The father of the trainee doctor who was brutally raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospitalalleged that his daughter's body was cremated hurriedly, even though there were already three other bodies at the crematorium.
"The crematorium had three other bodies, but our daughter's was burned first," he told ANI.
"The Chief Minister is talking about providing justice, but attempts are being made to put the common people demanding justice in jail. We are not satisfied with Mamata Banerjee and have refused to take any compensation," he said.
"The Chief Minister makes public statements demanding justice for my daughter but at the same time appears to suppress public outrage. Why this inconsistency? Is she afraid of public opinion? We need clear answers," the victim's father said, speaking to reporters in Kolkata on Sunday (August 18).
He also claimed that the West Bengal government is obstructing statewide protests over his daughter's death. "Protesters are being silenced by the Chief Minister. She protests publicly herself, yet is working to prevent others from doing the same," he added.
The victim's mother has appealed to West Bengal residents, particularly those benefitting from government schemes like Kanyashree and Lakshmi Bhandar.

"She (Mamata Banerjee) promised that the perpetrator would be swiftly arrested, but only one person has been detained so far. I believe there are many more involved and that the entire department is at fault. The police response was inadequate. It seems the Chief Minister is trying to curb the protests—today she imposed Section 144 to prevent public demonstrations," she said.
These comments came shortly after Kolkata Police imposed prohibitory orders around RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, banning gatherings of more than five people.
The area has been a focal point of protests following the tragic incident, with police enforcing Section 163 (2) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita around the hospital and extending the restrictions up to the Shyambazar five-point crossing.
