The stage is set for a thrilling finale to the fourth season of the Prime Volleyball League, as the Mumbai Meteors take on the Bengaluru Torpedoes on Sunday (October 26) at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium. Ahead of the high-voltage clash, the coaches and captains of both teams joined a virtual press conference, displaying a mix of confidence, mutual respect, and anticipation. Both sides have enjoyed exceptional campaigns this season. The Mumbai Meteors finished at the top of the table, winning six of their seven league matches to collect 17 points. The Bengaluru Torpedoes weren’t far behind, securing five victories from seven outings and ending the league stage in second place with 14 points.&nbsp; The contest promises to be a battle of skill and temperament. Bengaluru’s attacking duo of Joel Benjamin and Jalen Penrose have been in fine form, with Joel registering 103 points this season. Mumbai’s Shubham Chaudhary, who trails just a point behind with 102, will look to continue his strong run, while also contributing defensively as one of the league’s top five blockers alongside Petter Alstad Ostvik. Bengaluru, meanwhile, will rely heavily on Sethu, the league’s best server this season with 11 points, tied with Goa’s Rohit Yadav.<h2>David Lee credits Bengaluru’s culture of resilience</h2>Speaking ahead of the final, Bengaluru Torpedoes’ head coach David Lee praised the team’s mental strength and unity under pressure. “It’s been a bit of a cultural thing for this team. It’s not just this season — it’s been seasons in the past,” Lee said. “Anytime we have our back against the wall, this team finds a way to win. Our core guys like Sethu, Midhun, and Mujeeb have shown that resiliency year after year.”&nbsp;Lee emphasised that the players’ trust in their training has been key to their composure in crunch moments. “For me, it’s not about what I’m really doing. It’s about them trusting their training and knowing that over time, they’ll be good in crucial situations. Hats off to the core group of our team,” he added. Having led Bengaluru to the final in Season 2 (2023), Lee will look to go one better this time and bring the trophy home.<h2>Matt van Wezel lauds Mumbai’s mental strength</h2>Meanwhile, Mumbai Meteors’ head coach Matt van Wezel credited his players for their professionalism and ability to stay grounded ahead of the biggest match of the season. “I don’t know if I help them a lot with that,” van Wezel admitted when asked about keeping his players calm before the final. “We just have really strong heads on the court. I’m impressed by how mentally tough all our players are. I don’t think I have to motivate or push them — they’re doing this themselves.”&nbsp; The Dutch coach, who has consistently spoken about “process over results,” believes the team’s mindset has been the cornerstone of their success. “That’s why we’re so consistent — not because I try to reduce mistakes, but because the players are actually able to do this,” he said.<h2>The calm before the storm</h2>As the two best-performing teams of the season prepare to square off, the final promises to be a fitting conclusion to a competitive season. Bengaluru will look to draw upon their trademark resilience and fighting spirit, while Mumbai will rely on their calm, composed approach that has defined their campaign. For both sides, the 2025 PVL Final is more than just a match — it’s a celebration of teamwork, mental strength, and belief.

Second-bottom West Ham are three points from safety after seven defeats in their first nine top-flight matches this season.

Nuno Espirito Santo slammed West Ham's "unacceptable" display after the winless start to his reign reached four games as Leeds cruised to a 2-1 victory at Elland Road on Friday. Brenden Aaronson and Joe Rodon struck for Leeds in the first 15 minutes, with Mateus Fernandes's late reply coming too late to save the lacklustre Hammers. Second-bottom West Ham are three points from safety after seven defeats in their first nine top-flight matches this season. Nuno has taken one point from a possible 12, with a draw at Everton in his opening match followed by defeats against Arsenal, Brentford and Leeds. West Ham have just four points -- their worst tally at this stage of a top-flight campaign since 1973-74 -- and Nuno said: "It's a simple explanation. We didn't deal with the problems. We didn't deal with many things. "We have to work hard and be much better. I feel the players want to, but they switch off in many moments. "These kind of mistakes are unacceptable in the Premier League. The second half was better but it's not enough after you start so badly and have a mountain to climb. "There is still time. It is our responsibility to get the best out of the players." West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen added: "A dressing room when you're second bottom of the league is low. The only way this will change is if we step up and show some fight. We need more of that. "You have to face up to the reality of where we are and we're in trouble now." Hired to replace the sacked Graham Potter, who was only in charge of the east Londoners for eight months, Nuno has been tasked with ensuring West Ham don't suffer a relegation that would leave them outside the top-flight for the first time since 2011-12. Nuno was sacked by Nottingham Forest in September after the break-down of his relationship with volatile owner Evangelos Marinakis following disagreements over the club's transfer policy. If the Portuguese coach doesn't spark a quick upturn in West Ham's fortunes, he could be in danger of suffering a second dismissal in the space of one season. Leeds' dominant performance laid bare the extent of the problems facing Nuno. In the third minute, Noah Okafor was left unmarked by teenager Oliver Scarles for a header that was parried by Alphonse Areola towards Aaronson, who stabbed home from close-range as West Ham's flat-footed defenders failed to react. It was a shocking goal for West Ham to concede as Lucas Paqueta's sloppy marking allowed Rodon to rise unchecked to meet Sean Longstaff's corner with a thumping header into the far corner from five yards. West Ham have shipped nine goals from corners in the Premier League this season, six more than any other side. Drenched in the ceaseless Yorkshire downpour, the bedraggled Nuno responded by sending on striker Callum Wilson to replace the injured Scarles in an admission that his formation wasn't working. West Ham had never won a Premier League game when trailing by two or more goals at half-time and their 102nd attempt would be no different. Fernandes glanced a header into the far corner from Bowen's cross in the 90th minute, but Leeds survived four minutes' stoppage-time to leave the visitors marooned in the relegation zone. In a move which is even abysmal by the their on standards, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed national Test captain Shan Masood as Consultant for International Cricket and Player Affairs. The move is highly unprecedented given that it can generate a lot of conflict of interest by asking Masood to take care of player affairs of those who play beside or under him. The move also puts Masood's captaincy and career both under spotlight as to whether or not he'll be playing for long or not.<h2>Masood's appointment as PCB official</h2>The statement by PCB which announced Masood's elevation as one of its official doesn't have any other info other than the appointment information and his record as captain - which is rather underwhelming. The Women's World Cup 2025 match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan was called off on Friday (Oct 24) due to rain as both teams completed their campaign. The toss was delayed first in a wet Colombo which reduced the match to 34-over per side before the contest was called off completely post the second break and unplayable conditions. There were only 4.2 overs possible in the match and Pakistan scored 18 for no loss of wickets. Sri Lanka, after the disappointing end of their last league match, ended up with five points in seven games from one win and three no results.<h2>Pakistan finish campaign winless</h2>Pakistan chose to play all its matches in Colombo amid the stand-off with official hosts India but the strategy backfired on them badly. While their own performance was poor, Colombo weather ended three of their games. They managed to get three points from the rain-affected matches, else they might have ended up with no points at all. With three points, Pakistan currently are on seventh of eight places with Bangladesh on the last position with two points from six matches. Bangladesh, however, can still end up ahead of Pakistan if they manage to win their last league match against India on Sunday (Oct 26).<h2>Updated Points Table, ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025</h2><figure class="table"><table><tbody><tr><td>Team</td><td>M</td><td>W</td><td>L</td><td>NR</td><td>NRR</td><td>Points</td></tr><tr><td>Australia Women(Q)</td><td>6</td><td>5</td><td>0</td><td>1</td><td>1.704</td><td>11</td></tr><tr><td>South Africa Women (Q)</td><td>6</td><td>5</td><td>1</td><td>0</td><td>0.276</td><td>10</td></tr><tr><td>England Women (Q)</td><td>6</td><td>4</td><td>1</td><td>1</td><td>1.024</td><td>9</td></tr><tr><td>India Women (Q)</td><td>6</td><td>3</td><td>3</td><td>0</td><td>0.628</td><td>6</td></tr><tr><td>Sri Lanka Women</td><td>7</td><td>1</td><td>3</td><td>3</td><td>-1.035</td><td>5</td></tr><tr><td>New Zealand Women</td><td>6</td><td>1</td><td>3</td><td>2</td><td>-1.035</td><td>4</td></tr><tr><td>Pakistan Women</td><td>7</td><td>0</td><td>4</td><td>3</td><td>-2.651</td><td>3</td></tr><tr><td>Bangladesh Women</td><td>6</td><td>1</td><td>5</td><td>0</td><td>-0.578</td><td>2</td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

The third and final match of the India vs Australia ODI series will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday (Oct 25). Australia has already sealed the series 2-0 with wins in Perth and Adelaide. Pakistan has withdrawn from Junior Hockey World Cup scheduled to be held in Chennai and Madurai in India from November 20 to December 28. Earlier, Pakistan had also withdrawn from the Asia Cup men's hockey tournament which was too held in India. Both the decisions have been taken in light of the recent exchange of hostilities between the two countries after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 in India's Jammu and Kashmir. India decided to snap bilateral ties including sports with Pakistan in wake of the April horror and Pakistan copied the step later on.<h2>Who will replace Pakistan in Junior Hockey World Cup?</h2>The FIH, world body of hockey, has said that a replacement would be announced soon to ensure that the tournament goes on as planned. Pakistan backed out for safety reasons as well as current political situation between the two countries. After Pakistan had opted out of the Asia Cup which took place in Rajgir, Bihar, Bangladesh had replaced them in the tournament. Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen has 'apologised' to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after being hit with a legal notice for breaching a clause in their franchise agreement. The Pakistan board demanded a public apology from Tareen, who has uploaded a video of the same which satisfies the board's demand. Tareen had been vocally critical of the board in the past and now the matter seems to have gone out of hands with legal language involved.<h2>What did Tareen say in his apology video to PCB? &nbsp;</h2>"Only a big man apologises. I apologise for being unhappy that you give yourselves so much credit for doing so little," Tareen said as reported by ESPNCricinfo.
