The prime minister's remarks in today's episode of "Mann ki Baat" followed Congress President Rahul Gandhi's accusationModi has not spoken out against crimes against women and children.

"The Prime Minister speaks on everything, but does not utter a word when crimes are committed against women in Uttar Pradesh and other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled states. No action is taken against the accused if he is a member of their party," Gandhi had said.

Continuing his tirade against PM Modi, Gandhi had previously lashed out at him for not speaking up on violence against women and children, especially after the Kathua and Unnao rape incidents, saying it was "unacceptable" and India was waiting for him to come forward and talk about it.

Directly addressing the Prime Minister on Twitter, Rahul Gandhi also asked why accused rapists and murderers were "protected" by the state.

Following Gandhi's comments, PM Modi brokehis silence and said that the daughters of the country who have suffered will definitely get justice and that his government will do everything possible to ensure that, in regards to the Kathua and Unnao case.

“In the last two days, the two incidents which have made news are definitely shameful for any civilised society,” PTI quoted Modi as saying in Delhi.

Gandhi has also attacked the Modi government over lynching incidents and attacks on Dalits in the past, saying that the ruling alliance was weakening support structures meant for the weaker sections.

Meanwhile, in the latest edition of "Mann ki Baat" on Sunday, PM Modi also spoke about the Triple Talaq bill and assured that justice is served to all Muslim women in the country.

"The triple talaq bill was passed in Lok Sabha but could not be passed in the Rajya Sabha. But, I would like to assure Muslim women that the entire nation is there with them and will ensure that they get justice," he said.
