Ratan Tata to be accorded state funeral by India's Maharashtra, day of mourning declared

Indian tycoon and visionary industrialist Ratan Tata, who died lateWednesday(Oct 9), will be accorded a state funeral by the government of Maharashtra, a western Indian state. Calling Tata a "unique blend of morality and entrepreneurship", Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announceda day of mourning in the state on Thursday (Oct 10) to pay tribute to the industrialist.
Maharashtra cabinet also passed a resolution urging the union government to confer Bharat Ratna to Ratan Tata.The Cabinet also passed a condolence proposal on Ratan Tata's demise.
Mortal remains of the dead industrialist werebrought to the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in south Mumbai's Nariman Point at 10:30 am on Thursday for people to pay their respects. The last rites will be performed atWorli crematorium at around 4:30 pm IST.
"The mortal remains of Ratan Tata will be taken to the NCPA Lawns, Nariman Point, Mumbai at 10.30 am on Thursday for members of the public to pay their last respects and homage," Ratan Tata's family said in a statement.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend Ratan Tata's funeral on behalf of the Government of India.
