Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has been discharged from Mumbai's Asian Heart Institute after he was admitted on August 20 due todeteriorating health.

Lalu is presently serving sentence in three fodder scam related cases and was behind the bars since December 23, 2017. On March 29, he was hospitalised in Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, after his failing health and was later referred to AIIMS, New Delhi, for his treatment.

The Jharkhand High Court on Friday rejected Yadav's request for three months bail extension on medical grounds and have asked him to surrender by August 30.

His son Tejashwi Yadav had earlier written onTwitter: "Visited my ailing father admitted in Asian Heart Institute, Mumbai due to various diseases. Perturbed to see his falling health & increased infection. Praying that he may recover soon under the around-the-clock monitoring & continuous medical care of specialist doctors," he tweeted.

On May 11, the Jharkhand High Court had granted a six-week provisional bail to Lalu for his treatment at specialised institutes, though his counsel's had sought a 12-week relief.

On August 17, the Jharkhand High Court extended the provisional bail of former Bihar chief minister till August 27. Granting the extension of the provisional bail, the bench of Justice Apresh Kumar Singh fixed August 24 as the date to hear the bail petition.

The maximum prison term granted to 70-year-old Prasad in connection with the fodder scam is 14 years. The case pertained to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore from the treasury in Dumka, now in Jharkhand, in the early 1990s.
