Indian politician Suraj Revanna, a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council and brother of beleagueredJanata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna, was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a male party worker, the news agency ANI reported on Sunday (June 23).A 27-year-old JD(S) worker complained to the police that Surajsexually abused him at his farmhouse in Ghannikada on June 16.

Prajwal,a former JD(S) parliamentarian,himself has been accused ofsexually abusing several women and is facing investigation.

ANI reported that Suraj was booked on Saturday for the alleged sexual abuse under different sections of the Indian Penal Code or IPC, including "unnatural offences."

Sources told ANI that Suraj was questioned at theCEN police station in the southern city of Bengaluru overnight before being arrested.

Suraj refutes charges

Based on the complaint filed by the 27-year-old man, the Holenarasipura police registered a case against Suraj under IPC sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (wrongful confinement), and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The JD(S) state legislatorcategorically refuted the charge and alleged that the party workerfiled a false complaint against him in a bid to extort $598,351 (around Rs 5 crore).

On Friday, police registered a case of extortion against the JD(S) worker on a complaint by Suraj Revanna's close aide Shivakumar.

Shivakumar alleged that the 27-year-old manwas trying to extort money from Surajby threatening to lodge a false case of sexual assault against him.

While the man demanded$598,351 from the JD(S) MLC, the amount was later reduced to nearly $240,000.

An FIR was registered against the party worker.

HD Revanna alleges conspiracy

Suraj's father and former Karnataka minister H D Revannatermed the allegations against his son a conspiracyand said he has faith in God and the judiciary.

"I won't react to anything. I have faith in God and the judiciary. I won't fear such conspiracies. I know what it is, time will decide," Revanna told reporters on Sunday.

Prajwal sent to 14-day judicial custody

Prajwal Revannais in custody for allegedly sexually assaulting several women and was arrested upon his return from Germany last month.

On June 1, the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) remanded him to Special Investigation Team or SIT custody on June 6 and later extended it till June 10.

On June 10, he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
