Timberwolves Rudy Gobert

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has fined Minnesota Timberwolves player Rudy Gobert $75,000 for his 'cash money' gesture. He had made the gestures during Western Conference semi-final Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday (May 12) which the Timberwolves had lost 115-107. This is the second time the league has fined Gobert for this gesture.

The NBA said in a statement that Gobert has been fined for "inappropriate and unprofessional gesture that questions the integrity of the league and its game officials."

Gobert had rubbed his thumb on fingers after picking up a second offensive foul in as many possessions on Sunday by the same referee: Scott Foster. Notably, Foster has been accused of showing bias throughout his career.

In March earlier this year, Gobert was fined for the same gesture against the same referee. The NBA took into account his "history of improper conduct toward game officials" as well while putting up a huge fine on the French ball player this time.

The Timberwolves had won the first two away games of the series before losing two home games. The series now stands equal at 2-2 with the fifth game set to be played on Tuesday (May 14) (May 15 in India) at 10:30 pm ET in Denver.

The series is becoming a livewire with the defending champions Nuggets being tested thoroughly by the Wolves. The previous four games have seen multiple heated moments including Denver's Jamal Murray throwing a heat pack on the court in Game 2.

Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards also had a stare down with Murray in Game 4 on the sidelines. Edwards, notably had put in multiple big performance in the postseason so far and is a leading contender of the postseason Most Valuable Player (MVP).
