Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke on Thursday (Sep 3) challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he will show his degree from Boston University if he reveals he did the same. This comes amid controversy surrounding the qualifications of Dipke, who is facing allegations of faking his education in the US.In a post on X, Dipke wrote that people had grown impatient waiting to see his own degree, adding, “Makes me wonder how they’ve managed for 12 years without seeing the Prime Minister’s.” He followed with a direct challenge: “let’s both show our degrees and put an end to this.”This comes after Dipke circulated a video compilation, reportedly from an account called “BUComGrad,” showing what appeared to be an afterparty where he is seen seated at a table talking with others.
Podcaster sparks fresh controversy
The renewed scrutiny traces back to a podcast hosted by Prakhar Gupta featuring activist Sonam Wangchuk, in which Gupta relayed a friend’s claims about investigating Dipke’s Boston University record. According to Gupta, the friend “has gone down the rabbit hole of checking Abhijeet’s educational credentials and found that there is no record of him graduating from Boston University.”Dipke also questioned a Delhi High Court decision not to disclose Modi’s degree, writing that “anyone who doesn’t show their degree is apparently a fraud and a liar,” according to his post.
Older allegations resurface
Earlier, RTI activist Amit Tiwari had questioned how Dipke’s family funded his US education given his father’s government salary. Dipke has addressed this before, telling journalist Barkha Dutt that his studies were “funded by a scholarship provided by Boston University,” alongside an education loan, and produced a scholarship letter as evidence.CJP spokesperson Vaishnavi Gaur dismissed the renewed RTI scrutiny as selective, contrasting it with calls for transparency around the PM CARES Fund.“Those who file RTIs into a private individual’s education expenses should also take a look at the PM CARES Fund too. Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which went viral with its political satire movement that led to the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan from the role of Union Education Minister, is now facing a challenge from a new party, ‘Cockroach Janta Party - Democratic’. The new party has been founded by activist Manish Brahmbhatt, who has accused the original CJP of being “sold out and politicised” following the success of its Jantar Mantar protest. Brahmbhatt has claimed that the CJP has now become ‘Team Kejriwal’, referring to Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal.
Why was CJP-Democratic formed?
Brahmbhatt’s main objection centres on the way CJP selected its new wider team last month. While the original outfit has decided against entering electoral politics and instead plans to operate as a pressure group, it is currently pushing its nationwide ‘School Thik Karo’ campaign.Brahmbhatt alleged that volunteers and protesters were not consulted before the new committee was formed. He further claimed that several members of the team had links to the Aam Aadmi Party.“It has now become ‘Team Kejriwal’ because Abhijeet Dipke and the others formed a 12-member team while sitting in the comfort of their homes,” he said.“After the movement’s success, not a single volunteer or protester was invited or consulted for their opinion. Nor were the people connected via social media or Instagram asked about the necessary criteria; instead, they formed the team by including eight people associated with the Aam Aadmi Party, along with a female friend and college friends,” he added.
Demand for wider volunteer representation
Brahmbhatt said volunteers had proposed a national structure with five representatives from every state, including people involved in protests and grassroots activities. He alleged that the proposal was rejected and accused the original leadership of creating the committee through an “arbitrary” process rather than consulting its wider volunteer base.“The idea behind forming this team also originated with Arvind Kejriwal, as he has been deceitful from the very beginning,” he alleged. The original CJP is led by national convenor Abhijeet Dipke, with Saurav Das and Ashutosh Rana serving as co-conveners and Aafreen Nawaz as national secretary.

‘CJP sold out and politicised’? New ‘Cockroach Janta Party-Democratic’ challenges Abhijeet Dipke

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Sunday called on the Centre to fulfil the commitments it allegedly made to the pressure group to bring its protest at Jantar Mantar to an end. The online outfit-turned-pressure group accused the government of betraying the country’s youth and breaking their trust after the protest was withdrawn on the assurance that its key demands would be addressed. "We will not allow the government to insult an entire generation by making promises to end a peaceful movement and then attempting to wriggle out of those very promises once the streets have emptied. A commitment made to the youth of India must be honoured both, in letter and in spirit," the CJP wrote in an official statement.
Government yet to provide list of FIRs to court
The CJP alleged that despite repeated requests from the court regarding FIRs registered against student protesters and their proposed quashing, the government has not yet provided the required list. "The Union Government did not commit to providing it. At the press conference immediately thereafter, CJP Co-Convener Saurav Das and Legal Affairs Lead Ratna Singh warned that the government appears to be attempting to cheat the young generation of this country after securing the withdrawal of our agitation on the basis of solemn commitments at the joint PC," the statement said. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has threatened to resume nationwide protests after the Supreme Court allowed investigations into FIRs filed during the anti-exam paper leak agitation to continue. While the court directed authorities not to take coercive action against eligible student protesters and ordered the preservation of CCTV footage and electronic evidence, it did not order the withdrawal of existing cases.

CJP leaders allege that the interim order contradicts assurances given by the central government during negotiations that led to the suspension of protests. Founder Abhijeet Dipke accused authorities of targeting students, while party spokesperson Saurav Das warned of fresh nationwide demonstrations if the government's commitments are not honored. Meanwhile, several states have begun withdrawing cases against eligible student protesters.

The resignation of India's Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is not merely the fall of a cabinet minister. It is the culmination of one of the most significant student-led movements India has witnessed in recent years, a reminder that when young voices unite around a common cause, even the most powerful governments are compelled to listen. For decades, India's students have carried the weight of a fiercely competitive education system. Every year, millions prepare for examinations that often determine the course of their lives. They accept sleepless nights, financial sacrifices and immense psychological pressure because they believe the system, though imperfect, rewards merit. That belief was shaken when allegations of irregularities surrounding the NEET examination surfaced. For nearly two million medical aspirants, the controversy was never just about a paper leak. It was about trust. Students questioned whether years of hard work could be undone by corruption, negligence or administrative failure. It was this loss of faith, not just the examination itself, that ignited protests across the country. The government responded with investigations, a fresh examination and promises of reforms. Yet, for thousands of students, those steps did not answer the fundamental question: who would be held accountable? The answer, they believed, could not simply be another committee. It had to begin at the top. That sentiment found an unlikely face in Abhijeet Dipke and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a movement that started as internet satire before transforming into one of India's most influential youth campaigns. The name itself sounded absurd. It was supposed to. Instead of rejecting the label of 'cockroach', a symbol many protesters felt represented how unemployed youth and students were being treated, the movement embraced it. What began as memes and viral videos soon evolved into organised demonstrations, attracting students, job aspirants and young professionals who saw the NEET controversy as part of a much larger crisis. The movement reached its defining moment at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. Unlike many protests driven by political parties, this one was largely fuelled by young Indians themselves. Medical aspirants stood alongside engineering graduates, UPSC candidates and unemployed youth. Their demands extended beyond cancelling examinations or punishing paper leak rackets. They demanded accountability. They demanded transparency. Most importantly, they demanded that someone in authority accept responsibility. That persistence ultimately changed the political conversation. For weeks, the government maintained that corrective measures were already underway. But the protests refused to lose momentum. Social media amplified every speech, every march and every gathering, turning what initially appeared to be an online campaign into a nationwide movement. In an era where many dismiss online activism as mere 'hashtag politics', the students demonstrated that digital mobilisation can become real political pressure when combined with organisation and sustained public participation. Eventually, Dharmendra Pradhan resigned. Whether one believes the resignation was politically inevitable or morally necessary is open to debate. What is beyond debate is the precedent it establishes. Education is no longer a peripheral political issue. The resignation signals that failures affecting students can carry real political consequences. It reminds governments that educational institutions are not merely administrative departments but the foundation of public trust. The larger lesson, however, belongs not to politicians but to students. For years, young Indians have often been described as politically disengaged, more interested in reels than rallies, influencers than institutions. The events surrounding NEET challenge that stereotype completely. This generation organised without traditional political machinery. They built communities online, mobilised offline and sustained a movement despite criticism, fatigue and uncertainty. They proved that democracy does not begin or end at the ballot box. It also lives in peaceful protest, collective action and the courage to question authority. None of this means India's education crisis has been solved. Paper leaks remain a recurring challenge. Coaching culture continues to dominate competitive examinations. Mental health concerns among students are growing, while opportunities remain limited despite rising aspirations. Changing one minister cannot fix structural problems that have developed over decades. But every meaningful reform begins with accountability. If the NEET protests have achieved anything beyond a resignation, it is restoring the belief that citizens, particularly young citizens, can influence public policy when they refuse to be ignored. That may ultimately become the movement's greatest legacy.History will remember the slogans, the crowds at Jantar Mantar and the memes that fuelled a nationwide campaign. But more importantly, it will remember that thousands of students stood together and reminded India's democracy of one simple truth: Power ultimately belongs to the people. This time, the students proved it. Disclaimer: The views of the writer do not represent the views of WION or ZMCL. Nor does WION or ZMCL endorse the views of the writer.

That may ultimately become the movement's greatest legacy. History will remember the slogans, the crowds at Jantar Mantar and the memes that fuelled a nationwide campaign.

‘Don’t come to Delhi airport’: CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke’s message before arriving in India

Days ahead of his scheduled return to India, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has triggered a fresh round of online speculation with a cryptic post on social media platform X on Monday. The post shared by Abhijeet Dipke read, "Please note. An eminent personality will be joining the Cockroach movement today. Stay tuned." The announcement indicated no further details, hints, or names, but it was enough to spark widespread curiosity among social media users. The post quickly drew responses from users attempting to identify the mystery figure, with suggestions ranging across politics, activism, academia, entertainment, and social media.

Please note. https://t.co/JIwRQaPanY— Abhijeet Dipke (@abhijeet_dipke) June 2, 2026

In a recent interview with PTI, Dipke said he is expected to return to India on June 6 and plans to launch a peaceful protest demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over issues related to examinations. Dipke has repeatedly asserted that the movement is independent and does not have links to any political party. Also read: ‘1.5mn hits in 2 minutes, 1 lakh file access attempts’: CBSE re-evaluation portal faces massive cyberattack
Who could join Cockroach movement?
As Dipke refrained from revealing any details about the identity of the "eminent personality," social media users quickly began speculating in the comments section. Among the most commonly suggested names was Arvind Kejriwal. These speculations came as some users pointed to Dipke's past connection with the Aam Aadmi Party and theorised that a senior figure from the party could extend support to the movement. Others pointed to Anna Hazare, arguing that the veteran activist's history of anti-corruption and governance-related campaigns has resonated strongly with young people over the years. Several users also mentioned Dhruv Rathee, whose content on public policy, education and politics attracts a large youth audience online. Some felt his participation would fit naturally with the movement's strong digital presence. The name of Rahul Gandhi surfaced repeatedly as well, although most users offered little evidence beyond the possibility that an opposition leader could back a campaign centred on education-related concerns. CJP founder returning to India? Abhijeet Dipke says will protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar – Here’s what he said

India has seen political protests, student movements and anti-establishment waves before. But few have looked like the Cockroach Janata Party. The CJP exploded online in May 2026 with memes, AI-generated protest songs, parody manifestos and a flood of “cockroach” imagery. Within days, its Instagram following reportedly crossed 21 million before the account was allegedly hacked — a number larger than the ruling BJP’s online base. More than a million people reportedly signed up to join the party through online forms. For some, it was hilarious internet theatre. For others, it exposed something deeper: growing frustration among India’s youth. The real question is whether CJP is an actual political movement — or simply the internet venting in memes. It is a fever. Fever is a symptom of an underlying disease. It is time to address the fever.
Cockroach Janata Party: The remark that triggered everything
The movement began after remarks attributed to India’s Chief Justice, Surya Kant, during a court hearing. He reportedly compared certain unqualified or jobless entrants in professions like law and journalism to “cockroaches” and “parasites”. The backlash was immediate. The Chief Justice later clarified that his comments were aimed at people with fake degrees, not genuinely unemployed youth. But by then, social media had already transformed the controversy into a viral rebellion. The meme machine had started. The damage was done.https://www.wionews.com/videos/-cockroach-janta-party-overtakes-bjp-in-number-of-followers-on-instagram-1779381079293/embed
Enter Abhijeet Dipke
At the centre of the movement is Abhijeet Dipke, a Boston University student and former political communications strategist who had been earlier associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). After the controversy erupted over the justice's remarks, Dipke posted a simple question on X: “What if all cockroaches come together?”Dipke launched social media handles, a website and online sign-up forms. The branding was intentionally absurd: membership requirements included being unemployed, chronically online, lazy and capable of “professional-level ranting”. Even the name — Cockroach Janata Party — was a parody of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party or BJP.What followed was a perfect storm for internet virality: satire, anger, identity politics and algorithm-friendly content.
The real question: Why did CJP go viral?
CJP tapped into something festering underneath. Millions of young Indians are frustrated with unemployment, rising living costs, exam scandals and shrinking opportunities. Incidents like the NEET-UG 2026 question paper leak intensified distrust in institutions that are supposed to reward merit.India’s youth unemployment rate varies depending on the dataset, but the broader anxiety is undeniable. Millions compete for limited government jobs and entrance exams for higher education and specialist fields. Even small disruptions like leaked papers, delayed results and recruitment scams hit hard, leading to enormous emotional reactions.CJP is exploiting that frustration. That is what every opportunistic political movement does.It converted anger into an internet cultural movement. Instead of ideology or speeches, its supporters used AI videos, parody songs, slogans and humour — instantly shareable content that was emotionally accessible to a generation raised online and spending large amounts of time scrolling.Dipke himself described the movement as a spontaneous satirical reaction, not a structured political organisation.Hold that thought. Because that distinction is contentious.
The crackdown and shifting narratives
As CJP grew, controversy followed. Its X account was allegedly blocked. Dipke moved the Delhi High Court. He claimed the movement’s Instagram account was hacked. Reports also emerged of police deployment outside his family home in India after alleged death threats against him and his relatives. The movement quickly became part of a discussion on censorship, suppression and state pressure.Whether one agrees with CJP or not, the perception of a crackdown often fuels online movements even further. Also read: 'Cockroaches are just getting started': More drama to unfold? CJP addresses speculation over its future
Bots, ‘foreign links’ and political opportunism
The bigger CJP became, the more questions emerged about who was really behind it. Claims circulated that some followers originated from Pakistani IP addresses or bot networks. Dipke denied those allegations vehemently. Meanwhile, opposition politicians from parties like Congress, AAP and Trinamool Congress began openly supporting the CJP trend. Karnataka Youth Congress workers even distributed “I am a cockroach” T-shirts.That created another problem for CJP.The movement initially positioned itself as anti-establishment and critical of the entire political class. But once mainstream parties started embracing it, CJP risked becoming another political tool for them.As has happened in the past, another youth movement could be hijacked and co-opted by mainstream political parties.Questions around Dipke’s own political past added to the scepticism. Was CJP truly organic? Or was it simply smart political branding disguised as rebellion? Is it possible for a single person to suddenly populate the internet with well-designed websites, logos, videos and multiple social media handles? Is Dipke really acting alone? Also read: 'India’s students deserve better': Cockroach Janata Party revives petition targeting Edu Minister Dharmendra Pradhan
Can memes become a movement?
This is where the hype meets reality. CJP has dominated social media timelines, but not the streets.Yes, there are online petitions and viral campaigns. But there are no major rallies nationwide or visible offline structures. No organisation. No leadership network. No policy framework. No electoral roadmap. No ideology. Just some obviously unachievable manifesto items. That is the weakness of many internet movements. Going viral is easy. Building institutions is not.Memes can amplify anger. But they cannot automatically solve unemployment, reform education systems, generate economic growth or reduce the cost of living.Satire can expose frustration. It cannot replace governance.CJP itself embraces irony by calling itself the “Voice of the Lazy & Unemployed”. That branding works online because self-deprecating humour resonates with digital culture. But politics in the real world demands organisation, negotiation and long-term strategy. Definitely not a place for the lazy. The internet rewards outrage and performance. Real politics rewards endurance.
CJP is a symptom, not a solution
CJP is best understood as a symptom of underlying maladies. It reflects the frustrations of a generation dealing with economic uncertainty, hyper-competition in a tech-mediated world, and distrust in institutions. It also reflects the changing nature of protest itself. Young people increasingly express political anger through reels and Reddit rather than traditional street movements. But frustration alone does not create political change. Many anti-establishment youth movements around the world generated massive online excitement before fading once the hashtag trend cycle ended. Without structure, leadership and offline infrastructure, momentum disappears quickly. That does not make CJP meaningless. In fact, its success is a warning sign for mainstream politics, across all parties. Millions of young Indians clearly feel unheard. They are willing to rally around satire because conventional political language no longer connects with them.CJP may not become a real political party. It may never contest elections or build a ground network. But it has already succeeded at one thing: forcing India’s political ecosystem to notice a generation that increasingly communicates from the easy confines of mobile screens.
Entertainment or early warning system?
For now, Cockroach Janata Party remains more internet spectacle than political revolution. It is loud, viral, chaotic and culturally effective. But whether it can survive outside social media feeds is another question. Can the self-identified “cockroaches” organise beyond their device screens? That answer will decide whether CJP becomes a historical footnote — or the first sign of a new kind of political and social unrest. Disclaimer: The views of the writer do not represent the views of WION or ZMCL. Cockroach Janata Party is a fever. Time to prevent the epidemic

The campaign, led by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, accuses the Centre of failing to safeguard the credibility of one of India’s most competitive entrance examinations, taken annually by more than 22 lakh students seeking admission to medical colleges across the country.

‘Sack Education Minister': Cockroach Janata Party launches first major attack, demands Pradhan’s exit over NEET row

As the Cockroach Janta Party has gone viral on social media with millions of followers, another party, Oggy Janata Party, has claimed to expose its AAP links, accusing it of not being “neutral” as it claims to be. This comes as several social media users question Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of CJP, a former AAP worker. Dipke is currently living in the US, further raising questions about whether his satirical movement is a propaganda against the current ruling party of India, Bhartiya Janata Party. In its Instagram bio, the OJP writes, “Not backed by any political party, unlike USA-based ‘CJP’”. It added, “just uncomfortable truths. Question everything. Worship nothing.” The account has gained over 7,000 followers as of Thursday.
What did OJP reveal?
In a post on Instagram, the Oggy Janata Party highlighted Dipke’s APP links, posting screenshots from his LinkedIn account. The 30-year-old political communication strategist worked with the Aam Aadmi Party as part of its social media and election campaign team from 2020 to 2023. During the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, when the party led by Arvind Kejriwal swept to power, Dipke was involved in creating meme-based digital campaigns for the party. The OJP posted screenshots of past social media activity of Dipke, showing his support for AAP. In several of the screenshots, Dipke praised AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. In one of the posts, he expressed gratitude to former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia after meeting him. “Leaving for Boston with your guidance as my compass. No distance will ever weaken my commitment to AAP,” Dipke had written in the caption, posting a picture with Sisodia. The OJP also highlighted that the CJP follows influencer Arpit Sharma on Instagram, whose father, Vikas Sharma, contested in the 2022 UP elections on an AAP ticket. It also questioned why are opposition veteran politicians like Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad joining a youth movement.

OJP’s Manifesto
In a post on Instagram, OJP released its manifesto, which focuses on animal rights. Its manifesto includes: stray animal protection, free animal healthcare, shelter and rescue expansion, strict animal cruelty laws, feed and care missions, and adoption awareness campaign. In separate posts, the OJP also called for justice for the NEET paper leak incident, demanding the resignation of Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan. It also demanded a complete ban on beef slaughter and export. The OJP said it promises to make education degrees compulsory for lawmakers.

Oggy Janata Party emerged online, claiming to expose the Cockroach Janta Party’s alleged AAP links. It shared posts about founder Abhijeet Dipke and released a manifesto focused on animal rights, and also raised other issues.
