J&K: National Conference leader shot at by terrorists

A National Conference (NC) worker was shot at by terrorists in south Kashmir’s Bijbehara on Thursday highlighting the grim security situation in the valley. 

The NC worker identified as Mohammad Ismail was shot by the terrorists near Thajiwara area in the evening following which searches were conducted in the area to nab the suspects. 

Police said Ismail has received gunshot injuries and has been admitted to hospital for treatment.” 

This is the first time a political leader has been targetted after the announcement of Lok Sabha polls in the state by the election commission of India. ECI has deferred state elections stating the security situation in the valley. 

The National Conference said that the injured was its block President for Bijbehara.

The incident has once again put the focus on the security situation in the valley, just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. 

Police registered a case and are investigating.
