Manchester City returned to the top of the English Premier League points table with a comfortable 2-0 win over relegation-threatened Cardiff.

The result lifted Pep Guardiola's side a point above Liverpool with both teams having six games to play.

During the post-match press conference, Guardiola said that he expects Phil Foden to play a key role in the side over the next decade and says the 18-year-old will be more involved in the first team next season.

Foden, who was born in Stockport, has been with the club since the age of eight.

"He is an exceptional player," Guardiola told reporters about Foden, who made his first Premier League start in City's 2-0 win over Cardiff City on Wednesday.

Pep added, "It is not easy for him. Play with (unclear), with Kevin de Bruyne position, with (Ilkay) Gundogan, with Bernardo Silva. So it is not easy for him."

"I assure you next season he is going to play more minutes than he played this season. And that is the process."

"In the next decade he will be an important player for us," Guardiola concluded.

The Manchester side, who have already won the League Cup and are into the Champions League quarterfinals, resume their quadruple bid with an FA Cup semifinal against Brighton on Saturday.
