In an announcement made on Friday by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Formula One will return to the Istanbul Park circuit on a guaranteed deal of at least five years. President Erdogan launched the event on Friday to celebrate the announcement when an F1 car was driven along the streets.
Formula One will make its much-awaited return to Turkey in 2027, ending a six-year wait after an announcement was made on Friday (April 24). In an announcement made on Friday by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Formula One will return to the Istanbul Park circuit on a guaranteed deal of at least five years. President Erdogan launched the event on Friday to celebrate the announcement when a Formula One car was driven along the streets of Istanbul.
F1 to return to Turkey
"The return of the Turkish Grand Prix to the Formula 1 calendar is a victory for Turkiye's passion and belief in sport," said Erdogan.
"The Formula 1 races to be held at Istanbul Park for at least five years will both support İstanbul's leading position in the world and demonstrate to the world that our country is the safe haven of its region."
Turkey last hosted Formula One in 2021, after which it was dropped from the calendar by the FIA. However, it will be back on the calendar after six years, having hosted the coveted event on two installments. Turkey’s first installment was between 2005 and 2011 before it was dropped from the calendar. It returned during the 2020 and 2021 seasons before the FIA decided to pull the plug and dropped from the calendar.

A Formula One car was driven along the streets of Istanbul, starting from the city's main cruise port, Galataport and ending its journey at the Presidential Office in Dolmabahce. Also in attendance were Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
