Love, lies, and betrayal: Father spends 5 years in jail, after being falsely accused of rape by own daughter

Love, lies, and betrayal: Father spends 5 years in jail, after being falsely accused of rape by own daughter

Dehradun man acquitted

"Love is blind" and in some cases, like this one, it can be cruel. In India's Dehradun, a 42-year-old man spent five years in jail on rape charges after his 15-year-old daughter falsely accused him of the heinous crime at the behest of her boyfriend.

Lies, Love and Law

After he spent five years behind bars, a closer scrutiny of the evidence revealed that he had been falsely incriminated. The daughter had filed a false complaint because her father had issues with her bunking her school classes and her association with her boyfriend.

Thecase was registered against him on December 25, 2019, based on a complaint filed by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The committee at the time said that "the girl had told them about sexual abuse by her father and her younger sister also supported her claim".

The court's scrutiny of the evidence and a hearing of the witnesses revealed that the girl's beau instigated her to implicate her father falsely.

The man, who was a laundryman in Dehradun, was arrested and sent to jail on December 27.

Why would someone file such a complaint?

The girl, during cross-questioning, confessed that she was in love with a boy who pushed her to lodge a false complaint with the CWC. She admitted that she was upset with her father due to his disapproval of her relationship.

Furthermore, her medical reports also came negative for rape. After reviewing the evidence, the court decided that the manwas innocent and acquitted him last week.
