"I am aware of the growing bonhomie between Nitish Kumar and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). I know BJP is desperate to ally with Janata Dal (United)(JD(U))."

He also took a jibe at Nitish by saying the alliance was forged because of him, and that the RJD made him Chief Minister.

Rumours had been rife about tensions between the 'Grand Alliance' of Congress and RJD as Nitish Kumar was said to be facing pressure to oust Tejashwi after charges of corruption against him were proved.

Nitish Kumar also backed BJP-nominee Ram Nath Kovind in the presidential election, irking the rest of the alliance members.

The Central Bureau of Investigation had filed a corruption case against Lalu Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi and son Tejashwi on allegations of awarding the tender for development, maintenance and operation of hotels in Ranchi and Puri in 2006.

Lalu Prasad has denied these allegations and called it a political conspiracy by the BJP.
