Chennai's Bala Vinaynagar Temple has been meticulously decorated to usher-in the Tamil New Year. The New Year celebrations here have been escalated to a new high as the holy site has been decked with currency notes.
Currency notes ranging from Rs1 to Rs200 can be seen adorning the walls and ceilings of the temple.
The estimated cost of decorating the temple, or the total amount of currency used to deck the holy site, comes to around Rs4 lakh.
The temple is totally covered with decks of currency notes from wall to wall. Locals say that the temple is covered in money every year to celebrate the holy festival of Puthandu.
A look at the video released by news agency ANI shows devotees queuing up to offer prayers at the temple. From temple's walls, ceilings to the alleys, the interiors of the holy site are completely covered with currency notes. Holy idols are also seen mounted on structures made of notes, however, it is not known if the notes used are real currency notes.
