Vinesh Phogat Disqualification: 'Answer is no,' IOC president on chances of CAS awarding medal to wrestler

International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach has opined that there's no provision for awarding two silver medals in one category while speaking aboutIndian wrestler Vinesh Phogat's disqualification.
The comments came as Phogat waits for a decision from the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) on her appeal against the disqualification from women's 50kg freestyle final. Phogat was found 100 grams above the permissible weight on the morning of the final (August 7) at the mandatory weigh-in.
“If you ask generally about having two silver medals in one category, then my answer is no,” said Bach while talking to the media on Friday (Aug 9).
Bach, however, agreed that each case should be examined on an individual basis and said: "There are the regulations of the International Federation that have to be followed, and the decision was made by the International Federation, United World Wrestling."
He, however, agreed that there's 'a human touch' in Phogat's appeal against the disqualification but acknowledged that “in the end, we will follow the CAS decision.”

The CAS is expected to deliver its verdict on Saturday (Aug 10) after a three-hour-long hearing on the matter on August 9.
WION Sports editor Digvijay Singh Deo also revealed the exclusive details of the petition which consisted of the following:
1. Uphold the fundamental right of athletes to their physical integrity
2. Vinesh didn't commit fraud during the competition and the disqualification was against the hard work that took her to the gold match
On Thursday (Aug 8), Vinesh announced that she is retiring from the sport with the Paris Olympics being her last official tournament.
Indian Olympic contingent's chief physician Dinshaw Pardiwala informed post her disqualification that the support staff did all they could to bring the weight down but unfortunately failed.
