Rameshwaram Cafe attack: Terrorists planned to bomb BJP office on Ram Mandir inauguration day

The four accused named in the chargesheet filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA)had planned to attack the state Bharatiya Janta Party office (BJP) in Bengaluru on January 22 - the day of the Ram Mandir inauguration in Ayodhya, before undertaking the Rameshwaram Cafe blast.
The four men,Mussavir Hussain Shazib, Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taaha, Maaz Muneer Ahmed and Muzammil Shareef were charge-sheeted on Monday (Sep 9) which revealed their insidious plans to cause chaos in the country.
NIA said the accused had planned an IED blast at the BJP office, situated in Malleshwaram. Shazib (who planted the bomb at cafe) and Taahawere part of the Islamic State (IS) module and played an important part in radicalising the other two accused.
"Taaha and Shazib were funded by their handler through crypto currencies, which Taaha converted to Fiat with the help of various Telegram-based P2P platforms. The funds were used by the accused to perpetrate various acts of violence in Bengaluru, investigations further revealed," the chargesheet stated.
"These included a failed IED attack at the State BJP Office, Malleshwaram, Bengaluru, on the day of Pran Pratishtha ceremony at Ayodhya on 22nd January 2024, after which the two key accused had planned the Rameshwaram cafeblast."

The main accused hadfraudulently obtained Indian SIM cards and Indian bank accounts. They also used variousIndian and Bangladeshi identitydocuments downloaded from the dark web.
They all have been charged under relevant sections of IPC, UA(P) Act, Explosive Substances Act and PDLP Act. All four were earlier arrested and are currently in judicial custody in the case.

NIA launched its investigation two days after the March 1 attack this year. The premier agency conducted severaltechnical and field investigation in coordination with various state police forces and authorities.
The blast had injured at least nine people and destroyed one of the most iconic food joints in the city.Extensive searches by the NIA had led to arrest of Taaha and Shazib from their hideout in West Bengal 42 days after the Rameshwaram café explosion.
