<p>Industrialist-philanthropist Ratan Tata is fondly remembered by both people who knew him and who didn't. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who was a close friend of Tata, recently shared an interesting incident that shows how humble the late tycoon was.</p>

<p>During an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 featuring filmmaker Farah Khan and actor Boman Irani, Bachchan recalled how one time Tata asked a friend of his to drop him home since they lived nearby.</p>

<p>Talking about the time Tata didn't have a car, the actor told Irani and Farah, "Bohut se aese kisse hai sir. Humare aur mitra the woh ek saath kahi event mein gaye the. Jab event khatam hogaya, toh jaane lage (There are several stories about him. He went to an event with one of my friends. When the event was over, he got up to leave)."</p>

<p>"Toh unhone us mitra ko kaha (He told my friend), 'Can you drop me home? I just live behind your house'." Farah and Boman could not believe it and let out shocking gasps, "Oh my god," said Boman.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Amitabh then continued, "Sir, Ratan Tata saying, 'I don't have a car'. Can you imagine that? It's unbelievable."</p>

<p>Calling him a simple man, Bachchan told the audience how one time Tata asked him for money to make a phone call from a phone booth.</p>

<p>The unique bond between Tata and Naidu, the youngest General Manager at Tata, flourished through their mutual affection for animals. They first met in 2014 when Naidu created reflective collars to safeguard stray dogs from night-time traffic accidents. Tata liked Naidu’s effort to save dogs on the road and invited Naidu to join his team.</p>

<p>Since then, Naidu has become a close and trusted friend to Tata, who never married and had no children but treated the 31-year-old as his son.</p>

<p>Naidu was born and raised in Pune and started working with Tata in May 2022.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He holds an engineering degree from Savitribai Phule University and an MBA from Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management. He began his career as an automobile design engineer at Tata Elxsi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The start-up was inspired by Naidu’s realisation that senior citizens often feel lonely and need companionship. The venture is now reportedly valued at Rs 5 crore and it was Ratan Tata and his company that invested in the start-up initially.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Naidu has also written a book, ‘I Came Upon a Lighthouse, ' a short memoir about his life with Ratan Tata.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As India mourns the loss of&nbsp;Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus&nbsp;of India's biggest conglomerate Tata Group,&nbsp;his words about how he wanted the world to remember him have now gone viral on&nbsp;social media platforms.</p>

<p>While giving an&nbsp;interview, Tata said that he always wanted people to remember him as someone who worked towards ensuring the best interest of business.</p>

<p>"I would like to be remembered as somebody who had never hurt others and done work to the best interest of business," Tata said when he interacted with the Ladies Study Group of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata in 2014.</p>

<p>In another&nbsp;interview with columnist and actor Suhel Seth on CNBC in 2018, the philanthropist said, “I would like to be remembered as a person who made a difference. Not anything more not anything less."</p>

<p>Ratan Tata was 86. He was admitted to Mumbai's&nbsp;Breach Candy Hospital because of&nbsp;age-related ailments and was moved to the ICU later where he breathed his last on Wednesday&nbsp;(Oct 9) evening.</p>

<p>In 1991, Tata took over as Tata Group's chairman and looked after the conglomerate created by his great-grandfather.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tata was also known for his philanthropic activities and humility. His visionary leadership and business acumen were widely respected by the entire industry and even world leaders.</p>

<p>On Wednesday (Oct 9), Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of one of India's biggest conglomerates, Tata Sons, passed away at the age of 86. The news of his health deteriorating had been doing the rounds for a few days. He was admitted to the intensive care of the Breach Candy&nbsp;Hospital in Mumbai early in the evening before the legend passed away.</p>

<p>N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Group, said in a statement, "It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation."</p>

<p>"On behalf of the entire Tata family, I extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones. His legacy will continue to inspire us as we strive to uphold the principles he so passionately championed," he added.</p>

<h2><strong>Who was Ratan Tata?</strong></h2>

<p>Tata took over as the chairman of the autos-to-steel conglomerate in 1991. He&nbsp;ran the group which was founded by his great-grandfather, Jamshedji Tata more than a hundred years ago. In 1996, he founded the telecommunications company Tata Teleservices and took over&nbsp;the IT company Tata Consultancy Services public after eight years.</p>

<p>After resigning, in 2012, Tata was conferred with the title of chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, Tata Industries, Tata Motors, Tata Steel and Tata Chemicals, as per the company website. During his tenure,&nbsp;the Tata Group achieved many highs, by acquiring Jaguar Land Rover, Tetley, and Corus.&nbsp;In addition, he&nbsp;introduced a retirement policy for directors over 75 years old.</p>

<p>Tata,&nbsp;who received the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, was a&nbsp;visionary industrialist and philanthropist. He&nbsp;was&nbsp;also known&nbsp;for his kind nature and social work.</p>

<p>On November 26, 2008, Tata's patience and resilience came under a huge test as the Tata Group-owned Taj Mahal Palace was attacked by terrorists.</p>

<p>The hotel was among the two luxury hotels that were attacked along with a train station, a Jewish cultural centre, a hospital, and other targets in Mumbai.</p>

<p>The hotel remained under a 60-hour siege, and 33 out of the 166 people were killed. Among the casualties, 11 were hotel employees.</p>

<p>As the rescue operation continued, Tata was seen at the Colaba end of the hotel for the entire day, sometimes alone and sometimes surrounded by aides and staff.</p>

<h2><strong>Tata's journey post 26/11</strong></h2>

<p>After the attack, he ensured that the hotel's iconic dome was restored and the damaged areas were opened within 21 months.</p>

<p>He also pledged to take care of the families of employees who were killed or injured in the tragic incident and paid the salaries to the kin of those killed, equalling the amount they would have earned for the rest of their lives, as per the BBC report.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As reported by the&nbsp;Deccan Herald, Ratan Tata had gone to the homes of victims and ensured their well-being.</p>

<p>In a few months, The Taj Public Service Welfare Trust (TPSWT) was also formed by the Tata Group to provide humanitarian support during disasters.</p>

<p>Recalling the event later, Tata said, "About 37 or 40 in our hotel were shot and killed for no reason. And then it became an issue that you stand by it and let this happen or go into the midst of what was like a war zone and stand with your employees and go to the homes of people who were killed."</p>
