The special CBI court in Panchkula was the centre of action as Baba Ram Rahim Singh was held guilty in a rape case.
The verdict was delivered by judge Jagdeep Singh, someone who is known to be tough, competent with a no-nonsense attitude among his colleagues in the legal fraternity.
Singh, who currently holds the charge of additional district and sessions judge, was designated as a special CBI judge last year, according to a report in the Hinduistan Times.
He joined the judicial services in 2012. Before that he practised as a lawyer in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
He has handled both civil as well as criminal cases in his 12-year career as a lawyer.
After joining the judicial services in 2012 he was posted at Sonepat. The stint as a special CBI judge is his second posting.
