A TADA court today sentenced Abu Salem and Karimullah to life imprisonment in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.

Firoz Khan and Mohammad Tahir Merchant were given death sentence by the court. Riyaz Siddiqui was given a 10-year life sentence.

The court imposed a Rs 2 lakh fine on Salem and Karimullahwhile announcing the verdict.

Karimullah, a close aid of Abu Salem was accused of planting the bombs in various places in Mumbai.

Earlier in the morning, court proceedings began in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case afterAbu Salem and fourother convicts arrived in court to hear the quantum of sentence in the blasts case.

The fifth convict in the case Mustafa Dossa had died ofheart attack on June 28.

The TADA court had found Abu Salem guilty under the Arms Act.Salem was found guilty of transporting weapons from Gujarat to Mumbai ahead of the blasts.

Mustafa Dossa was convicted of "training terrorists" and "supplying arms".

The TADA court had also convicted Karimullah Shaikh,Firoz Khan, Riyaz Siddiqui and Mohammad Tahir Merchant in the case.

The court letoff one accused Abdul Qayoomdue to lack of evidence.
