Jammu and Kashmir: Congress-NC alliance hits roadblock on seat sharing

The National Conference (NC) and Congress party have hit a roadblock on seat sharing after they announced the pre-poll alliance for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. According to sources, the Congress party has demanded some seats but the NC is unwilling to give them.
To discuss the seat-sharing issue with the NC, the Congress party flew in KC Venugopal to Srinagar. Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid has been in the Kashmir Valley for the last few days, holding meetings regarding seat sharing. Both the Congress leaders will meet Omar Abdullah and other NC leaders on Monday at his residence to decide on the seat-sharing issue.

''I can give you an update after the meeting is over, the big update is that some Congress senior leaders are coming to meet our senior leaders Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah. They needed some clarification over some issues and it's always better to sit face to face to clear them. We will see what happens but whatever has to happen will happen today only as it's the last day,'' said senior NC leader Nasir Aslam Wani.
Venugopal and Khurshid reached the residence of Farooq Abdullah to discuss the seat-sharing issue between the two parties. Tuesday (Aug 27) is the last day for filing nominations for the first phase of assembly elections. Although NC has filed nominations of two candidates for D.H. Pora and Doda, the rest of the seats are still open.

The decision of both parties will be out on Monday as deliberations have been continuously going on between and within both the parties. Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections will be held in three phases starting on September 18. The counting will be held on October 4.
