NEET result row: Supreme Court issues notice to testing agency NTA over paper leak claims

The Supreme Court on Tuesday (June 11) issued notice to the Centre and National Testing Agency (NTA)on a plea tocancel the results of the NEET-UG 2024 - acompetitive entrance test for undergraduate medical courses - amid allegations the paper was leaked.
"It is not that simple... just because you held the exam doesn't make it revered," the court told the NTA. "The sanctity of the examination has been compromised... so we need answers."
The court, however, said the counselling for the admissions will continue for now.
Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah said, "We are not discontinuing counselling".
The matter will be heard with a plea filed before Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on July 8.

It is worth mentioning thatthe court was hearing a fresh petition in the ongoing row over the NEET-UG 2024 results that claims inconsistency in scores and alleged special treatment to some students.
The petition asked for the scores from the May 5 exam to be cancelled andalso asked for a fresh exam to be held.
It may be mentioned here, the petitioners - from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh - have claimed discrepancy in the grant of grace marks. According to the petitioners, there is no defined logic and drewthe court's attention to "statistically impossible" marks, including students scoring the maximum - 720 of 720.
The petitioners highlighted that 67 students from a single coaching centrescoredperfect 720 marks.
Additionally, over 13,000 students contested a provisional answer key released by the NTA, arguing that it indicated a different answer.
Amid the ongoing court hearing, the NTA has made a high-powered committee that will analyse the grievances of 1,600 students who have already appeared for the NEET 2024 exam.
