, I loved it," he added.

Prior to Johar's comments, actress Bhumi Pednekar also shared her views on Animal, expressing her preference for genres other than hyper-masculine films. Despite not enjoying such films, Pednekar emphasised the importance of a filmmaker's self-expression and the audience's ability to learn from it.

Bhumi told The Lallantop, "I watched Animal. Par mujhe hyper-masculine films maja hi nahi aata. Aur ye abhi se nahi, bohat pehle se hai.. Hollywood ki bhi action films hain na...mujhe na rom-com, agar mera genre pooche, mujhe woh films zyada pasand aati hai ( I don't like watching hyper-masculine films, and it's not for now, earlier also I never enjoyed those kind of films. Even in Hollywood, the action films... I like watching rom-coms)."

Emma Stone's triumph at the Oscars 2024 turned into a moment of unexpected drama when her elegant Louis Vuitton gown suffered a wardrobe malfunction. The mishap occurred as Stone ascended the stage to accept her second Academy Award for Best Actress, this time for her role in Poor Things.

Stone, visibly stunned by her win, struggled with her mint green custom gown, which had split open from the back. Despite the mishap, Stone managed the situation with grace, even joking about it during her acceptance speech.

“Oh boy, my dress is broken,” she said to the cameras. “I think it happened during ‘I’m Just Ken.’ I’m pretty sure,” the actress added during her acceptance speech.

Stone later explained to reporters in the pressroom that the mishap seemingly occurred during Ryan Gosling's performance of the best-original-song nominee "I’m Just Ken." She was so captivated by Gosling's performance that she leaned forward to sing into the microphone, inadvertently causing the wardrobe malfunction.

The issue was quickly resolved backstage, with Stone expressing her gratitude for the seamstress who swiftly repaired the dress. In the post-show pressroom, Stone further elaborated on how her dress was fixed, saying, "They sewed me back in, right when I came back, it was wonderful. I genuinely do think I busted it during 'I’m Just Ken.' I was so amazed by Ryan and what he was doing, and that number just blew my mind, and I was right there and I was going for it, and things happened."

What were Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell made for? Winning awards, apparently. The sibling duo’s Barbie blockbuster ballad “What Was I Made For?” won the Academy Award for best original song on Sunday night.

In doing so, Eilish, 22, has become the youngest person by far to have won two career Oscars. That beats a very old record set by Luise Rainer, who won her second best actress Oscar at 28 in 1938.

The second youngest is now Eilish’s 26-year-old brother and co-writer Finneas. The pair won their first Oscar for “No Time to Die” in 2021. That year, they beat out some impressive names, including Beyoncé, Van Morrison, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Diane Warren.

Hilary Swank and Jodie Foster — a best supporting actor nominee this year — are the only others to win two before 30.

“Thank you so much to the Academy. I feel like, I just didn’t think this would happen,” Eilish started her speech. “I’m so grateful for this song and for this movie and the way that it made me feel. And this goes out to everyone who was affected by the movie and how incredible it is. And I want to thank my team and my parents. I love you guys so much.”

She continued, “I want to thank my best friend Zoe for playing Barbies with me growing up, and being by my side forever,” and was met with laughs from the audience. “I want to thank my, like, dance teachers growing up. I want to thank my choir teachers. Miss Brigham, thanks for believing in me. Mrs. T, you didn’t like me, but you were good at your job.”

Eilish and Finneas beat out another Barbie cut, “I’m Just Ken,” as performed by Ryan Gosling and written by “Barbie the Album” executive producer Mark Ronson and his creative partner Andrew Wyatt. Jon Batiste and Dan Wilson’s “It Never Went Away” from American Symphony, Warren’s “The Fire Inside” from Flamin’ Hot and Scott George’s “Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)” from Killers of the Flower Moon rounded out the category.

Eilish and O’Connell are no strangers to the Oscar stage. In addition to taking home the trophy for their James Bond theme “No Time to Die,” they performed during the in-memoriam segment in 2020.

In the months leading up to the Academy Awards, “What Was I Made For?” has raked in numerous trophies: In 2024 alone, they’ve won a Golden Globe for best original song and two Grammys. Not bad for a song written about an 11.5-inch-tall plastic doll.

“What Was I Made For?” debuted at No. 34 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, eventually peaking at No. 14.

In the Barbie film, “What Was I Made For?” plays a key role — an instrumental version of the song pops up like a leitmotif, soundtracking introspective, existential moments for its protagonist. Eilish’s voice isn’t heard until the final scene, but at that point, the audience is well-prepared for its emotional impact.

Clearly, the duo excel at making music for movies. Before Barbie and Bond, three songs they wrote made it on Disney’s “Turning Red” soundtrack, pulling heavily from the likes of (asterisk)NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys.

In another music category, Ludwig Göransson won the Academy Award for original score for his work on Oppenheimer. It is his second Oscar and third nomination, having previously won in the category in 2019 for Black Panther.

In doing so, Göransson beat John Williams (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) and three first-time nominees, Jerskin Fendrix (Poor Things) Laura Karpman (American Fiction) and the late Robbie Robertson (Killers of the Flower Moon).

Oppenheimer is director Christopher Nolan’s own adaptation of Martin J. Sherwin and Kai Bird’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 2005 book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, chronicling the Manhattan Project and its fallout.

“Christopher Nolan, it was your idea to use violin in the score, and it allowed me to work and collaborate with my wonderful wife and acclaimed violinist Serena Göransson. We (were) recording at night and we were rushing to go home to put our kids, Apollo, Romeo, to bed. But the result of that was amazing,” he said in his speech.

“And to my parents up there, thank you for giving me guitars and drum machines instead of video games. Thank you,” he concluded.

The film starring Cillian Murphy “is poised between the shock and aftershock of the terrible revelation, as one character calls it, of a divine power,” AP Film Writer Jake Coyle assessed in his review. Naturally, the score accomplishes something similar: Göransson composing from a first-person perspective for the first time, using his characteristic plays with rhythm and tempo to make one man’s history-altering endeavours feel larger than life.

“To be recognised on this score especially, it was a very personal score,” Göransson told The Associated Press when the nominations were announced in January. “It was also obviously extremely challenging to achieve these emotions and to tell the story of this complicated man’s feelings, his ambition and what he’s going through in his journey and from his perspective because the only way to do that is, I’ve had to go to some to some uncomfortable places.”

He added that “the way that Chris Nolan uses music in his storytelling is so unique and special and inspiring.”

“So, give all the music awards to Nolan and his collaborators,” he said. “I’m just very grateful to be working with him, and this is our second film together.”

Their first film together was the 2020 time-bending thriller Tenet.

“It was also obviously extremely challenging to achieve these emotions and to tell the story of this complicated man’s feelings, his ambition and what he’s going through in his journey and from his perspective because the only way to do that is, I’ve had to go to some to some uncomfortable places.” He added that “the way that Chris Nolan uses music in his storytelling is so unique and special and inspiring.” “So, give all the music awards to Nolan and his collaborators,” he said. “I’m just very grateful to be working with him, and this is our second film together.” Their first film together was the 2020 time-bending thriller Tenet.

Did you know Billie Eilish is the youngest artist with 2 Oscar wins?

The night before the Oscars isn’t a time to rest in Hollywood. For quite a few nominees, including Barbie star Margot Robbie, it meant a stop at the historic Beverly Hills Hotel for the 15th annual Chanel and Charles Finch pre-Oscar dinner.

Robbie was in very good company, with other Oscar nominees including best supporting actress frontrunner Da’Vine Joy Randolph, as well as America Ferrera, Sandra Hüller, Justine Triet, Cord Jefferson, Jonathan Glazer and Celine Song, who all are expected at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday evening.

They packed into the picturesque patio of the storied Polo Lounge for cocktails before the private dinner on a clear, chilly night in Beverly Hills. Robert De Niro was among the earliest arrivals, but within no time the space was full of stars.

Kristen Stewart and her finance Dylan Meyer chatted with Daniel Kaluuya near a well-placed heat lamp, while Chloë Sevigny surveyed the room a few feet away. Elsewhere Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann found an elusive seat to sip their drinks, though Apatow leapt to his feat when JR came around to say hello.

Triet and her Anatomy of a Fall star Hüller stayed close together, John Mulaney and Olivia Munn conversed with David O. Russell, while Adrien Brody and Patrick Dempsey chatted in another corner and Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos made the rounds.

Others in the crowd included Usher (a self-proclaimed Oppenheimer fan who also was wearing chaps), Ava DuVernay, Michael Keaton, Molly Sims, Maya Rudolph, Tessa Thompson, James Marsden, Kerry Washington, Rebecca Hall and Dominic Sessa

The event started somewhat humbly. Finch said 30 years ago he started hosting it because his friends “didn’t have anywhere to go the night before the Oscars.” It evolved to be one of the hottest tickets in town and 15 years ago Chanel joined in as a partner, bringing in even more star power with brand ambassadors like Stewart, Robbie, Lily-Rose Depp and Phoebe Tonkin.

“I’m terrified of giving dinners,” Finch said. “I seem like I’m really social, and I do it, but actually, it makes me really nervous.”

Robbie, Oscar-nominated as a producer on Barbie, was in good spirits before the big day. In addition to her red carpet looks, she utilised Chanel in the film too, with clothes, accessories and bags for her “stereotypical Barbie.”

“It just kind of serviced the moment and the story so it never felt forced or out of place. It felt very Barbie,” Robbie said. “We got to also recreate some looks I love, one worn by Claudia Schiffer, who’s just a great reference for Barbie in general. It was really fun.”

She also said she’s looking forward to cheering on Billie Eilish and Ryan Gosling, who are both performing nominated original songs live on the show on Sunday, which begins an hour earlier than usual at 7 p.m. EDT.

“I’m so excited,” Robbie said. “I think it’s going to be amazing.”

“We call it ‘Everyone Wins’ and we do this independently of the Academy, which means I get to decide who gets it and it's only the top acting and directing nominees," Fary told Reuters.

In addition to the extravagant trip, the gift bags include a variety of other items ranging from beauty products and gourmet popcorn to sleep aid products and a Rubik's Cube.

Oscars 2024: Behind-the-scene pics you should not miss

Hayao Miyazaki, the legendary Japanese filmmaker whose anime classics have enchanted fans around the world for decades, has won his second career Oscar. At 83, Miyazaki won for helming the best-animated film, The Boy and the Heron, the long-awaited fantasy from the director of Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki’s Delivery Service.

He is the oldest director ever nominated for the category and the oldest winner by more than two decades — adding to a big year in Hollywood for older filmmakers.

Hailed as one of the best films of 2023, The Boy and The Heron beat its top rival in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, as well as Elemental, Nimona, and Robot Dreams.

It’s only the second hand-drawn animation winner in this category. The first, 21 years ago, was Miyazaki’s Spirited Away — his first-ever Oscar.

Sunday’s win for Miyazaki and producer Toshio Suzuki caps off a solid awards season run for the film, which won the top honour for an animated feature at the Golden Globes and the BAFTA Film Awards.

They were not present at the awards, but Studio Ghibli’s Kiyofumi Nakajima read a statement backstage from Suzuki.

“Both Hayao Miyazaki and I have aged considerably,” he said through a translator. “I am grateful to receive such an honour at my age, and taking this as a message to continue our work, I will devote myself to work harder in the future.”

It was Miyazaki’s fourth Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature — tying with Pixar’s Pete Docter for the most nods in that category.

Miyazaki began work on The Boy and the Heron not long after announcing in 2013 that he intended to retire from film — again.

In journal excerpts from around that time released in the film’s press notes, Miyazaki writes: “There’s nothing more pathetic than telling the world you’ll retire because of your age, then making yet another comeback.

“Doesn’t an elderly person deluding themself that they’re still capable, despite their geriatric forgetfulness, prove that they’re past their best?” he adds. “You bet it does.”

Miyazaki worked through those concerns, and the resulting film earned him not only his second Oscar win on Sunday night, but his first No. 1 feature at the North American box office.

The Boy and the Heron follows a boy named Mahito Maki who moves to the countryside after his mother’s death. There, he is lured by a mysterious heron into a secluded tower, a portal that transports him to a fantastical realm amid his grief.

The film was a decade in the making. In the age of CGI and artificial intelligence, Miyazaki has stuck to the lengthy process of hand-drawing his animations.

When he received an honorary Oscar in 2014 celebrating his artistry and storytelling, he expressed gratitude for the art of drawing.

“My wife tells me that I’m a very lucky man,” Miyazaki said in his acceptance speech through a translator. “And I think I’ve been lucky because I’ve been able to participate in the last era when we can make films with paper, pencil and film.”

The 2024 Oscar Awards is just a few hours away! Soon we will get to know who will bag the golden statuette for the Best Picture category. Before the big announcement, let's take a deep dive into why Poor Things stands out as a cinematic masterpiece that pushes the boundaries of storytelling and filmmaking.

Best Picture nominee Poor Things has captivated audiences and critics alike, earning 11 nominations at the 2024 Oscars. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and starring Emma Stone, the film is a darkly comedic and bizarre exploration of womanhood and self-discovery.

Set in a surreal world where the dead can be brought back to life, Poor Things explores themes of identity, independence, and sexuality in a delightfully bizarre manner. The film is unlike anything you would've ever seen before.

One of the key elements that sets Poor Things apart is its unique visual style. Lanthimos, known for his distinctive aesthetic, creates a world that is both familiar and unsettling. The film's cinematography, by longtime Lanthimos collaborator Thimios Bakatakis, is striking, with each frame carefully composed to enhance the film's surreal atmosphere.

Another standout aspect of Poor Things is its stellar cast. Emma Stone delivers a mesmerising performance as Belle Baxter, a woman who is brought back to life by a brilliant but eccentric surgeon named Godwin Baxter (played by Willem Dafoe). The supporting cast, including Mark Ruffalo, Christopher Abbott, Margaret Qualley, and Ramy Youssef, also deliver standout performances, bringing depth and complexity to their characters.

But perhaps the most compelling aspect of Poor Things is its storytelling. Adapted from the 1992 novel by Alasdair Gray, the film weaves together multiple narrative threads to create a rich tapestry of themes and ideas.

Lanthimos, known for his distinctive aesthetic, creates a world that is both familiar and unsettling. The film's cinematography, by longtime Lanthimos collaborator Thimios Bakatakis, is striking, with each frame carefully composed to enhance the film's surreal atmosphere. Also read: Oscar nominees to receive lavish gift bags worth $178,000. Know what's inside it Another standout aspect of Poor Things is its stellar cast. Oscar Awards 2024 Best Picture Nominee: What makes Poor Things a cinematic masterpiece?

American rapper and singer Doja Cat has announced that she is taking a break from Instagram, citing how she's been treated on the platform. The Grammy winner expressed her feelings in a now-deleted post, stating that the way she's spoken to and treated on Instagram has led to "fu***d up thoughts".

"Hey, I’m gonna deactivate because I’m not really feeling this anymore," wrote Doja. "The way I'm spoken to on here and treated makes me have fu***d up thoughts. Please watch how you talk to and about people on the internet."

In her post, Doja, also known as Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, mentioned that she comes to the platform to find inspiration and see creativity but feels that the negativity has become too much to handle.

"You guys take care of yourselves. I like coming here to find inspo and see people being creative, but I just feel like this is getting to be too much," she wrote.

With 24.4 million followers, the singer is known for her hit songs like "Say So" and "Woman."

Reacting to Doja's now-deleted post, a fan wrote on X, "I hope she's okay. We all love her." Another wrote, "I hope she gets back soon." Some netizens even lashed out at her for her past actions. One user shared, "Well she did defend her predator boyfriend's actions so..." Another wrote, "She wasn't saying that when she told her fans she didn't love them haha."

This isn't the first time the rapper has had a bad experience on social media. Back in July 2023, Doja took jabs at her fan base, specifically several fan accounts that go by "Kittenz".

Rejecting her fan base moniker, she said, "My fans don’t name themselves s**t. If you call yourself a ‘kitten’ or f–king ‘kittenz’ that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house."

This led some of Doja's big fan pages — like the Kittens Room, Doja HQ, and Doja Cat News — to instantly shut their X, formerly Twitter, accounts.

As the 96th Oscars ceremony approaches, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is gearing up for potential protests surrounding the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. With concerns over disruptions to the prestigious event, the LAPD has announced plans to increase its presence to ensure the safety of guests and the smooth running of the awards show.

According to reports in The New York Times, the LAPD has received intelligence suggesting that at least one group intends to disrupt the Academy Awards. This information was gleaned in part from social media posts. In response, the LAPD is taking proactive measures to address any potential disruptions.

Commander Randy Goddard of the LAPD stated, "It’s going to be our goal to ensure that the Academy Awards is successful, that guests can arrive safely and get into the venue." He further emphasised the department's commitment to respecting protesters' First Amendment rights while maintaining order and safety.

While some groups may attempt to block traffic or employ other disruptive tactics, others may choose to protest in the vicinity of the Dolby Theater, where the Oscars will be held. The LAPD has indicated that it will deploy additional resources to facilitate peaceful protests, but will not tolerate any actions that break the law or jeopardise the safety of guests.

"We’re hopefully going to find that middle ground. My objective is to get the guests safely inside that venue," Commander Goddard added.

The Dolby Theater, where the Oscars will take place, has been secured by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with railings, fencing, checkpoints, and nearly 2,000 private security guards.

The political climate surrounding the Oscars is further heightened by the war in Ukraine, which is expected to be on the minds of some attendees. The documentary favourite, 20 Days in Mariupol by journalist filmmaker Mstyslav Chernov, is likely to bring the conflict into focus for many.

The LAPD's preparations come in the wake of a recent protest outside Crypto.com Arena during the Grammys, where pro-Palestinian demonstrators blocked traffic in the drop-off area.

Despite these potential challenges, the Oscars are set to proceed as planned, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. A star-studded lineup of presenters, including Zendaya, Al Pacino, Jennifer Lawrence, Michelle Yeoh, and many others, is expected to grace the stage.

Oscars 2024: LAPD prepares for potential protests over Israel-Hamas conflict

A Vermont man on Friday pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of negligent driving with death resulting in the June crash that killed actor Treat Williams. Ryan Koss, 35, who knew Williams, was given a one-year deferred sentence and as part of his probation will have his driving license revoked for a year and must complete a community restorative justice program on the misdemeanor charge.

Koss was turning left into a parking lot in a Honda SUV on June 12 when he collided with Williams’ oncoming motorcycle in Dorset, police said. Williams, 71, of Manchester Center, who was wearing a helmet, suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

After the crash, Koss called Williams’ wife to tell her what happened, said Bennington County State’s Attorney Erica Marthage, who said Koss from the beginning had taken responsibility for the accident.

In the emotional hearing on Friday, Koss apologized and offered condolences to Williams’ family and fans. The managing creative director of the Dorset Theatre Festival in Vermont knew Williams for years as a member of the tight-knit community, as well as a fellow theatre member, and considered him a friend.

“I’m here to apologize and take responsibility for this tragic accident,” he told the court.

Williams’ son Gill, 32, wore his father’s jacket and spoke directly to Koss, whom he had met before the crash. The family did not want to press charges or have Koss go to prison, he said.

“I do forgive you, and I hope that you forgive yourself,” he said. But he also added, “I really wish you hadn’t killed my father. I really had to say that.”

Gill Williams said his father was “everything” to their family and an extraordinary person who lived life to the fullest, and it’s now hard to figure out how to go forward.

His father had given him the motorcycle the day before the crash, and he was “the safest person in the world,” Gill Williams said.

“It’s very difficult to have this happen based on someone’s negligence,” he said, urging people to take driving a lot more seriously and to look out for motorcycles. Statements from Williams’ wife, Pam, and his daughter, who both did not attend the court hearing, were read aloud.

Pam Williams said in her statement that it was a tragic accident and that she hoped Koss could forgive himself.

“Our lives will never be the same, our family has been torn apart and there is a huge hole that can’t possibly be filled,” Pam Williams wrote in her statement.

Daughter Ellie Williams wrote in her statement that she was too angry and hurt at this time to forgive Koss but hopes she will in the future.

“I will never get to feel my father’s hug again; be able to get his advice again, introduce him to my future husband, have him walk me down the aisle, introduce him to my babies, and have him cry when I name my first son after him,” a victim’s advocate said in reading her statement.

Koss originally pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of gross negligent operation with death resulting. If he had been convicted of that charge, he could have been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.

Richard Treat Williams’ nearly 50-year career included starring roles in the TV series “Everwood” and the movie “Hair.” He appeared in more than 120 TV and film roles, including the movies “The Eagle Has Landed,” “Prince of the City” and “Once Upon a Time in America.”

About Miss World Pageant

The roots of the Miss World pageant trace back to a bikini contest held by Eric Morley as a part of the Festival of Britain in 1951. Originally known as the Festival Bikini Contest, the event gained widespread attention from the British press, leading to its rebranding as “Miss World”. The inaugural competition saw Kerstin “Kiki” Hakansson from Sweden crowned as the first-ever Miss World.

Despite its initial controversy over the bikini round, the Miss World pageant continued to grow in popularity, with the BBC airing the competition starting in 1959. The event became one of the most-watched annual programs throughout the 1960s and 70s, solidifying its status as one of the Big Four beauty pageants alongside Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss Earth.
